Underground 119

This review is about something I saw. The food and drinks and music were great as usual, but what I saw is what impressed me.

Last night, an older African-American woman left her seat at the bar to go to the restroom and a young (20-ish) white girl and her friends (two girls and one boy also in their twenties) moved in and one of them took the woman's barstool. When the older woman returned to the bar she politely told the your gilr that she woud like her seat back. The young woman sneered and said "I don't think so."

The older lady asked once again, politely, for her seat. and the young woman again refused. The older lady got the attention of Chris the bartender and said that the young girl took her seat. Chris asked the young girl to give the seat back to the older lady and the young girl simply said "No."

Chris then called over Tom the chef and manager who asked the girl to give the seat back to the older woman. The young girl replied "She got up. She doesn't OWN the chair."

The manager firmly told the girl that she had to get up. The girl then waved her hand in the older African-American woman's face and said, rudely "I guess these people think they run this town now!"

When the manager heard this, he asked the girl to leave the bar. After more rude, racist and crude comments, the security guard was called over the throw all four of the young white kids out.

Way to go Underground 119!

You now have a customer for life out of me!

I really enjoyed my visit here. Downtown Jackson is like a desert wasteland for dinner options, but my colleague and I found this thanks to Yelp!  It has the feel of an old 1920's era Speakeasy, with a great band, dancing and all. The food was tasty, although way too overcooked, like most food in the south. I highly recommend it as a happy hour location, as they have some great drink specials. Service was among the best we received in Jackson. I will definitely go back again.
