We both very much regret going to Uno Chicago Grill last night...
Chocolate Monkey Smoothie Shake had a horrible banana taste like very very ripe banana, or more likely artificial banana flavor. And it had ice crystals in it. And it separated. Â And later I didnt feel well at all. Â I hadn't even had lunch yesterday, didn't finish my half of the small pizza, and as I write this the next afternoon, I still don't feel like eating anything.
Our field greens salads tasted ok but were tiny - really, really tiny for $5.99 each. If this happens to you get your money back. Â The manager was very nice and gave our money back for at least one salad, plus $5 off our next visit.
Had the Farmers Market Pizza... The 9 Grain Deep Dish Pizza crust tastes great. But there was hardly any good sauce or flavor. Really dry and bland. Â And pretty small for $18.99.
Mountain Mikes Pizzas are Twice as big for that price, and taste 10 times better!!
The service was incredibly slow. Â The person who took our order disappeared for a very long time, three different times, even though there was hardly anyone left in the building to wait on. My friend had to get up really early the next morning to open, and we didn't think we would ever get out of there.
I will update this if it's better next time.
We checked the menu before walking in because my friends are vegetarian and I have food allergies (we're a picky bunch). Everything looked good so we headed in and placed our order. It wasn't until everyone's food came to the table that I was informed they were out of my order. Not only that but they didn't have the next two things I tried for either. They didn't even have the gluten-free pizza on their menu and they're a pizza place!
Explaining my predicament they were nice enough to create a random dish but even then the flavor was incredibly bland. After the initial frustration of them being out of so many things on their menu it also appeared that their cooks didn't know about exotic spices such as salt or pepper. Incredibly disappointing.
Nose picking! We watched a waitress picking her nose! Awesome she didn't wash either. So now to the food- salad had wilted lettuce it looked old I had salad with 2 pieces of chicken that looked nothing like the picture. Waitress was trying to be nice but was short and rude before I could answer she said ok and left. Deep dish is conflicting asked for light sauce and received none the dough was uncooked. By wife ordered a sangria and the person ration in a beer cup sucks and the taste is um not that great. Their oils be so many improvements that could make this place a real must eat at instead of I won't go back
Review Source:Same thing here for me, French onion soup and salad. Uno is a decent place. My daughter loves the penne pasta with Alfredo sauce and she is picky. I like the all day cheap pints. Also, a plus that it is on the East side of Modesto. It is literally around the corner from my house. It is a quick lunch. We are in and out within thirty minutes.
Review Source:This place is horrible. I really didn't even wanna give them one star. I've never seen such  such horrible service. I definitely shoulda went to chevys. The staff. Didn't seem to know what they're doing and they yell at you. Definitely not honest good service.  I regret going to this place.
Review Source:I wasn't expecting much of this place since it was a chain, but we were looking for somewhere with lots of TVs that wasn't packed to watch the Niners game and ended up at Uno Chicago Grill.
Buffalo Calimari appetizer - sounded pretty unique, since it was served with banana peppers and tomatoes, so we gave it a try. I had about two pieces and didn't really care to eat the rest. Other people at the table enjoyed it but I just felt it was relying on the buffalo sauce to make it taste good. Portion seemed small for the steep price (~$12).
Numero Uno deep dish pizza - Not bad, but not amazing. I'd prefer BJ's deep dish pizza over this, and that's not saying toooo much cause I think BJ's pizza is just decent. Very filling, though.
Thin Crust pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and green bell peppers - I actually prefer the thin crust pizza here rather than the deep dish. Odd, seeing as this restaurant is supposed to specialize in deep dish. Pretty good, but I don't have any kind of inclination to come back and eat it again.
We also ordered a side of wings. Probably my favorite of the night. You can't mess up chicken wings THAT much though, right?
The one plus was that our waitress was very accommodating. Our group was probably being very annoying, since we switched tables..... three times. The bar area was full this particular night that we went (everyone wants to watch Sunday night football), so we settled for the dining area that had less TVs. We kept switching to get better views. One of the TVs in the back was lagging by a couple seconds, so when a touchdown was made we would cheer two seconds after the rest of the restaurant had. Not fun. After we finally settled down, it literally took us half an hour just to order our drinks cause we were too preoccupied with chatting with one another to look at the menu. Not to mention it took us close to an hour to order our food. We had a million questions on what to order (What do you think is good? How big is a regular compared to a large? What kind of beer is this and this, and what about that?). We were probably a waitress's worst nightmare. Luckily for us, our waitress was extremely patient and had no issues with us migrating all around the restaurant. We sat there for nearly four hours, and she never once showed any sign of annoyance. (Don't worry, we left her a nice fat tip.) Shiny gold star for her!
Hopefully we aren't black listed.
We had the mac and cheese. It was greasy and tasteless. Wife got sick after eating it. Her mango lemonade was watery and bland. Â We went at 5 on a weekday and it still took 10 min to get water on the table. Service was slow for such an empty restaurant. Â Also the parking lot spaces are very small, this place is not worth thousands of dollars worth of body damage to your car.
Review Source:I got to try this place with my girlfriends after one of them was dying to have it since they had closed their location in SF many years ago. When I walked in, it was a very hip BJ's-esque atmosphere and pretty spacious.
We tried the Shrimp, Spinach and Cheese thin crust and the Numero Uno deep dish along with some pizza skins for appetizer. It did hit the spot for me at that time and I didn't really have any complaints about this place. I wish their thin crust pizza was a little crispier as I love thin crust pizza that is almost cracker like. Their deep dish pizza definitely isn't the best I had but I appreciated how packed with meat this meal was.
Their pizza skins were impressive as I have not seen anything like it before! If you are a baked potato/carb fan this place does impress. Overall, not the best I've ever eaten but it was a fan place to satisfy some carb cravings.
When you go to a restaurant to eat, you want to feel welcome. That was definitely not my experience on this Sunday eveining. Sat at the bar and the service was terrible, bar tender seemed annoyed when we placed our drinks and food orders and pretty much didn't pay much attention to us the rest of the time. I've been here before and the service has always been atrocious... would not return and would not recommend anyone to go here for any reason.
Review Source:I'm always pleasantly surprised when a chain surpasses my expectations, especially in Modesto. Not that a chain outside of Modesto would be any different - that's why they're chains - but you catch my drift.
Uno opened up relatively close to my house a while back and I decided it was time to give it a go the last time I visited the padres. I ordered their vegetable soup which was decent but better after I smothered it with parmesan cheese. We split a thin crust pizza on a whole wheat crust which was not that bad, not that bad at all! In fact, I'd probably go as far as to say I enjoyed it.
They're known for their Chicago style pizza but honestly, with Little Star and Paxti's in SF, I didn't want to be epically disappointed.
Meet me at Ridgeways? Forget about it. If your located on the east side of Modesto, there probably isn't any better place to go for drinks than UNO Chicago Grill. Their happy hour specials ( which I think are all day now?) are absolutely great. $2 domestic and $3 imports? All day? Yeah, awesome.
The food there is good, but its nothing great. But after a few beers their sliders are the best little bastards in the world, which I've had a few times, and they have never failed me yet.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is exactly how you would expect from a chain: every inch of wall space covered with some type of tacky memorabilia, some booths and a visible kitchen... Cute.
The atmosphere at the bar though is quite different. There's generally a good crowd and a good vibe flowing throughout the whole place. The few tv screens that are available offer some form of sports entertainment, but you might be having a pretty kick ass time to even notice. The bar area can be pretty loud at times, so loud in fact that it might be hard to hear the bar tender at times, but then again you are sitting at the bar so what can you expect right?
The staff at UNO Chicago grill are extremely nice and fun to talk to, not to mention that most of them are fairly good looking. The bar tenders there are a blast and definitely make it worth sitting at the bar.
So if your looking for a place to get your drink on for dirt cheap, eat some pretty decent bar food(also extremely well priced), without the hassle of having to deal with drunk ass bro-show dueche bags ( Donoby's anyone?) than do not hesitate to head on over to UNO Chicago Grill, they will not disappoint.
We went to Uno's during the 3-7 half priced appetizers happy hour and I was overall very pleased with the experience. Â I like that we got to sit in the bar area to take advantage of the special even though we had our 2 year old with us. Booths are always nice for parents lol. Â My boyfriend got three beers on tap and he loved the Sam Adams pilsner and of course the Blue Moon; not as big of a fan of the Sam Adams Uno's special edition beer (no idea what that one was called lol). Â Our server was great.
For food we ordered the Wings Any Way in Buffalo Garlic and Romano, Honey Barbecue, and Tangy Uno's Wowza sauce (they were all good, the garlic and romano had a little too much vinegar); the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla (delicious); Shrimp and Crab Fun-do (fantastic); and the thin crust cheese pizza (for the little guy; I had a bite and it was good crust but with a sauce that reminded me of Spaghetti-O's). Â With all that plus a diet coke for me and an apple juice for my son we walked away having spent less than $40 (I was uncomfortably full and my boyfriend could have totally lived without that third beer too hehe). Â Great place and a great deal, we will definitely be going back!
Great Deep Dish Pizza!!! Need not even say anymore...lol! They have great service and i like the Take-out drive-up pickup service.
Drefinately a place you shopuld visit for pizza if your in the area. You won't be disappointed if you want to have a piece of Chicago' classi Deep Dish!!!
Having originally been part of the construction project, I take pride in the work we put into building Uno Chicago grill.
At first I was excited and pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. The owner was always welcoming and offered us free drinks, A+.
There pizzas will not disappoint and are probably some of the best local pizza's, however on several occasions the food has not been cooked properly, major let-down.
We stopped going for a while because of the inconsistency of the food, but it seems that the establishment has worked out the early glitches and is operating great. The cooking staff is cooking food consistently.
Uno's offers the best happy-hour specials hands down. My wife and I enjoyed 2 beers( $2 ea) and a soda, 4 items off the happy-hour menu ($2.99 ea.) and a single dessert. Â A tad' over $22 dollars.
I will be coming back.
I have been here twice. Great for groups. They split checks for 8 people - no problem. Both times the service has been quick and friendly. The second time i was here, was for a birthday with 7 other people. Our waitress was really helpful when it came to splitting the checks for us, and helping out with a lit candle on a dessert for the birthday girl.
My first time here, I had the deep dish pizza. I remember that it was pretty good. The request for ranch (to dip it in. yum!) was welcomed.
The second time here, I ordered the gumbo for $13. I thought it was okay. It seemed "off". The consistency was thicker than what I liked. I much preferred the gumbo from Tresetti's in downtown Modesto.
I guess the best thing about this place is the service. The food was mediocre, but I will have to return to try their deep dish pizzas again to refresh my tastebuds and update my review.
The menu is your typical chain restaurant food. Nothing amazing but I definitely left satisfied. The food is filling and tasty.
The ambiance is pretty chill. The attire is casual and relaxed.
On separate occasions, I had the cheeseburger and hot wings. Both were good and the portions were generous.
Don't expect anything amazing but if you're in the mood for a simple dinner, Uno is a good spot to consider.
Wow, not bad. I've ate here twice before and if I had reviewed it then I would have given them 1 star. But I gave it another go since the lady wanted to try it.
I had a burger (can't remember the name! Maybe bacon cheddar burger) that had onion crisps on it and some sauce with Samuel Adams beer mixed in it; and it was really good. The lady had chicken Alfredo with broccoli and she loved it.
They had a god kids menu and coloring books so the little one was kept busy thankfully.
I'd give them another go for lunch as they were quick; but there wasn't that many people in the place so I hope it's just as quick next time.
Oh, they have lots of tv's so no matter where you sit you'll be able to see the game that's on.
One more thing; who designed this place? No stars off for that but why is the entrance facing the intersection? Seems odd and if there is a wreck there is a great possibility that it could end up where you're waiting for a table outside. It's like 15 feet and you're in Briggsmore Ave.
I have been to this place a couple of times. Â Have ordered their pizzas before and remember enjoying them. Â Do not remember it being anything special but did its job at filling me up. Â
My most recent experience was pretty crappy. Â I ordered a blended margarita which was light on the alcohol and heavy on the syrup. Â It was pretty though, I'll give them that. Â
My boyfriend and I were not super hungry so decided to order an appetizer to share then each of us would have a bowl of soup. Â He loves his buffalo wings so we ordered their platter where you can select three different varieties of wings for a little over nine dollars. Â
The appetizer shows up and there are 8 1/2 puny wings on the plate. Â They are about the size of ping pong ball. Â I let the server know that I think we did not get a complete order and she said, "ohh no, it actually looks like they gave you more than they should have". Â So the almost 9 wings we got were more than they normally give making them more than ONE DOLLAR a piece! Â Now if that is not a rip, I do not know what is.
To be honest the flavor of their original/traditional was not half bad but obviously not worth the price. Â
Our soups were actually pretty good. Â I ordered cheddar brocolli and he ordered clam chowder-no complaints there. Â But not worth the five bucks they cost. Â
Do not plan on returning again, that is for sure!!
Ohh and p.s. the server definitely hated life. She was not rude so much as just really appeared to hate the job. Â Would not blame her; I would imagine she probably gets complaints quite a lot.
Addendum, just got a comment from someone on this review. I did not state this was a corporate although its a franchise and the menu is mandated by corporate. Two local folks I was messaged own this and they contribute to the community and promote Gallo wine. Still one star for predictability and just another mundane, lackluster, characterless establishment, but thanks for helping out locally. I thought this was about good restaurants and good food not what is done philanthropically. Rant off! I thought I was going to have to eat crow with squid sauce!
Just like a bad rash I see this one has popped up at the corner of Briggsmore and Oakdale Road. It is very hard to find people that fit the category of a gourmand in Modesto, you don't even find very many 'foodies'. Why anyone would rate the Uno at all is beyond me, a waste of time just go to Perkos and pretend thats good food. I don't know what to say!
Boy oh boy, what a let down. I visit Modesto about once a month and saw this building when it was being constructed and remember thinking how much I wanted to check it out once it opened. I was saying to myself, "Wow, Modesto has arrived!"....
Before starting my review, I should note that I had heard some terrific things about Uno from family members - things like their portion sizes are huge, the prices are reasonable, food incredible...I guess everything is relative because the prices at lunch seemed steep for the average portion sizes and bland tasting food. I had the 1/2 chicken sandwich w/ a Parmesan and sun-dried tomato spread that barely covered half the chicken. I had to dip the rest in ketchup. It would be one thing if this was a McDonald's quarter-pounder, but I paid $10 for the sandwich and salad, so I expect a bit more.
Our server seemed friendly enough, but for some reason she was making a raucous every time when she picked up a dish from a nearby table and then dropped it behind the bar. I don't know if she was angry about having to bus her own table or what...but it was a bit unnerving to hear crashing plates every 30 seconds while trying to enjoy lunch.
As for the little plaza that Uno is located in...it's in an infill plaza with "smart" design parking spaces that are about 3/4 the width of a standard compact car - heaven forbid you should have to actually open a car door when a car is parked next to you or that two cars actually try to drive down a parking aisle way. They also underparked the plaza by about 50%. The restaurant wasn't even a 1/2 full and the parking lot was practically filled up. Maybe it was each of the cars taking up two of the "smart" designed parking spaces apiece.
The two good things saving Uno from a 1-star review are that they have tons of high-def television sets playing sports at all hours and then have a full bar with lots of happy hour specials.
The veggie soup is good and hearty, it has a really nice texture with all kinds of yummy veggies. Â Add it to a house salad with the "Low Fat Blueberry Pomegranate Vinaigrette" dressing and you have a nice vegan lunch. I also had a fresh lemonade that was tasty - not to tart or to sweet.
The meat - eating - boyfriend had a BBQ chicken pizza, he said it was good but the sauce was lacking.
Also lacking was the service, we had to flag down our server for refills on water. However the place was really clean which always makes me happy! I will be going again.
Having enjoyed Pizzeria Uno in San Diego, I made sure to suggest this place for a lunch when I took a trip to Modesto.
The dining room and bar here are more ideally laid out in comparison to the San Diego location.
Like my brother Mark A. brought up, the limited size of the pizza is a concern. Â Knowing that Chicago pizza has the reputation of being more filling, a few slices really didn't faze me. Â I could have handled a whole pie myself. Â But if larger sizes destroy the integrity of the pizza making process, then by all means, ignore my request for a larger size.
The amount of ice cream served with the desserts is still ridiculously small here. Â We eat like Americans here, not Europeans! Â Two real scoops, at the very least!
Bear with me, I am writing this on 4 hours of sleep...
When you spend a graduation involving the First Lady as the special guest commencement speaker un in UC Merced, and are staying in Modesto with a relative for the weekend, and see an UNO's Chicago grill - you have to stop by and try it out.
There's none in my general area of SoCal, but I hear there's one in San Diego? It's a pretty nice place, almost BJ's brew house-esq. Specialty seems to be Chicago-Style deep dish pizza. It's good...
The crust is unlike any other pizza place. Flaky, crispy goodness. It's definitely Chicago-style because you do need a knife and fork to eat. The Numero Uno is great, and we also tried some Greek looking one with eggplant, feta cheese, etc... The sizes are kind of meh... the largest pizza can only server 2-3 people so you might have to order more than one.
Uno's - maybe upgrade the pan sizes? Don't change the cute waitresses and hostesses. :)
My husband and I finally tried UNO this weekend. After hearing and reading many mixed reviews for this place, I'm glad I finally gave it a shot.
I thought I'd mention this quick note, when we got to Uno, the Giant's and Cubs were playing...it was the top of the 8th...7 to 0 Cubs...and by the time we walked out of there the Giants had tied it 7 to 7...my sports superstitions tell me that my husband and I eating at a restaurant whose walls were covered in Cubs memorabilia was actually a good thing! I mean, the Giants ended up losing in the 10th after we left but still, it was a pretty phenomenal comeback for a team that's been sucking ass all season, and I like to think I had something to do with it :)
Okay, now for the actual UNO review.
First off, the service was excellent. We walked right in and were seated immediately. Mind you, we went at 1:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday, as opposed to the dinner rush but still, it was prompt!
We were seated in the bar which was great because we had planned on getting a couple of beers. The bartender immediately walked over to us and asked us what we wanted. She was very nice. A few minutes later she took our order, and withing 15 minutes, our pizza was brought to us by a very nice, funny server with a great sense of humor.
So I'm saying, my experience was great as far as customer service...top notch even.
We ordered the Numeral UNO deep dish pizza (SEE PICTURE I POSTED), which had bell peppers, onions, sausage and pepperoni I think. It wasn't real big but the slices were so thick that we each only were able to eat two, and we took the rest home.
Our only complaint was that the pizza was a bit cold, and frankly that isn't a plus when you're paying $18 for a pizza....minus one star.
Also, since UNO is on a weird corner lot at one of Modesto's bussiest intersections, it's difficult to park in their parking lot unless you're coming East down Briggsmore Ave. or South down Oakdale Rd...otherwise you'll end up having to make a U turn at the stoplight.
Other than that, the service as I said was great, and the atmosphere of the whole restaurant is pretty cool. Would prefer however to see SF Giants memorabilia rather than Cubs but, what are you gonna do right?
****Oh and one more random note...two Modesto policemen were eating there, they were there before us, and left just before we did, so they were in there well over an hour. When we were walking out, we see that one of them was a K-9 unit and the dog had been left in the car the entire time they were eating!
Hello! It was 100 degrees outside! Isn't that illegal? Can't we get in trouble if we left our dogs in our cars? If not, shouldn't we?
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and HOPE he had the smarts and heart to leave the AC running the whole time but still, who does that right??? Not cool Mr. Po Po man, NOT COOL!
Years back there were 2 of these in the City, and I thought it was the best pizza around. Â I was really looking forward to eating here when I found out they had opened a place in Modesto. Â I was a bit disappointed though when I finally ate here, For me Chicago style pizza is definitely not to way to go anymore. Â At least not at Uno's.
Unos claims to be the originators of the Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza, although if I remember correctly the Malnati's of Lou Malnati's Pizzeria claim Rudy or Lou Malnati invented it while working at Uno's in the 40's. Â
Funny because I think there's a similar story about who invented New York Style Pizza between the Lombardi's and Totonno's. Â The Totonno's claim Anthony Totonno worked at Lombardi's and made the pizzas there until opening up Totonno's Pizza in 1924 on Coney Island.
Anyway, Chicago style pizza just has too much dough. Â It's not real pizza if you ask me. Â Unos has a lot of other items on the menu, more than I remember them having years ago. Â It certainly doesn't seem like pizza is their main thing anymore. Â
The Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla for starters was really good, that should tell you a lot about where the pizza is going.
Regardless it's not a bad place and with my usual disclaimer "for Modesto it is pretty good". Â One more place that gets a better rating just because it's the best the area has to offer.
Uno Chicago Grill is not worth the 45 minute wait. Â The atmopshere is O-K; it's really loud and I barely could hear my grandma talking to me. Â Also, every 5 minutes they were singing "Happy Birthday" to someone. Â I'm a firm believer in a free birthday dessert, but I think singing the birthday song is obnoxious and tacky, but I guess that kinda describes this place.
The shrimp and crab fondue was waaaayy too buttery, and the toasted bread pieces were also smothered in butter and garlic, way too much of everything. Â The deep dish pizza was tasty in terms of the toppings, but the crust was super greasy. Â They must go through a ton of butter and oil every night.
I didn't hate my experience at Uno. Â The restaurant itself is cute and decorated nicely and the waitstaff was really friendly and attentive...I just won't be coming back here again.
Everyone is talking,.."oh, Uno's its so good" "go there"..etc etc etc
so my boyfriend and i head over there on a saturday night. The parking lot is indeed like a sardine can. TINY. the ambiance is great. a very upscale Chili's (stuff on the walls, etc)
There was a wait so we had a few beers in the bar which was really nice. tons of flat screens but warm, inviting. We paid for our 1st round  and ordered another just in time for our buzzer to go off. We left the bar and the bartender said she would transfer the 2nd round to our dinner table...
I was straving so i ordered the clam chowder (the white kind) first ($4.99 for a small cup..kinda pricey) but it was reeeeeeeeally good.
so i was pumped for the pizza. Â We ordered the meat one...which has the sausage and pepporoni, etc. Â (we wanted to make some modifications but the waitress said we couldn't. weird, i thought we were at a pizza place...)
when the pizza came and i had a bite..i was pretty UNDERwhelmed. it was very strange. the crust was LITERALLY like Pie crust- buttery, hard, flaky, crispy...not like any pizza crust i've ever had..it was literally pie crust..haha not my fav.
here's the kicker: when it came time for the check...the bartender never transferred our 2nd round (cool free drinks)
and our waitress didn't charge us for my soup (cool free soup)
Bottom Line: i would go there again...3 stars for the bar and decor/ambiance..everyone is right though, LOTS of birthdays..but if i do go again..i will NOT order pizza. the menu is pretty extensive...
i like BJ's Brewery better :O)
Pros:
1. yummy deep dish pizza. Â The crust tastes like pie crust. Â
2. you can get on their email list and they send you coupons for freebies. Â We got a personal deep dish gratis and used it as our appetizer. Â
3. Prices are reasonable.
4. Pretty decor, nice atmosphere.
Cons:
1. 4 birthdays on the same day? Â Every few minutes a parade of chipper waitressess screamed out a birthday "song" to another customer. Â
2. the food was lackluster. Â My chicken was overcooked but cold; husband's looked like leftovers; my friend's was beautiful but bland.
3. had to steal silverware from another table
4. misinformed about the wait time
5. parking lot= sardine can. Â Maybe it'll get better after the construction is done?
Bottom line: go for lunch, order the pizza, but don't waste a weekend evening here.
The Uno deep dish was very good, I shared it with my husband and we had leftovers.. we also shared a buffalo blue cheese salad.. which was okay .. the buffalo chicken on top was good.. but I expected the dressing on the salad to be a blue cheese and it was more of a vinegary tasting dressing.. with chunks of blue cheese on the salad....
service was good but the order took a while.. (35 min) we went for 11:00a.m. lunch on a tuesday. Â Good thing we weren't in a rush. Nice atmosphere.
UNO is a little piece of heaven that an LA guy like me can only dream about--given that the company has ZERO locations in Los Angeles. Â
At any rate, as a frequent visitor to Modesto I was ecstatic to see that UNO has opened a central valley location. Â
There is pizza and there is UNO. Â When you want pizza you go out for pizza, but when you want Chicago-style deep dish, UNO is the only option. Â
As a native Bostonian, I grew up eating UNO (which is very prolific in Massachusetts). Â I am a purist, and only order the deep dish pizza. Â Their menu has expanded but I refuse to touch anything else.
The Modesto location's deep dish is as good as UNO has always been. Â
The standout at the Modesto location is the service. Â The restaurant is well staffed--as in the way restaurants used to be well-staffed in the 1980s. Â Everyone I encountered very cordially asked how they could help me, and even the most odd requests were fulfilled with a genuine smile.
With this being the first Uno location in the area, I came into the restaurant not quite knowing what to expect. What I got was some of the best service I've ever seen, excellent food, and a comfortable atmosphere.
As the name implies, Uno Chicago Grill has a Chicago theme to both the decor and the menu. Different photos or other symbols of the Windy City are scattered all over the walls, similar to restaurants like Applebees or T.G.I.Fridays, making it perfectly clear that they're proud of where they hail from and providing some conversation pieces for you and your guests. And worse comes to worse, there's televisions scattered throughout the place, so there's always the game to keep you distracted.
When I say I received the best service ever, I mean it. A hostess was waiting to greet us outside the door, in 104 degree heat, no less, and happily opened the door for us with a cheerful hello. There was plenty of seating at the front while we waited for a table to open up and we were given a chance to browse the menu beforehand. Soon enough we were shown to our seats.
Let me say one thing about the food: you get your money's worth. We started with an order of pizza skins, (think potato skins but served in a deep dish crust with a layer of mashed potatoes, cheese, bacon bits, and sour cream) and we very nearly filled up on them!
Then came our orders. For my mother, an order of Rhode Island Style Calamari (fried calamari tossed  with spicy banana peppers and  diced plum tomatoes with cocktail and marinara sauces), Rattlesnake Pasta for myself (Sauted chicken and spicy Alfredo  sauce tossed with penne, cheddar cheese and topped off with jalapeo peppers) and Uno's specialty for my uncle, a deep dish pizza made Chicago style.
I cannot stress enough how good the food was. I was able to taste my mother and uncle's orders as well as my own, and I can tell you that the calamari was absolutely delicious and my own Rattlesnake Pasta, though slightly rich, was tasty and spicy enough to make me feel the heat, but mild enough to let me enjoy the flavors from the cheese and chicken.
I do, however, have to point out that the deep dish pizza is made Chicago style, something those of you in the area may not have much experience with. It is certainly a different taste, but if you're a fan of good crust on your pizza, you should have little problem with it. My uncle, however, swore up and down that it was some of the best pizza he's ever had, so maybe its just me.
I really wish we could have tried the dessert, especially with something like the Deep Dish Sundae on the menu (I won't even describe it, you'll just need to see it for yourself), but by the end of it all we were just too full to go on! Our waitress gave us excellent service with a smile and was there to refill our drinks and check on us whenever we needed it, despite the restaurant being packed. Now really, with service like that, how can you go wrong?
So, if you read all of that, congratulations. If you just skimmed down here, I'll sum it up: Go to Uno's and have a good time. I know I'll be going back soon, and by God I'll conquer that Deep Dish Sundae.
