Went here with a group of friends, found the service to be excruciatingly inefficient and slow. Prices are meh, atmosphere flat. They do have darts. Oh man, stay away from the bathroom. Earns the award for being the worst bathroom I have been in so far in 2013. Terrible. If you find yourself in Frisco, you can probably skip this place.
Review Source:I really want to like this bar. I really do, but I can't bring myself to give it any more than 2 stars.
Like those 2 stars suggest, meh, I've experienced better. I'll preface this review with a few positive comments:
- Their poker night (every Tuesday) is a whole lot of fun! Great crowd, good times.
- I absolutely adore their Italian soft pretzels. Easily the best I've ever had in my life.
- They have some fun stuff to do: pool table, dance floor, fooseball table, darts, etc.
Now that we've covered the good, I'll move on to to the bad:
- They seem to have a young and immature crowd every weekend. If the bar's empty, just take a look at the photos plastered across their walls and you'll see what I mean. Some people might enjoy mingling with such a raunchy crowd; for others, it's not an ideal setting.
- The place is usually filthy. Tables have bits of food all over them, and the floor is sticky with spilled booze. I've only experienced this during busy nights.
- The service is usually slow and sometimes outright rude. (I'm not the least bit surprised by all the other negative reviews on here about their service.)
Think that's bad enough? Wait till you hear about the ugly...
Sometime last week, my boyfriend and I decided to grab dinner here. As usual, we ordered their awesome Italian soft pretzels. When they arrived, my boyfriend grabbed the Parmesan cheese shaker sitting on our table and shook a lot over his pretzel. Suddenly, a foul stench hit our noses. We immediately figured that the disgusting smell came from the cheese shaker. Judging from the stench, I was 100% convinced that some drunk jerk peed all over the shaker during a wild night out with his friends. We flagged down the waiter and told him what happened. Without saying a word, he just brought us a new shaker and then walked away. Uh, what about all that smelly tainted cheese already piled on top of my boyfriend's pretzel?
My boyfriend isn't the kind of person to complain at a restaurant (even if it's a divey bar like this one), so he just quietly scraped the possibly piss-infested cheese off his pretzel and choked it down while trying to erase the whole incident from his mind. I, on the other hand, was upset that the waiter didn't even apologize, much less try to rectify the issue.
Sorry, Jonny, I'll continue to spend my Saturday nights with a nice fellow named Ollie down the street...
This is a fun place and probably one of the better late night places in Frisco, CO. The service was very good but food was not so consistent. Maybe I should know better being from Philly, but yes I ordered the Thai Philly cheesesteak which had chicken and thai sauce. It was horrible. My bf eats almost anything and wouldn't eat it. Not only did it not look appetizing, but it was so salty that I could only get through one bite. They would be better off not having this item on their menu and just sticking with typical bar food. The fried stuff we ordered was all decent greasy bar food- mac n cheese bites, fried raviolis, wings. The bf got cheesy steak fries which was a huge plate of fries, cheese and meat. The wings were decent. The server noticed that we didn't touch the Thai Philly and offered us something in its place so service is good here. If you are looking for a decent place to go to grab a few drinks and eat some greasy bar food, this is a good place to stop in.
Review Source:While driving from Grand Junction to Denver the hunger became an issue around the Glenwood Springs area. My son wanted pizza, Mom and I not so much. Fast food not being an option I did a quick Yelp search. Looking at Silverthorn produced mainly chain food. A search of Frisco turned up a number of options, Upstairs at Johnny G's seemed the most appealing at he moment.
Being late afternoon on a Sunday parking was easy. With anticipation growing we walked into Jonny G's, what did we find? Not much, what was obviously a night club was barren, I think I actually heard crickets chirping off in the distance. There was no way this place could produce anything other than lousy bar food, we almost left. That would have been a huge mistake. Jonny G's produces some of the best bar food I have eaten.
The menu was typical bar food: pizza, steak & cheese, burgers, wings, fries, nice beer selection, etc. My son ordered a slice of NY style cheese pizza, I ordered wings (citrus habanero) and my wife the Hippy Sub (made with grilled veggies and cheese) and if that wasn't enough our waitress told us about there 2 giant soft pretzels for $5. We got an order of pretzels to share. Here is what we found:
1. Pizza - damn near perfect. thin crust, nicely charred, not over sauced or cheesed. A perfect balance. $2 for a huge slice
2. Wings - Some of the best I've eaten, super crispy not a hint of being soggy. The citrus habanero sauce was excellent. $8 for 6 huge wings
3. Hippy Sub - with stuff like this I might be able to give up meat for a couple days. $7 and overstuffed.
4. Pretzels - the best soft pretzel I have ever eaten, period. $5 for 2 huge pretzels.
I was shocked to find food this good in a place like this. Walking in to Upstairs at Jonny G's I was expecting very little, instead we were rewarded with a great meal at a very reasonable price.
A word of caution if you have kids, get there before early. Later in the evening this is a night club and not suitable for kids. Earlier and the kids will be just fine.
I'm thinking Upstairs at Jonny G's will become a regular stop on my drives between the Front Range and Western Slope. All hail Upstairs at Jonny G's.
This is just a fun bar! Pizza is acceptable, the pretzels are super yummy (served with cheese sauce & marinara), and the beer is cold. Service with a smile is also a plus.
I had tons of fun sitting by the windows @ this second floor establishment and watching the people go by. I'll be stopping by during every trip to CO from now on.
4 stars instead of 5 because they take too long to update their beer list (it appears to be written in chalk!) when they make a change and because I don't think it would kill them to run a broom around the place at least once a day.
For years, every time we visit Summit County we try out a new pizza joint. Â Always way overpriced and never very good pizza, we'd all but given up. Â Spotted this joint on YELP and thought we'd try it. Â We've found our place! Â Awesome thin crispy, chewy NY pizza with perfect spices. Â No bland pizza here! Â Prices low, amazing views from upstairs windows or deck, and huge, yummy side salad to go with pizza. Â Don't be deterred by lack of an entrance, just head up the stairs. Â Parents taking on the kids for a game of foosball after pizza!
Review Source:I want to make it very clear -- this is the only place I have been outside of NYC (inthe US) with real NYC pizza. Â I spent 33 years between queens, the bronx, brooklyn and manhattan and this is not a thin crust pizza that claims to be NYC style. Â This is actually NYC pizza. Â Folks seem to think that thin crust = NYC. Completely wrong--it is a thin crust with a very mild chewy texture and an excellent--but not cracker like--crisp crust. Â As important--the cheese and sauce must blend together and function as one unit--not the typical layered style pizza you see all over the place. Â Lastly, sauce needs to be balanced with cheese (not cheese that overwhelms everything), just sweet and spicy enough and homemade. Â Jonny--the owner--has hit a homerun here. Â And you would never guess it at the only nightclub in Frisco at 9100ft elevaton. Â To top it all off, Jonny uses super fresh and high quality ingredients and doesn't drown his pies in cheep oil. Â
Very simple--if you don't like this then you don't like real NYC pizza.  It is possible that you don't even know what real NYC pizza is.  Everytime I go in there I have to tell jonny again that his pizza, in any of the 5 boroughs of NYC would be considered excellent  by new yorkers' standards. Â
Price - $15 for an a true 8 slice pie and low cost per topping (although the best way to eat a real NYC pizza is a simple cheese slice). Â Off season pies run around $10--or basically free.
Completely unbiased:
I walked upstairs, whoever was in front of the door asked what my friends and I wanted. As if it was unusual to be eating there. So we said we wanna have dinner. He paused....said okay. Then we sit down, feel a strange vibe but decide were gonna stick it out. Then the same man walks up to us and says we have an event going on at 6, it was 530. so we have to leave. I asked if we couldn't eat then? He said he didn't say that, but we had to leave ... Then he walked away and snickered a comment to himself as if he was annoyed of my question
I was very impressed with this pizza joint. The food was excellent. We ate pretty early so there was not much of a crowd but I imagine it gets bumping later on in the evening. There is pool table, darts, and foosball etc.
The owner/host/waiter was awesome. The service was great! I hope he has help when it gets busy!
The most impressive part was that the pizza dough, tomato sauce, ranch etc was all made in house with fresh ingredients. I love that in a place.
I would hands down recommend this place and intend on revisiting myself next time we are there!
Best variety of people around. Â Hugely entertaining people-watching.
Huge pizza's start at $15 and slices are $2 until 10pm. Â
$4 pints of Avery, and the drinks they were mixing were serious stuff. Â Friendly bartenders even though they are usually really busy.
Alex G. and Ryan C have it nailed. Â Rich must have been having a Capistrano hallucination, but hey, as long as he enjoys the place...
I was looking for places for my family to go while on our family reunion in Fris...co,CO. It was a challenge because we varied in age from 25-65. Jonny G's was the perfect spot. It had pool and darts for the young ones to enjoy, and outdoor area for the older ones to hang, and the pizza provided the perfect snack. The owner is active in the community too which is always something that I like to support. Thanks Jonny for a good time.
Review Source:Something for everyone depending on which night you choose. Â Best pizza in Summit by far, hand tossed and homemade sauce! Â Great late night and plenty for the kids before ten. Â If you don't mind being a sinner you should try the fried Mac n' Cheese app. awesome! Â Forget the wierd paint job in the mall on your way in, you will feel comfortable when you get inside Jonny's
Review Source:The staff rocks, the pizza is delicious, and the wings are the best in town. Â I'd recommend a double cheese, sausage and pepperoni pizza. hells yeah.
A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano...
Oh, and they have good drinks and good prices too.
So anyplace that offers a keg of free PBR on Saturday nights and has a DJ that spins between Paperboy, Wu Tang and Lady Gaga is alright by me.
Jonny G's has aptly earned the nickname "Frisco Disco." It's a hookup scene, with locals, ski-bunnys, and riffraff all thrown into the mix. The drinks are cheap, there are plenty of pool, darts, pinball and foosball to go around and when all else fails hit the dance floor or chat-up your neighbor on the bar stool...this is sure to provide some good stories for the next morning (trust me I know from experience). The people watching is priceless...I am pretty sure if I was a local this would be my spot.
Rude bartender was messing with laptop all night not paying attention to customers. My friend bought a pitcher and forgot to drop a few bucks. Within 5 seconds she called him out and said "thanks for the tip". It was an honest mistake and I would have dropped a few bucks had he left without doing so. That really made me mad. On top of the poor service this place is really cheesy. Playing lame music from Sirius Boneyard. Better bet is to go to the Moosejaw if in Frisco and looking for a dive.
Review Source:I went to the girls drink free PBRs and wells on Weds! This place was absolutely exciting!
Fresh varieties of peeps! Africans, cowboys, gapers, rastas, mountain men, Swedish knockouts, chill chicks, old cool dudes, all shaking their assets to a very nice DJ who actually takes requests. long island ice t's are only 2$. pool tables, darts, fusball, tvs, a smoking patio, and a cool bouncer complete the great sports bar-dance club feel. Check it out Wednesday nites!
