I must say I liked watching a concert from USANA - The seating was great (I'm not a fun of the GA seating) and the outdoor feel was great!  The beers were 9 bucks and the food was average at best... so eat & drink up before you go, or take a few hundred bucks so you can enjoy yourself!

    Cheers!

Great first night last night. Excellent venue, staff, and upcoming lineup. A "must see" for Salt Lake City! United Concerts does a great job getting in top talent for both single acts and day long festivals. It's clean, the people are friendly, and the amenities are top notch. Highly recommend!

There is something special when it comes to listing to your favorite artist/band under the sky. Since this place opened it has been considered one of the best venues in the valley. It is way out of the way and not close to anything but cows and farmland, but what it hinders in distance it makes up for unadulterated musical bliss. Great concessions but they are pricey, and beer is the drink of choice for many. The lawn is great to lay in while listing to some jams, as well the seats are comfy and greatly designed with a slope that creates a great seat anywhere.

The only thing i hate is the drive.  It is far like west side far, half way to Wendover, ha.  The drive home is even worse because the streets are full of police ready to nail you for that really expensive beer you had.  Like $9 expensive beer or $6 for coors light.  Great acoustics and seats or grass, cant go wrong.  People watching is priceless.

This is an OK venue. I love that the restrooms are plentiful and the line is never horrendously long.

The lawn is a fun party area and cheap to get tickets for, but its far away from the stage and it makes me sad when i can't see the artists face. i find it very weird that general admission pit tickets are so much more expensive in Utah. In every other state I've lived at, General Admission is always the cheapest and you just fight your way to the front of the stage if you want a good spot.

The security staff will pat you down, so it's tough to sneak any contraband in. Not that there's anything I'd need to sneak in. There's a line for guys and a line for girls and they feel up your back, pockets, thighs and everywhere else. For the ladies, they don't go near the cleavage area if you catch my drift.

if you're hungry, there are plenty of food vendors inside as well as beer stands. Beers are $8 and $9 depending on brand, so be prepared to spend a fortune on drinks if you plan to have any there.

When I recall the great times I've had at USANA Amphitheatre (thank you to whomever fixed it; you know who you are), I typically don't dwell too much on the downside. Like, I don't usually think about the PITA process for getting inside, including a full-on TSA sexual trespass to ensure you're not packing anything prohibited like a still-sealed water bottle or an umbrella, or the fact that they rob you blind for lousy beer & food, or the 50-person lines at their insufficient water-closets (which are always out of TP), or the minimum mandatory 90 minutes you will wait to get out of the parking lot.

Nope, I tend not to think about that stuff, because USANA books some really great shows. I've seen many here, and have enjoyed 99%. It really wouldn't be fair to blame USANA for the cataclysm of Country-Jam, though. (shiver)

There is no charge to park in their massive field lot, unless you want a special upfront spot (plan on spending the night). They do offer VIP treatment/tickets for a LOT more money if you buy your way in. We were lucky enough to experience this on one occasion because some friends couldn't attend last-minute. It was ... nice. But, I felt a little like we had won a contest, and were being shuffled about as if we were in the way, and they were bothered by the fact that we were there. They did give us wine, though. So, we opted not to destroy them after all.

There's really nothing like an outdoor venue when you're enjoying bands like Cake, and 311. It's a feeling of pure freedom to uninhibitedly dance around in your own little blanket-covered 3 square feet with only the solar system as a ceiling.

Oh, and before I forget, depending on the show, you will likely catch a wicked contact high from your neighbors. Don't worry. If you're handed anything you don't want to put your lips on, just pass it and smile. We'll leave it at that.

Seating configuration at USANA is usually two-fold: expensive and uncomfortable chair seating in the 1/4 space up front, or grass seating (no pun intended) on the back 3/4 area of lawn (a la BYOBlanket).

So, in conclusion, you can count on the 60 to 90 minutes of actual performance to be enjoyable at USANA, of course depending on who's performing. It's the entire rest of the experience of actually being at USANA that I continue to try to forget.

No one goes to a venue for the venue's sake, but to see whoever is playing there, right?  Usana's not bad, as they come.  The parking situation is terrible- the lots are all gravel, getting in and out is a PAIN, and you have to pay $20 for "premium" parking, which I suspect is just somewhat less sucky (but then it'll take you longer to get out, since you parked closer to the ampitheater and further from the exit.)  The bathrooms are housed in trailers and midway through the concert, half of them were clogged and out of TP.  The food was awful and overpriced (no surprises there...) and in general the venue just looks a little sad and old.

That beside, the lawn was fairly well-kept and clean (at least when we all arrived!) and of course, it's still great to be outdoors for a terrific concert.  There are more expensive seats below too for those more fortunate than I.

The bathrooms are only a 3 out of 5 on my venue grossness scale, with 1 being pristine a la The Depot, 4 being almost unusable a la In The Venue, and 5 being portable. As an outdoor concert venue, that's pretty good.

One beef: They don't list umbrellas on any of their "prohibited items" lists, but they were making people leave them at the gates in a huge pile and saying they could find their umbrella after the show. (yeah, right.)

They offer regular seats as well as general admission lawn seats.  I've seen concerts from both, and I have to say I prefer the lawn.  Sitting on the hill, on the grass, with a blanket to define personal space beats other peoples' sweat on me any day.  The sound and the view are just fine from the lawn, and even kind of better because of the vantage point.

The parking is not terrible, the trick seems to be to park as far away as possible, in order to be among the first to escape.  Also, watch for mud and rocks.  I'm officially declaring this a no-stiletto zone.  Ever. Not even for the biggest and most important rock bands of our generation and the one before. Unless you're a dude at a Motley Crue concert and you're wearing a Dee Snyder wig, a leopard print faux fur vest, and humping a chick on the lawn, in which case, go for the heels.

The beer prices are not as horrifying as other venues.  I expected to pay $12 for a 16 oz beer, and reality was $8 for a 24 oz beer.  Many of the concession stands are operated by schools and other groups as fund raisers, so paying their prices doesn't sting quite as badly as, say, dropping six bucks for a churro to pad some venue exec's pocket.  I mean, if I wanted a churro I probably would go for it either way, but that helps.
