I really had high expectations for this place! Very Disappointing......... VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! First thing It's slightly FAR from the city No Biggie that's why we have Cars! It's In a shopping plaza also no biggie a lot of ATL clubs are in plazas. All you hear about is velvet room this and velvet room that so I had to visit to see what all the hype was about.I went on a sunday night cause a friend of mine was throwing a party.
So via radio advertisement Ladies are Free all night or before 12 yea right we walked up and the lady said $40 but as stated before my Friend was throwing the party so My admission was free but i was glad to know they false advertise. So Ladies don't come thinking you will be free listening to the radio because you'll be in for a rude awakening.

Club: Narrow,Hard Floors, No seating unless your in VIP or a wheelchair!!!your allowed to smoke inside YUCK!!!
Thank God My friend was having a party because this would have been an awful night for me! Paying $40 to get in only to stand on a hard floor in 6 inch heels all night. Not a good look for any female that loves her feet!!

Bathrooms: They have an attendant but it still manages to be disgustingly DIRTY!! The attendant is trying to make her money no time to manage clogged sinks or toilets!
Some stales have the doors DUCK TAPPED on? Wow One hard swing and that bad boy is off the hinges LMAO!!!
I went in the bathroom and was immediately turned off I felt like i was off Old Natl somewhere.

Best thing to Do is get a Section
We were in the top VIP and when I tell you we were Jam PACKED!!! It was not the clubs fault but still I was uberly uncomfortable and my friend tried his best to accommodate my picky self but after a few drinks I was swallowed in the crowd!!! Seats hurt my butt, no real cushion.

The music was good of course, drinks were reasonable Im assuming :-/
I was so ready to leave it was unreal this place is no where near upscale, sit in the parking lot and just see what the people wear STRAIGHT COMEDY!! This the Ghetto boo-shey folks spot !!
I will not return to this place!!!

I gave it 1 star because when we left out it was a BBQ truck outside and the food was soooo good OMG!!! that was the only perk Rib Tips Plate for $8

Disclaimer: This review is only in reference to their Sunday night events. I really wanted to like this place, so much in fact that I've been here about 5 times and have NEVER had a good time!  First of all they hold the line and only let in one person at a time and once you get inside there are no seats! So ladies be prepared to stand outside for a while & not have anywhere to sit unless you catch one of the couches at the upper side bar. Patrons come to ppl watch and very few dance unless their wasted. I always feel like i'm at the zoo, people standing by holding their drinks just watching!  Oh and don't you dare try to come on any kind of holiday!!!! Never again Velvet room, sorry!

Young crowd. Top 40s music. Bad location.

Showed up this weekend and it was $30 for ladies / $40 for gentlemen by the time I got there around 1AM - crazy expensive, but I had promised to meet some friends there, so whatever. The music was good and there were a lot of sexy-dressed people in costume. The crowd was a huge majority of Asians, which I was already mentally prepared for. There was supposedly a $1000 costume contest, which I saw no evidence of. Drinks were on the expensive side and did not taste very good.

The security guys were definitely on their toes about catching underaged drinking, which both is a good and bad thing. Good because underaged drinking is a no-no; bad because they were COMPLETE DICKS about it! I was stopped by two guys on two separate occasions while carrying the same ONE drink. I showed my wrist band but they demanded for my ID anyway. The first guy looked at my ID, then to me, then back at my ID, then back to me.. made a disgusted "there's no way this is your ID / FML / F my job" look, gave my ID back and walked away. The second guy wasn't as bad, but still. The second guy said my wristband was not the right color, but I stood in the freezing cold line and that's the wristband they slapped on me. WTF???

    Ehhh I have seen better....

The crowd was mainly 30+, its located in a shopping center, its far as hell from downtown atl, everyone was completely under-dressed. The drinks were horrible to the point I just started asking for shots. The music was blah. VIP was blah, Well Scrappy and Gucci Mane was there so you know it was Ghetto. Definitely not my crowd....

I have been to Velvet Room twice and I was unimpressed both times I went. Last time I went on a Sunday, which is way better I must admit crowd and scene wise, but holding the line... really? There is no other club anywhere nearby! Nobody needs to wait outside so it "looks packed" if people already drove AWAY from any other option. For real... cut the shenanigans.
This past weekend I went on a Saturday which haphazardly was an 18 and up night... knew something was wrong when I saw a whole bunch of females in flats and kitten heels in line and once again waiting in line... $40 VIP?!? No thank you! We get in have a good time because its my girls birthday celebration but hold on... my receipt says I spent $32.00 at the bar, why my bank account was drafted $50??? Why was the birthday girls receipt saying $18.00 and her account was deducted $50 as well??? Anyone smell a scam or was it the bartender. I'm grown, have no time to play CLUE, but I will be disputing these charges (Thank goodness I didn't lose my receipt! whew!)
Music and atmosphere is good but definitely not worth the hassle or the drive when there is so much better in the city. Hope you guys bring cash and find this helpful!

I've been to the Velvet Room twice, both times were on a Saturday where women were free all night.

We got there late (after 12) So we didn't wait in any lines or anything.
There isn't really a lot of seating, I mean, it's usually all taken up unless you get there pretty early anyway. There were a few guys acting a bit ratchet and grabby. :-/  I've never experienced someone literally just lingering around you and your group of friends, after you've already expressed that you're uninterested in dancing with them... and then follow you out of the club! It's was extremely creepy, like... Go away! Ha ha, but aside from that we still had a good time when we went.

Good music and some cute guys.

Everytime I'm in the A I make a point to have off on on Monday just so I can come here on a Sunday night because I always have a great time. But u have to know how to do it right or else you are going to a experience a few hours of STRESS!

Sure you can always waste your life away by waiting in that ridiculous ass line because you are dying to get in for free. But I'm tellin you now. That line does NOT, I repeat DOES NOT MOVE!. I just suck it up, expect to pay the 20 bucks so I can go right on in and save the stress (and pre-game buzz) by waiting.

There is no seating unless you are VIP so PLEASE be mindful of the heels you wear (ladies) or just go (like we do) after 12. And hey sometimes ladies night is all night so by going after 12 you miss the 10:15-11:30 rush and you can basically walk in after 15 or so mins for the free.

The crowd is dressy, classy, and there to party have a good time so just as long as you do your entry right you will have a great night the ENTIRE night!

    I love this place.

Let me start off by saying I would of given this club more stars but I didn't have fun everytime I went.

This club is pretty good, It's a very nice crowd, the venue is very nice and I love the energy. I never had to pay for parking or to get in, but I you still have to pay the price by waiting in the line that only moves every 5 minutes.

Sometimes it is too packed to the point where you get fustrated because someone is bumping into everywhere you go.

The Dj is pretty good, always plays different music, very diverse.... love it

Velvet Room was THE place to go to in 2007-08. It was huge, it was nice inside, there were several bars and FREE parking. What more could you want? Over the years, VR stopped being the place to go to as more places opened up closer to the city. When I went for Halloween this past Saturday, it was the first time I'd been since 2008.

My group had reserved a table so we expected, at the very most, a brief wait in line. We arrived around 11 and were shocked to see the mega line of people already waiting out in the cold. This was the regular line. However, even the VIP line was quite lengthy. We managed to get in after 45 minutes of waiting and that was only because someone in our large group knew someone working there or something. If we didn't have that connection, I have no idea how long we would have been out there, even with the table reservation.

I thought maybe the long wait was due to the fact that the club might be close to over-capacity. However, when I walked in, there was hardly anyone there! What gives with the long wait?! On top of it, it took another 30 minutes before they brought over our bottles.

The music that night was mid-2000's hip-hop -- think Usher's "Yeah" and similar songs from that timeframe. It was refreshingly different and brought me back to the early days of clubbing at VR.

Highly doubt I will be back unless it is a special event, but make sure to come early if you do decide to go.

Was disrespected. I've brought a friend from overseas to check out the  american clubs. Nothing but greyhounds. The drinks are more than the average nice club/lounge prices.  Its a crowd hall club.  $20 to get in for male and female for that night. Very crowded. Maybe things have changed since that time I have went, but I won't know because I don't go there anymore.

So much fun! Yes we had to wait in line for an hour, but we didn't have to pay. Yes it was packed to the gills, but I don't want to be at a club with no people. Yes, the drinks were pricey, but they were strong as $hit. Yes we had to pay $20 to park up front, but I don't wanna walk crazy far in my heels. Music was live and everyone was looking fly. Such a fun night!

I went here this past Sunday because my bestie was celebrating a birthday.  We didn't get a table or anything, we just went as regular clubbers.

    Pros:
    (1) Ladies were free ALL NIGHT.
    (2) There was not a line but at the same time (3) The club was not empty. (4) The drinks were strong. I was done after one teenie weenie shot of patron, and I usually can drink more. But I myself am a teenie weenie person so that might have made a difference?

    Cons:
(1)I paid $30 for 3 shots of patron!!!!  And I know patron is a little bit costly she  had them in those plastic cups (the ones that has a rim thats wider than the bottom) And if you hold out your fingers to make the peace sign and then close the space between those two fingers and point them out like a gun, that's about how much she filled the cup!!! That would barely fill one of those medicine cups that comes on the caps of medicine bottles... but like i said. It did me in anyways : /

(2)Smoking.  It wasn't as bad as it was at the Compound but i just can't get over the fact that you can smoke anything from a cigarette to mary jane in the club.

(3)Paid for parking. $5 to park in the mcdonalds parking lot ...

    (4) Location. Really? A shopping center??

    (5) I ran into my twin(who lives in DC) 's friend, who mistook me for her at first. In which he then felt that we were close enough for him to ask me and my friends to give him a ride to his hotel. : /

All in all it wasn't the best i've experienced. But it wasn't horrible either. The music was that of a standard ATL club. But I wish he would've played some reggae. They dance here which I like. Because at Compound i swear everyone was standing still.

The Velvet Room has always been pretentious.

Only back in the early 2000s, it could actually get away with it because it was on 10th Street in midtown and the promoters would occasionally get decent talent to perform there.  If nothing else, it had a decent stream of DJs that played club hits that went beyond the top 40.  So it was decent.

Enter the current Velvet Room.  Oh, it's retained all of the pretention of its former self, it just forgot to keep any of the coolness.  I actually commented to the doorman after he gave my girlfriend a hard time about the guest list, "Don't you think you are being a little pretentious for a club located right next door to a Big Lots?"

Yes.  Velvet Room is directly next door to Big Lots.  It is.  Seriously.

Maybe they brought the bar.  Maybe they brought the lights.  Hell, maybe they even brought valet to a suburban parking lot (where parking is a non-issue, how in the world did they get away with this?), but you can't import cool to Chamblee Tucker Road.  That's why the crowd has gone downhill and you won't find any of the same people there that you did 5 or 6 years ago.  They may advertise as the "legendary" Velvet Room, but I assure you that the legend portion is long dead.

I'm not trying to say that you can't be in the suburbs and still be cool.  If I thought that, I wouldn't have moved out of the city.  However, you do have to have a little bit of sense and get some kind of cool space, not in a strip mall next to a Big Lots.  The Velvet Room looks exactly like what it is:  a big square in a big box retail space that tried to dress it up a little with lights and bars.  It draws its crowd accordingly.

It was fun, drinks was great and i had a blast. I hated standing outside in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, but when i went inside it was refreshing and nice. Music was great. Just the smoking i couldnt handle but i realized thats every club in ATL.

I LOVE Velvet. I had heard so many mixed reviews about it so I was in no rush to go. But eventually I decided that I wanted to see what it was like for myself. I went the night of the SuperBowl and their kitchen was open. My food was really good. I got to see what the club looked like before they dimmed the lights and the entire set-up is really nice! I was impressed. Now, I don't know if parking is free or not. I parked right in front and the parking attendant claimed it wasn't free, but said it was free for me, so he says. Lol. The DJ was great and I danced the night away like usual.

I can't wait to return on another Sunday night :).

Great place to shake your tail feather. The Downside is that the crowd is theme based, so if you're just trying to find a decent place on any given day of the week, it's hard to guesstimate "who" or "what crowd" will be there.

They have Asian night, Hip Hop night and I dunno whatever else... it's just hit or miss sometimes depending on who you're trying to be around. Anytime I've gone it's been a great time either way. Drinks are solid but pricey, and I enjoy the large dance floor.

Beware of the Lines that can wrap around like it's 6 flags, and the covers if you're arriving late.

I had my birthday here and I would not come to this club WITHOUT renting a VIP booth. I was lucky enough to get a spot on the mezzanine, so I did not have my booth next to the dance floor, but on top of an elevated platform above the heat and closeness of the dancing masses.

A bottle was included with the booth and my party enjoyed the Grey Goose birthday shots! I had visited the club during the daytime to scope out my seating arrangement and I saw holes in the sofas. I could not figure out where these perfectly circular holes had come from and was slightly disappointed to see the VIP section in such a state.

But alas! When I was good and tipsy I realized that the holes came from the fashionable stilettos of women who were just like me: having a good time at the velvet room, sippin drinks in VIP.......and then we proceed to dance on the sofas in our heels!!

Other than that, everything was great!! This place got really packed and we had to wait until the place was almost empty to get out of VIP.

I'd do it all again too!

    Awesome freaking club!

Pros: lots of fun, sexy and beautiful people.
Pros: a place where celebrities actually party
Pros: The secruity/doormen are awesome! Nice group of people

Cons: This place gets extremely packed... so packed that it was unsafe. I even lost my new and prized bracelet.

Cons: I received an email about free entry/ $20 VIP all night. Well someone lied b/c VIP was really an express line...no VIP access at all.

This was my first Atlanta club experience... I would say it was a 4 instead of 5 due to no seating.  Girls like me wanna look cute and we wear our high heels.  By 1:30 am my dogs were barking yall!  I am not bawlin outta control so no I can't afford VIP seats jus yet.  But the line on this Friday moved steady and I paid $20.00 for VIP line that was shorter than the regular.  Drinks kinda pricey.  I loved the atmosphere and DJ was on point.  Crowd was dressed very nice but da gurls were mean muggin me and my friend.  Well that made me wanna drink more.  By the time I left I was WASTED yall and did not care.

Update:  Well I decided to host my bday at the Velvet Room in VIP on a Friday (Grown and Sexy) night.  I had an absolute balll but I gotta tell ya bout the curve balls.  I had ppl comin in from out of town and I admit this is where u need to go show company a good time.  Sundays are Velvet's most popular night b/c it's free all nite for ladies and their are more celebs.  With that being the said VIP booth I got for $500 on Fri was &1200 on Sun.  The booth was right on the dancefloor (#6) and included $400 worth of drinks and 20 wristbands to pass out.  They said Ciara was hosting, but she nvr appeared.  I don't rly care bout this, but c'mon why yall lying?  They make u buy a bottle which are 250-300 dollas, then take it out of ur 400 dollas worth drinks.  You must tip ur waitress 20% of ur 400 $.  So that was frustrating but once I hung that stuff up I had fun.  The booth is huge and I had 10 ppl with me comfortably, and it's right on the dancefloor once u lift the velvet rope.  So my gurls are cute, well guys were jus lookin up ovr the rope like they were lost puppies and wanted to be adopted.  Sooo sad but entertaining.  Bottle service was nice, I jus drank grey goose and pineapple/cranberry all nite.  Ahhh how sweet it is to wear 6 inch heels and be able to sit yo ass down.

Me and three of my friends hit up the Velvet Room on a Friday night. We went after midnight and there was a short line.We all felt that we should have charged security for the cavity check she performed to let us in. However, the deejay was on point and the cocktails were a bit high, but they had plenty of alcohol so it was worth it.

We had a good time and I didn't feel the club was ghetto.

My friend and I decided to try the Velvet Room this past Sunday night.  Ladies Free All Night! We arrived at the club around 10:30 and parked near the front.  We figured that we were early since the line was not that long.  We waited to get into the club for an hour and a half...that's right, we did not get in until midnight.  It was utterly ridiculous.  Security was letting entrants in one at a time as to ensure that they did not exceed fire code. ( By the way, same sex security will frisk you before letting you enter the club.  And when I say frisk, she stuck her fingers under the underwire of my bra and then decided to ask me was I trying to hide anything in there.  Evidently NOT!)

Inside, the club was lavish, huge, ...and empty!  It did not get even close to being crowded until well after one o'clock.  I stood by the bar all night and watched the drunken antics of the crowd.  I thought that because this club was "grown and sexy", the crowd would live up to my expectations.  But I was soon confronted with the reality that grown and sexy did not describe the caliber of people, but their attire. (They dressed "grown and sexy", but refused to act like it.)

What particularly disturbed me about the Velvet Room is that they don't allow you to bring cameras into the club.  Yet, they have photographers that will take your picture and also print them on a portable digital printer for a fee.  Additionally, if you perhaps make a love connection, there is also a flower guy who walks around selling roses.  Lastly, several hispanic men in white button down shirts were scattered around the club with brooms and dust pans waiting for debris to touch the dance floor so that they could swarm in and save the day.

The Velvet Room is a difficult place to meet people...esp quality individuals.  But ladies, if you are bored on a Sunday night, grab some girlfriends and a few drinks and throw your cares to the wind.

Anytime someone mentions velvet room, it makes me wanna dry-heave.

To be honest, I've never actually been inside because the bouncers were such douche bags to our friend.  He was wearing a t-shirt, a very expensive t-shirt, I might add with very awesome everything else.  But the bouncers felt that they were just sooooo classy that they couldn't let him in (so of course, we weren't gonna just leave him outside).  Come on, guys!  First of all, let me remind you, you're in a ghetto parking lot NEXT TO A FREAKING BIG LOTS...oh yeah, real classy.  Just in case your patrons forgot to eat dinner, you've conveniently situated yourself next to a Big Lots where they can pick up a can of pork 'n' beans and RC cola on their way in.  Great.  Beggars can't be choosers, you losers.  Second, I think any relatively hot chick in the group should be able to negate whatever "shortfalls" the first guy has.  So give him a break, you thugs.

Oh, and any club that has to artificially inflate the lines outside by keeping customers miserable in the cold and rain to make it look cool obviously has a little problem with their self esteem, hmmmm??  What a load of crap.

I loved the original Velvet Room in midtown. Now they moved further up north next to a Big Lots--not that there is anything wrong with that.

For some reason, my Asian friends want to go here. So I go with them when I have nothing else to do. It's okay. But I'll always remember the horrible service I received from The Velvet Room:
    * They hassled my friend that wore a t-shirt. He wore a freaking sports coat over the t-shirt and the t-shirt probably cost more than any collared shirt.
    * Not only that, they refused to take our free-entry passes since our name wasn't on the sheet. BS.
    * Other stuff that I probably forgot.

They also play crappy top-40 stuff and rap. They don't have any diversity in their music. I have a feeling this place is gonna close down soon. And I hope that it'll happen so my friends won't keep dragging me to this place.

Ahhh the Velvet Room... either love it or hate it, depending on the night.  The club itself is nice and pretty spacious. It's usually free before 11 for ladies, but that depends so try to find out before you go. Otherwise its the standard $20. Also give it some time, because they ALWAYS make you wait in that horrendous line (in front of a Big Lots :/ ) Good thing is that parking is usually free and its not too far from midtown (just hop on 85N)

    Friday nights:
Its "grown and sexy" night on Fridays, with music courtesy of V-103. The crowd is okay looking, but too preppy for my likes. There's a lot of frat bros and sistas. The music is okay, mostly R&B.
I'd give it 2.5 stars for Fridays.

    Saturday nights:
This is when the asian and white people come out to partaayy, whoot! The music is thanks to Q100 and it sucks for the most part unless you love pop music and top 40. For some reason there are very few good looking people on Saturdays... or so it seems.
I give it 1 star for Saturdays.

    Sunday nights:
Hot 107.9 hosts on Sundays and the party is usually pretty good. The music is the best on Sundays (mostly hip-hop) and people are there to have a good time. It's not preppy (or "grown"... whatever that means) like it is on Fridays. I've also found it a little less crowded since its Sunday except when there is an event. Sunday events tend to be the best too.
    I give Sundays 4 stars :)

I have fun every time I go to this place! Love it:)
The drinks are a bit pricey but the music is good and the crowd is pretty good. The dress code is reinforced, security, you can get a table, sit by the bar, dance or just chill.

I have had many good times at Velvet Room.  This place is small, but still has an adequate amount of space for dancing.  The decor is extremely well put together.  The bartenders are fantastic but I could do without the go-go dancers who spend most of the night text messaging on their cell phones.  I have always gone on Saturday nights and the DJ plays a good range of music.  If you can afford to be sure to get a private booth area with bottle service.

It really depends on which day of the week you go to VR. I go on the Q100 Saturday Nights where mostly Asians are in the club. It used to be very good and packed, but nowadays people don't show up till past 12:30. On Thursday nights, it could be college night where it is 18 and up to party. Admission is usually twenty bucks though even before 12. I would like to see how VR is on Friday or Sunday. Good thing is parking is free and if you get hungry or bored, you could always eat some McDonalds or ordered wings and sing karaoke at Wings Korea (both in the same plaza).

I have been to Velvet room 2x in my life.  One time it was really good, the other time it was really HOOD.

The first time was for a musiq soulchild concert...the drinks were flowing and the concert was amazing...so that made it all good.

The second time was on a random sunday night, the line was long, the admission was ridiculous ( i am too embarrased to say what i paid to get in), and the women were "gag"---so that was all hood.

I actually think the venue is a really good looking spot.  Its actually one of the nicer places to go to in Atlanta....however, I guess its really not about the venue when the ppl that enter the place are sh---ty.

So go experience it for yourself...I doubt ill be back unless its for a private event...

I have only been to Velvet Room on Fridays when either a friend or I have had a booth.  Booth service is excellent and I like the crowd.  The ambiance is nice, and the booths are spacious enough and about as comfortable as expected.  Parking is usually good and we normally don't have to walk to far (good old cold nights).  However, I have noticed that the general admission lines are normally pretty long, so I highly recommend VIP.  The only thing that is stopping a 5-star rating is the DJ.  He/she was average at best.

This ain't Vegas- for sure. Don't let the odd location in a Big Lots parking lot fool you. Once you walk in you'll change your mind. The music is different on any given night, from hip hop to mash ups, to top 40's. The place glows of red lighting and bars along the walls.

Aaaaaaahhhhh the Velvet Room.....one my favorite spots to hit up when it I'm looking for a place to dance, shake my booty and listen to the rhythms of the night!!!

Velvet Room is situated in an odd spot (in a Big Lots shopping center)....I know sounds a bit shady right, but when you walk through that door, you'd never imagine what lies behind it.......the room stretches for miles it seems, and velvet  all over the place, beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, a dance floor so big, yet always packed to the brim.

I love the fact that this club leaves so much room for surprise when you walk in, you'd never imagine that it'd be so big, spacious, and classy looking! Granted the crowd is pretty hit or miss (sometimes you'll have classier people and others just young "crunk" crowds)......you're always guaranteed a good time though if you like hip-hop music.

It's off the beaten path off Chamblee Tucker, so it's a good place to go if you're not trying to ride all the way into town. I agree with Falicia, definitely get there early if you want to avoid long lines and cover charges.

Now that you've read this review....get off your couch, and go out and get your dance on!!!    :)

My ears are still ringing!  I JUST got home from the Velvet Room so please excuse my typos.  This club is huge and covered in velvet.  The dance floor is large as well so you have plenty of room to shake it.  We had a great time!

Get there before midnight or else you'll have to pay a $20 cover charge.  No thanks!

I recently moved down here so every thing has been new scenes and under scrutiny to my NY eye. The set up was nice with an area to dance and another to sit around. Good for a mixed crowed, which is always a plus in my books. Not an over crowded scene like I'm usto with sweat box crowding (another plus). The music was back and forth heard a few repeats but then I did get there early so it was predetermined with the switch if DJ's to hear it happen. Nothing really stood out about it but I would go back again.

Great place to see and be...groped?

I have been to this place a couple times and despite the 20 something crowd, I had an excellent time.  The crowd is vibrant and barely dressed and the whole place is packed in like sardines after midnight.  Go early and pick your bustiered bartendress early, because you may have to move your tab.  Drinks are inconsistant between the lovely ladies.

The dance floor is huge and until they painted over the beautiful hardwood floor, it was great to dance on.  But it will still do for the pumping, throbing club music they usually spin.  The place will eventually get too full to dance anyway.

Overall, little bit pricey and I laugh at the whole velvet rope VIP deal, but I have never gone and not enjoyed myself.

My friend got a job here as a bartender and she had me come up their about a year ago.  Since then, I been their a few more times and its really nice.  Multiple bars so you dont have to wait too long for a drink.  Nice sized dance floor to dance on.  Good selection of music, but is it me or is it an asian club?  I been their 3 or 4 times and its been mostly(about 85 - 90%) asians.

While the thought of a club being one giant room might sound weird, this one will make you rethink that. Velvet is another club owned by AG entertainment, the owners of The Royal and Compound, so they usually keep their clientle pretty good, enforce a sexy and stylish dress code, and try to bring the bigger venues of all sorts to their place. So let's get to it!

Location: Velvet is in a shopping center (that's right kids) off Chamblee Tucker. It's pretty easy to find, just get off and find the Mc Donalds before 285 and you're there. If you can't find a place to park, you're really really late or just parking inept, in either case you might have to settle for some over priced valet. But all in all it's fairly good location, the line is on the plaza's walkway so you don't have to wait in the rain or anything, and there's usually a good crowd on any given night.

Design: Velvet Room is just that, one deceivingly large room decorated in glass chandeliers, red velvet, and of course the screens and LCDs of sound and video. As an employee of the company for light and sound, it's nice, good sound system without being quite so in your face as the Compound, and a slightly larger dance floor, which is the whole floor. There are several bars with plenty of arm space to stand there and people watch or catch en eye, and the multiple VIP tables and area are usually booked each night or available with a nice off the floor or over the floor view to see or be seen. As I said before, it's quite large inside and hosts a great night whether you're hunting, dancing, or watching.

Music: Velvet, unlike Compound and Royal, plays mostly Hip Hop, R&B  every night. So don't expect much on the euro, techno, house, rock type much, but that's just the style of place it is. They still play the usually Top 40s all over, but more like V-103 than Q100 or anything.

So there ya go, my take and review of Velvet Room. If it sounds like your type of place, go check it out, if not, stick to what you think you'll like, but don't say I didn't tell you what to look forward to ;)

UPDATE!!!!: Compound and Velvet Room are switching their Saturday night venues, now Saturdays at Velvet will be House, Electro, Top 40, Mix Style and Compound will be hosting Hot 107s Hip Hop Night. So be on the look out!!!

This is a nice club - not your usual downtown club - its huge on the inside, you'll never know that seeing it from the outside.  Its located in shopping center and their was plenty of parking.  Last night I went here to celebrate my birthday and to see the unbelieveably talented Musiqsoulchild.  Musiq of course was fantastic and sang beautifully.  We had VIP status and the VIP area was very plush and comfortable - drinks were flowing all night because the event was sponsored by Courvousier and so all drinks were free. I would like to go back to this venue just to have drinks and hang out at a later date.  I would like to see how things are on a regular Thursday or Friday night.
