I'm not a fan of the cafeteria-style presentation of it, but I sure am a fan of the food! In the area for a business trip, the locals kept raving about the Village Cafeteria. "We have to go on Wednesday because that's the day they have chicken casserole." Ok, so it's been planned for a few days already. Looking at the chicken casserole, it didn't look too appetizing to me, so I chose the country fried steak, a good southern default choice, smothered in brown gravy, with a side of mashed potatoes & green beans, all washed down with a huge glass of sweet tea. What a great southern lunch!
My coworker kindly offered a bite of his chicken casserole because he believed so much that I should try it. Goodness, I should have listened to him! Delicious! So good, in fact, that I ordered one to go for dinner later that night. And I added on a piece of their chocolate oreo cake: chocolate cake layer, oreo icing layer, chocolate cake layer, chocolate frosting layer. The casserole was still good warmed up hours later. My dessert was large, but a little dry. The icing/frosting layers were really yummy, though, so that kind of made up for the dryness.
I'm probably never going to find myself in Chatsworth again, but if I do, I'll definitely need to get more casserole. Unfortunately, it's not served every day, so I'd have to schedule it strategically.
