Village Pub

I love this place & not just because the owner is friendly & funny & has one of the coolest bands on LI. I can't speak for the beer because I don't drink ~ I come for the live bands & rock n roll jams. You never know who's gonna show up & sit in. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's a bit of a drive and my sense of direction is  horrible ~ I get lost a lot. But when I get there it's so worth it. If you're looking for a pseudo-upscale city club that's more about style than sounds, The Village Pub isn't for you. But if you're looking for a real deal rock n roll bar,  this is the place.

I have only been here twice, and both times to see the same band (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fserialpoets.com%2F&s=ec295957db5ff0917397bacfaa8fa66425241fe85d2decf211f2dc59fe762468" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://serialpoets.com/</a>) who seem to play here almost exclusively.

My star rating comes with caveats:

1. The band in question is made up of friends of mine, the bulk of whom I have know for twenty years or more.

2. I have to give props to a place that offers original rock and roll bands a place to perform.

3. Both times I have visited, I have seen old friends whom I have not seen in ages and thus I have very warm feelings about the place.

Pluses
The staff is friendly, the pour on my neat Jim Beam would be called a double at most establishments, and they have a TV with the Yankees game playing.

Minuses
Lindenhurst is one of those shit-stain towns on LI with little going on and a population rife with jag-offs who would look right at home on the Jersey Shore, so if there are regulars here (I think they might avoid it on music nights) they might be folk you'd want to avoid.

The beer selection is seriously bullshit: I think it consisted of Bud, Bud Light, Corona, Heineken, and Amstel (I may have forgotten a Miller or Coors product, but you get the idea).  For many that is not a problem, but I can't stomach any of that crap.  It's 2010, get a fucking microbrew in the house.

Bottom line: You should probably only go here if you know a band is playing, or its within walking distance from your house.
