I was actually very surprised at this restaurant. Â A decent Italian good in small town Iowa who would have guessed? Â We had a family dinner here a few nights before I left Iowa.
It's not a sit down and order type restaurant. Â You order at the counter, which isn't terrible. Â They will deliver your meal to the table once it's finished. Â You get your beverage either from the cooler to the right of the counter or from the soda fountain which is right by the register. Â
Once delivered the food is actually really good. Â The bread was fresh and hot and a bigger Italian loaf size over a sliced baguette. Â I had the lasagna of course. Â If the place has it, I order it. Â It was a decent size portion and served very hot out of the oven. Â Others ordered spaghetti special or the cavatini. Â They both looked like good size portions and were finished with smiles. Â
It was a jumping place by about 6PM on a week night. Â Lots of people in and out having dinner or picking up pizza and dinners to go.
Villaggio is a great little place to eat. Â Living here for the past year, we have past it many times but never found our way to the parking lot and inside. Â We finally made our way in. Â There wasn't a ton of people there but there was definitely business (we were there about an hour before closing). Â Since this was our first time there, we didn't know exactly how it worked. Â It was an order at the counter place with the menu above the order counter. Â That menu did not have any descriptions but a seperate paper menu did. Â Their prices were rather reasonable.
We started with an order of the cheese bread. Â I had the Cavatelli while my husband had the Panzerotti. Â We were rather surprised at what the cheese bread looked like as we would have called it cheese sticks. Â It was really good though! Â The Cavatelli was good and hot. Â After the cheese bread, I could not eat much of it due to eating too much bread. Â My dish also came with a salad and bread. Â The salad was just lettuce. Â The bread was good. Â My husband enjoyed his Panzerotti. Â Overall, a good amount of food for the price.
I have a feeling that we will find ourselves in the parking lot more often.
