Limey's Pub

Decent bar with a good bartender.  Many good beer choices but that seems to be pretty common in Des Moines.  It has a nice little outdoor area too.

My Wife and I were searching for an outdoor patio and some food on beautiful day in May.  We were striking out on our search when I remembered seeing this bar behind the chicken coop with a patio.  So we arrived at Limey's and ordered a couple beers.  We ordered some British Pub food (when in Rome! or maybe London!?!?) Any way I order the BBC (Bangers, beans and chips)  and my companion ordered the fish and chips.  The wait for food seemed to take a little longer than expected beings there was really no one there to speak of.  But once it did make it to our table it was mediocre at best.  My bangers (giant pork breakfast links) were cold and smothered in brown gravy from a packet.  The baked beans were of the canned variety.  The only star in this meal were the chips.  My wife's fish n chips were a little better choice.  The fish was huge and seemed fairly fresh.  But the peas and carrots that were served with it were inedible.  We enjoyed the patio beings that was what we were searching for in the first place but probably will not return for the food ever.

I was so looking forward to trying the fish n chips as a substitute for a Friday fish fry...my fish came out undercooked so I had to wait & watch my boyfriend eat a piece of haddock which was over cooked & dry. When I finally got my fish returned it looked almost burnt like they just threw it back in the deepfryer. :-/ I kid you not, I cut it open & there was no fish meat inside....kinda like theChriatmas turkey in Christmas vacation. It's like it evaporated into thin air. Needless to say, I ended up eating only the fries as my entire meal & they were too thick & soggy. The bartender was very sympathetic & offered to comp the meal & bring me a piece of haddock instead but I declined, as I wasn't that stoked about the couple bites that I had off my beau's plate. The bar tab didn't show the details of our bill but pretty sure we were charged for the under/over cooked fish anyway. Oh, I forgot to mention that the bartender told me that the cook mumbled something about the oil needing to be changed but they were too busy. I don't think we'll be going back.
