I can't believe no one has reviewed this place! Â And in case this doesn't get updated, they've moved to Merle Hay Road, just south of I-80. Â
Hugh's gets 5 stars, not because it's a classy, well-attended bar with clean facilities and great drinks. Â No, Hugh's gets 5 stars because there is nowhere else in town where you can go, any night of the week, and see ELVIS! Â
This place has karaoke every night, rain or shine. Â The new location is a bit nicer (the old one used to be a Pizza Hut, and smelled of cigarettes and broken dreams). Â Be prepared to see people your parents' age making complete fools of themselves, singing drunken songs from their youth. Â I was here on Saturday and a woman in her 40s fell over drunk at least four times before someone finally decided it was a good idea to take her home. Â I've never seen trouble, here, though, just maybe some folks having a little TOO much "fun".
The Jungle Room is owned by Hugh himself, a man who has probably seen Elvis live more than any other living human (for all I know, he still sees him), and he channels him each night as he rocks out to "Viva Las Vegas" or "Teddy Bear" on stage. Â Complete with sideburns, black jeans, and wiggling hips, Hugh is not to be missed. Â You can tell he really loves his bar!
You'll also get a good mix of a younger crowd, 20s and 30s, and you'll probably be treated by a few people who can actually really sing. Â Otherwise expect a night filled with raucous laughter at the expense of others.
