Not bad.
Except that we had to eat in the lounge area because the main eating area had a bad draft of frigid air. It made for an interesting meal though...sitting on ottomans and a couch, slouching over to reach the food on the low-standing coffee table. But hey! There was a fireplace!
The flat bread (the Cuban and the somethingorother chicken) were pretty tasty. A good crunch, a decent amount of softness, nice flavours, not bad at all. We also got a hot sandwich. I don't recall the meat (pastrami?), but the marbled rye bread that it was on was so, so, so soft. Probably the first time I've enjoyed that type of bread. The small square plate of potato chips was a little ridiculous though. Enough for one person and we were four.
The wine was great. I'm happy to say this, as they have one of the biggest selections of wine in the MD area (I believe). We ended up leaving with a $10 bottle of some of the best pinot noir I've had to date.
All in all, the experience was decent enough, but it didn't hold any 'wow' factors, so a 3 it is!
1 complaint. When you've ordered lunch and a few tastings of wine I would think they would give you a thimble taste of a wine you wanted to buy from the store, AND was already opened. But, our waiter wouldn't budge and said we had to order a 3 oz sample. Didn't think that was very accomodating when you're buying other bottles.
The lunch was much better than I expected. We had faltbreads that are ample for lunch and both were tasty and fresh. I really like the concept of 3oz pours and 6 oz pours in order to try the wines.
Good selection in the wine lounge/store next to the restaurant. Found some wines I normally don't see here in PA, but then again we have beloved "state stores", so that might not be saying much.
If you're in the area, it's a nice spot with good food and if you like wines, the selection by the glass is wonderful. Just don't ask for a teensy tasting, it won't happen.
Finished up our anniversary night out here. This place is beautiful inside. We started off at the bar for a glass of wine and ended up in the "retail" area of the restaurant which is basically a room that feels like a cozy wine cellar. Fireplaces, wall to wall wine, and comfy couches make this a perfect place to have a night cap. We loved this!
Review Source:This is the 2nd time my boyfriend and I have visited this venue while visiting his parents. The first time we sat in the main dining room and although I'm unable to have gluten or corn, they were super accommodating. This time we sat in the side room which features soft seating and a fire place. As previously the menu was fantastic as well as the wine selection. I could not recommend more highly the pork shank as it truely is the best that my boyfriend and I have ever had. Their variety of wines and knowledge of them Is unequivalent. Our sever was Andrea and she facilitated our wine selection beautifully. You NEED to check this place out if you are in town, but even if you are not, it's worth the trip!
Review Source:This establishment looks very good in a smal town with some real potential, but I found it rather devoid of warmth. I cannot testify for the food, but there are few tables and they are really small! The back room is terrific with a very comfortable lounge and a great place to taste a wine or chat. They are always chasing you out of there so they can get more people in. It's just not warm or inviting, and that's the thing I value most-- genuine friendliness and atmosphere. This is 2 star by my New York standards.
Review Source:I've been into the Vineyard twice now with my GF's family and really enjoyed it both times. The wine list is long and diverse and the food is excellent. I really like that they'll do tasting pours on almost everything so you can do a large tasting before you decide to buy and then you can take home whatever you enjoy as they sell bottles right there.
For food I especially recommend the flat breads. They're the perfect size for a couple people to share and they're all really tasty.
The only thing I would want is more information about the wines from the list (tasting notes etc.) or from the server. Other than that it's a really nice place to spend the afternoon.
Back when my husband and I were first dating, we stopped by The Vineyard after visiting the Concord Point Lighthouse. Â I remember having the most amazing strawberry salad. Â I can't remember the exact name, but it had blackened chicken, strawberries, I think almond slivers and either feta or goat cheese tossed in vinaigrette. Â It was amazing paired with wine. Â I unfortunately cannot recall what my husband had, but we both enjoyed the food and amazing view. Â Recommended.
Review Source:My favorite restaurant in Havre de Grace. The flatbread with arugula is out of this world! Â It's basically a tapas place, so be prepared for small plate dining. Great wine list and knowledgeable staff. Â
Ambiance is good, but come on guys get some original art on the walls and get rid of those cheesy prints!
This is a wonderful find. We were very happy with the wine list. nd the food ws excelent.  I can't wait to go back.  The ambience is good.  The decor  preserves the uniqueness of the old building. but updats waht needs updting. The waiter was just perfectly on note, helpful , but not ubiuious.
Review Source:They misrepresent their hours. We drove there to eat dinner and they said they were closed. Their hours said 5-8 but they told us the last seating is at 7. Â Why tell people you are open til 8 if you really aren't . I don't care what time you get off work, I want to know when I can come in to eat. We wasted an hour round trip and didn't get a meal. Useless!!
Oh and the music is awful, lite jazz that belongs in an elevator, not a restaurant. Â I love jazz and the satellite channel they play is horrid.
Vineyard Wine Bar unexpected surprise.
I was told by a friend that this restaurant/wine bar  in Havre de Grace was definitely worth checking out, I hesitated because of my past experiences with restaurants in Havre de Grace (MacGregor's and Tidewater Grille) which were only so-so. Â
Overall: Â Nice gem in Havre de Grace, long list of wines, lovely lounge area, and common food executed with a nod towards complex flavors. Â Lunch with 1 salad, 1 flatbread and 2 sandwiches and 3 wines with 1 tasting , 2 desserts and 1 coffee = $100 (tip included). Â Will update with Dinner reviews.
What I would like to see  - more complex flavors on the menu with innovative pairings, more attention to the importance on caramelization/use of fond and attention to food concerns (lactose intolerance, gluten-free/celiac, nuts, etc..)
Atmosphere
When you first pull up, you will realize that across the street from the restaurant is their wine shop (nice) AND they seem to have their own lot (or at least the signs indicate that they have parking space for the restaurant. Â
Walking in, you will notice a large bar to the left, dark hardwood floors and matching tables for 2-4 in a small seating area around the bar. Â This arrangement reminds me of the gastropubs in any city. Â If you want this experience, go ahead, but I woul d say to ask for seating into the lounge (Trust me).
Once you turn the corner from the bar, you will walk into the lounge area. Â I would describe it as sitting in a posh living room/wine cellar. Â The carpeted floors, 3 seating areas of couches and coffee tables complete with fireplace and flat screen will make you feel right at home, but not so home that you forget you are at a wine bar. The open cube bookshelves (think Expedit from Ikea) are filled with wines to serve as a continuous reminder that you are at a wine bar. Â If I didn't have other things to do that day, I would have stayed straight through until dinner and then some.
Food
The lunch menu consists of 3 items - salad, flatbread and sandwiches. Â Although I was hoping for a gastronomic adventure that paired with wine, I was happy to items that are normally familiar jazzed up with a touch of sophistication. Â
We ordered: Â Beet and Goat Cheese salad, Olive Tapenade Flatbread, Chicken Salad Sandwich, Grilled Salmon Sandwich, Apple Pie Bread Pudding and Italian Lemon Crumb Cake.
Beet and Goat Cheese Salad : Â This was delicious. Â It came with 4 rather large slices of 2 different kinds of roasted beets with oblong pearls of goat cheese and a spring mix salad topped with walnuts. Â The salad was perfectly dressed in a chive vinaigrette and since this is a classic combination, it was delicious. Â Aside from wanting more goat cheese because the pearls didn't seem to be enough, I was quite happy
Olive Tapenade Flatbread:  This flatbread was pretty good.  The chicken was not dry (yay!), the pesto crème was a nice touch, but I was missing olives... I wanted more than what was presented on the flatbread.
Chicken salad sandwich: I didn't have this one, but my friend did. Â She said it was better than the typical chicken salad sandwich and had a nice touch with the grapes (def a America's Test Kitchens touch. Very nice) Â
Grilled Salmon Sandwich: Â I would have to like to see some caramelization (browning)/grill marks on the salmon because we all know that adds to flavor and it would have looked better than a pale peach slab of fish that could have looked like it came from a can (not saying it did). Â I generally hate raw onion in anything because it overpowers everything, but the caper, onion cream cheese spread was perfect touch of creamy richness with the briney/acidic flavor from the capers. Â The buerre blanc (white wine-butter) sauce was the perfect touch... what goes better with fish than lemon?? Â The few sprigs of dill rounded out everything. Â I really enjoyed this sandwich... but they really, really need to hear me on having caramelization on the fish.
Wine:
The list is extensive (think 3 pages of MS excel spreadsheet) with details on year, location, winery, type, prices for bottle, glass and tasting (3 oz). Â We had 3, a Rose Champagne, Rose wine and a Piont. Â All were great. Â I liked seeing the local wineries represented on the list... I love restaurants that source locally.
Dessert:
Apple Pie bread pudding: Â this was delicious with all the flavors you would expect from the title - delicious custardy goodness with the cinnamon apples, Â but the texture was not perfect; you needed a knife. Â In my perfect world, a bread budding should have 2 textures (3 if you add turbindao sugar on top)'
1, gooey, lusciousness from bread being absorbed into the custard
2. Crispy edges from where the bread pudding made contact with the pan and caramelized
Italian Lemon Cream Coffee Cake - loved this desert, but i can get the same exact thing from Olive Garden - they call it, the Italian Lemon Cream Cake.. try and tell me that i am wrong on drawing the simliaries.
One of my favorite things about my home state of Maryland is the fact that you can find incredible, inviting, unique, quirky restaurants like this in small, quiet towns like Havre de Grace. Â We sat out back on the terrace on a summer night and enjoyed a big meal with incredible wines (they have an awesome list and a co-located wine shop that you can grab bottles from). Â You can get 3 oz pours (which I totally recommend) and sample a ton of different wines for reasonable prices, and they are served in their own little carafes.
The cheese and meat platter was the best, featuring local cheeses, and nothing is outrageously expensive. Â My biggest complaint would be that we found this place by looking for an "Italian" restuarant, which it definitely isn't. Â I would describe the food as straight-up American, maybe with some European influences, but pretty American. Â The food definitely wasn't disappointing though. Â
Great atmosphere, our server was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, polite and quick. Â If you're ever in Havre de Grace, you owe it to yourself to eat here, it's the best restaurant in the area.
Great place! It's a tapas-style wine bar. 75 different types of wine, separated by white/red and body.
--Food: I had the seared tuna. It comes on a bed of rice pilaf and comes with a wasabi sauce and lemon. My date ate all the rice so I have to assume it was good. The wasabi sauce was good but I could've used some type of soy sauce as well.
Cheese and Meat Platter. The capicola ham paired with the smoked gouda was amaaaazing! The only issue was, the cheese portion was pretty skimp. Tasty....but skimp. The platters come with a balsamic, red pepper, olive oil sauce that didn't really strike my fancy but it's there if it's your thing.
Rustic Flatbreads. These are their specialties. I had one with an olive tampenade, provolone cheese, red peppers, tuscan grilled chicken, and a pesto sauce. It was pretty good! Ingredients were great but as always....I need more cheese.
--Wine: Got nothing bad to say. Our sommelier, Kirk, Â has been in the business for 30yrs (maybe 20, i forget) and picks the wines himself.
--Location: Wonderful location. Ambience is perfect.
Great ambience. Soothing decor. Tried them for the first time while visiting HdG. Service for their wine selection was very helpful. We sampled several 3oz wines and finished by splitting a dessert. I woudn't take my younger children but for a peaceful, adult escape it's a definite visit.

Review Source:I stopped in on Friday night and got a table for one with no problem. Â The wine list was extensive and not being a wine expert, the waiter was good enough to recommend a great wine for a decent price. Â The ambiance was nice, casual but quiet and comfortable. Â The staff was pleasant, but it was clear there was a group of regulars and a group of everyone else.
However, food menu was a little weak - While EVERYTHING was tasty, the menu selection was limited. Â If you are looking for anything more than larger appetizers, you are out of luck. Â I was really hoping for a steak, and I was out of luck. Â I had a Caesar salad with a side of shrimp which was very good, and I got a plate of mozzarella and tomatoes and basil. Â Overall the tomatoes were tasty, but the oil & balsamic was rather tasteless, based on a very low volume in contrast to the tomatoes and mozzarella itself.
Overall, a great experience, but don't go looking for a real meal
This is my favorite resturant in Havre De Grace. They have a huge wine list. The wines can be purchased in 3oz pours to share with a couple of people, so you can taste a number of different wines to find the one you like. The food menu is small but everything is tasty. Cheese plates are exceptional !! Â Wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle, and bottles of wine can also be purchased and brought home. Prices are reasonable and service is good. If you go on Fri or Sat for dinner make reservations.
Review Source:This place is awesome, for a lot of reasons. Â I went here on a date because it's halfway between Philly and Washington. Â +1 for location (at least in this specific case). Â The atmosphere is great. Â You can either sit in the retail side on couches with a fireplace, at the bar, or at a table. Â The service was excellent, as our service was friendly and quite knowledgeable about the extensive wine list. Â The wine list itself was impressive, with hundreds of choices available in 3 or 6 oz tastings, or by the bottle. Â The food was great, and I highly recommend the flatbreads. Â Lastly, the price is must better than I expected. Â The Vineyard is a high quality spot, with many choices and great tastes in food and drink, and won't break the budget.
