I used to work here, in fact, it was my first job. It was a blast working there and the high employee morale showed its self in quality of the food, although the menu was small. But then again, this was back in 2001, when TK99 would do live shows from the outside deck. Since then it has changed hands a few times and most of the wait staff/ bartenders/ bar backs (me) left. Although, I don't like the price and portion change of the wings, they're still very, VERY, good. I would say, go with a friend and during the summer, (winter time is very boring, just a normal bar and grill) and order 40 of those bad boys and munch away. that's the only way to get your money's worth. Last I knew, they had all the regular beer, nothing special. I'm very partial to Rolling Rock, when it comes to cheep beer, and they had them in the short neck bottles, which is something you don't see much of any more.
Review Source:Brief summary: looking for a local bar? they have it. looking for a seated serve american restaurant? they have it. looking for a great view of the bridge and water? they have the best.
7:30pm reservation on a Thursday evening.
First visit to the restaurant, was visiting for dinner and cigars with a group of friends.
Don't be deterred by the name, the location is divided into what I would consider three main areas the tavern/local bar with dinning room, the outside deck: seated serve, and a second bar all the way on the end half covered and half open air. The far bar seems to collect some smokers which is acceptable because it is far enough away not to bother anyone in the seated section. Â
The place a tiki feel to it, however the the menu is a bit more complicated. Drink menu is very simple, and the dinner menu starts with a bunch of seafood/ American style cuisine. They had a whole page of handwritten dinner specials which included 2-4-1 steamed clams, and a crab-stuffed shrimp options.
I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, mediocre at best but honestly everything else I tried has fantastic, clams were cooked perfectly, I tried the escargot which was on point, and the fries were fresh and delicious. I think I was the only person who didn't order fish, or mussels and all of looked amazing, generous portions, and the guys loved it.
We had Mallory as our server, she was kind, knowledgable and available anytime we needed her; thank you very much.
Music played till 9:00pm, and we were kindly booted out the door at close.
My biggest hang up was the Mosquitos and a little bug spray handled that perfectly.
A great view, too bad the food sucks. I was excited to see a new salad on the menu as I try to eat healthy. The menu said it was a salad with fruit and roasted turkey. I assumed the roasted turkey would be restaurant quality, not cheap rolled up cold cuts that came on top of a salad with a few chunks of fruit and lousy tasting dressing. I def had a moment where I felt like crying when I saw it, mostly from low blood sugar, but also due to disappointment. If beer and wings is your thing, but if you're into quality food, it's a must skip!
Review Source:Seating was difficult at best on a Monday night as we were left standing in the middle of the deck waiting for the hostess to ask if we could sit in the sun as there are designated tables for larger parties (1 more chair). Monday in Brewerton at 68 degrees and 6:30pm had drawn a crowd of about 20. Finally as we turned to leave, our waitress seated us at the requested table. Appetizer spicy shrimp arrived quickly and was tasty but luke warm. Salad was good with dressing served in a side container. Broiled haddock and salt potatoes were cooked perfectly. The fried haddock was salty but tender. Baked beans were peppery, but otherwise like canned. The fries were OK but frozen fried. One soda one draft brew bill $42. Not what one would expect for the price but view of water is OK. Waitress Angela good. Manager tried to blame seating delay on a new hostess and trying to understand her. Better to address and understand the customer then explain process to the newbie. Felt bad for her. Not on my return list.
Review Source:When we are in the area we usually make a stop here. Â We like sitting inside but watching the boat traffic on the river. Â There is nothing stellar about the menu or the food, but we think the wings are a pretty safe bet. Â They are a good, meaty size and tasty. Â Even the mild ones have a little tang to them. Â The beer is cold and the drinks are reasonable. Â It seems like it's pretty much a local spot, and the outdoor deck is usually crowded. Â It's a good place for a quick bite, but certainly not gourmet!
Review Source:We arrived for a party of 10 on patio. The waitress only showed up to offer drinks to the first six who arrived. She remained absent for nearly 1 HOUR after we arrived, not stopping back to offer drinks or appetizers. Upon taking our orders, many items listed on menu were unavailable which we weren't informed of until our attempt to order. The waitress then disappeared for quite a long time, several members of our party went to the bar to get themselves second and third drinks. Our food arrived 1 1/2 hours later (2 1/2 hours after we arrived), where one dish was wrong, and several plates had side substitutions (out of cole slaw, we gave some of you tuna salad instead...!) as decided by the kitchen. At least the food was good (albeit heavily skewed toward meat and fried fish -- vegetarians, this is not the place for you) and the waterfront atmosphere was nice, but we would not return due to poor, slow service.
Review Source:If you love a menu full of fried food and like to drink garbage beer then don't pay attention to my poor ratings and head on over.
The deck is very nice and they often have live entertainment, so if your motive is to hangout, put down some coors lights, eat some clam strips and listen to some music with the water in the background, then I certainly wouldn't steer you away from it.
If your also looking to have some really good eats thrown into the equation.... Steer clear.
This use to be the best bar in Syracuse. With a huge outdoor patio and access by boat or car the place was packed every weekend. After Donnie sold the place a few years back it's never been the same. The new owner must not me into making money. They close early every night, and not just when its slow when there are still a lot of people there. I've been there on a Friday night with 100 or so people on the deck and they call last call before midnight. They also found a way to screw up the best wings around. Now that Pauline retired and you cant even count on Baker being there every night I don't even see the point of going. My parents could be found there every Wednesday for 20 years now if they're there once a month its shocking. They really screwed up a great thing here. It just makes me upset every time I step foot back in the once great bar.
