My sister got the smart genes and the rest of us got the drinking genes.
So, for this reason, she doesn't drink.
BUT ... she got wasted here.
On cheapy 1800 tequila shots.
And fireball shots.
And kamikaze shots.
And ... Got kicked out of the "club".
For that reason alone, 5 stars.
P.S.
This place is part pool hall, sushi resto and "club". Their sushi is decent but pricey. So go for happy hour (10pm onwards) for 50% off.
I love the Wave. Â Great food, endless menu, awesome atmosphere and they treat the employees and customers like family. Â Downtown Spokane has many good places to eat or drink but rarely would I eat anywhere else. Â The menu has something for everyone, even non-sushi eaters. Â Check it out if you have a chance.
Review Source:This is a fun place to meet your friends! My grad school cohort and I would always meet for happy hour for a few drinks before our night class at the Eastern Washington U extension center. It IS more like a party atmosphere and you probably are coming more for the scene than the food (one of my sushi-averse friends hilariously commented that the sushi he ended up trying "tastes like McDonalds!" meaning the Big Mac sauce). Not that this is really a bad thing, but it isn't for purists. It is for those who like a lot of sauce and decoration on their food, fish second.
Overall it is a fun time and probably a great place to go on a date, as long as your date isn't a sushi snob! :) Great place to start off your evening romp.
My sister said she heard of this being a good sushi place. Â We went for lunch. Â The place was pretty slow. Â Service was average. Â I ordered some nigiri and a thai wrap for lunch. Â My sister ordered two sushi rolls. Â One was the crunch roll. Â Now I have eaten a lot of sushi, both good and not so good, so I considerable myself a decent judge of quality. Â The rolls were horrible. Â Imitation crab vs real crab, there was something unrecognizable and mushy in the center of the Crunch roll, and the fish quality was only so so. Â My wrap was quite good, and reasonable priced. Â I would maybe go back for some of their other cooked food as they had an extensive menu, but would not take my chance with that sushi again!
Review Source:The smoked salmon roll is the bomb!!! Have it with a lot of teriyaki sauce, the hot green mustard and ginger peels. 2 shots of Jack Daniels straight up on the side. Doesnt get much better. Savor the meal and let the slices individually soak in the dish of sauce you make yourself to your taste. No one I have taken there has been disappointed.
Review Source:Come during happy hour and sushi is about 40-50% off full price and draft beers for $3. The rolls are decent but don't expect to get quality fish. I wasn't expecting melt-in-your-mouth-amazing, but some of the pieces i had were kinda chewy... maybe stick with the baked rolls or apps?
The place is very spacious and since its a sports bar, its dimly lit with large flat screens all around. (they had wrestling on when we were trying to enjoy our meal...)
Overall its okay. Wouldn't come though if they didn't have happy hour pricing; the quality just isn't worth the full price.
My new happy hour spot!
Love their princess liaj roll (light and crispy) and the Victoria secret roll (fish was fresh!)
The mexi Cali roll was filled with cream cheese and that overpowered the rest of the ingredients.
The firecracker was not spicy at all, which would have been fine with me except that it lacked any real flavor. It tasted really bland.
The sautéed shrooms were a deal for $2.50! The sauce they come in is very creamy but delicious. Definitely a favorite.
Also ordered a sake-tini (the first one on the list which has piña colada, rum and something sake). It tasted like pineapple juice. Not sure if there was much alcohol but then again it is sake.
This place is really loud though and people are singing the karaoke. Sometimes you get people who shouldn't be handed a mic at all and it makes your ears hurt. However it is a pretty cool place since you can eat, dance, sing to your heart's content. I'll definitely be back.
OK so heres the deal. The team here is friendly. My last visits here were in May and July and I have to say the service has improved. There seams to be a manager or front of house manager who is awesome and engaging. That however is sadly where the good stops. I Have always enjoyed the sushi here but tonight it was not good tasted a little off. If this isn't enough the restaurant decor is shabby and some things just need to be put in the trash. It has clearly the club feel in daylight. However I may be able to handle tatty but overlook cleanliness No way. I ordered food only cause my hubby really wanted to eat here but it was just dirty. From carpet ( stained with gum all over it gross) to round the ledges of floors to restroom and shelves shabby dirty dusty. This doesn't always equate poor kitchen hygeine BUT to me it doesn't bode well. Additionally please update a little. Just looks soooooo rough. . Does the owner ever visit the joint. I hate writing reviews like this. I understand the business impact but Wave owners please show it some love...
Review Source:I come here on weekends at Happy Hour (10pm-midnight) while I'm still figuring out what I'm doing for the rest of the night. Sushi,Drinks&Music creates a good vibe.
California rolls are alright. Ginger House Salad is good. Chicken Katsu is Yummy. Tempura Vegetables are very greasy but taste good when dipped in sauces (they have a dressings list to choose from).
Overall don't come here expecting to be wow-ed by Sushi. Â The club and drink factor is their priority. (Lust Martini is sooo good!) I just moved here from Southern California so everything in Spokane seems bland.
The staff is very nice and the DJ picked up my drinks my first time there. So if you're a cute girl, smile at the dj and sit behind his booth. Haha
Was craving sushi and found this place was close by. Â The name can be confusing. Â One friend was saying we've been to this place called Raw. Â And another one was saying yeah you should go to the Wave. Â And lo and behold they're the same frickin' place. Â They had a guy there that night playing live acoustic music which was kinda cool. Â Played a lot of covers.
Looking over the drink menu: I did not care for the fruity cocktails with silly names. Â Liked the beer selection. Â Had an Oaked Arrogant Bastard. Â That made me happy. Â
As far as food, you get the standard rolls and sushi/asian fare and some interesting offerings you don't traditionally see in a sushi joint. Â I ordered some Spam Musubi for a trip back to my childhood days. Â Yep! Â Delicious!
Overall, I can see that this place can attract a variety of people at a variety of times. Â I have been here for lunch. Â Could come here for dinner. Â Or could come here for bar time and drinks. Â And I guess on certain nights they play Karaoke?
I like this WAY better than when it was Raw. Less cliche, trendy, and superficial! We went there on a Sat night to eat and they sat us in a quiet place, with great service, and food was good! I would definitely give this place a try! I hate the cheesy 18 year old bar/club side, but we had a good time on the other side as adults!
Review Source:I've worked at a number of restaurants here in Spokane and I am always out and about in downtown Spokane. No matter where I go however I am always coming back to The Wave. Here I can find awesome karaoke, delightful sushi, a fun restaurant atmosphere in the evening and a pumping club at night. The staff here is top notch and the rare time I've had to ask for something different they've more then made up for it. Here's to The Wave, a tidal wave of fun in a otherwise dreary ocean.
Review Source:This place is set up more as a nightclub/bar so they don't really focus on the food and it shows. Their sushi and other menu items are pretty pathetic (probably the worst in Spokane) but it seems to have a hopping crowd. Go here to party and for pick-ups but skip it for the food unless you get totally drunk and don't care what crap you eat.
1 Star for the food
4 Stars for the party atmosphere
CLEANLINESS: They keep the place very dim so i cant say.
HOTTIES: Lots of hotties here! Definitely come here for the sushi and then stick around for the ladies.
AMENITIES: Yeagermeister beanies!, karaoke, hot females.
MEAL: Sushi roll, hot saki, sapporo, and some shots from my not so good friend, while i was blacked out drunk.
PRICE: My bill at the end of the night was 50 bucks plus tip brought it up to 60.
SERVICE: From what i remember the service was fine. The only thing that sucked was waiting for a seat. When i walked in they were setting up for karaoke and some tables werent ready yet.
DECOR: One side of the place looks like a nice sushi joint, and the other side looks like your average club/bar, black tables dim lighting establishment.
DRESS CODE: Guys be safe and wear a colar, im pretty sure after a certain hour you need one, but even if you dont im sure the ladies wouldnt mind you dressed up alittle.
The Wave (formerly Raw, after one of the owners dropped out) I've been coming here for quite a while now. Â Each time is consistently good. Â They always do a great job with the food and service. Â On their re-worked menu, there is plenty of choices to cover on what kind of "Asian food" you're craving for ( a little birdie told me there is more on the way...some good stuff). Â They have a large selection or sushi or sashimi on the menu. They also have a lot of specialty cocktails, which I'm happy they did not take away from. My favorite drink is the "I'm Rick James, *****" Â It always is the best compliment to my night with an order or Spam musubi (pronounced:moo-sue-bee). Â This is one of the few places that in town that can make it right and taste good. Â Think of Spam wrapped in the black sushi wrapper with rice. Â This place is also good for Sake bombs. They have 4 or 5 different kinds of Sake, warm or room temp (better served warm...trust me on this) Â
On the weekends, there is a live DJ spinning the jams in the main portion of the restaurant. There is an overflow area, if you just want to belly up to the sushi bar, Â a little more intimate and narrow than the main restaurant. A chill lounge on the other side of that, if you dont feel like dancing. There are also private rooms. Â There is a larger private room for larger groups (holds about 25-30 people with a pool table), but you'll probably have to talk to the owner or manager on duty to book. Â
Overall, I'm excited about the new changes at The Wave. I always look forward spending some time either as a jump off point for the night or just keeping the night going.
This review is for only the SUSHI aspect of The Wave... formally RAW. We don't know , or understand, the new menu here because it feels like they are trying to please every cuisine of the world. Anyways, the sushi here is one of the best in town compared to say Ginger, or the worst in town Sushimaru. They aren't trying to reinvent the wheel here, but it does seem like they care more about the quality of their product compared to the other two mentioned. If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg; go here for happy hour specials. Also, if you don't know what to eat their huge menu might fill that gap too.
Review Source:This was my first experience with sushi after moving to Spokane from So Cal. The Food off of the "Island" section of their menu was pretty tasty. I got the Spam musubi and enjoyed it quite a bit. We also split the sweet potato tots for an appetizer which were very good. They came with a super tasty spicy mayo.
Enough with the appetizers! I came here for sushi! I went pretty simple with my rolls. Got a couple of hand rolls and a spider roll. The hand rolls were very bland. All of the ingredients tasted watered down. The crab in my spider roll was just old. It tasted fishy and had a squishy texture. Definitely not impressed.
I may return here for appetizers and a beer, but I wont ever get sushi here again.
Went here recently since its became 'the wave'. Not a fan. I love walking into a place that's half empty and asked if we have reservations and after saying 'no, do we need them?' his reply 'it's preferred' well, the rest of Spokane didn't get the memo either. We were seated in the back where there were several tables available, strange! We were seated by the bar and got water quickly but didn't see anyone forever. So long we got up and left. Their menu wasn't appetizing, I'm not thrilled about ordering sushi from a place that has spaghetti and meatballs. Weird! I'll stick to sushi Yama for my sushi.
Review Source:I visited The Wave (formerly known as Raw, I believe) on a trip to Spokane.
I'm not really a huge sushi fan, but I had a great time. The sushi was fresh and tasty, the drinks were strong, and I really enjoyed the entire atmosphere of the restaurant. The service was fantastic, too. Our server was very outgoing and really made the experience positive for us. She got a big tip from us at the end of the night.
While we were finishing up our meal, a DJ set up and started playing some awesome music, so that just added to the entire outing.
I'd go back in a heartbeat. Great food, service, music, and booze - what more could you ask for?
