Attention Attention!!! Beware of the gossip speaking Queen (Kristin)behind the bar as she smiles to say thank you for your tip in the same breath she will be talking s*%t about you behind your back especially when you are there with a friend. Little does she know that the woman I was with was just a friend that tells me everything and so glad she does. I can't say anything bad about the drinks, service or food just certain person that works there. That's all!!!!
Review Source:I can vividly remember eating twice at Wellington pub recently. Once was after a very long night, and I was starving and the kitchen was closed, but the bartender was nice enough to give me chips and ketchup (don't judge me, I'm a simplistic person).
The next time was last week. My boyfriend and I we're on our way to the North Park theatre and due to the terrible weather, and living around the corner decided to hit up Wellington Pub for a quick bite. As we browsed the menu, we both ordered something that we normally wouldn't and also that horrified me as a child, The Meatloaf Special".... what happened to me to think that meatloaf actually would be appetizing?
This may have been the best decision I've made, in a long time. The meatloaf was so moist (hate that word, but needs to be used), flavorful and came accompanied by heaven sent gravy. The meatloaf was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, which we're just as good.
Although I've never had bad food at Wellington Pub, I wasn't expecting to be blown away by how good it as.
Also the service was awesome. Will definitely be coming here more, and going out of my veggie, carb and seafood comfort zone.
I grew up in Buffalo, and The Wellington Pub was always our go-to restaurant for wings and Friday fish fries.
Now that I live out-of-town, I love this place even more. Everytime I am home, this is the spot I want to go first. It's a neighborhoodie place, where you're bound to bump into someone you know - but even if you don't, it feels like home.
Best wings, Best fish fry; and enough TVs that your game can always be on!
This is a classic Buffalo bar/restaurant/pub. If you're in the area and you're looking for the quintessential Buffalo food staples (beef on weck, wings, etc.), this is a great place to go.
The bar at night tends to have local yuppies, but try to grab an outside table if you can. It's a very "local" atmosphere but a decent place.
They lose a whole Star because the table service is really lagging. Great late-night beer prices though.
First off I just want to say I love this place because of Monday nights and their wing/Molson specials.  However this evening I experienced the most incredible display of impertinent and disrespectful service from one of the dining room servers.  OK, Monday's are packed.  We were meeting some friends as usual but this time, because of the large crowd inside, we moved to the patio.  We were given a hard time, persistently, mind you, by this individual for simply standing near our friends table to chat.  After asking her about using a nearby table, she barked back claiming there was a "WAITING LIST" for seating at these patio tables, and the ones next door at Bob & John's were strictly for their customers.  She concluded her snooty rant by insisting that we all move to a large table inside.  Mind you none were available.  About 10-15 minutes later, after having moved outside the patio to the sidewalk, two patrons of the bar simply sat at a table next door, and there was no sign of anyone wanting to dine out on the patio.  When the server came back out, she acted like no one was sitting next door.  Why were we given such a hard time, and no one else was?  No one of us acted rude or unruly in return, or were to even begin with.  I'm not expecting 5-star service at a dirty pub, but give me a break, have some decency towards YOUR customers.  This  one left a bad taste in my mouth.
Review Source:Craving fries at 11:00 PM and the only place open to serve them during the Italian festival Weekend. Man was I happy, I am Miss. Fries when I crave it no matter what time of day I have to get it. This being my first time coming here, I have to say it was really a nice chill place. The people were really friendly, even though I didn't get any drinks at the bar I still sat there to eat my fries.
The fries were really good, not over fried or oily. It was just right, and I am the type to only eat it with ketchup. It definitely quenched my craving. Next time I plan on coming to drink.
Went in earlier today..between lunch/dinner. Â The boyfriend and I were starved and were happy to find the place empty other than one person at the bar. Â I ordered the portabello wrap with garlic aioli and the boyfriend had the fish fry. Â We each had the home made potato salad as our side. Â Our order came out quick...My wrap...good sized - tasted 'ok' Â plenty of portabello/red pepper - however the feta cheese was overpowering and took over the entire wrap. Â I didn't see or taste and of the aioli so I asked for some on the side...and when I got that I tasted it...nothing! Â No taste other than mayo and what looked like black specs in it which was maybe the garlic spice? Â Bummer as the 'sauce' can make or break a sandwich/wrap. I made a bit of a mess scraping out the feta lol. Â A diff cheese would have been better...mozz or provolone. The potato salad was good. Â I've always enjoyed the fish fry...boyfriend did enjoy it...but not the coleslaw.
All in all...just ok...guess I'll stick to the fish fry in future.
YAY!
enjoyed the steak sandwich here with my man again this past friday night, and was thrilled to see that the quality of this sandwich is CONSISTENT. Â in fact, i think it may have even been yummier this time! (*blissin*)
love this local haunt, and will definitely be back for this sandwich, and the friendly, accommodating service!
KUDOS to you Wellington Pub!
I was very hungry but I had no idea where I wanted to go. I immediately thought 'fish fry!' then remembered Jody G's recent review of this pub!
It's practically around the corner from my house so my fiance and I made out way down here. It's a little crowded and confusing when you walk in but we were seated shortly in the back of the restaurant. They give you some rolls to start out with which is awesome because I was extra hungry at this point.
The menu is basically standard pub fare with lots of different sandwiches. (Next time I come I'm getting the fried chicken sandwich on a sage biscuit... yeah!) But I came with my eye on the prize- a fish fry. My fiance ordered the BBQ-blue burger, which had BBQ sauce, blue cheese, bacon and a beef burger.
Service was a tad slow here which was more excruciating than normal because I was so hungry. When we got our food we were very happy. My fish fry was huge and it appeared that they breaded their own fish, skin on and not a perfect batter job. The fish was great, the fries were super greasy and the coleslaw was just okay. My fiance enjoyed his burger.
It's a busy restaurant and a little dirty, but the food is good and the beer is pretty cheap so I'll definitely be back!
Wow! That was the BEST tuna fish sandwich I've ever had! Â And, I eat LOTS and LOTS of tuna fish sandwiches. Â It was part of a soup and half sandwich lunch I had at the Wellington Pub this past Sunday.
The restaurant itself is cozy and warm and pub-like (kind of dark and old fashioned looking), but has a great menu of sandwiches and salads, and quite a few interesting entrees as well as the usual chicken wings, beef on wecks, and fish fries. Â The service is friendly and efficient.
But, the tuna salad is simply amazing! Â The PERFECT ratio of (nice, white) tuna, celery (yay!) and mayo. Â I had mine on marble rye toast with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Â Here I quibble a bit because it was chopped onion rather than the slice that I would have preferred. Â And that's only because the little pieces kept falling out of my sandwich.
The soup of the day was beef vegetable and it was good. Â Homemade with lots of beef, potatoes, onion, celery, and carrots. Â Just perfect on a cool and rainy day.
Is there anyone who doesn't love The Wellington? Check out this cozy neighborhood pub any Friday evening and you will find families and friends happily chowing down on the most succulent fish fry in town. The crispy, beer-battered exterior is a perfect foil for the moist, tender interior - my mouth is watering just thinking about it! I get the regular-sized fish fry and there's usually enough left to make a delicious fish sandwich with the leftovers the next day. Make sure to request the (complimentary) soda bread if they forget to give it to you. Oh, and the wings aren't bad, either. Head over to Sterling Place for another drink afterward and your night will be complete!
Review Source:Had dinner there last night with some friends. Â We got a table right away (around 7pm) but the people who arrived after us had to wait.
We started with wings which were really good... crispy and tasty. Â I ordered a dinner salad which was also surprisingly good for pub fare. Â Romaine instead of Iceburg... I had the Honey Sesame Vinaigrette which was tasty. Â They offer a soda bread with cranberries and rye seeds at the table when you sit which was very different, but good. Â We all ordered Fish Fry... they have a "Junior" size, which was really nice. Â Still big but not falling off the plate. Â The french fries weren't fresh cut but they were good... the fish fry was terrific. Â Two in our party had the Buttermilk and Bacon Potato Salad... YUMMY! Â
It was a pleasant experience... Â I will definitely return.
The Wellington Pub was the perfect setting this afternoon for a small reunion of high school friends. Â They made us feel comfortable with a nice table near the window.. Â The waiter was very courteous and let us take time to view the menu. Â Many choices for lunch and my husband and I choose the Pub Club and it was delicious. Â Our friends from out of town enjoyed salad and a steak sandwich. Â Their salad portion is huge and they ended up taking a box home. Â Also they have vegetarian items for those watching fat and calories. Â Great prices and nice atmosphere for any lunch or dinner.
Review Source:Let me preface this by saying that I originally wanted to go to Sterling Place, but they were closed on Sunday. Â In fact most places on Hertel are closed on Sunday and that needs to change.
Anyways I basically was in the mood for some pub grub, and I heard decent things about The Wellington. Â I originally ordered a Black and Blue burger, but when I found out it came with blue cheese sauce and not crumbled blue cheese I changed my order. Â Instead I got a spicy burger. Â The exact name escapes me but it had a bunch of hot stuff on it. Â The burger was overdone, and had a generic "cajun" taste that most run of the mill places have. Â I ordered onion rings, which were your typical Sysco frozen rings. Â My wife ordered a burger with fries and experienced the same unoriginal blandness I did. Â Also this place is one of those places that give you chips, so you have to order fries or rings, it will cost you extra. Â Honestly I have no problem with this if you make your own homemade sides, but if you're charging me more for generic frozen apps, then it looks a little desperate. Â The beer selection was pretty decent, and they had a mix of a few micro brews. Â The service although friendly, was very slow and inattentive, and there were very few people in the establishment. Â Sitting outside was a bonus, but this place is a dive bar, so yuppies be warned.
I'm assuming (and I could be wrong) that the same people who own the Wellington own La Hacienda. Â That being said, it really doesn't surprise me that they share the same below average food and service. Â
But seriously Hertel, open up your business on Sundays!
On Friday nights the place smells inescapably of fish fry. Everyone seems to order it, but it's quite mediocre. Â The burgers are passable, but other than that I might not venture too far into the menu if you're looking for something good.
But perhaps I'm being too critical. It is a pub, and the food is what you would expect on the menu at a pub. The bar is average, and the crowd skews a little bit to the older crowd.
But Wellington is a veteran of the Hertel scene, it's been a staple on the street for a long time, way before the Hertel renaissance in the last 5 or so years, so although I'm not a fan- they must be doing something right.
