Friday Night:
Bar: A lot of it, really cool.
Music/DJ: Average, very random, non-smooth transition of music genre. knocks your mood off!
Atmosphere/People: many not so friendly. cmon' girls its latin dance
I love latin dance a lot -salsa, bachata, merengue, etc, came here around 11pm, asked three different girls if they wanted to dance they said no or that where were not ready to dance yet - at 11pm?. it was midnight already and barely anyone was dancing. MANY people were just sitting around at the bar, mostly girls. said to myself...  "is this a bar with latin music or a dance club?". Nothing like the real salsa or latin dance clubs I have ever seen. Maybe speaking because I live in LA (where the scene is different) and just visiting Tampa. At about 1am or so, everyone stormed the dance floor, either standing walking around, or dancing randomly to the random music. number of guys clearly outweighed girls - like 3:1. some girls from what i saw might be looking for hookup though and not real a real dance. Not  a fun night; and wouldn't be back. However, different folks, different likes. you might like it way better!!
Oh Chris, one of the bartenders is exceptionally nice. He left the bar to show me the upstairs area and we chatted a bit. cool dude - look for him. :)
Joined my wife and her coworkers for Friday happy hour not knowing what to expect. $12, What a "great deal" if you are looking to explore the many adult beverages that will make you enter with anticipation and leave totally satisfied. The food was pretty good and the bartender had plenty of personality to keep the party going while keeping your cup filled all night long. Had the sample platter( $14. Wings, Sweet Potato fries, Mozzarella sticks, and Chicken strips) which had good variety and was tasty as well. For a good time at a great price, give Whiskey Park North a try, you won't be disappointed...
Review Source:I came here tonight for their Friday Night Latin night with local Latin radio station 92.5 FM. We made reservations for my Step-Dad's birthday and were surprised to find that there was no cover charge for the people in our party. Wow. They really do treat you like V.I.P on your birthday. They reserved  a table for us near the entrance and provided a full-service attendant to us during our stay. When my Mom made the reservations, they even asked her what color balloons she wanted at the table.
The drinks were made well and I had a Rum Runner that packed a punch, but still tasted great. The shots were a good size as well. My family can drink quite a lot, and the attendant was very helpful in bringing us our drinks.
I was hungry when we arrived and decided to have their chicken tenders and fries ($5). They came out right off the pan in maybe 10 minutes. Hot but freshly heated. The french fries were better than I was expecting, and the chicken tenders were so-so, appetizing enough to fill me. I had some chips and salsa later, but they weren't really worth any praise. Not bad food for a night club, but my Mom mentioned they used to have alcapurrias on the menu and it seems most of the Latin food menu has been removed, probably to reduce costs.
The DJ was on his A-game, playing lots of great mixes and there were people on the dance floor from the moment we arrived til the moment we left. The bar was busy, but not in a way where you feel too claustrophobic. The general atmosphere seemed more relaxed than other clubs I visit in Tampa. The salsa dancers were showing off their skills too.
Perhaps the only thing I didn't like was that smoking was allowed inside and there were several ashtrays around the tables, inviting people to smoke all around you.
The crowd was mostly mid-20s and 30s, you usually don't find younger people enjoying salsa music the way the older generation does. Our bill at the end of the night after many drinks and food was still only around $80. Not bad at all. They have a happy hour from 5-8 I believe with an all-you-can-drink special that I'm sure many people enjoy. My parents love this place and I'm sure my family will be making many trips back in the future.
Interesting place to say the least, the cabin/treehouse vibe made the club very unique. Â I went on a Saturday with friends and enjoyed myself. Â The downstairs was packed and smokey, but VIP was calmer and more easy to move around. Â I heard the club is more packed and that since it was the holidays it was an off night. Â Good HipHop music, beautiful women, but if your not a fan of being bumped into or like second hand smoking stay away.
Review Source:What a great place for Latin dancing in Tampa.
I came over from St. Petersburg expecting something good.
Although the location was a little surprising (a strip mall), the ambiance inside was welcoming, warm, and lodge like.
Wednesday night Latin night was what drew me in. Great dancers can lead you into some pretty fancy moves.
One turn off about the bar is the indoor smoking-- I was surprised when guys in white leather boots stomped out their cigarettes on the dance floor. But the wait staff was there to quickly mop up spills and butts.
Fun fun fun. The happy hour on Friday is sick. Best deal in Tampa. Prepare to be wasted because the bartenders don't play around with the pours.
And Remy is right when he said there are a lot of women. On all nights the place is packed with women, like 4 to every one 1 guy.
If ur looking for nicer bar/club with great people, good music, and a great staff hit this place up.
Now I am usually not one for clubs but this two story mega bar was just the spot to let our food settle and burn off a few calories before we finished up the night. Â Now I don't dance, but I will pull up my pants and lean back...
Debbie L. is right when she says that the bartenders pour strong!!! Â Mylong Island Ice Tea tasted more like it had made a few stops off in the Bronx and Brooklyn before it made it to my table but it hit the spot.
WARNING: Â Thursday nights is Ladies nights and they have some MALE ENCOUNTER show until 10:00 pm!!! Â Luckily for me we got their at 9:45 and after slipping the host a few dollars was escorted to a VIP table for the night. Â
I felt like I was the only guy in the club and with my friend at my side our table quickly filled with some of Tampa's most beautiful women. Â With Long Island Ice Teas going for $2.00 and $6.00 Â absolut flavor bombs I paid for a few rounds and felt like Tony Montana for the night.
Whiskey North has three bars and plays top 40's and with all these sexually charged women running around it was hard to stay focused. Â Our waitress was hot and very friendly and after a few drinks I didn't feel like the old man at the club. Â I hustled a few pool games and the next thing I knew it was time to go back to the hotel.
If I lived here and was ten years younger, I probably wouldn't have gone to law school!!! Â Good Times!!!
Two Tokyo Teas, a Cape Cod and a Jager Bomb later, I was out! Â Warning: Strong, strong pours at Whiskey North. Â If not with the aid of pictures, videos, and a sober friend, I wouldn't have remembered much of what happened the on one of the evenings that I came here.
A very attractive acquaintance of mine performs here every Thursday night as part of MALE ENCOUNTER under the guise of ~*Christian Desire*~. Â Yes, one of those cheesy male revue strip shows where the men dress up in various costumes and simulate sexual acts with bachelorettes and birthday girls on stage, making Thursdays at Whiskey North a hot spot for debaucherous bachelorette and birthday parties. Â
Normally, one would never find classy little me in such a tacky environment for such a cheesy sounding show (I swear!), but I went to show my love... and goddamn, it was good. Â Soooo good. Â Goddamn, I say! Â I think I went on stage three or four times that night... Â More than any other girl that night *blushy face* Â Oh, and ladies drink free after the show. Â Can't complain about that!
Whiskey North is a decent venue. Â Very spacious. Â Two levels with two bars on the inside and one on the outside for warm nights (which is just about every night in Tampa!). Â Pool tables and lots of seating aside from the bar. Â The bartenders and waiters are incredibly nice! Â The male ones even get into character on Thursday nights by going topless. Â MEOW!
-1 star for mandated valet parking even though the parking lot's RIGHT THERE, and for drinks being so pricey. Â $8 Red Bulls? Â Mmmm, yeah, I'll just have one.
Oh, and as a tip to the ladies, never wear a skirt or a dress to a male revue, and if you're gonna, wear something that you don't mind flashing because otherwise, you're gonna be flashing your va-jay-jay or granny panties to the world as you get flipped, twisted and helicoptered into ecstasy on stage ;)
"Everbody's wonderful, everybody's beautiful,
everybody's wonderful,
but you're delicious"
The little communities scattered all over the Tampa bay cityscape are quite amusing. Each one has it's own succinct personality, shape and look. Nestled on the edge of Tampa's north end is the quaint little area of Carrollwood. Part exile, part suburbia compound, this sleepy little place is one of those cherished nooks of urban America where yuppie spouses overdose on reality television, try desperately to attract the attention of the opposite by playing aloof, and maximize their 401k portfolios while managing their fantasy football leagues. Up until this point the entirety of my migration to Tampa has been spent exploring the crevices and trying to make sense of it all.
Looks like I missed some.
Strip malls and upscale bars don't exactly sound like the perfect roommates, but ironically here in the Carrollwood district they work and play extremely well together. Lo-key enough that you'll probably never in a million years run into your boss (or school teacher or pastor) but upscale enough that you cant even come through the doors wearing sunglasses on the top of your head. There's some hidden charm in a place this pretentious almost as if it's taunting you to compare it to a similar experience. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just feels like it especially when you first realize that the rear parking areas only security is a bunch of guys standing round looking bored. But don't let the rough exterior fool you this place is definitely in the big leagues, at least if you're from here it is.
The queue to enter was a lot longer than I initially expected filled with a bevy of attractive women and men alike. Unlike other upscale bar claims this one delivers, especially on the door restrictions. I watched 6 people of various shades and styles get turned away for dress code violations. Which by all rights they should have known better. Male sandals in a nightclub that's not located on a beach is totally unacceptable unless you're Sonny Bono. On the upside I've never seen friendlier door rejections in my life. It was probably just as well, because by the time I made it up for inspection the rafters of the place were practically bursting with people. Top 40 was the flavor of the sounds wafting through the cavernous bar, not something I particularly care for but the crowd seemed to love it, because every time a song came on a cheer arose from the dancery. My party met me at the first of 3 bars located around the place and I was hustled to a corner table to socialize with my work compatriots. I felt both in and away from the action at our little oasis in the midst of nightlife chaos. I wish I could say I saw more of the place other than  our personal nook, but honestly I cant. Aside from the occasional grind on the sizable dance floor the majority of the night was spent in the blissful purgatory of our corner booth.
And that was just fine, because between the music, the service and crowd I had seen enough. It was quite obvious that Carrollwood had arrived and brung me along for the fantastic voyage. I'll definitely update this over the next couple of planned retreats to this impressive nightspot.
