My drinks were watered down. I don't have actual proof of this but I know the way a Cap Cod tastes and the 2 that I ordered were simply glasses of cranberry juice over ice. I considered bringing this up to the bartender but really didn't want to be a rude American so I simply changed my drink to Jack & Ginger (which was NOT watered down) and I proceeded to have an awesome night. That was the only hiccup, after my drink situation was figured out I was free to thoroughly enjoy the helter-skelter music selection and and the overall funkiness of the joint.
The place has a dank, divey and gritty feel to it which I found intriguing! I have to pee every 10 minutes so I especially enjoyed the writing on the stall walls. There were even a few illustrations!
My boyfriend and I met some stellar folks., played some pool and had a genuinely  good time.
Wild Mushroom basically saved my marriage at one point. Â Me and my wife were not getting along the best... So, we decided to take a trip to a bed an breakfast in Niagara Falls and just "get away" for a weekend. Â Oh boy, did it ever work... and it is all thanks to the WIld Mushroom. Â Six years later, we are still married and we will never forget the WIld Mushroom. Â We will also never forget Geoff (or perhaps Jeff? Not sure how to spell it), our bartender for the entire weekend and who turned out to be the owner. Â This guy is fucking awesome. He made us feel right at home and showed us a great time. He treated us like regulars that had been coming there for ages. Â We appreciated his kindness so much we later sent him a thank you note and a photo we took of the three of us on that awesome weekend. Â We didn't head back there for about another year, but he remembered us and he still had the photo we sent. Â We want to go back there very badly and see Geoff again, but it's tough when you live in Austin TX. Â One day soon we will make the trip again, and pump our "Loonies" into the kick ass jukebox, eat some of the solidly made bar food, and enjoy the company of some of our friends from the Great White North. Â
Thank you Wild Mushroom. And thank you Geoff (or Jeff)!!!
Tip: Go During the Winter, it's fucking awesome.
I have great memories from 15 years ago of going here with my buddies, getting a few buckets of beer and chicken wings, and having a great night. Â The wings were still some of my favourites, right up there with the Anchor Bar. Â Speaking of memories, I remember one night that I was there with 2 friends, and it was right after Harold Howard had lost a match in one of the original UFC fights. Â One of my friends had a bit too much to drink and was shooting off his mouth about how he could beat Howard, and the bartender informed him that he could have his chance as the guy he was talking about was sitting at the bar. Â At that my friend's face turned white and he stopped talking for the rest of the night. Â I wish they had camera phones back then.
If only there was a cold Molson Ice in my fridge right now, but alas, there is not. Â Cheers.
