We had never been to Goldendale before and thought we'd try this place out, since it was busy. Busy equals good, right? Wrong! There was one bartender and one server and three cooks. The server, while nice enough, kept apologizing, stating she was new. The bartender was not friendly at all. And the three cooks were observed arguing over the food they were preparing and two of them didn't know what to do. After over an hour waiting for our food, not to mention the first two items my husband ordered they didn't have, we asked how much longer. The server said ours was next but another table, who arrived after us, was served, we walked out. This was the worst dining experience we have ever had and will not go back.
Review Source:I am very disappointed in this restaurant. Â We are here on a Saturday evening in July for dinner and are contemplating walking out. Â The service is terrible, forgetful, mopey wait staff. Â S-L-O-W service, we've been waiting at least 25 minutes since ordering and have yet to see our green side salad (usually served before the meal), nor either of our appetizer orders. Â Let me assure you, the restaurant was NOT busy when we came in. Â We have just watched 2 tables who came in after us served their salads 5 minutes ago and now get their entrees. Â The coffee we ordered came in grimy mugs, the waiter skimped on the creamer, only filling the little metal pitcher about 1/3 of the way up. Â It's just stingy. Â Okay, food is dialog here, 45 minutes after ordering. Â
We ordered the chicken wing platter, beef nachos, and chicken w/ dumplings. Â The prices are not cheap. Â The wings are tiny, undercooked, and we got 10 - could've sworn the menu said 12 wings. Â The nachos are a pile of tortilla chips with a ladle of chili, more chips and then cheese. Â Definitely not rocket science - and not worthy of a 45 minute wait! Â The "famed" chicken and dumplings were overcooked and way too salty. Â Plus, everything on the plate was orange - carrots in season? Â Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!
Then there was the clientele - the f-word was frequently the only vocabulary word used. Â We were here with 3 kids. Â
All in all - a complete disappointment! Â If negative stars were an option that's what this place would get - certainly what it deserves!
After reading the enthusiastic reviews on Yelp I was so anxious to try Windy Ridge Saloon & Eatery. Made two attempts (once for lunch and once for dinner) on two different days but Windy Ridge Saloon & Eatery was closed tight. Not even a sign on the door. Saw other people pulling on the door and looking into the windows of Windy Ridge Saloon & Eatery. Goodness sakes! If you're going to bugger out at least leave a sign in the window!
Review Source:It's dark. Â We're hungry, Â We're in an unfamiliar town. Â Trundling down Goldendale's main drag, we spotted this cute little joint with a welcoming whiteboard out front advertising their specials. Â A glance at the menu posted in the window and we knew we didn't need to look any farther. Â (I saw "Chicken and Dumplings" and my friend saw 5 different 1/2 pound burgers and -whoosh!- we were walking through the door.)
Let me cut right to the chase: Â the food was absolutely wonderful. Â The chicken and dumplings was like a cream of chicken soup with a few leavened dumplings (sort of like wet, dense drop-biscuits), and it came with a side of ridiculously good cooked carrots with garlic butter, and a slice of rosemary bread. Â The burger was insane -- locally sourced and extremely flavorful, topped with grilled pineapple, ham (OMG so tender) and an onion ring. Â The side order of house-made potato chips had us rolling our eyes in bliss.
This "Saloon" prides itself on locally sourced ingredients, and you can really taste the care that goes into this food. Â I was hoping to return the next morning for their "Cowboy Breakfast", but our schedule didn't allow it. Â I am left to fantasize about how amazing their biscuits and gravy would be.
The portion to price ratio is high, and the proprietor -- Mike -- is friendly and helpful. Â I highly recommend this place. Â Go!
