This small "nook" of a wine bar is cozy and staffed with friendly, knowledgeable people. Â Although it might not pass full-snob muster in Napa or Sonoma, it is a delightful place to meet with a small number of friends and enjoy some wine and company.
I agree with a previous poster that a sampling option would be fabulous. Â Another brilliant idea would be a regular tasting event. Â If they hold such a thing, it is under-publicized.
I am delighted and grateful to have a wine bar in Westminster and am glad to have them in our town. Â Keep up the work, and please stay!
First, it is a bold move to open a wine bar in Westminster. I moved to Westminster from another state and was unpleasantly surprised about the "types" of people in Carroll County. The college brings in weird, inclusive artsy people, and the locals are "never left the area" small town good ol' boys (and girls). These two groups are not known to be wine snobs generally.
The other issue is, the wine selection is mediocre, and they don't offer samples--I want to be able to sample a wine or two before getting a glass--even if I have to pay for the sample. At least offer a half glass, so if I order a wine and don't like it I won't have 5 ounces to deal with. The server/bartender was very curt, almost rude to my date and I, while across the bar, being attentive and chatty with another couple. I wasn't sure why this was the case (we are not nearly as scathing as my reviews are in person, and we are good tippers). We also ordered cheesecake. It was definitely the frozen variety, but I would have been OK with that if the wine had been good, after all I wasn't there to eat, really.
A good suggestion would be for them to carry some Maryland wines. I think it would be neat-and definitely a pleasure--to enjoy a glass or two of a local wine. Add wine specials and samples and I think that would do a lot for the place.
