This bar is AWESOME! Â I love coming here...the people are super chill & friendly and they have Karaoke Sunday-Wednesday! Â Eric is the BEST KJ EVER!!! Â His sound system is great, he makes you sound really good and he gets singers up quick! Â It's so annoying when KJ's play entire songs or music videos in between singers. Â It's even more annoying when the KJ's put themselves in the rotation to sing and even worse, sing WHILE someone is on stage. Â Eric will sing a song or two every now and then, but he knows how to be a host and keep the party going! Â
The bartenders are really good & attentive! Â I rarely have to wait for a drink and when it's busy, they'll acknowledge me even if they can't get to me right away. Â Some of the bartenders have their own specialty cocktails, so make sure you ask!
They also have a DJ on Thursday nights and DJ or Bands on Friday & Saturday. Â They have different drink specials every night from $10 pitchers to $3.00 Cuervo shots. Â On Monday's, it's Ladies' night...1/2 off all drinks for ladies. Â Crazy, right??? Â On Tuesdays, you get a 2-for-1 drink ticket when you sing your first song.
Seriously, no matter what day of the week, you'll have a good time with good people.
typical small bar in the valley I didn't get any service after I sat down at the bar stool it took about 15 mins to get a drink. They had a band I forget the name of the band but they were a bunch of 50 year old playing bad original  90tes sounding songs. I didn't stick around long after the band started needless to say Ill never come to this bar again
Review Source:I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BAR! Â Fiending for karaoke, like me? The Witches Brew has it, four days a week! Think I'm crazy for loving karaoke so hard? No matter, the Brew has local bands and DJ's on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. There is literally entertainment every night. Awesome!
The bartenders are hot, friendly, and serve up some excellent beverages. Â If it's slower, they'll chat you up and ask about your day, and if it's busy, they always seem to do their best to get you your drinks as quickly as possible. There are specials every day, with great happy hours. It's an awesome place to unwind after work. Though they don't serve food, you can bring in your own. Which is super convenient considering there is an Italian place next door that has great pizza!
This is a very chill, friendly neighborhood spot and whenever I stop in for a drink, I meet cool people, stay longer than I expected, and have a great time!
Inexpensive drinks and it's usually (!) not difficult to get the bartender's attention.
Also, the drinks are good! I like sweet (so-called "girly") drinks, and so I tell them this and ask for them to make me something random. I have never been disappointed.
Karaoke is nerve-wracking. I am the type of guy who LOVES Karaoke when it's in a private room with just your friends (like in Japan or Korea). I am NOT the type of guy who will readily go up onto a stage and sing in front of everybody. Somehow I was convinced to do it at this place, though. And then it wasn't that bad and I felt stupid for making such a big deal about it. But I am also really shy, so we left pretty soon thereafter.
Sometimes it can get crowded, so I don't like that aspect too much. It's hard to stand around talking when the only free space is next to the dart board... especially when a large group of drunk people is in the middle of an intense game. But you learn to live on the wild side, I guess.
I prefer to come on nights when it's quiet. Evening on a Sunday, for example. Even on Sunday, once karaoke starts, it isn't overly crowded. It's kind of the perfect atmosphere.
Checking out dive bars one night in the valley and tried this out based on yelp reviews. Â I've lived a couple miles away for a year and never knew this was here...my loss!
It's small, dark, comfortable, with affordable drinks. Â The bartender was a super nice gal whose name I cannot remember (small with brown hair). Â The night we went, there was a DJ, but the bartender told us they have karaoke some nights as well.
You might think it was sketchy from it's location and exterior, but give it a try.
Not a bar for hipsters, but not a dirty townie either.
I will definitely be back.
Great atmosphere, cheap drink deals and a interesting crowd.
My bartender Kalen was fast and attentive even with the bar being crowded, I was truly impressed.
Karaoke there is fun and inviting, the bartenders even sing while serving!
The bands play fun classic covers and the DJ's play great mixes.
I would highly recommend for a spot in the valley.
Who would have ever thought that a bar in North Hills of all places would be cool?!
Not me, that's for sure. But as I entered this bar with the huge, scary bouncer, in a strip mall, in the middle of nowhere, No Doubt was blasting on the speakers, and people were playing darts, while others were laughing and having a grand ol time. Who'd a thunk it?! Drinks were good and cheap, the music was pretty good most of the night, and the crowd was cool, drama free. It ended up being a pretty awesome night. Thank you Witches Brew.
This place is FANTASTIC. Â It's got that kind of dark, old school neighborhood/dive bar look to it. Â You'd expect Jack, Janet and Chrissy from Three's Company to come walking in any second.
The only reason I was here was because my husband's band was playing, and I was in LA for other reasons anyway, so it just worked out. Â But MAN, if I lived in the area, I'd be at this bar ALL THE TIME. Â The staff is really friendly. Â The patrons are an interesting mix of hipsters, neighborhood folk, and that old cranky man that has sat in the same seat at that bar since, like, 1977, and would tell you war stories and complain about "kids these days!"
The stage area is really small - my husband's band (4 members) couldn't fit on it. Â The sound, however, was pretty decent - I was pleasantly surprised. Â After the bands played, a DJ came out and played a fantastic mix of dubstep, old school hip-hop...I really had such a blast at Witches Brew. Â I heard they have karaoke on Sundays...but sadly, I wasn't in town long enough to experience that.
Maybe next time. Â I REALLY hope there's a next time.
God do I love this bar. If you're not into dive bars, then don't even come in. But if you're into a bar that will welcome you with open arms & regulars who all know each other by name & are like family, this is the place for you. The Brew as people call it, is a smaller bar in North Hills. All the bartenders are female & full of energy & ready to serve. I've never been served there without a smile on their faces & unless it's super busy, which is understandable, they always ask how my day was or how I'm doing. The drinks aren't super expensive either. 4 dollars bottle or draft at night for any domestic... I'm down.
Sunday's - Wednesday's they have karaoke. The karaoke is hosted by 2 different hosts with Eric working on Sunday's & Tuesday's, & Jaycee working Monday's & Wednesday's. The first time I ever came to this bar which was 3 years ago was on Wednesday when a woman named Tammey was bartending, & Jaycee was hosting the karaoke. The selection for songs from both DJ's are wide ranged & most likely than not, they'll have your song. They make it fair in rotations which is hard to find in karaoke bars.
Thursday's they have a DJ. This DJ is actually a really good DJ. They listen if you want to request something & always keep the house with a high energy. Fridays & Saturdays they have bands lined up. I've seen the music switch from blues to rock to country to punk... It's very eclectic. The best part is that no weekend is the same. If you ever hear of an upcoming gig from a band called Samurai Fish, CHECK IT OUT. You won't be disappointed.
Every night they have awesome drink specials. Jägerbombs for $5. Kami shots for $3. Ass Juice (see description below) is always $5. & on Tuesdays they have $2 Bud & Bud Light draft 10pm - 12am.
The bartenders are what make this place for me. Tammey is a veteran bartender there & if you mention her name to anyone there, they'll all sing her praises. She makes her drinks super yummy & makes great conversation with her customers, which is what had me driving from Altadena to North Hills every Wednesday.
Another great bartender to go see is Kristina. She's a young blonde & super nice. She always has new drinks or shots to try out on people & majority of the time, they're brilliant.
The clientele is a hit or miss, but that's with most bars. You're going to have customers come in that are rude or will stalk you if you have a vagina, but luckily the bouncer Dan or the bartenders will listen to you if you complain to them that you're feeling uncomfortable.
Over all, this bar is amazing. Definitely try the ass juice! It's a private mix the bar makes that should be called "sneak up & fuck you up juice".
Hope this was helpful!
Desperately looking for a good hole in the wall bar...this isn't it. It might be great for karaoke night or sports? But beware of the live band night. Wow. The name of the band was test drive? It might as well have been called Taliban torturing....wow. Their "original" songs are best described as serial killer with an IQ of 70 . After "mirrors on the wall" it was our last call.
It's your typical strip mall, dark, dirty decor complete with "ass juice shots" . The bartenders were nice but I'd watch your wallet...these girls didn't  just fall off the cabbage truck and possess that gypsy vibe. They upsell on the liquor, don't give a copy of the receipt and work the lonely guys at the bar...hey, girl's gotta make a living...and I might be the same dealing with those knuckleheads every weekend...
To be fair, I'll probably try the karaoke night and give it another shot the next day I'm itching for a local night out.
I like this place. Regular priced drinks, free karaoke, darts, a cool medieval-looking door in the front and a witch broom hanging from the ceiling inside. My only complaint is the bartender! [the older one] Watch out for her, she's a hustler. I ordered a round of drinks for me and my two friends. $15 for 3 beers. Sounds reasonable. Towards the end of the night when I paid I wrote down a $3 tip on the receipt. She looked at me and said "wow really, that's it?" I was pretty buzzed at this point so I crossed it out and gave her a $10 tip instead. I woke up the next morning and couldn't believe I did that. -______-
She had made other drinks for my friends and I that night but the rest of the drinks weren't on my tab. Either way, the comment she made was rude. Next time she gets no tip!
Good spot to enjoy some drinks with friends. Live band and drinks are good and cheap! I had that fruity drink which was pretty good if you like sweet drinks. Ass juice good. Chocolate shot ...eeehhh. Didn't like it but if you like chocolate it really does taste like it. Apple martinis are yummy too. I know I tried something else but after all these drinks I can't remember. Lol... Overall chill and casual spot.
One thing that was stupid! They ID you every time I went to get a drink! Ok twice but still! Seriously it's a bar! U checked me when I went in! Why do u have to check again when I order a drink at the bar?!
Ever had a Fruit Loops? Try it! A Fruity Pebbles? You'll like it! Ass juice was pretty good. What I really loved were the micheladas!! Just the right amount of spice and beer.
The drinks here are crazy cheap!!! Love this spot. And the bartenders were hot ;) friendly, and very attentive !
Finally made my way to the Witches Brew on friday night. I had a blast!! Dasia is a great bartender. She hooked us up with a drink that tasted like Fruit Loops, AMAZING!! One and a half drinks later, I was done!! I guess you can say I'm a bit of a light weight or my tolerance has decreased due to me not partying anymore LOL Either way, I will definitely be making my way to the bar again soon.
P.S
Don't let the exterior fool you. It may look shady but its a cool little casual spot. Come here if you don't feel like dressing to impress and keeping it low-key!
seeing as how the mister is off alcohol for lent, he demanded a repeat performance of last week's brew experience. even though it was a school night, i was a good little wifey who determined to do her good little wifely duty.
however! as soon as we entered, it was like the air was sucked out of the place! it was just so depressing in there! no music, an old old old old old (and no, i'm not ageist) man humped over his beer in the most hunchbacked kind of way, not talking or looking at anything. the lighting was dim but not so dim that the excessively stained carpet wasn't manifest.
just not a welcoming environment. we had our drinks and skedaddled off to the norwood.
I don't usually go to valley bars but I saw the name and I just had to check this place out.
I came on a Thursday night  and it wasn't busy. The bartender was more than attentive and made my friends and I some crazy good drinks. The place looks like any other dive bar. Nothing special but everyone was really nice and friendly, and the drinks were strong.
They invited us that weekend to come back because they were doing something special with a live DJ. On the weekend this place got crowded. the atmosphere was still fun.
I did leave early though. I was sitting where the dart board is, talking to my friends and what not. There was a butch lesbian couple playing at the dart board and things started to get a little heated. Then I saw one of them was carrying a knife. That was my cue to leave.
Never went back because its way in the valley but far as valley dive bars come, this one was pretty decent.
This place was pretty empty on a sunday, but the service was good, and ppl were friendly. We came here while waiting 45 min for the foot spa next door..my girl wanted us to try,....so we had a beer to relax us before the massage..it sort of worked out bc IT WAS PAINFULL!! hahah!!
good dive bar,,,quite chill and pleasant.
I liked this place, and the best part is that's it in the Valley. So I've been on a tour of Local Bars and this was my second try and so far this is my favorite valley bar.
There was a DJ and although not many people were dancing the place had a good vibe. The drinks were decently price and there was a tv on with no sound, which i guess is for that one dude drinkin by himself.
The inside is your basic bar with seating booths against the wall, Its the type that you could bring a date too but not on the first or second.
I hope to come back eventually.
Came here on a whim after a friend told me about it and reading the review here on Yelp. Decent bar, the bartender was extremely attentive which always makes you enjoy the place better.
The crowd is fun loving, my only unpleasant thing was that the bouncer kept telling us to finish our drinks at 1:45am, even after the bartender told us no rush. For some reason he wanted to single me and my friend out, when there was still other people who just ordered drinks. Â I heard they tend to party with the regulars after hours, but his approach could have been better handled.
Well, hi Wiches Brew. Â I give you one star bec of your awesome name.
This little dive bar has its good and bad things.
It's dirt cheap, I believe they have $1 bud light?? Â I can't remember if it's on certain nights or every night. Â The music varies, they play everything. =)
The crowd is mostly young and chill.
Now to the bad things. =(
It gets way too crowded and hot... It's almost impossible to get a drink.  Make sure you order more than one drink  once you have the bartender's attention bec it may take you a while for your second round.  While the music was good it was waaaay too loud.  And last but not least this bar isn't in the greatest neighborhood...
Nice small Dive bar I once went to, to meet up with friends. The crowd was friendly and it was a decent experience. They had a really good Bartender when I had gone there and now i'm noticing reviews saying he might not be there anymore so its hard for me to say how this place is now.
There is a drink or a beer sold called the Witches Brew which drew my attention to this places name.
One of my favorite places to do karaoke in The Valley. 5 stars because DJ E(ric) has one of the best sound systems I've ever heard, especially in a small, unassuming bar. Each time you sing there it's like a pro sound check. Also, you just tell him the song and artist you want to sing and you're good. No having to search in grimy books with tiny print for stupid numbers to write on ragged slips in the dark! Thank you DJ E for bringing karaoke into the modern age! I believe he does the karaoke there Sun - Tues, but don't quote me, son.
Honorable mention and shout out to JC (I think I got that right), who does the karaoke there on Wed and Fri, I believe.
While he doesn't have the simple artist/song sign up method of DJ E (still uses cursed numbers!), my man can sing and creates a great vibe in this small magical (I like the brooms hanging around ) space.
Okay, I've only rolled into this place on Wednesday nights, but I love this dive. It's a great unpretentious and fun place to get a drink and do some singing on stage.
The first time I stopped by at midnight, and I fouind the place was almost full. For a Wednesday night, I thought that was pretty good!
They had drink specials on Jagerbombs and ass juice! They have a standard selection of bottled beers and have a few on tap. The bartenders, Tami  and Frank are pretty cool people, and take care of their patrons, not just the regulars.
JC is hosting the damn thing, and he does it well ! He seems to love what he does, and you can't hep but fall in with him. The singers range from the amazing to the almost amazing! Everyone is having a great time here.
The parking has never been a hassle for me and the area seems pretty safe. The inside of this place screams dive bar. There's no pool table, no proper dance floor, and the bathrooms are interesting, but the good times you have will make up for that, easily!
I have only tried beers and straight liquor, so I can't speak about mixed drinks, but I can tell you that if you're not enjoying a drink special, the drinks range from 6-9 bucks.
It might not be for everyone, but there's always the chance that you will love the crowd, the karaoking bartenders, the Boss DJ, and the fact that it's so close to home. Gotta love it!
I'm very disappointed in what this place has become. Â My first review gave it five stars but I have to change that. Â I arrived at the bar tonight and a security guard met me at the door and patted me down. Â Normally that would be enough to make me turn around and leave but I was meeting someone so I had to go in. Â When my friend arrived, he felt the same way as I did.
If you want to keep your customers, don't treat us like criminals when we arrive at your establishment. Â That doesn't give us any reason to return. Â Lose the pat-downs. Â They don't accomplish anything and they don't make your customers feel wanted.
I give this place three stars with an almost certain potential to increase as I visit more often...(already learned my lesson about handing out premature 4-5 star reviews...but the mere fact that I considered it should say something about the place)....In any case, here's my quick and dirty assessment:
Why You Might Love This Place:
1) Location Location Location! It's in the Valley (San Fernando Valley)...for those of you who aren't yanno, like, from here, good bars in the Valley are rare to come by... if they do exist, they're usually on the outskirts of the valley (i.e Ventura Blvd)....This bar on the other hand dares to exist where very few bars care to go...ok so that is a bit exaggerated but...very simply, it serves my watering hole needs...
2) The service and people. Very down to earth and friendly - bartenders, bouncers and patrons alike...
3) The music - On the few occasions I've been here, the music has been great. Hip hop mostly...
Why You Might Never Crave To Come Back:
1) Location Location Location! It's the Valley for cryin' out loud...Unless you've adopted the word "like" into your everyday vocabulary...and apply it as frequently as you do the words "the" or "hello" or "a"....then I dunno that'd you'd appreciate this valley born anomaly...
2) The crowd - Obviously not the sassys and classys of hollywood...the crowd from the few times I've been here have mostly been the locals looking for a good place to chill and drink. (Again, not a bother to me...although I can see how this crowd won't scream excitement to most people). I must not lie - a good part of this crowd is a bit ghettofied...but sometimes the ghettofied are a fresh breath of air compared to what you might find on Hollywood.
3) Prices are nothing to boast about sadly....they are the norm.
Other Mention-ables: No cover, dart boards are always good, tvs at the bar...oh and small venue...but rarely crowded so my clausterphob rarely creeps in here.
Good for: Awesome place in the Valley, if you're not feeling the Hollywood crowd and need a place to just let your hair down, loosen your tie and just drink.
As a first timer, I am always a little skeptical about a new place, but this place gave me good vibes before I even walked in the door... Â I, the only smoker in my small group, lagged behind to do my dirty deed while they went in. Â The bouncer, after carding me and my friends, came over to actually be friendly by making small conversation. Â Meanwhile a patron, who had obviously been there a while, came out and was friendly as well (thankfully not overly friendly).
Inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance... the first thing my friend pointed out to me was the fact that there is a fog machine, which got my immediate thumbs up. Â The music was good, although I suggest the back end of the bar if you want to hear what the person next to you is screaming... it was a tad bit loud and the speakers were up front.
The scrolling marketing screen in the corner said that Thursday was Ladies Night but it did indeed seem as though several patrons had misread it as Eighties Night, as there was a lot of big hair and denim jackets.
The lady bartender was a bit stingy with the booze, the the guy, Ken, poured a little more heavy upon request and was much more personable and has drink favorites to share (but you have to ask)
My friend and I have differing opinions on the restrooms: Â I say the vomit on the urinal is a sign of a good bar, and she says that she prefers her toilet seat to be dry... but we won't get to into that.
Overall I say that this may just become my new Thursday hangout when I am in the Valley. Â Good prices, good drinks, good times in pleasant atmosphere!
Pros: Some theming; broomsticks behind the bar, gothic type furniture, heavy gothic door. Full bar. Granite bar. Average priced drinks; $5 beer and $7 cocktails.
Cons: Standard fare. Only about 6 beers on tap (2 of which were bud and coors, and only 1 ale). Small.
Funny story: Leaving the Witches Brew we witnessed an LAPD sting operation-apparently the 24 hour chinese foot massage parlor next door gave more than just foot relief.
I am a big old fan of northridge and the surrounding area. I happened to stop by on a karaoke night. The alcohol was cheap and the people were cool. It had a decent amount of people given the fact that it was a Monday night. Â You might be tempted to call this place a "dive", but I wouldn't because it had a really clean large bathroom. There was a full bar but most people were drinking pitchers of beer. My cocktails were delicious and effective....I will definitely be back. The crowd that night was completely chill, laid back, and friendly. No reason to go anywhere else.
Review Source:bubble, bubble, toil and trouble...if we're gonna get fucked up...it's to Witches Brew...on the DOUBLE!!
and fucked up is what we pretty much did last friday. Â the SIL and family friend (FF) called me up to burn some cash...and get our drink on...and so we ended up at THE BREW.
by the time we arrived we three had already put away a few pitchers of hefeweizen...and just as we were ready to kill off a few more pitchers, little did we know that they would have a live band that played (pretty decent) cover songs off the "alternative playlist". later on that night my bro decided to show up, as did one of his homies with his new lady "friend". Â and we continued to party 'til there was no party left.
hands down this place is a quaint little joint. Â and being at witches brew kind of left me with my own sense of surreal power since throughout the night we were all "magically" making pitchers of beer disappear!
