My family & I are new to Antioch and are eager to try local restaurants. Â Based on the recommendation of a neighbor, we decided to have dinner at Wunder-Bar. Â
The first thing I noticed was the lack of a Children's menu. Â There is a "small portions" menu which I imagine is geared for this audience, however all of these entree were around $10.00. Â That is a bit steep for a 5 year old.
My husband and I both ordered the German Meatballs. Â We both agree that the red cabbage was fantastic, but the rest of the plate was just meh.
There were only 3-4 tables occupied, however the noise level was extremely loud. Â They could stand to turn down the background music at it causes everyone to talk over it just to be heard at your table.
We won't be dining there again.
You'd think that the greater Antioch area would have a bunch of German restaurants, due to its close proximity to Wisconsin. Â You of course, would be wrong. Â But even if there were, they'd have a long way to go to match the experience you get at Wunder-Bar.
The food is good. Â My first introduction to Roulade was here, and it remains one of my favorites. Â Their macaroni salad in the relish tray that comes free before the meal is also fantastic. Â Ditto their fresh-made lemonade. Â The sauerbraten is also very, very good.
And as it should be with small restaurants, the service is warm and friendly. Â The waitstaff remembers your name and what you like. Â The hosts are extremely courteous.
I went out to eat a lot with my dad and brother when I used to live here, and Wunder-Bar was always at the top of my list.
