Early on a Friday night (just when youd think the food would be in progress and fresh) we had the BBQ rib plate and the Ceasar salad. The salad was decent, the BBQ ribs are essentially warmed over after the order is placed. The meat was dried out and the sauce was below average. The garlic mashed potatoes were dried out too but edible.
It makes sense if you think about. Good ribs take hours to slow cook. I can't imagine in a pizza joint there is much demand for ribs. What they have they need to make early and keep it warm until they sell it.
The pizza looked better than the ribs by far but even that reminded me of Russian pizza. Very thin with not much girth to it. We didn't try it.
The soda fountain and the live music was pretty much the highlight of the meal. .
If you must go, pass on the ribs.
This is a must stop if you are going to Julian. Â This is the best place to eat between San Diego and Borrego! Â It took me years to stop here, but so glad a friend told me too. I no longer eat in Julian town anymore, always stop at Wynola on the way.
They have the best wood fired pizza! Â So many choices, but my favorite is the Cowboy. Â My daughters is the Margarita. Â I love the Salmon salad - delish! Â They have a cute soda machine with custom made sodas just for them. Â They have a patio area that is dog friendly. Â The people that work their are friendly (although if you go at a busy time, understand that they may be hurried!) Â The owners greet you by name after just a few visits. Â
The 'Barn' is usually set up for live music on weekends, but its crowded! Â I like to sit outside (weather permitting) or in the 'back' with their custom painted murals done by a local artist.
Enjoy!
If I could give a half star I would! We went here because all the reviews say this place has awesome pizza. It's a lie! We started with the Greek salad, which was alright. But the margarita pizza, oh my goodness, it tasted horrible! I am not really picky with pizza... I will eat just about any kind. But holy smokes I couldn't even swallow the first and only bite. It tasted like soap! We explained to the waitress  who was very nice and accommodating and offered to bring us a new one. She suspected it was the Gouda, so the next one was just plain cheese. When this pizza arrived we were starving and just about ready to eat the table. We tried it and it was the same, horrible! It tasted as though I would expect moldy soap to taste. I'm not sure if it was the cheese or the sauce? I have no idea how one can mess up a cheese pizza, but this place needs help.  If this place is your only option to eat, I suggest you find a liquor store and eat a snickers bar.
Review Source:We were only here to see a friend's band play their swan song. Â So I was not expecting a lot, just decent food. Â We DID get decent food, but the setup is irritating and the service sucked.
I am pretty convinced it was the woman at the register who slowed things down (if Wynola owners are reading, it was Saturday night 5/4 at about 6:00pm)(and I witnessed other employees rolling their eyes about her) Â but the line to order (you order at the counter, get a number, and they bring the food to you ... like Pat 'N Oscars ((or whatever they are called now)) moved like snail slug. Â The "waitresses" that brought the food were not at all sensitive to what was happening in the room where the band was playing or anything ... they were SURLY!
But, the pizza was REALLY good, and my salmon dinner was also very good. Â They need to rearrange how everything goes down and this could be a GREAT place.
What a great pizza! Â A friend told us about this place, and said it was definetly worth the drive from Santee to check it out. Â We ordered Gouda and Sausage and the Thai Pizza. Â Both were excellent, thin crust cooked to perfection. Â Great for breakfast the next morning as well. Â The wait staff was excellent with a cozy, warm atmosphere.
This place is definely as good as it gets. Â You have to check it out for yourself.
Harry and his staff have offered their pizza's, lasagna, salad and rolls for dinner and then turned around in the morning with a stupendous breakfast of scramble eggs, potatoes, sausage, fresh fruit with of course coffee and juice.  It is now a main event of the Ride Across California.  It is a sensational  meal and the staff is absolutely wonderful!!! A must stop in Wynola!!!
Review Source:We stopped in here for an early lunch on the way out from our cabin and we were greeted very warmly with bright smiles from the staff. We ordered a 3 cheese pizza that was very tasty with a nice thin crust. We sat in the back room and it was very cozy and casual, lots of room for kids. When I ordered a soda I was expecting the standard fare, but they have a CUSTOM soda bar, which was awesome. I guess they make them on site. Lots of interesting flavors to try, cream and orange sodas and the like. While I did not have beer, I saw some decent bottled craft beers available.
For a split second decision, without conferring with yelp, we had a very nice meal and were treated well. I would totally go back if I lived closer.
Absolutely fantastic pizza...this is the closest thing I've had to real pizza like they make in Italy : )) and they have anchovies which is a far stretch for a SoCal kitchen...mmmmmm delicious!
we went on a Sat night and enjoyed seeing Sara Petite perform in the red barn while enjoying our salad and pizza tremendously ! The next day after our Volcan Mountain adventures we decided we needed a lil more before heading back into SD...note that it is pretty self serve - friendly folks serving good food plain and simple : )
I just tried WPE for first time last night.
Good pizza, I enjoyed it! I had the veggie pizza :-)
I also had a great slice of apple pie, with vanilla ice cream.
The place was comfortable/enjoyable, and I met the owners who were quite nice, as were the waitresses.
I definitely see myself stopping back in sometime!
Nope. Wrong. Firstly, if someone tells you this is the best place to eat in Julian, that's almost like saying "the best place to buy pork rectum is that nasty little Vietnamese grocer on El Cajon Blvd." Food in and around Julian is generally terrible, unless you're somehow a connoisseur of both Denny's-style (and quality) breakfast foods and awesome apple pies at the same time or you don't mind waiting hours for simply-prepared local fare in Wynola at Jerome's. The comparison between Wynola Pizza Express and the nasty little Vietnamese grocer fails, however, as soon as I consider that the latter is a place I actually like to spend money at, although not on pork rectums.
There is really nothing interesting on the menu of WPE, and the word "Express" should have tipped me off the way it causes that wave of nausea when you consider it in the context of airports. The pizza here is roughly California style, although without interesting (or obviously local) ingredients, that description is probably a stretch. On the day I was there, the pizza was being served with burned crusts. The mosaic tile wood oven the pizza was being overcooked in is actually the only reason why I added the star.
Beer here comes in bottles and is extremely expensive. I just drank some non happy hour priced beers at a restaurant in Coronado (an expensive city), and they were half the price for the same volume as they were in WPE. I understand overcharging your beers for motorcycle riders who come up here to wear bottomless leather pants, flaunt $30,000 bikes, and play Easy Rider on the weekends so they don't drive home drunk and crash because you somehow care about these baby boomer rodeo clowns, but normal folks who are passengers in other people's cars and want to keep the option of alcohol poisoning open because they have a designated driver (silly normal people) will have to bring an extra $200.
I had some ribs here, and these were the most expensive item on the menu. I would have been willing to pay even more for them had they been done well, however. I thought with the word "BBQ" on the sign out front and some ribs on the menu and a wood-fired oven and the barn setting and all, WPE might not be screwing around in this department. Whatever.
Instead, I got boiled, steamed, or pressure-cooked ribs that had never been within an arm's length of even liquid smoke. The pork was nice and unfresh, so the fat had that mortuary/dead human body museum exhibit smell and taste; without a marinade, rub, mop, a real sauce (or three of these), this could scarcely be called barbeque. You know, that which is actually designated by the initials "BBQ." Yes, the meat was tender--that's what happens when you boil tough cuts long enough. The sauce was brown sugar with maybe some Worcestershire and soy and ketchup in it, and "insipidly metallic" would be the only way to describe it. The old folk's home my grandma stayed at before she passed away (bless her heart) had a more flavorful Rib Night, even though shreds of tough cuts caught between denture teeth wreaked havoc on the inhabitants and engendered dire medical emergencies. Â
"Why didn't you send them back?" "Because I'm a purist, and unless you have some ribs sitting in the back that have been in some real hardwood low-temperature smoke for at least 4 hours and are ready for you to finish on the grill or in the wood oven, I'm going to have to wait that long for you do do them right." God, I'm such an asshole. To have the audacity to think fire and smoke had anything to do with BBQ...What the Hell else is the homunculus spawn of Satan's seed supposed to eat?
Even steaming/boiling/pressure-cooking first to tenderize the meat is a forgivable, although not a traditional or optimal way to start making BBQ anything, if you recover the dish properly with a rub, a mop, some smoking time, and a sauce applied at the very end and served on the side. That would have been delightful, but it didn't happen at WPE.
While I worked up an insane appetite hiking 10 miles in the backcountry and properly-prepared ribs would have hit the spot, I barely finished 1/3 of my disturbingly bland meal. I never thought I'd ever need to interrogate myself over whether or not I liked pork ("Yes, Lisa, the same...magical animal"). Â My buddy took my leftovers home because I certainly wasn't going to eat them. Neither was he--he has dogs. I don't remember the last time I made sure canines ate my restaurant leftovers, because if I'm going to bother to purchase food in a restaurant, I certainly don't try to buy food fit only for animal consumption.
I think I had some lame canned baked beans for a side here, although the salad with bleu cheese dressing ended up being the star of the meal (the bottled dressing was the true highlight). Everything was lackluster and reminded me of eating in a cafeteria, and not a good one at some trendy college.
Why do the letters "BBQ" usually mean 'barbeque' everywhere but Julian?
Stopped here on the way down to Julian in search of a different kind of pie and with good reviews on Yelp, it seemed like a no brainer. The place was empty since we came just a bit after lunch time. The woman at the counter was friendly and explained to us the process since it was our first visit. They sell pizza only in one size and that roughly translates to a medium with about 8 slices. This is perfect for two, or one if you are really hungry. The crust is thin and crispy, cooked in a wood fired oven. My girlfriend and I ordered the Godfather pizza since we are meat lovers and we were not disappointed. Drinks are entertaining, they have a good selection of beer with local flavors mixed in. We grabbed a couple sodas which were all local variations of traditional flavors. Overall, a good lunch, I would definitely return the next time I head down for some pies in Julian.
Review Source:Had lunch here yesterday. Jeff from the Orfila Wine Tasting Room in the Wynola  Farms Marketplace recommended this restaurant to us saying everything was fresh and made to order. He told us to try the carrot ginger soup so we did.  It was amazing!  I would highly recommend it. We ordered a chicken salad to go as we picnicked at te Menghini Winery. it had lots of cranberries, walnuts, pineapple and chicken and came with a curry dressing. It was also ver good.  The woman behind the counter was very nice and even brought tasters of the French onion soup out to the patio for s complete with croutons and Parmesan cheese. Great little find.
Review Source:We stopped here on our way out of Julian without knowing much about it. What a pleasant surprise! I had the margherita pizza and it was delicious. Thin, crispy crust and fresh, tasty ingredients. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly and the people who brought our food out were friendly and helpful. They even brought a bowl of water for our dog, which was sweet and much-appreciated.
The only thing that seemed strange to me was they only have one size of pizza (10") and don't sell pizza by the slice. It's all or nothing! I was pretty hungry so I ate an entire 10" pizza myself.
Best Place to eat in Julian..
No one would expect a long one hour journey from San Diego to Julian could reward you with a nice place to rest, hang around and fill your tummies with some delicious pizza..
Usually in places like this, the only thing a vegetarian would have is some salad, french fries and some sides.. But this place has so many vegetarian pizza options that are not just different permutations of the same veggies.. A VEGAN pizza too..
I didn't know they would do half and half, I would have liked to try two different sauces and toppings.. We had the Fresh Vegetables pizza and had jalapenos replaced for the zucchini.. Salt from the cheese and heat from the Jalapenos was absolutely delicious..
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wynola-pizza-express-santa-ysabel?userid=0Mcuo6c6PZsANl-vNG2yDA#bZhEx8wYHhxi6FZnaB_wsw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
I love wood fired pizzas..
The servers were very friendly.. They have a huge dining room and an outdoor area too..
Live music in the evenings, Food & Julian Apple Pie to make it complete - makes this place the best to stop after a tired day of apple picking :)
When you go to Julian on a Sat afternoon on a wonderful day, you know there are lines all over the place whether its the bakeries serving up the famous Julian apple pie or just the BBQ joint. Â
Well this past Sat, we went up for the first time in a long time just to get away somewhere different and a lady gave us a flyer for Wynola while we were walking. Â After seeing the busy lines on all the other places in Julian we decided to go here especially since we had Apricot with us.
The place is dog friendly and across from another more high end place called Jeremys on the Hill (we might try that next time if we are without you know who). Â As the name indicates, it's a Pizza joint and express is a good word for it. Â But Brian and I are often not a follower of what you are suppose to get at a pizza joint.
After considering the BBQ ribs, I opted for the Club Sandwich and Brian wanted the grilled Sockeye Salmon sandwich. Â Well, people who ordered Pizza got their orders quickly while we waited for our Sandwiches. Â I guess they are more prepared for quick pizza orders (hence express) than the sandwiches.
It finally came and it was good for what sandwiches should be. Â It's not something you would go out of the way for but it sufficed for two hungry boys. Â The pasta salad is just okay (side for Brian). Â I just got a bag of chips which was fine. Â
I guess on Sat nights they have music. Â But with the twisting roads from Julian down back, I prefer not to be in that area at night.
So I wish we had ordered the pizza instead and gotten food faster.
this is killing me to write this review because i live so far away and now I'm hungry!! Wynola Pizza Express is the best pizza I have ever tasted and they keep adding onto their menu! I always go plain and simple cheese pizza and artichoke dip (TO DIE FOR!!!) and a root beer
i will be back every time i come to julian :D
Being already out in Idyllwild and knowing a musician friend was finishing up a local tour here, I decided to extend my Sunday motorcycle ride with a side trip to Julian (Wynola, actually, "A Town Without A Post Office" as a local put it.)
Had a pepperoni, mushroom and black olive. Â It's thin crust and the ingredients are real and tasty. Â Ate outside while listening to Alice Wallace and her band. Â Service was good, no (well, few) flies, and the acoustics were stellar. Pie was about two slices too many for one person, but I did manage to down 2/3rds of it and could have forced myself to finish it.
They have a selection of vintage fountain sodas - I had a weird vanilla creme one and a root beer. Â Probably could have sampled them all had I not needed to head back.
Lots of other stuff on the menu, soups, salads, sandwiches... entrees (salmon, chicken, ribs.) Â Didn't venture beyond the pizza myself but saw a lot of other tasty looking things landing on the tables around me.
For fellow bikers: CA 79 and CA371, while not quite as exhilarating as CA74 and CA273, are both quite scenic and very bike friendly. Â They cover an interesting, near desert, rustic part of the state that is a nice, practically traffic-free, diversion.
Staff all seemed like family: friendly, quick and genuine. Â Definitely stop in for a break from the road if you are in the area.
I give the food 4 stars  and the "service" 2 stars. Maybe I should average that out. But this is my small town of Julian and I have to live here....:-)
The Thai pizza is fantastic and their chopped salads are great. This is more than an average pizza joint for sure. The pizza is 10" only. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you will receive.
Live entertainment many nights is usually of the folk variety with outside seating. Personally  for my tastes, I need an infusion of rock once in awhile which you won't get here. Look for that in another review of mine at Bailey's BBQ.
OK))) The service is limited here.. The line to order can be daunting and long and out the door and confusing. If you are enjoying the entertainment expect to get up and wait again in line to get your drink. What? I thought that was where the real "dough" was made in a restaurant. No waitresses. Boo......
All in all this is a great addition to my home town of Julian and pretty damn good food. you won't be disappointed.
Not happy with the pizza....thought it was terrible
....checked out other reviewers who seem to differ and quite frankly I am surprised...First of all they r one size 10 inches?!...who does that seriously...so u have four people...what u buy 3 pizzas...and thin? ..you r not kidding you pick up the box and wonder did they forget to put the pizza in...truly have had better frozen pizza....best in Julian.?...check out the reviews of all the restaurants in Julian.....not exactly a culinary hot spot..ck it out for yourself...
It's a cute little pizza joint along the side of the main highway as you enter (or leave) Julian. Â There is plenty of parking and plenty of tables, including an attractive patio area. Â
The pizzas only come in one size but one pizza should be enough to feed two adults, unless one or both gluttons are particularly ravenous.
It's about $10 per pie and it's thin crust. Â For you math-challenged folks like myself, that works out to about $5 per person. Â You can't beat that price with a stick.
The flavors are fresh but the toppings are meager (come on, is pepperoni that expensive that I only get one little piece of pepperoni per slice?). Â However, I thought the flavors hit the spot.
They have a ice selection of Stone and other brews, too, including Julian Hard Cider. Â They also offer a bunch of Wynola soft drinks from the fountain machine and I may have sampled one or 8 of them. Â Honestly, I only liked the cola version.
Overall, I have no complaints. Â I would gladly stop here again, if I am in the area, and want some fresh pizza at a very reasonable price.
On a side note, I am amused by the reviews of certain Yelpers who found the ordering process here to be complex. Â They have a big sign at the front counter which reads "ORDER HERE." Â May I suggest you try ordering under that big sign next time? Â Then, let me know how that works out for you.
Such a great pizza place! Â If you are ever in the area, maybe visiting Julian or just passing through, definitely stop and get pizza here. Â They have a great selection and is very reasonably priced. Â The sodas are all homemade too so they are delicious and there's a great choice of flavors you don't see anywhere else. Â I especially liked the root beer. Â
Also, the service was top notch. Â The people who run the place are soooo sweet and attentive. Â They really make you feel welcome!
Oooo...a legitimately good pizza place in such a small town! Â The pizzas feed about 2 people, but 1 if you're a really big eater. Â Thin crust is not usually my thing, but i love it on these pizzas.
My dad and I had a pizza consisting of half Thai chicken and the other half Godfathers pizza I think it's called. Both were great. You can't really go wrong with Thai chicken, and the Godfather one has sausage, pepperoni, salami, and a great blend of spices and garlic. I highly recommend both of those. I also recommend doing the half-half thing so you can try 2 different ones with your fellow pizza sharer.
I really enjoyed the soda fountain...made by a local company, these sodas are made with real sugar cane instead of high-fructose corn syrup, and they have cool flavors like pomegranate and vanillas bean cream :)
All in all, this pace deserves 4 to 5 stars on the general pizza world...it is definitely one of the best pizzas I have ever tried.
3.5 stars
I was pleasantly surprised by Wynola Pizza and their delicious offering of Woodfired gourmet Pizza. Â Isn't it great when you spontaneously stop in the middle your drive back home to pick up some lunch only to find a wonderful place with great food. Â This basically sums up my experience at Wynola Pizza. Â Very good food and friendly service!
These aren't four it's-in-a-small-town stars, but four it's-fine-pizza stars.
Very crisp, very thin crust pizza baked in a wood fired oven. Â And it's great. Â The various toppings are plentiful and varied. Â It's the crust that is the standout.
WPE has two additional attractions.
1. Â A soda machine with a huge selection of local sodas. Â They're great and will fire up your taste buds while you are waiting for your pizza..
2. Â The desserts. Â The four of us split a slice of cheesecake. Â Excellent. Â And a wood-fire baked bread pudding. Â Outstanding. Â I mean really outstanding bread pudding. Â Better than most fancy restaurants can produce.
So why not five stars?
1. Â It's only pizza. Â
2. Â The front end of the process needs to be re-engineered. Â You order and pay first; they bring the order to your table when it's ready. Â But it was confusing. Â First the line went one way. Â When I went back to order dessert it went the other way. Both times people who came in after me ordered first. Â And the cashiers' union must have ordered a slow down. The cashier was the slowest I have ever encountered anywhere including East Germany before the fall of the Wall.
BTW there was a whole parallel thing going on with barbecue in a smoker out front. We didn't try it, but it sure smelled good. Â
Bottom line: Â I wouldn't drive from SD just to eat at WPE, but if you're in Julian it is well worth the extra three miles on the Santa Ysabel road.
My experience with food establishments in small towns is usually pretty bad (bad service, really bad food, and little to no options for vegetarians), so I went in with low expectations. Boy, did they prove me wrong! Not only do they have abundant vegetarian options, they have several vegan options too! Even tofu!
This is NOT your typical small town pizza joint.
The service is fantastic - everyone here is exceptionally sweet and helpful.
The pizzas can be shared by two people, though if you have a large appetite, you may be able to polish off most of one by yourself. My husband and I split one and were more than satisfied. The ingredients seem to be pretty high quality.
The husband, a beer connoisseur, was impressed with the selection here, Â though we both would recommend trying the local Julian hard cider.
I don't come through Julian often, but I plan to stop here for all my future trips.
As a big fan of thin crust pizza, and to continue my search for good pizza in California, I had to try this one. Â Gotta say, it wasn't bad. Â The crust was nice and thin but. would have liked it to be a bit more on the crispy side. Â The crust was crisp around the rim, but the rest was kind of soggy. Â Had the pepperoni pizza, and the pepperoni was just okay. Â Did make the pizza a bit greasy. Â The sauce was very good, and the pizza had a nice amount of cheese.
The pizzas are fairly small, more of a personal size. Â Plan on one pizza per reasonably hungry adult, unless you get a salad or appetizer.
Plenty of outdoor seating available.
Would certainly go again, and so far one of my favorites in California.
Every time I head to Julian for the weekend, I look forward to not only the amazing hikes and spending time on the Cuyamaca Lake but also to eating at Wynola Pizza express for some of the best thin crust pizza I've eaten in California.
Service here is phenomenal....5 stars for being super friendly. They are as nice on the phone for takeout as they are when you actually sit in and eat. Only been here on weekends and they always had live music...mostly blues and I loved it! This is a dog friendly place, so you can sit on the patio outside with your dog and they always ask you if you need a water bowl for your furballl...love it!
The gourmet pizzas are amazing. They are incredibly thin crust, baked in a wood fire oven and delicious! We tried the cowboy (ground beef, jalapenos, red onions) pesto (homemade pesto sauce, tomatoes, zucchini), fresh vegetable with eggplant (pine nuts, eggplant, lots of veggies)...loved all of them!! Keep in mind that the pizzas are 10 inches, so a little too much for just one person but too little for 2 people. We ordered one the first night as take out and regretted it as soon as we wolfed it out in 10 minutes. Next night, we ate in the patio and ordered 2 pizzas but had left over to take back to the cabin!
Also, most of the restaurants in Julian close early, so it's nice to find a place open till 9 pm. If you are in Julian, definitely stop here for the pizza..It's delicious!
The food was okay; the service was not.
When you walk in, you order at the front counter, then sit down and a server will bring your food out. Â The man who took our order at the counter was not very friendly at all. This place is obviously a hang-out for locals, which we are not, so immediately we felt out of place and not very welcomed. My husband ordered the Godfather pizza, I got the salad pizza, and we ordered the hummus appetizer to share.
Our hummus took about 30 minutes to come out, which is way too long for a cold appetizer. The "warm baguette" was cold, and the hummus itself was the right flavors, but the wrong texture. Hummus is supposed to spread out on your plate, bot sit there in an ice cream scoop shaped ball.
About 10min after getting our hummus, the pizzas arrived. The server warned us about the pizza tray being hot, but that was pretty unnecessary since my husbands pizza was sitting at room temperature. The salad pizza was good; the Godfather pizza would have been good had it been hot.
The most frustrating part was watching other couples come into the room and receive their piping hot pizzas right away.
The food was good, but the service was not. Overall I just felt uncomfortable there. Next time I'm in Julian, I won't be going out of my way to eat here again.
"VANILLA Pizza!!!" my little boy beamed, as I saw the famous Pizza sign and declared, "We are going to have lunch at Wynola Pizza." Â
At 3PM, it was a snackunch or lunchmunch time, not really lunch, so I ordered just one with Thai toppings on half and rest pepperoni for kids. Â A medium (their only size) with thin crust and loaded with all kinds of sumptuous toppings, was the yummiest snack I had in awhile - that's two slices each - just enough to not overload my system with artery-cloggers. Â But leaving plenty of room and desire to stop on my way back at the bottom of the mountain and enjoy a perfect slice of Julian Apple Pie at Highway 78/79 junction in San Ysabel.
Must say, though that the little boy was not amused by the absence of vanilla topping on his slice of pizza! Â I told him, "next time."
[from menu] *Thai Chicken  $12.95 - Pizza sauce, diced pieces of chicken breast laced with peanut sauce, mozzarella cheese, green onions, bean sprouts, julienne carrots, cilantro and nut topping.
We stopped in this afternoon for a late lunch after picking some apples and pears. Â This place was a perfect place for us! Â Their menu has a number of different pizzas and salads... some apps and entrees too. Â We ordered a Hawaiian pizza... we thought about a salad, but weren't that hungry after sampling the apples and pears from the orchards. Â
We LOVED our pizza! Â It was fantastic! Â I also enjoyed the Vanilla Bean Cream soda they had.
Next time we make our way up to Julian, I'm sure we'll be stopping by for another pizza!
Very good pizza, I had a small Hawaiian and I think a BBQ chicken and loved everything. I'm even more impressed considering there's almost no competition around.
It's probably the best place to stop and eat dinner if you're driving through the area. It's not big on atmosphere but the food makes up for it. There's a bit of outside seating which is great for the 8 months a year when it's not freezing cold out.
I can't wait to give it another try.
One of the best pizza's I've had in Southern California. Â The thin crust pizza is baked in a brick oven and I have not had a bad pizza in my four visits to this restaurant. Â My wife loves their Wynola Root Beer and she can't wait to go back. Â The service was friendly and live entertainment every Saturday night.
This place is always a guaranteed stop on our way to Julian.
Definitely stop in here. It's charming and homey. They have a large menu with many different types of pizzas, large and tasty salads, several local sodas on tap (don't expect Coke and Pepsi) and many bottled beers.
The Greek salad is big and delicious. I think I licked the bowl it was in.
There was entertainment in the "barn" next door. Sarah Petite played guitar and sang along with a guy on a mandolin. It was filled to capacity and provided the right kind of charm and atmosphere for a cold night in the mountains.
Great place to eat before or after visiting Julian and don't want dinner food!
I wasn't craving sandwiches or a burger but pizza sounded amazing! We past by this place and didn't think to much about it because we were on the way to Julian and it's pies. After walking the town and checking out other places to eat and checking out the local pizza place (not recommended by locals) we asked around where there is a good spot to eat and asked if that pizza place we good. The locals in Julian defiantly recommended it to us.
When we arrived to pizza place....that looks clean by the way...we were greeted by everyone that worked there and they were so helpful.
The thin pizza is one of my favorites and the Joe Godfather was an amazing selection! I would recommend it if you like meat but not over kill of meat.... just great flavor! The caesar salad was really creamy and more then enough to share for 2. I would also recommend their fountain drinks since they are unique to this particular restaurant.
I would defiantly come back here again!
Short: AAAWESOME!
Long: My friend Kohei decided to take me hiking up near Lake Cuyamaca and one the way there saw "pizza" and pulled over for lunch.
Right when you enter the little patio, you're greeting with flowers and a nice, welcoming feeling. Â The lady who took our order was just as sweet and inviting. Â They make everything on their menu themselves, from the pizza dough to soda. Â Soda? Â Not the usual Coke or Pepsi brands? Â I was intrigued. Â Kohei and I settled on the Joe's Godfather pizza (three different types of meats) and Caramelized Pizza Crust Salad to balance it out. Â The pizzas are thin crust, approx. 10", normal stuff. Â We were warned that the salad pizza was big, but just kind of disregarded that - we were hungry and going hiking.
We got two soda cups and tried all there special Wynola brand sodas. Â I'm a loyal Coke drinker but I will say that even though the sodas are a bit similar, I kind of prefer the Wynola brand sodas, especially the Spiced Cola (it's basically sarsaparilla soda that I normally DON'T like).
We sat out on the patio on a nice, sunny day under the shade of the umbrellas and our pizza came out in a while (be patient, it takes time to make). Â Of course, the salad pizza is HUGE, piled on top of the sesame crust is enough salad to fill a large bowl. Â They were good separately, but then we got the brilliant idea of eat them like a pizza sandwich - DO IT! Â Joe's Godfather with the pizza salad, it's amazing.
Of course had way enough for leftovers and for eating after the hike. Â I'm definitely dragging my family there when we go visit our cousin out in Oceanside - and that's already a huge drive for us.
