I have mixed feelings about this place.

The Yacht Club recently moved a few doors down from its longtime spot. Basically, they just recreated the exact same layout they had. Upon entering, you find a bar, even before any seating. The dance floor is a big rectangle right in the middle of the place, surrounded by tiered booths and semiprivate VIP's that look more like bleachers in my old high school. The service is very good, provided by longtime waiters that know their craft. Mixed drinks are OK (ladies in my group asked for Pina Colada,  Manhattan, and  Margarita, and they seemed pleased with what they got), We also ordered a bottle Scotch. The bummer is that instead of bringing a set of bottled or canned club sodas,  they poured machine-mixed flat stuff on a pitcher and that is what we got. I saw other tables with Coca Colas and Sprites on pitchers also. Waiter told me that was how sets are, no substitutions...

From what used to be a hip disco, The Yacht Club is now a night club with comedy nights on Fridays and Tejano music on Tuesdays. That's it, they do not open any other days during the week (as far as I know, please someone tell me otherwise, and I'll stand corrected). I really don't get it: I guess the owner pays rent for 30 days of the month but only uses the venue 8 times during the same period.

Last night -Comedy Night- showcased a comedian brought from Mexico City named "Agapito" (We're at the border, remember?). Agapito takes his fame from a show called "La Escuelita" aired both in the Univision and Televisa Spanish networks. The guy gave the audience more than 80 minutes of his standup routine, putting a good effort in making the night enjoyable. (some material was comprised by old jokes everyone knew, though). Before him, the opening act was a drag queen lipsincing big Hispanic signger/song writer Juan Gabriel (he actually had a great physical resemblance to the star).

The Yacht Club is the right spot if you want good service and your Scotch mixed with flat club soda at the same time. Also, the place was half-empty and that did not help. After show was over, music is played by a DJ relying too much on Grupera and Tejano that used to be hits 5 years ago.
