What more could you possibly want? Great local flavor, beautiful honest food, great drinks that, if they were any cheaper, they'd be paying YOU to drink them. I mean, really, how fussy can you be not to love this place? If you don't agree, perhaps at Olive Garden you'll feel like family...
Review Source:Love this place. Â It is a local hangout with solid food at fair prices. Â Great fried clams, fried scallops, and fish and chips. Â Really good burgers, and the stuffed clam is the best on the Cape. Â Very informal pub. Â Not haute cuisine, but if you feel like a casual night out, you won' do better than the Yardarm.
Review Source:No complaints with the bar or the food. Â We stopped in at the end of March, so it was off-season. Â There were no tables of four available but we decided to wait the 20 minutes that the hostess guessed. Â Grabbed a couple of beers at the bar and sat down at a hightop to wait. Â About ten minutes later the hostess informed us that one table had their bill so it shouldn't be long. Â We watched as that table and two others left and the staff cleaned them. Â Still we sat at the hightop. Â About twenty minutes later we got up and stood at the hostess station, whereupon the hostess saw us and it was apparent she had forgotten all about us waiting. Â Finally got seated.
The waitress came and got our drink order and promptly brought them to the table, then promised to be right back to take our order. Â We then waited about 20 minutes as she bounced around from table to table, never stopping at ours. Â She finally stopped only to apologize and tell us she had to take another parties drink order and then she would be back. Â Gave the excuse that we had come in right after the rush. Â After about another 10 minutes she finally arrived to take our order.
I can understand being swamped during the tourist season, but this was March and by the time we got seated the place was half empty. Â For a place that has been around for a while they should be better able to handle the off season dinner rush. Â The problem appeared to be more that the waitress could only handle on thing at a time, when she would take a drink order she would then go right to the bar and stand there until the bartender filled the order. Â No multitasking!
Luckily the food was fine.
I had dinner here a couple of months ago and it was one of the worst experiences with service I have ever had. Â Apparently, it was open from lunch straight through to dinner without having a period of time between according to the the hostess. Â The restaurant was kind of busy, not so busy to excuse the wait staff however. Â The hostess took what seemed to be 15 minutes before acknowledging us, we actually couldn't even tell who was the hostess was because she wouldn't even make eye contact to let us know she knew we were waiting to be seated. Â By this time I was about ready to go to another establishment who has a professional waitstaff with common sense, but we stayed. Â So continuing, Â she let us sit wherever we wanted, which attests to how "busy" they were... So, I tried to let this go and enjoy the rest of the experience here, which became even more horrible. Â Our waitress didn't come to our table, we waited about 10 minutes and we went to the bar to order a beer and some wine. Â Still, no waitress around, until I drank about half of my glass of chardonnay. Â When she came to greet us she had the personality of wet sock. Â She never smiled, never frowned, never had any range in her voice besides monotone. Â She didn't even address the fact that we had to go to the bar for our drinks. Â I had noticed this younger woman before I knew she was our waitress and she was nonchalantly taking orders of people who had arrived after us, standing around looking like a bump on a log... Anyways, besides having no personality, she really didn't know anything about the menu and didn't ask basic questions like, "how would you like that cooked?" or "what kind of salad dressing would you like?". Â I felt like she didn't want to be waiting on us or anyone else in the restaurant. Â My boyfriend and I eat out on a regular basis, anywhere from the Impudent Oyster to this place. Â Never have we had such awful service, I would never go back for food, maybe a drink at the bar, but that's about it. Â I would never and will never recommend the Yardarm to anyone. Â The food is mediocre, I mean it's pub or bar food and for the price it's a pretty good deal, but the service is atrocious and will ruin your night out.
Review Source:Yardarm was overall  a fantastic local Cape Cod Hangout. A place where the locals eat. The waitress was good and pointed out that the fish was locally caught within that day or a day or two max by local Chatham/Orleans fishermen. I had Fish and Chips which was awesome! No complaints. =) Great spot to feel like a Cape Cod local. Don't know how busy it gets in the summer, we went off season around late November.
Review Source:Came here on a busy Friday night. Luckily there was only 2 of us, so we only waited about 20 minutes for a table, during which time we grabbed a drink at the bar. The atmosphere is loud, very loud, but never deafening - I never had trouble hearing my boyfriend across from me at dinner, and the volume only adds to the ambiance, it being a local pub.
They only have one local beer on tap - the Cape Cod IPA - which was a little disappointing as Cape Cod Beer has many other great brews, but the IPA is excellent. For appetizers we shared the popcorn shrimp and stuffed quahog, both were very tasty. For dinner I got the fisherman's platter, which includes shrimp, scallops, sole, and whole belly clams with fries and coleslaw. All of it was cooked very well and the fish was flaky and soft, which I liked. My boyfriend had the BBQ ribs, which were also tasty, but not out of this world delicious.
All in all we had a great time here and will be back again. It's worth a try for dinner if you're in the area - their menu is large, and their specials board includes lots of different options.
As a local I can tell you that this is a friendly, decent, undistinguished eatery attached to a bar. Very nice staff. And truly a local place.
What I must also tell you is that the location and directions are totally "verkakt." To get there call the place and ask. If you follow the directions here you will be good and lost.
One of the worst restaurants I've even been!
Service was lousy and unfriendly to adults and kids. Waited forever to be seated and to order food. Messed with the checks. And it was not a rush-hour. My kid kicked off his crocks at the table and host asked to put them on. At the table.
A/C was making us all uncomfortable - too cold.
Food. Well, at least none of us got sick after all. That's a plus.
Clam chowder and seafood chowder missed clams and the seafood.
Fish and chips - fish was "blah" - Â nothing special. French fries was over-fried.
Calamari were very mediocre.
Very disappointing since the overall rating was high.
Came here after a short trip to the Cape with some friends.
I had the Cape Cod Scrod.... Â to be honest, it was very bland - not a lot of flavor at all. Â Unimpressed.
However, the clam chowder was faaaaaaaantastic. Â Far better than Legal Seafood.
My friend had the scallops, and she too said it wasn't that great, but she loved the chowder, which is high praise because she doesn't even like chowder much to begin with.
What a great little spot. Â We came here with friends while staying in Eastham. Â This felt like the local spot among the touristy traps. Â The menu had enough to please everyone and if it didn't the specials definitely did. Â Think $8 for a cheese burger. Â "M" had the jalapeno burger for $8.75 and really enjoyed it. Â "A" had the sole sandwich and loved it.
Review Source:Been here a number of times over the past couple years and I kind of like it for what it is.
What it is is a dated hole in the wall place with decent food. It's a fun atmosphere and certainly nothing fancy. Shorts and tee shirt kind of place. I had the fish & chips last time I was there and enjoyed it. I should have gotten the larger size. But over the years between me, friends & family we're tried a lot of different things and everyone always seems happy.
I think the food is slightly better than at the Land Ho nearby though they are very similar type places.
It's mid-winter on the Cape, and lots of places to eat are closed. We wanted to try one we hadn't been to before. We read the reviews on The Yardarm, and decided to try it. Big mistake! While the staff were friendly, and the place  buzzed with conversation, the food was AWFUL. I ordered baked scallops. They were tiny farmed bay scallops with no flavor. Worse, they came in a soupy sauce that was downright bitter. I had expected a casserole of tightly packed sweet-tasting sea scallops with some butter and a crunchy crust of bread crumbs. I got nothing like it. The side was carrots and broccoli. The carrots were raw cubes and the broccoli was one small uncooked floret. Only the French fries were decent. Twenty bucks for THAT???  I have a suspicion that people go here for the meat, for we saw many plates of burgers and beef tips, and not for the sea food. There are far better places within a mile to have seafood. And it wasn't inexpensive, either. Never again!
Review Source:Really, the yahdahm is a great local pub with really great pub food. Â All the fried seafood is tasty and light with really generous portions. Great steak tips, great homemade fish cakes, awesome onion strings, nice waitresses that have been there forever. Yes, baked beans with the fish cakes, its a cape cod thing. Way bettah than the land ho, I used to like it there but its just weird now and way overpriced. Go to the yahdahm you will not be disappointed!
Review Source:Great local hangout and restaurant. Â Good option with kids. Â The seafood was fresh. I made the mistake of having the fish tacos on "Mexican night." Â Not great, but not bad. Â Others in my party had good fresh seafood. Â Fish and chips looked great. Waitstaff was quite accomidating of the children and made the experience pleasant. Â
The crowd was more heavily on locals with a large bar scene. Â We arrived at about 5:30 on a Wednesday evening and were seated right away. Â The restaurant was filled with people waiting when we left around 6:30. Â Bar was one deep. Â Beer and wine selection were a level up from a dive bar. Â
Pricing was reasonable for a place on the Cape.
This is a place we would certainly come back to with our next trip to the Cape.
When vacationing, I enjoy going where the locals go and this fit the bill perfectly. It looks small from outside, but they manage to squeeze you in!
The restaurant is lively, friendly and the food is very good. Many seafood dishes, which I prefer more than anything, but plenty of interesting landlubber specials as well. I had the seafood chowder, which was excellent and ordered baked scallops and baked potato instead of the fries. (And, I still gained 4 lbs. in one week away!) If you like good food, a fun atmosphere and friendly service, you can't go wrong.
I had the lobster salad and the it was good served with fresh vegetables and a choice of dressings.  The hostess was very friendly and welcoming  but the waitress was crusty and didn't like answering many questions.  Lastly, I did have the chowder and it was excellent (New England not New York style).  As others have said, it is a good place for the value.
Review Source:It was the end of a long day of flying/driving and we were looking for a place to just relax and eat. Thank you Yelp for directing me here. Yes it does seem like a lot locals eat here, which is a good thing. Locals always have the best tips for what to do in the area, so we enjoy their company. The restaurant is loud and lively, which is great for us since we have two boys and it reminds us of family dinners at home. The stuffed quahog is out of sight. They have daily specials, including steaks on Friday nights. The clam chowder was one of the better ones we've had. The lobster roll was delish. Finally, the prices were very reasonable for this part of the world...great for vacationers on a budget.
Review Source:This is a good place, with a good value for your dollar. I had the Chicken Angelino which was grilled chicken in a creamy tomato sauce over pasta. Very nice. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their entrees : Cape Cod scrod, a fish sandwich, and the haddock special. It's a cozy, noisy atmosphere where a lot of locals go.
Call ahead because it's really busy in the summer..they won't take a reservation, but they will put your name on the "call ahead list" and you will save time.
Our waitress was just ok..never offered her name and never checked on us after we got our food. But we were seated quickly and anything we asked for was provided.
Went here earlier this week while visiting the cape with hubby, and my dad and step mom. We went to check out Nauset (SP??) Beach and then popped in here for lunch. We were sat right away. The staff was friendly and attentive, refilling water when needed. A little tight on space but they were able to seat people right away and had a steady flow. Food was good- decent size portions for the price. I got the Jersey sandwich- had turkey, ham, cheese lettuce and tomato and came with a bag o chips and a pickle. Huge portion but I was starving and ate it all. Hubby got a turkey club (I think), dad got a chicken sandwich and chowder to start and my step mom got the chicken and pasta salad. She thought it was going to have more chicken then it did- only three small chunks. Overall liked it and we would go back for sure.
Review Source:I was jealous of Matt J's pastrami sandwich...I'll admit it.There was so much oozy cheese and sauerkraut in that grilled sandwich I found myself wishing I had ordered that instead of my crab cakes....
But server said anything fried and anything seafood was this pub's specialty! So I went with that and ordered the crab cakes which looked pretty and the sauce served on top was pretty good, but I prefer my crab cakes a little more seared on the outside--it was not quite what I was envisioning after our 20 mile bike ride that day ha. Plus having crab cakes served with baked beans was a little strange too ha The beans were okay...but the coleslaw was a little bland for my taste. But Matt J's sandwich now that was a winner. Plus he substituted the fries for their onion strings which was another winning choice. Those things didn't taste too fried at all, and they definitely kicked the butt of their regular fries and their spiced curly fries.
So really this place deserves 3.5 stars, but since I can't give half stars, I had to round down for the sides with my dish, especially for being $13...and we could tell some of the staff were not happy to see a party of 8 that late into the lunch session...But this random locals spot really is better than it looks! We were all a little hesitant when we walked in, but the second we saw the popcorn machine we knew we were in good hands ha
"So I'd recommend anything on the menu that's fried," says our waitress.
We were suspicious, but the Yardarm is a great, mostly-locals, wood-paneled, no-frills pub with surprisingly awesome fried things. The fish sandwich - lightly battered, where the batter doesn't in any way overpower the butteryness of the cod. Yum. And a good size for about $9! But the size prize goes to the lobster roll - ginormous. Overflowing, even.
The fried crispy onions that come with some of the sandwiches were great. The french fries were a little overly battered, but what do you expect from a pub that specializes in fried things? The burgers were good but nothing special. Order something fried.
It's no fancy eating experience, but it's a great reasonably priced, no-frills option.
Walking in, the place is a bit stuffy, real noisy, and almost smells fishy, but, this vibe totally works; after all, this is a locals pub way out on the cape.
The food was not mind blowing delicious, but tasty and priced well. Â The Cod fish 'n chips were not over battered so we could taste how fresh the fish was. Â Very good. Â The clam strips, on the other hand, were way too fried and I couldn't really taste the clams. Â Good clam chowder - not the best I've ever had. Â Lots of fresh daily specials up on the white board. Good local IPA to wash it all down.
I'd rate the food 3 stars, but am giving the overall experience a 4 because the local fishing captain pounding beers at a table next to us was quite the character and made the visit memorable.
OK, I have good news and bad news about the Yardarm.
First the good news - this is a quaint little place with good food, great service and a friendly atmosphere!! Â I would definitely go back again, but maybe for dinner at night - probably the same food, but the price points would be in a more dinner mindset.
Now the bad news - $60 for a lunch of fish and chips, a clamroll and a couple of beers. Â Ack! Â Just a little pricier than expected. Â I definitely think that this place is way better than any of the places on the strip (read Arnold's). Again, I would definitely return - it's a great atmosphere - there's a good beer selection (although no sangria for my wife) and it's off the beaten path, so not frequented by a bunch of loud tourists.
We recently took over a rundown house in Orleans. Â The kitchen doesn't work. Â We've been back and forth many times to work on the house and the Yardarm is our favorite place to crash after a day of labor. Â
It's relaxed and the daily specials are always good. Â It really is the best chowder around and the fried foods are not overly battered or greasy. Â You can sit and have a beer or a glass of wine and relax for a bit. - nobody rushes you. Â Try the board specials and you won't be disappointed.
Looks a bit tiny from the road, but there is plenty of room inside. Â The staff is friendly and helpful. Â All in all a great little local joint.
Don't be intimidated by the 'hole in the wall' appearance of this place. Sure, locals go - but that's the best thing. If they are going, something must be right, right? Right.
Fantastic fish 'n chips, chowder, and holy crap the stuffed quahog is amazing. The fish isn't coated with a massive oily batter - it is light, yet very crisp and the fish is very fresh.
Its a very relaxed place, nice little bar and a few beers on tap (get the local Cape Cod brews - don't seem to be on the menu but they are on tap). Staff is very kind, and won't step on your toes.
Small place, but great food and atmosphere. It's a casual place to grab a quick meal or knock back a few brews after a long day at the beach. I went with a few girlfriends a few weeks ago before a night on the town, and our meals were really good. I got a stuffed clam and coleslaw, and my friends got fried clams and a hamburger. All were satisfing and the prices were just right (Especially for recent college grads. like ourselves who are still unemployed due to this great economy). Stop in for some drinks or a fresh, Cape Cod seafood dish!
