Having visited OG for many years and now living in The Grove, we have dined in nearly every restaurant within 10 miles, I have to say that Yvonne's "specials" menu has IT all over any other restaurant nearby. Â The chef succeeds where others only try to succeed. Â Eat in or outside. Yvonne and her Chef are a gift to Ocean Grove and Monmouth County and all those who have the good fortune to visit from outside the area.
PS. If you have to wait a bit for the "specials", it  IS worth it!
I cant understand how yvonne's cafe only has 2.5 stars. Yesterday my husband and I kinda stumbled in because we got into town late and just needed a place to eat. This was the first place that looked open. We were pleasantly greeted and sat ourselves. I ordered the tuna wrap which was excellent fresh mango perfectly ripe avocado and a large piece of non fishy tuna. It was delicious my husband ordered the california wrap and he likes large portions and he was more than satisfied.  Our waiter checked in on us and the prices were affordable. I would recommend  and go back to Y'vonnes in a heart beat and I am a really picky person.
Review Source:I live in Asbury Park, the town adjacent to Ocean Grove, and wanted breakfast somewhere new. So me and the girlfriend decided upon Yvonne's. Bad idea. The service was fine. I cannot blame the waitress for the experience there. We order an omelette and there version of biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs on top. First the omelette; dry, overlooked to the point it was pretty much burnt. Potatoes were also burnt and basically flavorless. Had to send it back because it was pretty unpleasant. Second, the sausage and egg debacle; the biscuits were burnt. The eggs were, well, eggs. Not burnt but smothered in what was advertised as "sausage gravy", but more resembled a canned brown gravy mixed with bits of sausage in it. Not the creamy white sausage gravy I was expecting. Potatoes were again, burnt. Maybe I was expecting too much but then again maybe it just was a bad day. Either way I'll never know because I will not be going back any time soon.
Review Source:Went here for breakfast yesterday and the experience wasn't very good. Â The service was exceedingly slow but waiter my was polite but overwhelmed. Â An older woman, the manager (maybe Yvonne) routinely got in the way and provided no value when I made a request to her for my coffee that never appeared. Â She said my waiter would be by. Â Five minutes later he was.
The breakfast burrito was dry and lacked flavor. Â The coffee was undrinkable. Â For a better meal I'd recommend the coffee shop a few doors down, Barbaric Bean Coffee Roasters. Â I went there today and everything was much, much better.
I had eaten here once or twice before and the food was decent so when I was picking something up in the Grove last week, I thought I would grab a quick dinner here. Â I asked for a table outside and was told to just sit down. Â After maybe 10 minutes, a passing waiter noticed I was sitting there and handed me a menu. Â 20 minutes later I was still waiting for any kind of service when the waiter who handed me the menu asked if anyone had been over to help me. Â I said, no and he rolled his eyes and went inside. Â No one ever came back over, so after waiting another 10 minutes, for a total of 40 without even a water, I left. Â I went down the street for pizza and two minutes later saw a large family who had been at Yvonne's come for pizza as well. Â I'm guessing they had the same issue. Â I was really disappointed!
Review Source:Wife and I got there at 1pm and still wanted breakfast. Â Choose the veggie omelet and the portabello/red pepper omelet. Â Very large portions, with tasty whole grain bread, hash browns and a tiny piece of fruit and tiny muffin. Â A lot of food for a reasonable price and plenty of veggies in the veggie omelet. Â Service was solid and food was quick and hot. Â No complaints at all. Â
Reading the other reviews I can only assume the poor reviews came due to the cafe unable to keep up w/ a heavy volume. Â I believe there was only one cook and one waitress there when we arrived, but there were only two other tables occupied (and finished eating) when we arrived and one other diner came as we were finishing up. Â They got the job done the day we dined and we had a great meal.

Went there again this past week (9/21/11) under similar conditions; we arrived at 2pm and ordered a breakfast type meal. Â Again, few patrons made for great service and a wonderful meal. Â Yvonne's Cafe deserved the 4-star rating I gave them.
I used to love this place, but it's been a "miss" the past 3 times I came here. Â Love eating outside in Ocean Grove, and the location is fantastic! Â Usually, the eats are really tasty - nothing fancy but it's always had a dee-lish "homemade" feel to it, and always hit the spot. Â But it's been bad lately. Â I had the worst omlette ever here (spinach/feta omlette from the 'specials' list). Â It was very overdone, and the feta tasted like play-doh. Â For my next meal, the pancakes were OK, but a little cold (perhaps due to the service... get to that in a moment), but I asked for a side of fruit. Â I got 3 pieces of melon and a couple of grapes. Â Could ya spare it? Â Service is usually OK, but when it's bad it's bad! Â The adult employees are solid, but they also employ some teens to help out. Â Some of them bust their butts and do a nice job, but on my last visit I encountered a teen that needed to take the service job more seriously. Â We were sitting outside and I had to get up and enter the restaurant myself to get water, napkins, and the check for my table. Â This was after I repeatedly asked for all these politely, then waited seemingly forever while the server just disappeared. Â I'll try Yvonne's again and hope I can improve this score. Â Maybe I've just had unlucky recent experiences, but a pattern is forming that I hope this place can shake!
Review Source:let me start with breakfast, you'll have a hard time finishing their omelets. They are huge and they use fresh ingredients. Even the other dishes for breakfast are worth your money. the pancakes are more then enough to have you skip lunch. The coffee leaves something to be desired but it's hot and passable.
They have a Thursday Pasta night special during the winter and the last time I went there I had seafood fra diablo that was outfriggin standing, some bread to sop up the leftover juice would have been nice, but my bad for not asking.
As for the gentleman who complained about the flies, well welcome to the Jersey Shore and as far as it's cleanliness I have never encountered anything that would set off any alarms ( and I work for the MC Health Dept ).
The service is great, these college/local shore kids hussle as quick as the chef can cook, maybe it's the negative attitude they get from the transplants that come and invade our beaches. You want generic food, Â drive out of town and go to Perkins and then get on the parkway when you're done...
Great little find on my weekend during Bridgefest. Â I had the tropical wrap which was grilled tilapia, pineapple, black beans and veggies. Â Fresh lemonade, which was not too sweet. Â Most places double up on the sugar, and I'm glad they don't. Â Service was courteous. Â Indoor and outdoor seating available.
Review Source:It has nice atmosphere, especially on the street. (Actually it's a bit loud inside when crowded.) The food was mostly pretty good, but there were a few problems. We ate there three times, breakfast, lunch and dinner (not all on the same day!) Â First there was dinner with a large family group, and they were very accommodating, moving tables around for us. We shared a crab cake entree and arugula salad. The crab cakes were quite good, and salad itself was large and also good. But the citrus dressing was far too tart/acidic, and made it difficult to eat. Then we had breakfast. Blueberry pancakes were plate sized and delicious. (wish they had real maple syrup though). Scrambled eggs would be best described as thinly fried and diced, and not to my liking. Belgian waffles were whole wheat, and delicious. Accompanying fruit was a bit odd, watermelon, and pineapple, which to my mind doesn't really go, but i just pushed them off and ate them separately. It took a while to get decaf, it seems that people don't order it much around here. Service was mostly fine, a few little hiccups, like it being hard to get waiters attention a few times.
Then we had a lunch, two salads. Mostly good, satisfying our need for veggies, but overall a bit pedestrian. Some of the leafy greens were past there prime - actually a bit slimy. It would have been nice to have actual greek olives in the "Greek" salad, rather then canned black. And where were the onions?
One last negative. On the first night a waiter spilled salad dressing on me, and at breakfast another waiter was dropping silverware left and right. But i guess that's par for teenage summer waiters in a resort town.
I did like the Betty Boop tattoo one waitress had on her ankle. ;-)
