Zuki continues to impress! I'm incredibly happy with the quality of sushi and their menu items have always been good. I will say that they're a bit pricey for what I'm used to; having said that, it's still worth coming to since there are few good sushi places in SoIN! Â I would highly recommend visiting if you're in the area! Great staff and great service as well!
Review Source:Welcome. Â So if you haven't read my review on Nagasaki and you are trying to decide between there and someone else, check it out. Â Don't go there until after you read the review.
Now for Zuki
After an unpleasant experience at another sushi place (you figure it out) I settled on Zuki. Â Close to my hotel and good reviews.
Greeted at the door with a big smile. Â Fairly busy as they were seating a large group ahead of me. Â I'm flying solo and wanted sushi so I sat at the bar.
Waitress was very friendly and offered to help. Â I already had my mind made up and got the sushi dinner.
Miso soup was very good. Â Hot and tasty. Â The house salad was good but was pretty wet.
The sushi was very good. Â Fresh, nicely made and presented. Â The dinner had seven pieces of nigiri and a california roll.
There was a piece of sushi I didn't recognize and asked the chef, who was very nice what it was. Â Turns out it was squid. Â NP, first time for everything. Â Not my piece of sushi as it were, but everyone is different. Â
Ordered a few more pieces and some Flying Fish Roe, fresh and crunchy.
Before I left the sushi chef asked how everything was and even asked if I liked the sushi. Â I guess the face I made said it all because he got a good laugh.
So if you're in Evansville looking for sushi, Zuki is the place to go.
Great service, wonderful atmosphere, and good food.
Found this place through yelp. This resaurant was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It has hibachi (or tappenyaki), a sushi bar, and tables as well.
There was live music when we went (on a Wednesday night). That's actually pretty cool if you ask me. The waitress was very nice and attentive.
I ordered the Thai roll, the fried lobster roll, and the sunomono. The rolls were good, but the sunomono sucked. It consisted of pieces of cucumber and a lilttle bit of shredded crab. The sauce was bitter andd little in amount. I would skip it.
Prices are average prices I would see in another sushi place. 9-13 dollars for roll.
The rolls are all beautifully made and constructed. They look very legit. The hibachi was also very popular from what I saw. Two tables full of people.
We also found the best Moscato wine there. Ruffino moscato. Yummy.
I think the food is average here....but my niece and nephew love it when we come here, so I really want to give it 3.5 stars. Â One thing was sort of strange, my sister had a 10% off coupon and went she went to use it, they told her it was only good for 10% off "one" entree, not the entire food bill. Â Now that is a little odd....
Review Source:Maybe we caught them during a bad time but the overall experience was poor. We were seated quickly but it took forever for the waiter to over. Once we ordered it took forever to get our meal. We ordered a couple of rolls and two bowls tempura udon. We received our udon first then our rolls. The food was ok but not great. Â There are better japanese restaurants in Evansville.
Review Source:I was seriously not impressed with the food here, or the service. Â My mistake was coming here after going to Nagasaki Inn. Â Nagasaki pretty much sets the standard for the best sushi and Japanese cuisine available in the area, and Zuki fails. Â
Once again for people that keep calling this place Hibachi. Â Hibachi is a style of grilling. Â This place is Teppanyaki, which is frying on a flat surface. Â Frying and grilling are not the same thing, and produce very different flavors. Â Pan fried steak is not the same as grilled steak. Â For those that cannot tell the difference, you are the sucker.
Keep in mind that Evansville still has not heard of Froyo, Bubble Tea, dim sum, and I was not in the area long enough to try to find decent Chinese or Korean food (if any). My parents wanted to take my husband and I out for dinner in Evansville, Indiana. Â We arrived here on a Wednesday night, they were packed, and I do not understand why. Â After reading so many great reviews, I was being optimistic. Â The sushi chefs were speaking Spanish and Tagalog, which threw me off, since I was wishing for Japanese quality standards. Â But, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Â
I was surprised to see that they were offering yakatori, so we ordered a couple of skewers. Â After they arrived we saw that it was the same as their teppanyaki meat, even with the ketchup sauce on top. Â Not yakatori style at all. Â
The sushi items were not fresh, so I did not even eat all of my rolls. Â The fish was disgusting, but I did not want to cause any problems because it is obviously chaos in the kitchen here. Â The California Roll that my father ordered was falling apart. Â My Zuki Roll was bland and squishy, so was the spicy tuna roll. Â Luckily we did not get sick.
We ordered Vegetable Tempura Dinner to go along with our sushi selections- ended up with a shrimp tempura appetizer that we tried to turn away. Â Then, they brought us veggie fried rice, which we did not order either, we tried to turn it away. Â My Mom is vegetarian, and you can taste the meat flavor in the rice here. Â Then, we finally received the vegetable tempura, but it was the appetizer portion. Â However, the waitress gave us the fried rice and shrimp tempura appetizer for free, because she did not want to return it to the kitchen and get yelled at. Â This happened to us frequently in Evansville, where servers try to give us other tables food or additional dishes that we did not order. Must be regular practice.
My co-workers and I went out to this sushi place and got a sushi boat. Â Sushi was good for Evansville, IN. Â I ate so much food and got so stuffed off the sushi. Â I didn't really care for the miso soup or salad, but the sushi surpassed my expectations for Evansville. Â So don't expect the greatest sushi when you dine at Zuki, but if you have a sushi craving in Evansville, IN, then I suggest you go to Zuki.
Review Source:We all enjoyed our meals. The favorites at our table were the pot stickers, the Fire Scallops (spicy scallops with shredded crab) and the Thai roll (shrimp and avocado topped with crab). The other rolls we shared were good but I can't remember their names.
The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere nice.
I'll have to go back and try the hibachi and yakitori.
I love this place there arent alot of sushi places in evansville but this place is awsome some of the best sushi i have had (in evansville) a few of my favorite were the dragon roll the zuki roll lobster roll and a few others but thos are my top they have a good hibachi but i always choose sushi over that and they have awsome lunches to you can get hibachi bento or bento that you get to choose out of all of the rolls on the menu! un like nagasaki they only alow you to choose from 5 rolls for the bento so if you want a good sushi meal in a place with great sevice and people this is the place to go one of my favorite places in evansville :)
Review Source:Very similar to Nagasaki Inn IMHO. Â The prices seemed a little lower. Â Our group of 5 went on a Wednesday evening and ate on the hibachi side. Â We were seated promptly and the service was quick. Â I ordered the shrmip & scallops. Â Portions are large, food is tasty. Â Our view of Office Max wasn't inspired but the interior decor is tasteful.
Review Source:I drove 3 hours from St. Louis to sample Zuki.
Ok, not really, but it was a pleasant meal at the end of a 3 hour drive.
Ordered 3 rolls -- Jane, ZigZag, and Halloween -- and a sashimi dinner. The dinner came with soup and a salad for one person. My girlfriend didn't want to be "that salad girl" so she picked the soup and I got the salad. The salad dressing was one of the best I've ever had at a Japanese restaurant. It was miso-y and somewhat sweet, like a delicious combination of honey mustard and Italian and miso. The soup was fairly standard and a bit salty.
The rolls were good and didn't have too much rice. My favorite roll was the Halloween: some sort of tuna and avocado thing. Next was the Jane: salmon and avocado and some crunchies maybe? Our waitress said the roll was "interesting." I'd say it's interesting too, in a good way. The third place roll was the ZigZag -- not that it was horrible, just that it wasn't as good as the other two. It also had crunchies.
I wanted to order sashimi so I could rate the fish quality. The dinner came with about 15 pieces of about 5 different fish and seafood. There was no fishy taste to the fish and it wasn't served too cold or warm. Presentation of the fish and rolls were very simple and elegant. Rolls were around $11 each and the sashimi dinner was $19, IIRC.
The decor is what one might term "upscale modern Japanese." The restaurant is replete with waterfalls and a nice color scheme. It is divided into a hibachi area and a general seating area for sushi-only orders. I didn't try the hibachi but I saw the usual tricks like the onion volcano and the knife flips, and really you have to put in effort to make a bad hibachi.
Zuki deserves a visit if you are looking for great sushi and sashimi. I hear the selection of Japanese restaurants is rather limited in Evansville, and if that is the case, you'll find a comforting choice in Zuki.
Remember when everyone gushed over Nagasaki in Evansville? Well now their great chef is at Zuki.
The decor at Zuki is great! It is very zen outside of the tv's on ESPN. But in Evansville you have to appease all the crowds. Dark woods and reds gave Zuki a great feel.
I was there for lunch on a Saturday ...
The service was spot on. The older couple near us was complaining about slow service but their waiter was very apologetic, and seemed sincere.
I had the Dragon Scale Lunch Box. The soup was ok, nothing spectacular, but definitely not bad. The meal really shined when the "box" showed up at my table. The lettuce and dressing was tasty. The sushi roll with avacado was flavorful and had great texture. What really got me were the egg rolls and fried bananas. I don't like either at other restaurants, but both were wonderful here. I've only been to a few sushi places, but this one is at the top of my list.
I can't comment on the Hibachi Grill
