My husband & I have been here a few times  since it changed names & the menu and the first time we were very optimistic.  We had the calamari which tasted fresh and was crisp but bland.  We had the 151 burger, which was delicious & juicy.  Second time we had the burger again & it was still good and the grilled chicken sandwich which tasted like it had been frozen and then boiled.  The texture was strange.  This last time (and final time) I had the veggie burger, which was homemade.  I was so excited since I LOVE veggie burgers and you rarely get them homemade but as soon as the plate was put in front of me all  I could smell was cumin.  It was overwhelming.  I took (literally) 2 bites but could not eat it.  I hate to say it but it was disgusting - flat out disgusting and mushy.  I felt terrible but told the waitress even though she didn't inquire as to why I left the whole burger and didn't want it wrapped.  Now, I understand that restaurants can not take off every meal that a customer is dissatisfied with but when you have a returning customer (the waitress made it a point to ask if we had been there before) who has left their entire meal and the waitress tells you that they welcome the criticism I would think that you would do something to rectify the situation.  Sad to say that we will not be giving this restaurant the benefit of the doubt this time around.  Had the situation worked out differently we would have gone back since it is right around the corner from where we live and the burger was good.  We have seen so many restaurants come & go here.  I hope one day someone gets it right because I don't think this one will be staying.
Review Source:So they renamed the restaurant "Anthonys 151" as per the overwhelming request from diners to change their menu. This is a perfect example of how not to do business. The food has unfortunately gone waaay down, and that awesome pulled pork sandwich I loved so much...gone.
An attempt at a more sophisticated menu was not the issue, after all I literally squealed when I saw pork belly on the menu. However the goal is to land the ball so to speak, and sorry folks but you were way off. Bland bland bland, and when not, incredibly over salted. The risotto was a disgrace, overcooked would have been an improvement, this went beyond. The pork shank...meh, the pork belly...nope, even the mashed potatoes were bland. Short ribs sat in a watery sauce, instead of a glaze or demi as one would expect. My husband got the burger, and for gods sake how do you screw that up, so if its bar fair your after, then all I can recommend is the burger. So sad to see this place crash so hard but, I hate to say, they most definitely did.
So I went there the other night for drinks with a friends because we didn't feel like dealing with any of the normal Mahopac bars, but we did wind up getting an appetizer to go with our beer. Â The guy at the bar was SUPER friendly and very knowledgeable about the different beers he had on tap (this is so important to me). Â I would give four stars just for the beer knowledge, honestly. Â We got hot wings, which were pretty decent, but otherwise I can't comment on the food. Â
Basically I just enjoyed the friendly staff, the beer, and the fact that they didn't kick us out until we'd finished our drinks, even though I'm pretty sure we were there past closing.  If you can find this place (it's set back from the road) it's worth a  visit, but I can't say how the food compares to Holy Smoke, which is not too far away.
Gross, gross, gross. I don't understand the hype. All of their food is frozen and nuked, even their fried pickles, which anyone can make from scratch. My boyfriend's chicken pot pie was bizarre - it was watery chicken soup with a blob of dough on top. My burger was completely dry even though I asked for medium rare. We were practically the only ones there but we were essentially ignored by the waiters. We had to wave our arms around just to get a glass of water.
We should've gone to Holy Smoke.
Deep fried food, Y U NO let me give fair review. But seriously, I'm a sucker for deep fried food.
Parking was easy and we sat right away.
Waitress was nice but kind of a ditz. For some reason I'm much more lenient on young and ditzy rather than old and dumb. :-P
I'm not sure weather it was the lighting or the table (we were int he corner) but i felt really comfortable here. It wasn't loud and i love placed with carpet rather then concrete or tile floor.
Appetizer: everything was deep fried. Ribs, pickles, cream corn balls (I think) and mac n cheese. Don't get me wrong, it was good but I feel theirs some 'lazy' factor with tossing everything in batter an hot oil.
Dinner was fish n chips, I split half with another person who got the pulled pork. Fish n chips was good, nothing crazy. The pulled pork was dry, we loaded it up with BBQ sauce and it was a bit better.
I'd try it again just to see if their was something i missed.
This review is for the Brewster, Clock Tower commons location:
Guys! Get it on the map, or else no one will find you!! The food and restaurant are great but the recessed location buried in the back of an office park is easy to miss!
Anyway we had a great experience there. It was a weekday night and we showed up for an early dinner with 4 grandparents, 2 adults, a 6 year old and a 1 year old. There was something for everyone, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had a beer at the bar before we sat down. Great craft beer selection and a very knowledgable barmaid. She knew her beers!
We sat outside - it was one of the freaky warm March evenings. Very pleasant environment. Thought the food was superb. Excellent brisket, the wife got this scrumptious chipotle mac and cheese- yum. The burgers are served on a pretzel bun, which was fresh and slightly toasted. There's an extensive menu. Can't wait to try some of the other entrees!!
Hey there's not a lot of health-conscious items on the menu, but hey this is BBQ!! They do have a nice sized salad bar with lots of fresh veggies and such which is complimentary with most of the entrees.
The only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars was because there were a ton of old rusty screws on the ground in the outdoor seating area, and my curious one year old picked one up and almost swallowed it. Thank god we were paying attention! Anyway clean up that stuff guys. The reno is over, and outdoor eating, and flip flop weather is around the corner. Let's avoid giving the guests tetanus or worse!!
Anyway keep up the good work, we will be back!!
Went there for the first time on a Sunday night. We were a party of 8 and tried to sample a few different things. The wings were very good as was the salad bar.
Overall, the bbq was good not great. If you order the entrees the meal can get expensive. If you stick with the burgers and sandwiches then the price is fair and the portions large. Chipotle mac aand cheese and the creamed spinach make nice sides.
We tried this place because Holy Smoke was closed for the week and thought it was a good opportunity to try another BBQ place.
The place is very bright, roomy, and well laid out. They easily accommodated our party of 10, 6 of which were kids aged 5-13.
The restaurant was almost full at 5:30 on a Sunday night.
Nice selection of bottled and tap beer, and they will sell you a growler of anything on tap for $12 plus $2 deposit on the bottle if you need one.
We tried the BBQ wings and fried ribs for appetizers. The wings were a bit on the small side and had a lot of sauce on them. I did not taste those.
The fried ribs were unbelievable- baby back smoked ribs, dipped in a light batter, and deep fried. I took one bite and the meat literally fell off the bone. I added a drop of BBQ sauce and that really set them off. I was really psyched for my meal now!
My dinner included the salad bar which is nothing special.
Iceberg lettuce, mixed greens, standard veggies such as carrots, cukes, black eyed peas, chick peas, onions, corn, peas, etc. A nice choice of dressings, maybe 9, as well as croutons. Everything was fresh and crisp.
Now the bad news- the entrees.
2 kids ordered wings as their meal and that was fine, they came out as ordered.
4 other kids ordered burgers. One came out missing the cheese, and all 4 were not cooked as ordered. They were all well done. We sent one back and it came back just a drop less grey but still far from medium-rare.
2 others ordered bowls of chili which were kind of small considering they have cup and bowl sizes on the menu. The cup must be literally 1 cup.
I ordered the pulled pork. First thing I thought was the portion of meat was rather small on the plate. It also came with 2 sides and cornbread. The tater tots could have been cooked longer as I like them crispy. The chipotle mac & cheese was delicious- creamy and a nice kick.
The pulled pork was greasy and had NO flavor whatsoever. It should have been at least smoky with some seasoning but it was completely bland, and I am guessing here, but possibly even artificial smoke flavor added.
I added BBQ sauce to it but still the flavor was wrong. I barely ate any of it.
The other guy who ordered the pulled pork wasn't as critical as me but agreed it was a far cry from Holy Smoke's pulled pork.
The service was a tad slow but only because we had 6 kids with us, so we skipped dessert. The waitress who was a bit inattentive the whole meal finally brought us the bill and charged us for 4 adult burgers with drinks on the side rather than 4 kids meals which include drinks. When we pointed it out to the manager, he thought removing the side drinks would be OK.
No that was not OK because the adult burgers were still more than a kids meal, so he had to adjust it again.
I don't see us ever going back to this place which is a shame, because there is always room for more than one good BBQ joint in town. Unfortunately this one won't be it. We will stick to Holy Smoke.
This is my new favorite barbeque place. They have a great salad bar that comes with your meal. They have all of the classic menu items with amazing sides. The sweet potato tatter tots are great along with baked beans. The pulled chicken has great flavor. It is a nice looking, big restaurant. Great food that will keep you full and satisfied.
