Just based on the service and the awesome burger I got here, I'd have to say that this place is great. If I had a complaint at all I'd just like to say that there are too many items to choose from on the menu. I'd cut it in half. Fries were above average, and I can't say enough about the service. If you've never been here, give it a try.
Review Source:I've had nothing but positive experiences eating here. This local chain doesn't feel franchised - it's interior is unique to our neighborhood and VERY fun novelties, much like Applebee's. The staff are friendly, there is always plenty of parking and ample in and outdoor seating. But the best part - the UNENDING menu. And corresponding Happy Hour and Specials!
I've eaten a new vegetarian dish every time I've been here - including full-blown entrees, not just appetizers... Veggie burger is tops; salads can all be made veggie-friendly; veggie pastas and wraps, and even a purely vegetarian soup. And there are the plethora of appetizers - nachos, fried things, etc. And the desserts! Though I prefer their French Fries for dessert - delicious. OOOOh, wait - I almost forgot about their gratis bread. OMG.
I like this place because it caters to large groups or even a few people, though is always hoppin'. The food is always fulfilling, the prices are right, the service is thoughtful. Me likie.
Are you ready for Happy Hour? Â 54th Street Grill is a fun time for Happy Hour. Â The drinks are well priced and the place is always packed during Happy Hour. Â Unfortunately, the Happy Hour is the best part of this place; the best tasting food at this place is all fried. Â I really enjoy the Tequila Wrappers and the Baja Bites, but my arteries are not fans. Â There is much better food in town, which is why I only gave them three stars.
Review Source:After visiting this place again, I want to bump up my review from 3.5 to a sold 4 stars. For just drinks, I would still rather hit up one of the more traditional bars in downtown LS; however, for a bit of food with your beverage, this place is a solid.
Part of the reason I want to update my review is the service...must say that on my most recent trip, I had some of the best service of my life...anywhere, any type of establishment. This guy (wish I knew his name) brought it - he was awesome. I had a burger and it was quite tasty, as were the fries. Drinks were kept flowing (non-alcoholic...the refills were speedy as heck), and it was all really quite affordable. The menu is pretty big and it often takes me a while to figure out what I want.
Solid establishment - kind of a mix between bar and family eatery (so don't hesitate to bring the kiddos...just keep them quiet around me), and pretty decent happy hour specials from the look of it (both on food and 'cohol). That being said, I saw a pretty decent wait in the lobby at about 6:30pm on a Wednesday...wow.
Good happy hour specials in the afternoon. Also, an after 10pm happy hour that I've been known to partake of in the summer after a rousing line of bowling at the now-closed Strike and Spare bowling alley. What can I say, I like to party. Your harsh judgment of my lifestyle will be ignored.
The appetizer I usually get is called Fry Me to the Moon. I wish I could tell you exactly what was on the platter of mixed items from the fry chef, but one does well to immediately forget eating this. The Fry part of this item's name is self explanatory, and I can only assume by "to the Moon" they mean "to an early grave." Will I order it again: yes. Will I curl up in the corner and cry tears of 100% acid reflux afterwards: indeed. It's all part of the experience.
Ok, so deep down in the depths of your soul, you know you have that one chain restaurant that you really secretly love. You don't like to admit it, or even bring it up in conversation for fear of being ostracized, but deep down your mouth is watering over their chainy food, and you're craving some corporate cuisine. Don't lie--I know your secrets. We've all been there my friend.
So the cat's out of the bag. I LOVE THIS CHAIN. Judge away.
I ate at 54th Street 3 times last week. I could eat at 54th Street 20 times in one week. No, make that 100 times.
Although the service isn't always outstanding, I think the food really lives above and beyond being labeled as "chain food". 54th Street started off as a local Kansas City joint back in 1990, and with the help of serving up some delicious entrees that caught the general publics attention, they now have at least 10 locations within the Kansas City area and then some. (i.e. they even stretch out to the St. Louis suburbs)
And while my previous posting does state the obvious--there are many more local businesses in the way of food, that serve better dishes--54th is about as good as it gets for a chain. For example, their Gringo Dip and Chips. I bet I could conduct a Kansas City wide census over the best chain cheese dip, and hands down 54th Street would hold the honor. It IS something to rave about. I can't fathom how anyone could not like their Gringo Dip. If you don't like it, we can't be friends.
Last time I ventured outside the standard fare of just simply ordering Gringo Dip as my meal, and I opted for their Buffalo Chicken Salad. Wow folks, it's out of this world. Crisp lettuce, bleu cheese dressing AND bleu cheese crumbs, tortilla strips, chicken soaked in spicy buffalo sauce, and much more. I mean really, does life get much better then that? And it's massive in size too. One salad could feed a family of 4. And call me stupid, but I honestly think that at 54th Street, they sincerely take the time to prepare every meal with quality. The bread they serve you with each entree is warm and soft to the touch everytime I go. Their honey butter is the best around, and quite frankly, if you ask my warped, chain loving self, I'd say that their meals are mainly cooked from scratch. Who knows though. I might just be completely brain washed from all the Gringo Dip.
Anyhoo, if you're brave enough to pull out your inner chain-lovin', chain-supporting self, go to 54th Street. Skip Applebee's--now THAT is a chain--and head on over to your neighborhood 54th Street. While other competitors such as Chili's or the disgrace of a restaurant Applebee's, serve nothing but flash fried microwavable meals, 54th Street standards are noticeably higher.
I love 54th Street... But my lastest expirence... was not so good.
I ordered ribs 'to go' once I began eating them, I noticed a little thin white hairs as I pull the ribs apart. Â One- ehh, I don't mind, two, three, ten. Â Gross. Â They were in the sauce. Â So for the first time in my life, I called them to 'complain'. Â I wasn't mad, I just kind of wanted some sort of refund since they were like 15 bucks. Â The manager on duty got my address and said they would sent me something in the mail, but it has been 3 weeks and nothing has come.
So I guess maybe my complaint isn't so much of the place itself-- maybe just the fact of the manager on duty. Â If you tell me you will send me a gift card for the ribs, then do it. Â Don't lie to me. Â I am bummed because I enjoy eating there.
It has much more character than an Applebees, but isn't by any stretch a neighborhood joint. Â With several locations, you know what you're getting throughout the metro after on visit. Â Decent pricing, but nothing to yelp about there. Â covered porch with outside bar for the smoking set is vital in the smoke free metro of today.
