One of my favorite spots to visit in DTSJ. Super chill crowd and tasty drinks. I also like how they don't bump the music, so you can actually have a conversation with your friends. Staff is very welcoming and friendly as well.

Prolly one of my favorite places to come kick in dtsj. You can chill at the bar or grab a seat and lounge it. Staff is nice and drinks are good. They also have a pretty good selection o craft beer. Its $10 for a cocktail and I think bout $8 for a shot.

I like the crowd there and it has a really great vibe. Btw, you can also table it and jus strait up get a bottle tho i dont know the prices for one.

My only gripe is that it does tend to get busy on weekends so be prepared to fight ur way to the bar, and once u get there be prepared to wait a lil longer to get ur drank. Otherwise the spot is crackin n its a good place to chill.

Wen't here a couple weeks ago with boyfriend and friends. We came early enough to grab a nice table. It gets packed very quickly and it gets pretty loud.

They have a handful of specialty cocktail drinks and even ones not listed on the menu, so you should ask the bartenders what they recommend. They also make many of the classic drinks like the old fashioned, and moscow mule, both of which were delicious, especially the mule which was refreshing!

I love mojitos, so I asked the bartender which flavors he had. The make an amazing coffee mojito which sounds pretty iffy but was absolutely delicious and refreshing. I ordered two :)

I would definitely come back, just for the mojito!

Very chill atmosphere, music not too loud, long company bench seating for everyone to sit on, not too dark, and everything is just right!

The bartenders and waitress staff were all super nice, friendly, and attentive.

I had the rum fire, tasted like horchata, but better! so good, it'll make u want to write y'all ese!

Nice lounge, young crowd, great drinks!  Moscow Mule was fantastic and came in a special cup, which kept it cold.

This is the place to be before and after you go out to a venue on the weekends.

Bryan is the best bartender! Go ask for him if he happens to work when you're there. He's super friendly and his drinks are always consistent. Even when it's super busy, he took his time to ask me what concoction I'd like for my drink.

I was able to try the rum-chata that everyone's raving about made by the amazing Paul! I was probably Mexican in my past life, but I love

I just wish this place had at least two stalls for the restroom, so girls can go inside and wait instead of waiting awkwardly in the bar where people continuously walk by. And it'll also help with the smell... I've been here a few times and it always smells pretty bad around the restroom area.

Not sure why everyone considers this a speakeasy, it's just a lounge. The drinks here are good, but more on the sweeter side. I would recommend the Bramble, Peach Martini (Don't worry, it not strong like a martini), and Moscow Mule. I like how they serve the Moscow Mule in a copper tin cup, which is how it's suppose to be served, but most places don't do that. Come here early to get a table. Waitress service is also good, no matter how crowded the place gets, she always came to check on us. Also, this place used to be a wine bar, so they still have all the machines that decant the wines. My friends ordered a few wines here and they were all pretty good as well. Definitely come here if you're looking for decent cocktails and wines.

The place has a chill unique rustic lounge, incredibly friendly staff, high quality beverages that the head bartender/ Owner Eric takes the craft of cocktails to a whole new level!
The eclectic vibe has taken San Jose by storm, I immediately fell in love and can not wait to be back...

This is one of the VERY FEW places in the area that can make an Old Fashioned!!! I try to get drinks like that anywhere else and no one knows what it is. 55 South has REAL bartenders that know their stuff.
There was even live music that was excellent and really kicked up the ambiance.
The bartender Mary (nose stud, dark hair) is SO FRIENDLY and an amazing bartender. She made us feel right at home and explained several drinks and answered all our questions and suggested drinks to us based on our preferences. She definitely made the experience for us here at 55 South wonderful. Will definitely come back here just to get her excellent service again.

5 star for a hang out place. is it a lounge, is a speakeasy, is a flying plane, no its superman.
the cocktails and the decor is nice. I got the State of the Nation drink. It had the opposite effect, I sure stopped me from thinking about the state of the nation.
The place got real full, so I think the key is to get here early, have some fun, then head out when the crowds hit it.

I feel like 55 South has a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a speakeasy? Is it a lounge? Or is it an ASIAN lounge (aka Vietnamese quan nhau)?

The only thing speakeasy about this place is the cocktails and maybe its decor. But the experience is nothing like Singlebarrel so people really need to stop comparing the two. 55 South is loud and crowded, at least for weekend nights. And while the place was filled to the point where people were spilling into the streets, at least 3 tables were empty but no one was allowed to sit there since it was reserved for the owner's friends. -_-

Now why does it feel like I'm at a Vietnamese quan nhau? Because the night I was there, a very large group of Asian guys (most with plaid shirts, baseball caps, and mustaches, some also had ponytails LOL) had taken over half the tables on one whole side of the place. Bottles and bottles of Remy. Shot after shot. I'm glad they had a great time, but you wouldn't see things like this if it were truly a speakeasy.

The drinks are also terribly inconsistent. I had 3 State of Graces and it tasted different each time. It went from strong, to sweet, to very tart. My Moscow Mule tasted a lot like a lemonade even though one of the guys assured me it was among the stronger cocktails they serve.

I don't know how I feel about 55 South. I don't love it, but I'd rather go here than Loft, SJ Bar and Grill, etc. I was going to give this place only 3 stars since it's ok but doesn't really impress. Good concept, but poor execution...for now. I'm bumping it up to 4 stars for one reason only: our waitress Nico. She is by far the hardest working waitress I've ever seen in DTSJ! 55 South was filled to what I can only imagine to be over capacity. There was NO walking space, bartenders couldn't make drinks fast enough (which is prob why the taste was compromised and so inconsistent), and large groups were getting pretty rowdy. But she remained extremely friendly, apologized for how long it took to get our drinks, brought us water in the meantime, and she even got down on the floor and put a coaster under one of our table legs bc she noticed it was wobbly. All this while the place was chaos! Nico, you are amazing!

I'd come back, but maybe even earlier next time. Or on a night when the owner isn't saving all the tables to entertain his own friends.

An awesome place to hang out, 55 South offers a chill vibe and stiff cocktails. Top it off with some wonderful company, and you're set.

Arriving before the rest of the crowd, we were welcomed by a sweet lounge area with cushy seats and tables set with glowing candles. The beautiful decor helped to further set the mood. Bring on the drinks!

My favorite cocktail, the **State of Grace**, features muddled fresh raspberries. Apparently one of the owners developed this drink for his friend Grace to cheer her up after she had a bad day. It definitely cheered me up! The fresh raspberry shone through and gave the drink just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering it. They offer a wide array of cocktails, including classics like the Old Fashioned.

This place is SO chill that they even let Janice C bring in those delicious duck fat fries, which made me even happier. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that the Duke Michael L. was there. In any case, our tummies approve and so do I!

TIP: Get there early to beat the rush, so you can grab a table in the lounge section.

MUSING: Not sure why people call this a speakeasy and compare it to singlebarrel, because the two places are nothing alike. It gets pretty darn loud here, and no one shushes you.

DATE TIP: Oh yeah! Do I need to remind you of the stiff cocktails?

In the hustle and bustle of DTSJ, it is a given that the #1 business to have in this area is an establishment that serves alcohol. 55 South is a super chill spot that caters to all sorts of people. The bartenders and owner are awesome people to talk to. Every time I've been in there, I have always had an amazing time and have met awesomely nice people. My favorite drink from this spot is their Moscow Mule, because it is super refreshing and that ginger beer adds a little somethin' somethin' to it. Even though that one huge bouncer was disrespectful to my man for trying to clean our table (wtf), I can look passed that and just mean mug him every time I go in and keep on having a good time. If the awesome staff across the way at Original Gravity come here to kick it after they close, then you know 55 South is the place to be.

55 South stacks up in some neo-San Jose sort of way.

The decor is pseudo restoration hardware. Like a painting, it looks better from far away. The drink list and preparation is on point. The beverage presentation is near perfect. The live entertainment is not bad, and somewhat refreshing! The bartenders are okay! The bouncers outside are rude, and feel out of place.

The location is central. The space and bathrooms are clean, for a bar. The lighting and sound levels are matched appropriately, which is something that some bars just can't get right. And, the crowd is mid-twenties to late-thirties, and somewhat homogenous; I'll let you be the judge.

So what's keeping this place from five-star-glory? Consistency could make this place great, and perhaps it's missing a firm hand or eye. Details matter, especially at a bar like this one. If you're going to charge $13 for a glass of wine, I should feel better than average. You just made me feel average.

It's always nice to see a clean, craftsman-like establishment. Although, it could be in better shape, and I don't praise mediocrity :/

Tip: As another Yelper mentioned, try the Moscow Mule, or my preference, one of the Pinot Noirs.

I love this place like a fat kid loves going to McDonalds everyday and ordering everything on their menu!!!  I love everything about this place! Everything from the seating, to the drinks, to the decor is so classy that I never wanted to leave this amazing place.

The Moscow Mule is made to perfection!! I love this drink and no other place had made it right on the money, until I met the bartenders here at 55! If you ever come, be sure to also try out the Cinnamon Toast Crunch!! DELICIOUS!! This drink will make you think that you're getting your breakfast on and you'll most likely find yourself asking for some pancakes and eggs!!!

I can't wait to come back and have another great night here at this bar!

lucky for 55 south there's no negative star.  (1)The waiter didn't even check on us. Youre not just paying for the drinks but also the paying for the experiences. (2)she didn't give us our card back that was held for our open tap after we had paid. (3) the manager, Paul chunn didn't know how to solve the situation, so he told us to leave. He didn't try to make us happy or hear our side of the story or make us feel like he care that his waiter messed up. This place stuck!!!  Paul, go back to training. You have a bad tempter and need to learn how to accommodate your guests when you are in the wrong.

I fell head over heels in love as soon as I walked into this bar. They were playing my favorite song ("Polish Girl" - Neon Indian) and continued to have an incredible playlist. It's so much bigger than I expected, with a great layout and so much seating at both the bar and at intimate lounge chairs. I can see this being great for a date, for a few friends, or even a large party group.

Not only do they know how to make a Bramble, it's on the menu! One of the bartenders was making freshly squeezed juice for their other craft cocktails ($10 each). They have the most expansive scotch list of any bar within 15 miles, an I'm going to be back to try them all. The bartender Link (?) kindly gave me a few cocktail ideas, and was a total gentleman about introducing himself and patiently answering all of our questions. He told us there are 32 wines on tap - and plenty of desserts to pair with them!

If you're coming into this for the "speakeasy" trend, you're not going to get that, but that's why I love it. Singlebarrel's drinks are contrived, and what little buzz you get off of them is quickly shushed into submission. 55 South is a lively, good time!

As I get older i tend to get a little bit more picky when it comes to night life outings. I going to places where there is a line to get in or wait long at the bar. I hate it when people stand around and not leave a pathway to walk through. I realize that no good place is like this. That brings us to 55 South.

I came here at 7:30 to avoid the lovely settings i just explained. The ambiance was nice, no house music - just light chit chatter about non sense. I seen small groups pre gaming before painting the town red.

Im trying to be a wine snob, so i ordered a pretty heavy Cabernet while every one else order the cock tail special - Moscow Mule. I must say that it was really refreshing. It was light and crisp and it had the smell of ginger. Highly recommend it.

I also ordered the bread pudding. This was really good. it is served warm made with bourbon.  one of the best ive tasted.

I'm sure this place gets packed way past its capacity later in the night. I recommned this place if you come before 10 and chill with some friends over some cocktails and dessert!

Over all it was a good experience. I like the vibe of the place. Bartenders were awesome but unfortunately or waitress was a really bad and when a friend of mine called her out on it we got kicked probably won't go here again.

PS who ever said this is a new "speak easy" doesn't know what a speak easy bar is cause this definitely is not.

The owner let me bring my duck fat fries to the bar which made this girl very, very happy.

My deep fried potatoes sprinkled with just enough truffle salt: the smell permeating the whole atmosphere and every body getting jealous of me popping hot fries in my mouth.

Oh wait? This is a review of the bar not my fries.

Thanks to duke Michael L's multiple check ins here, I've made a pact with myself that I HAVE to go to 55 South when I'm in San Jose. I don't go out of the city often but when I do, I make sure there's (quality) alcohol involved.

The cocktail menu looks exciting, with a good mix of fruity cocktails and classic ones. Since I was already drinking at San Pedro Market Square, I only had two cocktails here. The Bramble is heavy on the gin, usually my preference in my drinks but it was too strong that it overpowered the delicate blackberries. The 5575 was more to my liking with gin, fresh lemon juice, sparkling wine and ginger beer, a very nice variation to the classic French 75!

55 South succeeds at the beautiful decor and a relaxed lounge-y feel that singlebarrel failed to achieve.  This will be my new spot for cocktails next time I'm in Man Jose!

I'm still not too sure how I feel about this place.

What I AM sure about is that everyone needs to stop calling this venue a speakeasy because it is most definitely not. I guess since they serve some of the same cocktails as SingleBarrel, then it is the same thing? Nope.

This place is OK. The first time I came here, I liked it cos we came on a weekday and it wasn't too busy since it just opened and we managed to get a seat/table. They have a large whisky selection which I like, and their drinks are decent. The new few times after... not too much a fan. It can get really crowded, so there's nowhere to sit and can be awhile until you get a drink. Nothing surprising really for a place in SJ...

For all the reasons everyone brings up why they like 55 south better than SB, are the reasons why I DON'T like 55 south. Sure there's no wait and no line... but there is no where to sit inside! Not only is it packed, loud and crowded.. their drinks are inconsistent. If you go on a non-busy day... your old fashioned will come with an ice ball. Come on a busy day, and you just get ice cubes. If I go to SB, I know for sure, 100% of my Old Fashioneds will have an ice sphere. This is exactly why I love it there.

This is still their soft opening, and I know they are working out the kinks. A plus that they have here is they serve food!  Downside is when people order the cheese plate, it can get a little smelly.

This is a good alternative downtown if you don't want to wait in the Single Barrel line, or deal with hot sweaty people grinding up on you at Loft. I wouldn't cross 55 South off my list just yet.

Love this place. It's casual, unpretentious, and the bartenders are willing to tell you all about the drink you'll be getting.

I never thought to compare this place to Singlebarrel because this doesn't advertise itself as a "speakeasy" and secondly, I think Singlebarrel is a bit more gimmicky (not to take away frm the quality of their drinks) while 55 South is more just a place you can stop in with friends for good cocktails. Having frequented both places, I think they offer both VERY different experiences and its silly to compare.

Any who. 55 South is a solid place to go with friends and I have been recommending it to everyone.

This place used to be a wine bar.  That wine bar was pretty good too but no one was ever in there and it was an odd spot.  However, it looks like this place as a nice cocktail lounge/bar is looking promising.  I came here with a few friends to check it out.  They redid the interior and made it more inviting than the dimly lit wine bar before.  Nice charm of having drinks listed on black chalkboard and seats all around the place.  There was plenty of room for people to sit and socialize but not too pretentious.  Drinks and alcohol displayed showed this place is a quality over quantity bar.  I ordered an old fashion with rye whiskey (loved that they asked if I wanted bourbon or whiskey) and another friend ordered one of their other signature drinks and another ordered a stella.

The friend who got his cocktail enjoyed his drink as much as I loved my old fashion.  It was made exactly right and hit the spot.  Yes, it was a $10+ drink but I'd pay that much if I was at singlebarrel.  And don't get me wrong I love singlebarrel...but sometimes I don't want to wait 1 hour to get my drink and then be asked to be quiet 10 times when I"m inside.  This place is open, you can have a conversation but it's not by any means a crazy downtown college bar.  You don't take shots here...you sip enjoy, have a convo, and chill.  Definitely will come back to see what the other drinks are like.

All I can say is don't believe the hype, especially for those of you tryna compare this place to Singlebarrel.  This is NOT singlebarrel and will never come close.

Singlebarrel gets its prestige from the fact that it is exclusive and has the time and emotional connection with people to give them what they want at the finest quality possible.  And although it's bougie AF and can borderline pretentious, you can't deny the fact that the bartenders really know, appreciate, and honor their craft.

I can't really say the same for 55 South.  All these damn hipster-wannabes lookin for the next hot thing packed in one tiny ass corner bar makes for a ridiculous time.  Don't expect getting a buzz or anything here since it'll probably take you 20-30 minutes to even get to the bar...and then you have to catch the attention of the bartender. Lord knows how long that will take.  And then since these poor bartenders have to serve a hoard of drunken hypebeasts, they make pretty subpar and forgettable drinks.  Well, unforgettable at times when they're so bad.  I ordered a Moscow Mule and it tasted like a straight up lime.  Like, if I have to coach a bartender how to make a MM, one of their STAPLE drinks, then it's all bad.

I guess I could give this place a try when it's not busy, but do I really want to contend with all these people just to get a good drink? The pushy shovey, Imma get mines so FU, here lemme pee in the same stall as you bc I'm drunk AF type of people?

    ...No.

I've been here twice.  It's nice and not crowded, the service is fairly prompt and friendly, and the decor inside is nice.  The prices are what you'd expect for a nice cocktail.

There are only a couple of downsides:
1 - I wish it had more seating.  The bar has a lot of seats and there is another seating area, but if you come when it's busy there's a high chance you'll be standing with your $10 cocktail, just waiting to be bumped into by a tipsy person.
2 - They way overdo it with lemon in their cocktails.  I've had two of their house cocktails (Bramble, pear martini drink), and they all had way too much lemon juice.  The balance was way off.  It overpowered the other flavors in the cocktail.

But hey, if life gives you lemons...make cocktails.  3.5 stars, just because this overlemony thing is just so consistent and it really doesn't make me want to go back to try other things there.

gonna go ahead and give my own review a "TLDR" because if you're here there's an 80% chance you've been to or heard of single barrel. If you don't know what TLDR is, then welcome to the internet!

Pretty much just a poor man's Single Barrel. There's no way in hell this bar is going to take out Single Barrel it's just an alternative if you want the drinks similar to Single Barrel but don't want to wait in line.

I think people need to stop comparing this place to single barrel.

55 South is NOT a speakeasy.
    Single Barrel IS.

Now because of the point above, the vibes are totally different, even if the decor tries to set the same mood. When you enter, you show your ID to the ID checkers at the door, and they open the door for you. When you go in, the lighting is dim, and there is a lot of seating available. On a Friday or Saturday night, this place will be packed by 11pm. It'll be pretty crowded with people bumping into you. It will also be very very loud - and these are the key differences in Single Barrel and this place.

As for the drinks, they are a bit heavier at $10 dollars a cocktail. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable, but when the house is packed, it'll be near impossible to order a drink. At singlebarrel, you're paying for an experience. Here, the drinks are a bit over priced, as you're pretty much just ordering off a menu. They have some classic drinks like the old fashioned which I guess is making a come back.

Overall, I wasn't super impressed by this place. I won't be returning. I prefer the speakeasy lounge where you can, speak easy. Or for those days I don't mind yelling to talk to my friends, i'll go to a more affordable dive bar.

This place just didn't push the right buttons for me. It's trying to be a regular bar, with the loudness, and packed environment; but I feel at the same time, it's trying for that high class, pretentious, expensive drinks establishment. It falls short on both ends, and has not found a good balance. It's not terrible, but it's definitely not good.

    I don't recommend, and I won't be returning.

I liked this place a lot! I wouldn't call it a speak-easy, it's more of just a simple hipster bar, but the alcohol selection is awesome (in every category). Mostly I was excited about the freakishly large collection of whiskies (definitely over 50 different ones).

Additionally, I ordered the Devil's Canyon Full Boar sour beer, and I absolutely loved it, it was amazing (if you like sour beer)! I asked the waitress if she knew where I could buy the beer in a case or a six-pack, and she told me I couldn't because it had been made in a freak scotch-ale incident and was on a limited-edition basis.

I offered to buy the last case off the store, they agreed to sell me a few of the bottles, which I am now saving and savoring for as long as I can.

The atmosphere was great until around 9 or 10 p.m. when they started playing music (there was a DJ in the fairly small bar area...) and it got super loud. My date and I ultimately fled.

So, I would definitely come here in the early evening for a quiet hang-out over good alcohol, but I would make a run for it as soon as the music starts and head somewhere else (too bad DTSJ closes down a little early...)

I'm definitely planning to come here sometime soon with my friends to try out some of their cocktails and get myself some more delicious, delicious sour beer, and whiskey.

(AND I DEFINITELY DO NOT HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM! ;p)

    BOOOM SHAKALAKA!

That's the first thing that comes to mind when going to 55 South. It's not because of how crazy my booty shaking was but because of how loud they were actually playing their music.
    --------------------------------------------

The reason why we went here the other day was because after waiting for almost an hour to get into Singlebarrel we were thirsty. A little too thirsty so my bro Alan and I decided to go a few blocks down and give 55 South a try and MAN ..was it packed!

    [Decor]

55 South is a small bar with modest dimmed lights and really comfy couches, perfect for a great night drinking out.

    [Drinks we ordered]

Moscow Mule- Vodka, Lime, and Ginger Beer

Old Fashion- Bourbon/ Rye Whiskey, Bitters, with Simple Syrup

I found the portion size to be a bit small with majority of it being ice but it sure did hit the spot, I especially liked the Moscow Mule. Normally, most bars will skip the copper cup but not here. The traditional way of drinking a Moscow Mule has always been in a copper cup and from what I've heard it's actually for your taste pallets so kudos 55 South for getting it right. If you get a chance try it with some Russian Standard Vodka, it's amazing!

I'm not sure why or maybe we're just pansies but the Old Fashion was a bit on the strong side. Alan was making some strange faces so I decided to give it a try and boy was it strong. A few more of that and you'll see me dancing the macarena going BAZONKERS.

    [Service]

Since the bar was really packed and orders were going left and right, it took a while for our bar tender to take our order but when she did, she was really friendly and kept it pretty calm through the crazy rushes.

    ----------------------------------------------

Overall, 55 South is an awesome bar to grab a few drinks and hang out with a few friend.
    ----------------------------------------------

I'll leave you with a somewhat relating bro code quote from "HIMYM":

"A Bro doesn't sing along to music in a bar. Exception: A Bro may participate in karaoke. Exception to exception: No chick songs."

    Stay thirsty my friends.

Came here to wait for single barrel.

    DRINKS:
    - $10 for a pretty good cocktail (Bramble, Saving Grace)
    - decent beer selection, except they were out of the one that my boyfriend wanted to try

We didn't try to food because this was just a pit-stop, but perhaps I'll try it next time.

The only reason why I think it is A-OK was because of one incident with the waitress. My boyfriend was being DD, so he wasn't planning on getting anything alcoholic. He tried to confirm with her that ginger beer has no alcohol in it. She replied with "Duh, it's beer. Of course it has alcohol." I have never had a ginger beer with alcohol in it, so we were pretty sure she was wrong. Sure enough, when the "beer" came, it was pretty much a ginger soda. Anyway, just thought this was rude, and we left shortly after that.

Other than that, the place has a really comfortable vibe. Great place to chill and catch up with some friends! =)

So my best pal Daniel wanted to stop by Single Barrel for a drink... well, we waited for a while, and he was REALLLLLYYYY THIRSTY. Y'know? So, his Yelp buddies suggested this little place. Now I've been here a few times, and the atmosphere is certainly different than Single Barrel, but hey, he's thirsty... let's go.

This joint is nice and welcoming, dimly lit, alcohol well-stocked, and great amount of friendly people. The bartenders are knowledgeable on their alcohol and are pretty attentive... sometimes. I stood at the counter waiving my hands like I had Mad Cow disease trying to catch someone's attention. When I finally did, I thought I would get horrible service because it took so long... but boy was I wrong.

This pretty bartender apologized that it took a while, and she even noted that she saw me waving my hands like a crazy man on coke, and felt bad that she was slammed... s'all good man! We ordered our drinks (I got the Old Fashioned, and Daniel got the Moscow Mule) and headed on over to the lounging area.

Well, unfortunately, my Old Fashion was just SUPER strong.... or maybe I was just being a pansy? Probably both. But let's move forward... hahaha!

The reason why I'm giving this place a 4 out of 5 is because like I said, I've been here a few times, and it seems to me that the drinks are inconsistent in terms of amount served, and how potent the alcohol is. I've gone here before where I'm floating on cloud 9, and everything's clicking, and the music is making me all jfdajfdlksafjlk a;sl djsafkl.

And there are days where the music ain't happenin, the drink isn't poppin, and my groove ain't feelin the vibe. So yeah, I really enjoy this place. I would definitely return because there's no queue line, and the service is usually spot on.

I've been to this location when it was called The Perfect Finish. I liked it then. They had Karaoke on Thursdays.

I have meant to go back but it never happened. Now its called 55 South!

Well it's even better! I love the new seats! It's more loungey and cozy. They have a really extensive collection of liquid courage. I say it's pretty impressive. The staff remained very on point and attentive.

They validate when you park in any public garages. The light rail is just a few steps when you stumble out. That's a big plus for those rough nights!:)

    55 South has:

    - Kickass selection of whiskey/liquor
    - Kickass bartenders (Hi Eric!)
    - Kickass cocktails
    - Kickass atmosphere
    - Kickass food

Wine, beer, liquor, 55 has it all. They usually have Indie Dance on Pandora (awesome station) and a DJ on weekends. Can't believe they're still in soft opening, can't wait to see how much more amazing they'll be after their grand opening!

Oh man, 55 South, Original Gravity, Singlebarrel make up a wondrous triangle of bar hopping goodness.

    Great new bar located DTSJ!

It's intimate, dimly lit, plenty of seating, and great for events such as birthdays and what not. I came here with a buddy and was so pleased to finally enjoy myself at a not so speakeasy bar. No lines like SingleBarrel but this place does give a good vibe. Amazing $10 cocktails such as the horchata rum and A State of Grace which is my fave! There was a DJ the night I went on a Thursday. Crowd is diverse and I love that you can just come here to grab a drink and enjoy a good conversation. There are plenty of beers AND WINE ON TAP! It's pretty amazing.

I would highly recommend anyone to drop by and grab a drink here if they are looking to carry a conversation with a date or even play catch up with a friend.

55 South. I remember when my friend mentioned it, I was thinking, what is this place? I've been to my share of DTSJ bars so we decided to go check it out last month. I'm not exactly sure how long this place has been open (seems pretty recently) but I LIKE IT!

It's a more modern take of the new trend of speakeasy bars that have opened over the past few years. The popular spot in SJ has been Single Barrel, but sometimes with the long waits, it deters me from wanting to get a good old-fashioned drink. Well 55 South offers you good drinks, that are all well-made, with more speed and in a much more lively atmosphere. I enjoyed the music they were playing here, while I lounged and sipped on some old-fashions and cocktails. I have to go back try their food, because it hear that it's pretty decent. The bartenders and staff are really friendly. There's a decent amount of seating areas, so it's a good place to go for groups.

I've been to this bar a few times now and I have to say I'm kind of a huge fan. I love the atmosphere and the drinks, plus it's always a great time!

This is a new-found bar, but there's nothing new about the expertise of the bartenders. You can always ask for them to whip you up a killer awesome drink with any of their varieties of high end liquors on the shelf. They specialize in JAPANESE WHISKEY. OMG.

That's all I'm going to say.

On weekends they have a DJ and live music, but otherwise they have music on most nights and it's a super chill, relaxed place to hang out and lounge. Me likey.
