Great beer! Fast service. I wanted to love this place because I always loved going to brewpubs! Unfortunately it was mediocre food at best. Ingredients seem like they could have been purchased straight from a Cisco or Aramark and heated, yet my plate wasn't hot when I got it. I had a hotty burger. My wife had a shrimp salad which she liked a little more.
Review Source:Great place to bring your dogs and sit outside to eat. You can't go wrong if you order one of their delicious burgers (I've tried just about all of them) Â with an order of sweet potato fries! And, of course, a cold beer! The wait staff is friendly, but more often than not, you have to wait quite some time for the food to arrive. Stick with the burgers, and you're good to go!
Review Source:I've been meaning to update my review on Abita Pub. So, here goes...
I've been 3-4 more times since & each time I'm reminded what I love about this place!
What a cool business concept! What a great boon to our economy & LA through Abita beer's success!!
There are things I like & dislike about the Northshore. Abita Pub & Abita Brewery are 2 that make my top 10 likes. I know, I know! On with the review already!! Gheesh!!
If you've ever perused my reviews you know by now that I'm fond of simple. Ie: 1,2,3/ a,b,c. Soooo... Don't hate my consistency! Here we go!
1.) The pub is cute! Well done! It fits in Abita's landscape perfectly & quietly.
2.) The inside is just as nice with one exception ( please don't hate on me for this!!) I do not for the life of me understand the lame mural in the dining room by the bar! Of all the amazing options, artists & mediums to choose from.... This is what made y'all stand back & exclaim: Yes!! This is fantastic!! Perfect!! ????? Really???? If someone knows something I don't or you see something I don't??? Share, please.
3.) Growlers!!! I LUV these glass gallon beer jugs!! I LUV getting them filled each visit ( when I remember to bring!!) with a different Abita beer! It's like a go cup but, SUPA SIZED!!
4.) The beer. Props are due!!! Come on! If you don't love beer or, moderately like it what are you doing here? We have tons of amazing food/restaurants on the South & North shore. The beer is what makes this place unique!
5.) The latest info on Abita beer from the source! New formulas in the works, available now & limited edition beers. Contests like the one for the best turbo dog label drawing. The artists renderings were displayed along the wall as you walked to the bar. This was a long time ago but, stuck with me because it's one of my favourite beers & it had doggies!! Come on!! I'm the petrsq girl!
6.) The food is damn good! Not your average pub grub here! Luckily for me the menu has lots of tasty seafood options. Pub grub fan I am not.
Friends have raved over the pork chops, burgers & more exotic fare... Alligator.
Just Go!!! Go to sit on the patio & enjoy a cold one on a sunny day. Go take your out of town friends, they'll dig it. Go to support our local business that went from the little engine that could to owning the rail line!!! Go to fill up that growler in the back of your pantry! You know you've been meaning to take it for ages!
Go just because. Stay & go tour the brewery! This is another review for another time...
I've been to the Abita Brew Pub on 2 seperate occasions. Â The 1st time was about 2 years ago after tubing for 4 plus hours. Â My redneck wanna-be drunken companions and I stumbled in here to grab a bite to eat and continue the drunken shenanigans. Â I had some jambalaya and a few beers and it didn't leave much of an impression.
The 2nd time was a few weeks ago after biking with the girlfriend on The Trace.  This time we sat at the bar and ordered burgers and a few beers.  The burgers were really good and the service was ample enough.  Abita has almost all their beers on tap(strawbeery was only available by bottle) and they include 1 guest beer from a different brewery.  The biggest issue I have is that  they charge more for a draft Abita at ABITA than in other places?  They don't have to pay a distributor, there are no transportation charges,  the place is right there!  So how come a pint is 5.50?  I pay 5.00 at the Bulldog and get to keep the glass.  I paid 4.00 at the French Quarter Fest just this past weekend.  I know its knit-picky but it must be said.  Other than that it's a cool place to go for a few brewskies and bar type food.
After a long bike ride on the trace, Gabe and I decided to park the bikes here and grab food and beer. We sat at the bar which seemed more informal as we were sweaty from our ride. We each ordered a beer...me, Abita Strawberry...when in Rome, right? It's my favorite anyway. The burger I ordered was a California burger, I think. Had feta cheese and avocado...mmmm. Perfect lunch! We ended up biking 17 miles that day. Lots of fun and look forward to doing it again.
Review Source:Mighty fine brews and tasty food! Went during an early Tuesday evening  with what seemed to be the local crowd. Had great service at the bar. Ordered the jambalaya which came with a salad. The jambalaya had a good taste and texture, also came with green been's and crawfish cornbread. The beers were a great variety of Abita brews, on this trip I enjoyed the Spring IPA and the Wheat IPA!
Review Source:Our server Lisa (made that up, forgot her name... but she's a brunette, glasses and has a fine sense of humor) was awesome.
My buddy got the beer sampler and I got to try the chocolate stout. Delicious. And it came in a generous six 3-4oz cups, enough to get my redneck buddy was scared to get drunk!
I got the Spicy Burger with BBQ sauce instead and it was delicious.
This is a cool pub for the Northshore but not as cool as the actual brewery. Â They have lots of things made with Abita Beer and specific Abita beer recommendations to pair with your food. Â The food is good but the atmosphere is even better. Â They have a respectable gift shop area with lots of Abita Beer merchandise and souvenirs. Â This definitely seems like one of the best bars to hang out in on the Northshore. Â The only downside is that every time I've been here its been really crowded, with often a wait to get seated, and it is a bit of a tourist trap. It is an adventure to get here from New Orleans and you definitely need a designated driver if you intend to get back.
Review Source:Great little microbrewery where the Abita empire began. The original tanks are in the back. I sat at the bar and sampled a couple of the beers. They were good. The service was great. The food that I saw coming out to other patrons looked fresh and I saw some happy faces but did not sample any food.
Review Source:What a tiny twisted little town! We met folks here and had a great time. The food was good and bit too pricey. Should have skipped the food altogether and stuck with the microbrew. The beer is what it's about. I don't particularly care for bitter beer, but if you stick with the light variety your gut can emerge relatively unscathed. Combine that with good company, and it earns four stars, one of which is for charity-this town could use some streetlights, that's all I'm sayin.
Review Source:Great little microbrewery tucked away in the small town of Abita Springs, LA. Â We met up with a high school buddy of mine here, at his recommendation, and it was fantastic. Â I had my first muffaletta and Abita beer here, and neither disappointed. Â The Abita light is really good stuff. Â We like to drink the light beers when eating, so as not to get overstuffed! Â We did sample a few of the other beers, and only the out-of-state brand (Freaktober, maybe?) was a bust.
The food was all good as well, but the stand out items were the appetizers: Â ANDYGATOR CRAWFISH CAKE - Served with Fried Tomatoes and topped with something called "Turbodog Remoulade sauce." Â This was some seriously good stuff. Â We should have ordered two. HUMMUS - might have been some of the best hummus on the face of the Milky Way =)
As for the food itself, the SHRIMP AGNES was a bit pricey at nearly $20, but was really good. Â It was some fried shrimp served on top of mashed potatoes and a honey pecan sauce. The MUFFALETTA was good, but being that it was my first one, I didn't realize I'd find more authentic (and larger) versions later on my trip. Â
All in all, excellent place in a cozy little southern town!
This is a good spot to hit whether you're out with friends or having dinner with your girl. They naturally have all the different Abitas, including Selects that may end up being production varieties. I remember having an IPA here before Jockamo came out, and I remember it being better than what the Jockamo is now. The vibe is laid back and they have TVs to catch a game or something. The food goes from sandwiches to full dinners, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. It's also right on the Trace, so it can be a destination on a long bike ride.
Review Source:This place is always very busy. After waiting 10 minutes for our server to arrive, she came by and took out drink order and almost got away before we were able to order our crab claws.
I've been here several times and I just realized that I've never had the roast beef poboy, so I decide that's what I'm getting. My dining partner got the blackened shrimp and avocado salad.
The claws were actually blue crab fingers cooked in a broken, buttery sauce. They were actually kinda tough and at first were not served with bread, then came this cold store bought bread that left much to be desired.
As soon as we were done with the app our entree arrived. The salad was beautiful, colorful and obviously fresh. It seemed to be delicious.
My poboy was sliced roast beef in canned gravy on the Same bread that my crab fingers were served with.
It wasn't bad, but NOT a real roast bee poboy.
Service was acceptable.
I'll be back, just not for the poboy.
We stopped here after doing the Abita brewery tour. Â Apparently, the brewpub is at the original brewery location. Â While it bears the Abita name and serves mainly only their beers, it is not owned or operated by Abita. Â We sat at the bar as usual and ordered beers & food. Â Beers came quickly. Â Food not so much. Â We had just ordered a salad and a sandwich, but they took over an hour to get us our food. Â When it arrived, it wasn't that great. Â So go for the beers (4 stars) and skip the food (two stars).
Review Source:A rainy Friday afternoon found the pub nearly empty except for a big group of teachers out for some happy hour fun. Â A pleasant host welcomed and seated us immediately, and we liked the casual, but clean, atmosphere inside.
Having spent the previous 24 hours eating and drinking our way through New Orleans, we weren't starving and ordered a few smaller dishes to share. Â The only really great dish was the fried artichoke hearts with a spicy, creamy dipping sauce. Â They were out of this world -- really fresh, but crispy and light, a perfect compliment to cold beer! Â The crawfish cake was underdone and overly bready, gumbo on the thin side, and jambalaya a bit bland and dry for my taste. Â Also, both the gumbo and jambalaya contained a sausage that tasted off to me: very gamey, almost as if it contained liver, though it wasn't labeled boudin.
Besides the artichoke hearts, the only reason I'm giving this place three stars is the beer. Â Abita makes some great stuff, and just about all of it is available at their pub. Â I was especially fond of their Abbey Ale, a Belgian-style saison which was a mere 6 dollars for a 20-ounce bottle of 8% ABV! Â Their other offerings range from hoppy to fruity, and they're all interesting and fresh. Â Bonus: you can purchase cold 6-packs to go. Â We did.
Like Abita beer? You will like this place. Â I have little else to say about that.
I will add, though, that I tried the pecan encrusted catfish and had trouble believing I was not eating dessert. It was really sweet and pretty good in my opinion, but I could see it being offputting to others. My friend had a burger and said that it was average. The service was perfectly good, and the environment is about what you would expect, if perhaps a little quieter (or at least it was when I was there...)
Abita Brew Pub gets crowded? Interesting... The day we went we were among only a handful of people who were there. I'm a big fan of Abita beers (except strawberry... I swear I think I'm the only person on earth that doesn't like it. But I digress.) I was excited to do a tour and have some samples. Well, we skipped the tour but I did enjoy two different flights of samplers. Yum. And, ended up having some of the best gumbo I've ever eaten in my life. We actually ordered dinner but I couldn't even tell you what else we had, the gumbo was definitely the star of the meal. I'd go back for that alone if it was just a wee bit closer to home.
Review Source:It's interesting to see how varied experiences have been here!
I was always a huge Abita fan, and was excited to finally visit their pub (from CA).
I think we picked a nice time to come, Thursday afternoon, because it was fairly empty. Â We got to sit down, order some beers, and wait for our food! Â We both got Po Boys (roast beef and seafood mix), and they were both quite good. Â The seafood po boy was fantastic. Â Service was good, no complaints there.
Before we left, I grabbed some stuff at the gift shop, and they were nice there too. Â The bartender just popped over to help us out, good stuff.
Went there on a lovely afternoon with the intention of eating outdoors. Â Turns out, even though the patio was full they refused to serve anyone outside. Â Fine. Â I was more then happy to go in, order and bring my food outside. Â For whatever reason that was NOT allowed. Â Personally why on earth would I opt to wait in a long line for an indoor table in a place that's cold, dark, and noisy?
Sorry -- the customer is always right, folks.
This place is open from 2-3 a few days a week and on sat. Â The tour lasts one hour. Â It is very interesting because you just help yourself to the tappers of all their beer. Â Interestingly they run out of beer often. Â You would think that the brewery could tap a new kegger, but what do I know. Â I nick them out of one star for this, but it is hard to complain about free beer. Â
It is a good kick off to the afternoon.
Abita Beer is a famous local staple in New Orleans, so I found it fitting to visit the brew pub when visiting a good friend on the northshore.
Tucked away in the trees, it was a great little "out-of-the-way" drive for my vacation. The pub had just opened when we came in for lunch, so it was nice and quiet, and I could easily tell how spacious the area was.
The bar was beautiful, with colorful Abita taps coming from the hardwood walls. My friend and I sat at the bar, tasted several of the different beers, and shared the spinach and artichoke dip.
Everything was great! Food was hot and fresh, and the beer was cold and delicious. Couldn't ask for anything more, except maybe more time.
Cheers!
I've been to the ABP a few times and normally just  sit bar side and often order the fried calamari which has always been good.
Went for a bit of a get together with friends the other night and was highly disappointed.
We ordered the fried calamari as an app and when it was delivered table side it was placed in 2 dishes and placed around the table for the whole group to enjoy.  Oddly enough a friend had already started on one bowl of our calamari and had already salted and peppered it.
So minus one for not know what apps each person ordered.
Now for the main dishes. Â I ordered the Pecan encrusted catfish. Â First off it was majorly over cooked with the pecans being burnt, I'm talking like borderline black. Â So of course the catfish was like shoe leather.
The pecan sauce that was suppose to be on top of the catfish was the consistency of caramel. Â It was super thick and chunky. Â Not a sauce at all.
My BF ordered the Chicken Nata and again it was majorly overcooked to the point of being close to chicken jerky.
When the server came back I politely pulled her aside and informed her how bad our food was. Â You could clearly see I took one bite of my fish and was done with it.
When the bill came not a penny was taken off the bill. Â We got half order of calamari, horrible fish that was not eaten and a chicken dish that required you order several more beers just to choke it down. Â All at the low low cost of around $60. Â Oh I did get a Rita that was quite good.
From here on out I'll just stick with the app of calamari and drinks to be on the safe side. Â That is if we ever visit ABP again.
For work I venture to Louisiana a bit. Â One thing I realize when I make it down to the South: Â we got it good in the Pacific Northwest! Â The beer selection is downright deplorable in the South (for this reason, and others I couldn't live down there). Â I mean, some restaurants think they have a great selection when they have both Bud AND Miller on tap!! Â
So sad.
One shining beacon for Lousiana: Â Abita Brewing Company
In the northwest, it seems like we have a microbrewery on every street corner. Â In Lousiana, there's Abita. Â This is about all they have down here, but it's not a bad thing. Â Abita is pretty decent. Â They have a few regular ales they produce year round, and also have some nice seasonals as well.
On my last trip, before heading home, I made a point of dropping by the Abita Brew Pub. Â Would have liked to have stopped at the actual Brewery, but the hours for the tour were a little too early on a work day. Â Nonetheless, very glad to have made it here. Â
The pub is in a nice area of Abita Springs (it's a bit of a jaunt off the interstate, traffic can be a pain during "rush" hour, but it's worth it.) Â The Pub is actually pretty big. Â There is a merchandise store in the front, and the decent-sized bar is near the entrance. Â Then there is a huge dining area and other other rooms with tables. Â Me and my homies saddled up to the bar. Â I was on my way to NOLA, so I didn't want to drink too much, but I went with my usual, a sampler.
Now since they have a huge selection of brews on tap, they have two samplers (each with 5 brews): Â Regular & Premium. Â I went with the Premium since I had many of the "Regular" ones while in Baton Rouge. Â Honestly, I shoulda just ordered both Samplers, but I had a drive ahead of me. Â At any rate, my Premium tasters were decent. Â The Andygator definitely packed the most punch (with it's 8-11% alcohol level). Â All in all, great beers, super nice beer maiden, great company, and nice atmosphere. Â
I thought I was in the Pacific Northwest there for a moment!
If I could own a brew pub, this would be the place. Â It's got a rustic, local feel that is perfect for this location.
There are quite a few of their beers on tap and I tried a couple I can't get out of state. Â The Christmas Ale was still available so I had to try it. It was a nice brown ale that did the trick for round one. Round two was the Red Ale that had just the right amount of hops and was a perfect choice to pair with seafood.
I got the crawfish bisque which was amazing. Rich and creamy with chunks of crawfish throughout. Â I haven't had a bisque this good in a very long time. Â
Then I got the Combo Po-Boy. I never knew I could get fried shrimp, catfish & oysters in one sandwich. It had mayonnaise and lettuce on local french bread. The bread is amazing in Louisiana, so it totally makes this a meal. Â Everything was fried to perfection, cooked perfectly and lightly seasoned, so the flavors came through. Â There were fries that were pretty tasty too.
We got to talk with the manager for a while and he gave us a really cool history lesson on the brewery and the restaurant. Â
It is located on Louisiana's Northshore, but if you're staying in New Orleans and have a car, drive out to try this place.
This is what I expect from a Brew Pub. Â Tons of taps, and good food that is made to go with the beer. Â I had the quail, which had a sort of blueberry topping, and came on corn bread stuffing. Â The stuffing was fantastic. Â We also got some crab claws for an appetizer, which were amazing. Â
In addition, the beer was pretty cheap compared to a lot of the brew pubs I've seen, which is really nice.
Atmosphere: Nice pub atmosphere!
Food: Good pub grub.
Try the Turbodog beer if you like dark beer. It is very smooth and chocolate toffee flavored.
Burgers were also very good, as was the gumbo.
Service: So so. Slow and not especially attentive.
Overall, not a bad choice.
Stick to the pub grub like the burgers and/or gumbo, along with the Turbodog beer and you should be happy.
This strictly a review of the service I received.
Worst service ever.
I really did not want to come here but the other 3 in my group did.
We arrived at approximately 1:15 on Saturday, January 22. We were told that there was about a 30 minute wait. We asked if we could sit at the bar and order food, answer was a firm "no". After sitting around on the patio watching groups of 8 or more, one party of 11, being seated before us I grew agitated. One in our group asked the hostess about our table and we finally sat down to order at 2:11. Not a 30 minute wait.
We ordered drinks promptly and an appetizer. Once our drink arrived a few moments later, we all ordered our food. The appetizer arrived about 15 minutes later and our food arrived at 3:11.
So lets recap:
30 minute wait for a table was actually 56 minutes.
Time for our food to arrive after order: one hour (yes, I actually timed it).
By the way, food was less than impressive. And we passed several people at the bar eating food after we were told we could not do the same thing. Wish I would have snapped a picture of the family with two children sitting at the bar. I am sure the board that issues the ABO cards would have liked to see that.
Yes, the restaurant was packed. But tell me there's a hour wait so I can decide to wait or not. And don't tell me I can't sit at the bar to eat and then offer the seats to someone else to do the same thing. Lots of people visit the area and are looking for a place to eat, schedule the wait staff accordingly. From the attitude of the staff there, you would have thought this was their first weekend in business and had no idea what to expect.
So...I will not be going back to the Abita Brew Pub in this lifetime, even if offered free food and drinks. I was never a big fan of any of their brews to begin with. This is just a tourist trap with high prices. Save your time and money.
Nice little place hidden away in Abita Springs!
If you like beer - a bold Turbodog, a fruity Purple Haze, a nice Amber -
you will love the Pub. Even if you are not a beer drinker you will enjoy the much better than expected pub food.
The building is the original Abita Brewery (its now a few miles away) and retains a bit of the original industrial feel. Otherwise, the interior has a rather rustic look. An interesting combination to say the least...
The food is basic food - very good burgers and pastas - but with a few more or less regional items (Po-boys and Jambalaya). Also, the nightly specials can be very good. I recently enjoyed a a dish of a fried softsheel crab on top of crawfish pasta - excellent!
And of course it all goes down well with the beer!
The Brew Pub is a great place to get some food or, more importantly, get some excellent beer.
The restaurant is affiliated with Abita Brewery, but not owned by the same people. They sell all of Abita's excellent beers and merchandise.
I usually sit at the bar and consume my Turbodog, but they also have plenty of tables. The bartenders are great. If you aren't sure what beer to get they will allow you to sample.
I've had salads, burgers, hot wings, steaks and calamari. All are very good.
My favorite thing to get here is the hotty burger. A huge juicy burger topped with pepper jack cheese and jalapenos. It ranks as my favorite burger on the northshore. Pair it with a Turbodog and you have burger and beer heaven.
One of the best things about the brew pub is that it is no smoking. This means that after hours at the bar, you don't reek of cigarettes. Â If your a smoker there are plenty of tables outside where you can puff away.
I should also mention that this is a full service restaurant. You don't have to drink and kids are welcome.
Enjoy.
Wow, amazing burgers. Â The spinach and artichoke dip is great for a large group. Â This is a phenomenal place to finish off your brewery tour or just to swing in for a BIG bite to eat. Â This is not health food...
The pub is several miles from the actual brewery. Â The pub is located in the heart of town and is right on the Evangeline Trace trail.
Had some business on the Northshore so I finally decided to take the Abita brewery tour and stop by the Brewpub for a late lunch.  The brewery tour was okay--the tour itself was hard to hear and understand and was short, but the videos they showed were very informative and I wanted to just hang out in their faux-living room drinking from  the endless taps of Abita (including Abita Root Beer!!) for hours. Â
Anyways...the brewpub, as mentioned, is the site of the original brewery, and has some of their old equipment still in place there. Â It was fairly empty when I showed up (330pm) so service was prompt and easy. Â The waitress ragged on me endlessly. Â They have Abita "samplers" on the menu, which consist of 5oz draft nips of 5 different beers, served on a mat that showed what each one was. Â Very nice. Â I had a crawfish pasta dish of some kind which the menu warned, in bold, italics, and underlined letters, was SPICY!!! Â I found it had a bite but was quite flavorful and palatable--it wasn't bad at all but I guess they get a bunch of tourists there. Â
I was still very full from all the free brewery beer so I didn't eat much, but it was all very good and well worth a stop if you find yourself on the Northshore.
The pub is down the street from the brewery but lets just say I enjoyed the brewery tour far better that the food at the brew pub. Surprisingly they have very few items made with Abita beer---sounds a bit ridiculous since beer battered/ infused anything sounds good to me!
The service was efficient, the atmosphere was cool and the prices were OK, but the food was lacking in many ways. My Jambalaya tasted like dry Spanish rice with meat--so needless to say I was not thrilled. The crawfish cornbread was pretty tasty. The Oyster brochette -Bacon wrapped Fried Oysters set on a Bed of Creamed Spinach was the only memorable item from my lunch.
Overall a "Meh. I've experienced better" kind of meal. Maybe I expected to much from the brew pub given the beer is fantastic so I was looking forward to a menu filled with beer creations but regardless I've had better so Meh!
Eh. Beer was good, as you'd expect at a brew pub, or they're not doing their job. I guess I was expecting a better choice from the food, but as a pescatarian, I was left with the typical Louisiana default meal of a po'boy. There was a veg pasta dish, but I physically cannot bring myself to pay in the double digits for pasta when there's no chance of it being amazing. So, catfish po'boy it was, but they were out of pickles, which to me is most of the fun of eating it.
On the plus side, we did get to sit outside and watch the activity of this tiny crossroads town. We also got to witness the dorkiest biker gang we'd ever seen park their Harleys, one of the women knocking hers to the ground and letting out a little shriek. So at least there was entertainment.
Stopped in here before taking a tour of the Abita Brewery. Â Perfect since the brewery tour starts at 2 and this pub, the original location of the brewery before they outgrew the space, is really convenient to the new location. Â
Really fun atmosphere, nice, light filled rooms. Â We both had burgers, which were really amazingly tasty. Â I had the California burger with a side of sweet potato fries (yeah, plus one for sweet potato fries!). Â It was really quite tasty, and I may use the idea of feta on a burger in the future, it just worked. Â Hubby had some sort of southern burger with barbecue sauce that was also very tasty. Â He got regular fries which were damn tasty as well. Â Perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Bottom line, a nice stop, a great accompaniment to the brewery. Â Be forewarned that if you are going to the brewery, that shirts and other Abita paraphernalia are cheaper at the brewery vice the pub.
