Agave Mexican Grill and Cantina

Got suckered in by the $1.50 Margaritas on Mondays sign out front so thought we'd give it a try. I wasn't expecting much as the decor suggested your average American-ized Mexican/Tex-Mex chain, and unfortunately that's pretty much what it turned out to be like.

We got off to a poor start ordering the drink special when the waiter tried his best to get us to upgrade to the 'discounted' premium drinks instead. We politely refused and stuck with the special. I didn't know the Dixie company made margarita glasses until these tiny drinks arrived, which were almost embarrassing to drink. After finishing them in two sips the waiter came over and suggested a double for $3, which worked out a little better, but they were still on the small side. I guess we failed to read the fine print on the sign outside.

Onto the food. Prices here are at least double of what you would normally pay for Mexican fare, and to add insult to injury, portion sizes are about half of what you'd expect. The menu is somewhat limited and very basic. There are no a la carte choices here, just entrees in the $12-18 range, which is a bit much for small plates of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc.

While not horrible, the food is very average, not good, not bad, just there. I should have known, if the actual food brought people in, there would be no need to trick people with cheap margarita gimmicks.
