I think this is called Jonathan's now? Â Have been here twice with my boyfriend's family who live in the burbs, and have had awful food each time. Â Wings were completely dry and sauces were clearly all from a bottle containing tons of sugar and dye. The bang bang shrimp (although clearly a rip off Bonefish Grill), had potential, but were soggy and overdone. Â The waitress was clearly over sat, so service was very rough. Â The menu reminds me of something that would have been mediocre in the late 90's. Â The only plus is the decent drink specials. Â .
Review Source:See my review for Jonathans of Bellevue. This place seems to change their name every month but it remains the same LAME place. As I said before, it has so much potential but it's just lousy. TVs are old and not worth watching. I just feel like I'm in a room of creepy old guys when I'm there.
Review Source:I would give 4 stars, but they did away with their ongoing 2-for-1 draft beer special. The beer costs the same, but now you only get one (unless it's one of the two featured beers of the month). It's sort of an anti-stimulus.
There are not many watering holes in Bellevue that I enjoy going to, but A.J.'s (they just changed the name back to Jonathan's again...) is on my short list. The food isn't amazing, but it's dependable and tasty. The servers are friendly and efficient, and one can always find the game one is looking on at least one of a bazillion T.V.s throughout the bar area.
You have to try the Horseshoe. I'm originally from Springfield, IL, which used to be the only place in the world a person could find this wonderful dish. A.J.'s/Jonathan's version is not quite as good as the standard back home (they use nacho/queso cheese instead of the traditional welsh rarebit sauce), but it's the next best thing when you're 6 hours away from home. You have to try it the traditional way (with hamburger for the meat), but substituting Buffalo chicken is a good choice if you want something spicier.
They have some interesting karaoke on Saturday nights, and it can be packed most weekends. It's a real blast, if you can make it. They also have your standard Nashville fare singer/guitar player playing cover songs occasionally.
I've figured out the secret to this place: Go at lunch (especially if you have a toddler!)
After receiving a $20 credit from the mgr on account of my previous, dreadful experience, I decided to give it another shot.  At  lunchtime on Friday, there was only one other table there!
I ordered the mozzarella sticks, 1/2 buffalo chicken salad, and a chicken fingers kids meal for my son. Our server was very friendly and attentive--bringing us extra napkins, more coloring sheets, etc. Everything was pretty tasty--though I will say I ended up paying for the spiciness of the chicken later.
I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a "fan" of this place but it's definitely a safe bet for lunch.
I hate to change this review, I really really do... but one of the biggest appeals, 2-fers all the time, is gone and that's a huge disappointment. (I posted a picture of the new drink specials)
AJ's also released a new menu (2nd new release in maybe 6 months?) and while it is more consolidated, the options aren't really my problem. The prices have gone up slightly (only a couple dollars here and there) but that along with the new drink policy... sorry, too much change at one time. (Side note, I apparently turned in to a cranky old woman who's complaining about her early bird special going away. Yikes. I apologize.)
Don't worry, AJ's, I still like you... we're just fighting right now.
Was leaving Nashville and looking for lunch somewhere local that i coule catch part of the football game before my drive back to Memphis.
We stumbled upon AJ's, checked our handy yelp, and ended up inside.
I was impressed, great TV views no matter where you are sitting. Bar and dining area seperated, but not really, keeps it kid friendly. GREAT DEALS on beer. $5.50 for buy one get one all the time Bass Pints (buy one get one on all beers all the time).
Great waitress. Highly endorse if you are looking for a sports bar.
A.J.'s in is the old Bellevue Johnathan's location. Â The interior has remained mostly unchanged and they still have a large beer selection. Â What has changed is the menu. Â They've moved away from Johnathan's we have everything but nothing is really outstanding menu to a more focused menu of burgers and hot dogs. Â The burgers are excellent (you can sub a turkey pattie or chicken breast on any of them) and offer a great amount of variety. Â The burger prices started at $6.50.
Review Source:Stuff I like:
Good happy hour prices on beers.
Afternoon and late night happy hours.
Lots of beer choices.
Lots of flat screens all over the place.
Nice bartenders - she even remembers our drink orders!
Large space with different seating areas.
Stuff I don't like:
Menu is pretty small.
