Would be nice to know there is a rule against shorts before driving an hour to come here, especially considering I've been here before and seen shorts inside on multiple occasions. We were turned away at the door. They can keep the overpriced liquor and we will keep our money... have been here multiple times, but im positive tonight was my last visit.

alchemy is really cool to check out but i couldn't see myself going there very much, more like a once or twice a year kind of thing. it's a fun place to dress up and go to but the drinks are pretty pricey.

I was in town visiting a friend and she suggested we go to Alchemy. I'm not a huge fan of just going to a bar, but this was a completely different experience. She made a reservation ahead of time and was called the day of the reservation with our password. We arrived a little early and had to wait a few minutes before our seats were ready, which was fine. The host and all the bartenders were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were seated at the bar and it was fun to watch the bartenders make the various concoctions. The Prohibition Punch was really good - nice and light without being overly sweet. We also had a taste of the French Mojito and it was also tasty.

Alchemy has a very sophisticated and relaxed atmosphere, which was perfect for a night out to catch up with an old friend. Their rules are also great - at one point we were approached by a bartender telling us that some gentlemen would like to send us drinks. We politely declined because we were driving, but it was very nice not to have to deal with that directly.

My only complaint is that I wish they served some kind of bar food. It doesn't have to be a whole menu, but a little something to snack on would make the experience complete.

    Yes!!!

Thank you Tallahassee. A bar that focuses on high quality drinks from master mixologists that are served by very knowledgeable staff. The ambience is a perfect match for the theme. Just need some kibbles n bits for mastication to stem off the inebriation.

This establishment would not only survive in larger cities, but would thrive!!

This was a one of a kind experience in both atmosphere, concoctions, and I felt like I was teleported back to the prohibition era.  You must have reservations, they will call you the day-of to confirm and give you a password to enter.  Go to the Filling Station prior for a delicious dinner and then head over to the Texaco "bookshelf" in the bar attached, find the secret door, give them your password to enter the hidden bar.  A must-do in Tallahassee!

I've only been the one time to this bar, but I cannot wait to get a new group together and go back. This is probably one of the coolest things i've done since I've come to Tallahassee.

First and foremost, Make a reservation. Second, don't drive halfway there and then realize that for some insane reason you're not carrying your ID on you. Had to learn about that one the hard way.

When you make your reservation you have to say a secret password in order to get in, which I think just makes the feel of this bar a little more authentic. The drinks are awesome and the bartenders really know what they are talking about. Had a punch bowl, which is meant to be shared and costs $40 if i remember correctly. Split between 4 people that actually ended up working out because we were able to sit all night on that punch bowl, which was delicious and exactly what I was looking to get.

Don't come in here thinking that you're going to be picking up ladies on the fly or anything, you have to ask the bartender to be introduced to anyone and then it is up to that person to decide whether or not they want to talk to you. And of course, remember to dress up. You don't particularly have to wear clothes worthy of a speak-easy, but the dressier the better in my book. My only complaint is that pictures are not allowed because they are trying to stay on target with the technology of the time. As a child of everyone wanting to post everything all over the place, this makes me sad, but I plan to go back soon and will probably sample different drinks in order to give a more comprehensive review.

While normally I would write a wonderful review of this establishment, as I have been a patron of this place, I would review everybody to make reservations with caution.

My last visit, or attempt to visit this establishment, was received with terrible customer service and terrible choices of the  management in charge. To clarify, I made a reservation well in advance. After calling this bar many times on the day that I would visit, I finally was able to contact them and confirm that they were open and my reservation was valid; this was met with a confusing statement: they could close early due to it being a "slow night in business", however, they promised me that they would stay open until my slated time of my reservation.

My reservation was for 11:45 pm, due to it being a celebration for a person's 21st birthday. They proceeded to contact me only twenty-five minutes prior to me be being there and telling me that they were closing down; despite the fact that they already said they would stay open for my reservation.

This establishment does not honor reservations nor do they genuinely care about their customers. They do not honor commitments nor do they practice professionalism. I was not offered one apology, compensation, or sincere regrets at the lost of business. While I understand a bar might close early, however, in a college town such as tallahassee, closing before 11 pm is completely unheard of; as comparison, Grocery's such as Publix even stay open until Midnight.

I am frankly appalled and revolted at their behavior. Please, if you think it might a "slow night", don't bother to make reservations. The Alchemy will not honor them.

Word has spread quickly about this "secret" bar.

I went with my fiancee and a couple of her friends to see what all the hype was all about.

I heard that reservations are not required, but are highly encouraged. I haven't heard of anyone actually getting in without having a reservation though. Make a reservation on their website, and someone will call you on that day with a secret password that you are supposed to whisper in order to enter the bar.

The bar entrance is located right next to the two pool tables at Midtown Filling Station. You'll see a wall with a numberpad, that's where the entrance is. I won't spoil the rest of the experience in entering this bar, but I will give you my experience as I sat at the booth looking at the menu.

This isn't a place where you expect to find happy hours or any other deals on drinks. Be prepared to spend around $13 a drink, depending on what you get. The bartenders are all very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and history of the drinks they are serving. I will very impressed by this. They also dress the part, most of the men having awesome beards. There are lots of interesting drinks that I have never even heard of. The drinks are not limited to the menu they present you. They will make you anything you want, and if you don't like it they will be glad to alter it so that you will enjoy it.

If you are looking for a cool fun experience, and don't mind spending $13 for a couple of drinks, check this place out! Make sure you dress up too! :)

Also, there aren't a lot of pictures of this place because the room is so dimly lit you can't get a good picture (smart on their part :P )

I'm not the kind of person you're going to find in a crowded college bar.  I out grew that many many many years ago.  In fact, I can't think of a single bar I would care to set foot in, until my visit to Alchemy.

The bartenders, Philipp and Aubry really knew their drinks.  They were dressed the part and beyond kind to our group.  The atmosphere left me shocked that think I was in Tallahassee.  They knocked it out of the park.  Thanks to their rules there were no loud obnoxious men or women to spoil the night.  The music was soothing and classy.  Lighting was just right, although I would love it if they provided a small pen light to help read the drink menu by as I no longer have the eyes of a 20 year old that can read in the dark.

Yes it was pricy, but you know what they say.  In this case you really do get what you've paid for;  Class, atmosphere and quality all wrapped up with a staff that fits the part well.  If you don't check this place out when you're in Tallahassee then you are missing a real treat.  Just don't forget to make reservations and get your password.

Reservations required.  You enter through the Midtown Filling Station, and once  you've given them the password you're guided through a little hallway into the bar.  They've fashioned it after a prohibition-era speakeasy with great old music, dark wood and steampunk-inspired lighting.  The servers/bartenders are wearing ye olde facial hair, there's a list of rules of the establishment (no approaching ladies directly, for example), but everyone is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic that it never comes off as contrived, just fun and theatrical.

The drinks are amazing.  Great ingredients, and the bartenders have the proper mixture of creativity and respect for tradition.  On that last point, these guys have obviously done a tremendous amount of research.  My buddy is a something of an authority on prohibition and legacy cocktails and he seemed to be impressed.  If you don't step out of your comfort zone and try something unfamiliar you're doing yourself a disservice.

There's no appetizer menu or bar snacks, but if you ask the server can get you homemade chips from next door.  They're great, so you'll want to ask.

Drinks are in the $12-$15 range, but they're strong, delicious, exceptionally well-crafted, and use ingredients you won't find anywhere else in Tallahassee.  I think the prices are more than fair.  This is not a cheap place, but Tallahassee already has plenty of those.  If that's what you're looking for, Waterworks across the street is a lot of fun.  Alchemy really fills an enormous void.  I love it.
