We stopped in on a quiet weekend during the day as we made our way through downtown. I had to check this place out because of their beer sampler that they do with ANY of they drafts including the super high gravity ones.
We got the beers and also enjoyed the bloody mary bar which is great since they have so many mixes and spices to use.
Really laid back place with good drink prices, ill be back again for sure to see what they have on tap for me to sample next time.
When in Athens recently for a football game we stopped in here twice and had a great time. The bartenders are all very knowledgable about the many beers they have and Athens food & drinking scene. On Saturday before the game they had a make-your-own bloody mary station set up. It was fun mixing them up and trying new combonations and mixes. This is a fun place. Good place to go before the games and have a few. I think they have a rooftop area too.
Review Source:Lots of good memories here. Great music, great scene, and three different 'atmospheres' in one place. You have your normal athens bar downstairs, the pub/ tavern feel upstairs with the pool table and couches, and then you have the beachy bar outside with the string lights and tiki bar. Win win win situation for me. The only drawback is they hardly ever, if ever, have specials. But that only keeps the 19 year olds wanting keystone pitchers for 3 dollars out, and keeping the bar from smelling like Buddha bar and vomit, so I'll pay full price.
Review Source:Three out of towners walk into a bar, the bartender says "What are you having?" I fell in love. With the bar, not the bartender. I'm pretty sure it was when I heard the beginning guitar chords to Gin Blossoms' "Follow You Down".
Great music, mostly 90s while we were there, and great service. The bartender was attentive and friendly. He made conversation with us and was even kind enough to take pics of us.
We went on a Saturday around 4 PM and although the inside had a few people, there were groups of patrons outside, smoking, drinking and just having a good time. If I moved to Athens, I'd definitely frequent this bar, that's how much I liked it.
As another reviewer pointed out, the overall bar set-up and look is 5 stars. I preferred to go during the day or for a post-dinner drink. On the weekends it fills up really fast and can be a little overbearing if you don't want to fight through crowds to get a drink, go to the bathroom, etc. For Athens, drinks can be a little pricey, but it's not much more than the standard prices. If you can manage to get a seat upstairs on the back patio, go for it. Â There's been countless times I've walked in Allgood, saw how long it would take to get a drink and make myself comfortable and ended up just leaving because I wasn't up for the fight. Overall, it's a cool place.
Review Source:This place is HUGE! Â I have only been there one time and it was an a weekend night, so I can't say a whole lot except that it is a very popular place on a weekend night.
They have pay by the hour pool with plenty of tables and an upstairs "outside" smoking patio.
The decor is really cool with a lot of gig poster adorning the walls.
I probably would only go there a) for happy hour or b) if you love dense crowds of drunk people.
When we hit up downtown for a night out, we always make a stop at Allgood. The beer is always cold. The mix drinks are always stout. The bartenders are always friendly. We love hanging on the rooftop patio upstairs, but I really have to wonder who thought a spiral staircase and a bunch of drunks would be a good idea.
Review Source:Dear Allgood formally known as Gater Haters-
It has been a couple of years since the last time we have seen each other. Â I must admit... I was scared of our first encounter after so much time has passed. Were the wounds too raw? Â Would you be hanging out with a whole new crew and forget the love of your life? Â
When I went there a month ago, with my whole bachelorette crew. Â You were the best gentleman there was. Â You and your bartenders made sure we were taken care of. You played all the right music to make us happy and look! we didn't even have to climb up the spiral staircase of death!
Best of all, even though we are seasoned Athens downtowners- your very lovely doorman did not snicker when he saw my DOB on my drivers license. and for that fact alone. 5 STARS!!!
Allgood. I am glad that when we parted ways- we really were able to remain friends... and maybe with some benefits too!
Cheap beer and strong drinks. Â If you're female, you will most likely find someone trying to buy you drinks. Â $10 minimum for credit cards, I think that is so annoying. Â No bartender at the tiki bar while we were there in the afternoon. Â Seemed to be a clean up after yourself type place outside while we were there. Â We had to throw away empty bottles from a table to use it when we came upstairs, but the clean bathrooms made up for that.
Review Source:My pal Janet's got it right. This is a great spot for Happy Hour, especially on Wednesdays when bartender Tamara is pourin' along to her rockin' playlist. All drinks are $1 off and if you're an educator you really score--drinks are $2 off with educator ID. For the older crowd, this really isn't the place you wanna be late night. If, however, you're a twenty-something who's on the prowl, this just may be your holy grail....
Review Source:Definitely my favorite downtown Athens bar. Â The pours are generous, the staff efficient, the patrons attractive, and the ambiance...well, it actually has ambiance, that's a step up for most Athens bars. Â The downstairs has a loft like feel, with dark wood, high top booths lining the walls. Â However, the upstairs porch is by far my favorite. Â In the summertime, I highly recommend grabbing a table under the stars and enjoying some drinks with your friends.
Review Source:Five stars for the look and ambience on an uncrowded night (try happy hour). Â One star for the usual weekend crowd. Â Too rowdy and fratastic for me, folks. Â (Yes, I know that fratty folks are usually kind. Â Yes, I even have many friends who were into Greek life. Â No, I don't want to be anywhere near the "brothers and sisters" when they have alcohol in hand.) Â
I've gone here a couple of times when I've really enjoyed it. Â We had a Graduate Student Association social here a couple years ago and it was wonderful! Â Pool tables, big open spaces, and a really pretty patio on the second floor. Â
Let's meet for happy hour here and skip out the moment night falls.
From the moment you walk through the rustic door and past the fairly attractive doorman you know you're in luck.  A beautiful bar awaits you just steps away.  As you walk past groups at the 5 or 6 tables who are talking loudly and if you elbow some blokes at  the crowded bar, you can order your drink with moderate ease and let the events of the night take hold of you.  If the moment strikes you you can walk up the twisted staircase to an upstairs bar and a well lit outside tiki bar...now if you're like me you're thinking drinking & twisted steps aren't a good idea...but it's okay because they have a regular staircase as well for those of you who won't be leaving sober.  Also, you might want to play a game of pool at the two pool tables upstairs.  Or perhaps, you would like to grab a smoke outside at one of the many wire tables (which have heater things in the winter!!) Oh the memories... weekends are always crowded during the week it's not so bad it's one of my favorite bars in Athens. Visit this bar and I promise you won't be disappointed.
