I was next door at Spinners celebrating a friends birthday on a saturday night with the hubby. Upon leaving, our "birthday" boy was eager to try this place and grab a hookah. There was no cover and as we walked in and we thought it was kind of a atmosphere. We sat down ordered a hookah for $15 and stayed for about 45 minutes. The DJ was awesome. Unfortunately we didn't order drinks considering we were next door doing so, running up a large tab. The only thing i can complain about is that they could use more couches. :) I will be back to try the drinks sometime soon, until then i am giving it 4 stars.
Review Source:Went there New Years eve night to find it a disaster for most the night. I been there a few times before and it was ok but I wanted to go for New Years because it was close to home. For some reason, they had an independent promotor trying to sell me VIP for 450.00. Completely extreme prices, people fighting outside the door, and it was super ghetto. The Dj's music was great and our bartender was good but everything else sucked. A waste of 25 bucks to get in.
Review Source:OMG! Do not go to this club if you do not smoke at all!
Good: songs
Bad: cover charge of $10 or sometimes $15, SMOKE all over the place, I mean really, you will be congested inhaling all the smoke!!!!!, parking lot is another mess!
Overall, we went here per friend's suggestion. We had fun because they played really good hip-hop songs!! the DJ is gooood! Drink's prices are comparable to downtown bars. But the smoke is way too much. I will never be back to this place at all! LOL
Probably the most bizarre "club" I've ever been to.
Went there to meet a friend to watch a Guns n Roses cover band. They were pretty solid (lead singer is the same guy from Metal Shop, if you're familiar). Walked in and there were dancers standing on stages with poles with tip jars. Â I started to wonder if had walked into a strip club. I guess that's your typical go-go dancer. Strange. Anyway, there was no excitement, no energy, no nothing from the patrons. Very dull atmosphere. And the security? Please. There were more guys dressed in black than you'd see at a funeral. Why? One guy got a little rowdy and you'd have thought he was a well known wanted criminal. Relax guys, he's just a drunk. Get his buddy to drive him home and move on. No need for 5 of you to stand around him constantly grabbing your ear piece like you're part of the secret service. Just silly.
In summary. Not a place I plan to return to.
WHEN: Went there this past Friday night with a friend. Â Arrived around 2:45AM, paid the $10 per person cover and went in. Â The dance floor wasn't packed at all. Â
OVERALL OBSERVATION: It seemed the selection of techno/dubstep kept most people off the floor. Â
DRESS CODE: There were people in shorts (guys too) and sunglasses on the floor every once in a while. Â Ball caps were being worn by guys too. Â I don't remember any jerseys being worn but didn't really get past the entrance side of the dance floor for the most part. Â One much older gentleman was weaging a fedora with a feather :) Â He seemed to just add to the random atmosphere but also seemed to creep some ladies out. Â I think he was just there to hang out and didn't really bother anyone...he seemed nice enough.
There were girls from some group walking around topless with body paint...one danced with me for a bit until i had to ignore her to get back to my friend...it was cute and all but with the dance floor not being too packed kinda detracted from the music too much and added to the "used to be a strip club" thought.
ATMOSPHERE: It seemed that people just sat back to enjoy the view?? Not sure what was going on but people seemed to stick to their tables in the various sections throughout the place. Â I didn't come to watch, I came to dance, so we did. Â About the only time the dance floor was full was on more mainstream songs (played few and far between). Â No one realy bothered us, but the club wasn't packed at all (at least not on the dance floor). Â It definitely had a "sex feel" to it with the dancers on the various "rises" (aka pool stage/speaker boxes). Â It was obvious that this was an 18+ venue at this time because people seemed to treat it as teen night (come in, hang out with friends and not really take advantage of the open dance floor).
SMOKING: Yes...they sell cigs in a machine and people smoked them around the place.
MUSIC: Skrillex (I like his stuff) was played quite a bit and the DJ, in my opinion, had a good time playing some really good "packed" club music. Â Problem was this wasn't a packed dance floor except when mainstreams songs were played which weren't often. Â When "Party Rock Anthem" came on after 3am the floor got about 75% packed with everyone shufflin'...that was a blast...but then back to the euro-techno which should only be played when the dance floor won't stop....this dance floor stopped unfortunately. Â The DJ seemed, to me at least, like he knows what he's doing as far as keeping the groove going but probably should be playing bigger crowds...I wonder if the crowd is bigger on other nights?
STAFF: DJ was GREAT (but might be better serving packed floors), Door staff was nice, Police was roaming inside and outside the club which was cool with me. Â Bartenders? I didn't experience since it was post 2am
SEATING: Tons of it...mostly strip club type cloth covered seats
BARS: Didn't experience (post 2am)
PARKING: Fine for me, but I imagine around midnight it would have been super packed.
FINAL COMMENTARY: Austin needs clubs like this...I didn't know about this place until a few weeks back so I take it thousands of others don't know about it. Â I've been spreading the word though...hopefully this place lasts and the crowd grows. Â I'd like to see the reputation go from "wasn't that a strip club" (which I hear ALL THE TIME from people who recognize the location when I tell them about it) to "that place is packed and so much fun"
I give it 4 stars for hopefully being a trend setter so those of us who enjoy the dance floor in an "Ibiza" style party mode can keep the party going.
i love the environment, the music and the ladies on the poles:) But, why is it free one minute, $5 per person the next minute, sometimes $10 and when i went saturday at 11:30pm they were wanting $20???? gimme a fluckin break!. we had 8 people with us. we were not about to drop $160 for us to just walk it!
Review Source:My husband and I have been to this club a few times because we live north and dont always want to drive downtown. Â We usually order a bottle and envite some friends to join. Â ALTHOUGH tonight we were about to meet up with our friends and the gentleman with the beenie (or durag) checking i.d.'s at the door had the nerve to tell my husband that his jeans were to baggy!!! NOW, I am all in favor of a dresscode but I felt extremely disrespected by his comment. My husband is not a small man to be wearing skin tight pants but to no extent were they to baggy. Needless to say we will NEVER BE BACK .......VERY DISAPPOINTED
Review Source:Well, Rockstars Cabaret didn't last too long here with the heavy cover. So Amnesia opened up around NYE and has kept the stages and clothed the GoGo dancers here (just a bit more) and wants to charge bottle service at a lot of tables on most Fri/Sat nights. Man, I just never see bottle service last long here in all the past upscale Austin club attempts. We'll see . . .
Don't get me wrong, I like it when Austin gets a dress-code-enforced place once in awhile. Definitely dig the hookah selection ($14/session) since that is so rare around Austin with the smoking ordinance nazis everywhere else. They have a good selection of flavored shisha to mix up. Don't forget to text "AMNESIA" to 25827 to get a free session before you come in! Drink prices are pleasantly shy of most up-club prices. Wait staff is kind of slow (typical up-club there, too). Decor is quite nice, especially VIP sections. Disappointing they keep your ID with your credit card the whole night like a strip club does and no itemized tab at the end.
DJ and system is pretty kickin. The dancers don't take their platforms until 10p and the crowd really doesn't roll in until midnight because weekends stay open to 6:00a! (no alcohol after 2a, of course). Which amazes me to one big problem there: PARKING. And tow trucks circling next door at Chapparal Ice rink so don't be tempted. So plan on Amnesia's valet after 10p and waiting awhile to get your car back when leaving. Feel sorry for the Spinners crowd next door. Girls tell me (again) that their other problem is BATHROOMS. Small and always totally trashed - NOT like a typical up-club. So do your biz before you come!
Please ignore the first review on here. This place is amazing. It was our first time and we were very impressed. The atmosphere is awesome, the drinks are great, everyone is extremely friendly, and they have some great specials. This is a new place but it's going to be around for awhile. It has a downtown feel to it. We were here on a Monday but we heard it's supposed to be a blast on the weekends so you better believe we'll be coming back real soon!
