Had breakfast there last week. This was our 3rd time eating there and I must say that the food is good when you receive it nice and hot. The issue is with the service. I honestly think that some of these well connected San Clemente family restaurants (this place qualifies) have the perception that the bare minimum with service is just fine. Antoine's is one of those places that has quite a name for itself and because of this, they know the business will be there. I think it's made the severs less concerned about actual service. What do they care? Me not coming back is not going to slow them down. Back to the food. As I mentioned, it's good even at luke warm temps. Two of us were in there last week about mid morning. There was nobody on the patio and the inside was maybe half full. We sat promptly and were also greeted pretty quickly. We each ordered coffee and it was delivered promptly, but the server walked away so quickly we didn't get a chance to ask for cream. We flagged down someone else so no problem. Our server came back, took our order and off she went. We did not see her again until our check was dropped. Food took a long time to be delivered. We both knew that something must have been up because it was just taking too long. Our server was nowhere to be seen so wait we did. Someone else finally delivered it and as mentioned above the food was luke warm at best. Our conclusion is that it sat in the window with nobody picking it up. The food was good, but a disappointing experience overall. Nobody ever checked back on our meals. The servers truly came across as though they were not concerned with guest service. They just walk around with a smile on their faces while doing their own thing. $40 for breakfast and two cups of coffee seemed pretty expensive in my opinion and at those prices service should be much better than what we experienced.
Review Source:Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to try the food here. I was meeting a friend from LA here for breakfast because it's the half way point from San Diego. My friend was stuck in traffic and I just had a horrendous drive in the rain. I went inside and sat at a table. The restaurant was empty except for 2 other tables. The brunette waitress walked by and I waved her over as I desperately wanted a mimosa after my stressful drive.
Me - Excuse me, may I have 2 menus.
Brunette server - Is the rest of your party here?
Me - No she is a few minutes away but I need a drink and want to order while I wait.
Brunette server in rude voice - Well until your entire party is here you can't sit down.
Me looking around empty restaurant - Seriously? You're not going to let me order a mimosa?
Brunette server - Its our policy sorry. You can wait up front.
Me -No thanks I'm out
Me calling my friend on her cell from my car - The server is rude and I'm not eating here.
I had a great brunch at another spot down the road and a wonderful visit with my friend while a very friendly attentive server brought us several drinks. : )
We used to live here and frequent Antoine's after a beach hike. Now I must stop by every time we visit So Cal! Madame herself works hard to keep this place top notch. (Chandelier in the bathroom? Awesome!) All the food is good, however I usually end up with the Avocado bagel. Messy, but delish! I love the French bistro feel but it's full of local artists renditions of this surfer town. Having TCM channel on TV is fun too! See you next time!
Review Source:Amazing French spot in San Clemente for a breakfast, brunch or lunch. Service is always awesome and on point. Make sure you go early if you want to get breakfast because it is a popular joint. Some of my favorites on the menu include:
-Breakfast Crepe
-Tuna Bagel
-Spicy Chicken Salad
-French Omelet
-Breakfast Scramble (off menu order) if you want something healthy.
The coffee is also always fresh and hot. One of my absolute favs in beautiful San Clemente!
This place really set the tone for my day. Sweet servers, my breakfast burrito was amazing, the coffee was outstanding and the people who go there (for the most part) are laid back, San Clemente residents; and the reason I mention the other customers is because an old man was walking out, saw I was eating alone and asked if I wanted his paper....of COURSE I want your paper, I am eating alone!
Thanks
Had  a great Sunday brunch here.  Wife had the veggie crepe and I had the crab omelet.  Both dishes were superb and came with crispy hash browns.  Service was really good.  All in all a very enjoyable and tasty meal. Â
Tip- If you're coming for brunch try to come a bit early; the crowd gets large around 11:30.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. A very cozy kitchen on the main road close the beach. I was able to take advantage of a check in offer too, I choose a free Cappichino. The staff was in a great mood and so were we.
We ordered up the breakfast croisant, egg sandwich $10 and the eggs benedict $10.both meals were really good as was my coffee.
I would have to say this house is a little more than an ordinary breakfast cafe. Love it here.
I'm only rating two stars for a couple of reasons. The food and the service.
We arrived for Sunday breakfast and the place was pretty busy. I requested a table outside because we had our doggie with us. We waited about a half hour before the hostess came out and said your table is ready...inside. No, I told her, I requested an outside table. OK., now we are back to waiting some more but that's fine, I realize they were busy.
We finally got a table. From the time we arrived to the time we got our food we had been there an hour. When the food did arrive it was cold, making me suspect it had been sitting out for quite some time. The food itself is bland and nothing to write home about. My omelet was watery and did not look like a three egg omelet. The hash browns were OK but the portion was kind of skimpy.
My real beef is with the service. Our waitress was not the problem, she was nice and polite. The problem was with another waitress who helped bring our food. She also brought us our silverware after I told her we didn't have any. When I noticed my english muffin was missing, I told her "my english muffin is missing". Â She answered "OK. DEAR" Â in rude tone that you would use with a three year old who has told you the same thing about twenty times and you were totally tired of hearing the same thing over and over and over. The tone of voice she used also communicated to me that she thought that I thought that my english muffin being missing was the end of the world. Well, I can tell you that I NEVER indicated to her that my english muffin being missing was the "end of the world". I am a very low maintenance restaurant patron. I never run the wait staff ragged and treat them like my personal servant the way some people do. I have worked in restaurants and dealt with the public during my college years and the way some people treat waitress's is a crime, and I NEVER run them ragged. All I requested was my english muffin! Â Well, maybe this waitress had heard the same thing over and over and over from other diners in the restaurant that morning, Â but that was the first time I had told her that my english muffin was missing. I didn't say anything to her but I was a little put off by her tone of voice and the manner in which she answered my request.
The second thing was the front desk hostess. I went it to request the key to the outside bathroom. Instead of handing me the key, she stood there and pointed to the key hanging on the side of a cabinet. You couldn't have stepped over half a step and handed me the key? Same thing when I returned it. I had to walk over and squeeze between a busy waitress to return the key while the hostess just stood there right next to the keys and stared at me. Definite lack of customer service.
One another note, San Clemente is a military town. If you see a young Marine there having breakfast with his lady, make his day and pick up his check. These guys don't make much money and they serve our country and keep us safe...show your appreciation!
I've been here before and liked it- but everything was so great this time that I think they deserve another review and 5 stars. The staff was so attentive and so incredibly friendly. Our server didn't miss a beat, she kept our ice teas full, she delivered everything we requested and she made timely check- backs. It's a bit pricey but really delish breakfast, I had an omelet and mom had the veggie crepes, we were both thrilled. I requested sliced tomatoes instead of hash browns and I swear they gave me an entire, beef steak tomato!
Great atmosphere, even though you are basically sitting in the parking lot on a busy street, the umbrellas and sea breeze made it fantastic. The bathroom needs to be updated but it was clean.
Back to visit and back to Antoine's as always! Â Got the new york omelet per usual, AMAZING of course! Â Blended mocha- SO yummy! Â The only gripe I have is the hashbrowns it came with. Â Actually ate some for the first time- very bland. Â I was disappointing! Â But you have to try the NY Omelet if you come here! Â It's not on the menu so ask!
Review Source:I just keep coming back! The food is good and the coffee is strong. The croissants are excellent. But the layout, the coziness, the decor, the location in the heart of bustling downtown SC, and the speed of good service - these are the attributes that make Antoine's a stand-out show in my eyes. I feel like a true "local" here. After your first café au lait and a lemon crepe at Antoine's, you'll start passing by the adjacent Starbucks whenever you can to come in here and sit at the coffee bar, in a booth or outside at a street table, savor the richness of atmosphere and the comforts of a French home, sit back with a local paper and drink in something so satisfying about this local cafe.
Review Source:Disappointing. We wanted to eat inside and switched out side and this was a huge issue for the staff. The Manager was rude. The food cold and they forgot our little boys food. When we asked, they were once again inconvenienced. We have tried eating here several times, and each time we come here it is the same.
Review Source:I came here yesterday for lunch with my cousin and her two friends. The decor is adorable - French-ish, but with a distinctly beachy vibe. I asked our waitress if I should get the one of the day's specials, Crab Benedict, or a Goat Cheese Salad... actually, I didn't even get to say the second choice because as soon as I said "Crab Benedict, or..." she said, "Crab Benedict", nodding her head vigorously. Hehe. It was delicious. SO good, in fact, that I pretty much dropped out of the conversation to focus on my plate of delish for what seemed like an eternity (it was probably about 10 minutes. Hehe.). My Orangina really hit the spot, too.
We did have to wait for a booth, but it was worth it. I'll be back the next time I'm in the area!
If you are visiting San Clemente, you have to stop and enjoy where the locals all go!
Comfortable, friendly service with a fantastic assortment of menu items. Â Can't beat their breakfast (breakfast burrito, crepes, or poached eggs our favorites). Â For lunch at Antoine's, salads, fish taco's, veggie burger, and the chicken sandwich . Â The coffee is the best in town and you never know who you'll bump into!
Love this joint on one of the San Clemente's  "main strips".
How can I not?!? Â The employees are kicked back. Â The decor is slightly mismatched. Â The food is amazing. Â The bathroom is located at the back of the building (have to go outside to get to it). Â The menu offers a plethora of food items.
Whenever I go here, I am drawn to the chicken sandwich on baguette bread. Â The sandwich is huge and the sweet potato fries are plentiful! Â Some of my other faves: Â eggs florentine, veggie burger, veggie melt on wheat, and nicoise salad. Â The meals are hearty, but not greasy nor heavy. Â
Also, there are a few tables outside. I love seating outside, enjoying the beautiful weather, people watching, while enjoying some wonderful food and great company.
What a great place to visit after a fun night out, but do not want to be in a food coma for the rest of the day!
Came here for breakfast a few times. Â The atmostphere is relaxed and pleasant.
The food is a little bland to my liking. Â And like other fellow Yelpers said, the menu is alright, Â nothing spectacular. Â Still a nice cute place to grab breakfast but don't expect much out of the ordinary..
After an exciting, slightly dramatic holiday hen night in Newport, my travel companion and I were looking for something traditional for breakfast fare. Â You know, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, etc., but we also didn't want Denny's. Â I guess you could say we wanted a place that resembled a sophisticated greasy spoon. Â I read the Yelp reviews for Antoine's, we decided to give it a try. Â Set the the gps and off we went.
Got there just in time...no wait. Â If we'd been there 10 minutes later we would have had a 15-20 minute delay in getting a table. Â The atmosphere and decor is above average...think surf joint meats Marie Calendar's. Â It was cozy. Â Service was friendly and quick, coffee was delicious.
I ordered my usual...buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon. Â I'm singularly focused at breakfast, I know. Â There were several other tempting options, such as the Eggs Florentine that my friend ordered. Â Confession, I also considered a bowl of biscuits and gravy or chicken fried steak. Â I blame it on the extra couple of mai tai's at Tommy Bahamas the night before.
Here's where we lose some stars...the food just wasn't that special. Â My pancakes were tough and that should never happen. Â Pancakes are meant to be fluffy and light. Â These were pretty dense, couldn't cut them with my fork. Â It should be a crime to serve pancakes that require knife usage to eat. Â Their flavor was kind of bland, too. Â Admittedly, my standards for tasty pancakes are pretty high since it's my favorite breakfast meal. Â I was sad.
My side of bacon was good. Â It's almost impossible to ruin bacon. Â The only critique would be that they were slightly overcooked. Â But delicious. Â I love pig.
My friend's Eggs Florentine LOOKED amazing. Â The presentation was beautiful. Â Bright red tomatoes, brilliant green spinach, perfectly white poached eggs over english muffins and covered in milky yellow hollandaise sauce. Â It looked so beautiful we both wanted it to taste amazing. Â Disappointingly, the dish was seriously lacking in flavor. Â The hollandaise sauce had zero flavor. Â How does that happen??? Â The food was entirely unseasoned.
Despite the underwhelming food, the experience wasn't entirely unenjoyable. Â As I wrote above, the coffee was delicious. Â I might be enticed to go back and try something else on the menu. Â Perhaps from the lunch side. Â The pastries looked good, too. Â Lord knows I have a sweet tooth!
Well... I've been here a few times and really want to like it, I just can't. The service is always good/great but the breakfast isn't even mediocre. Hash browns are always burned on the outside and soggy in the middle. (They even burn the toast on the griddle) It's like to cook doesn't know any temp other than high. So much oil used that even the scrambled eggs are kind of greasy.
A shame since it's a cute place and there aren't too many options in SC. I won't be going back after 3 'eh' breakfasts in a row.
I love Antoine's
Last Sunday they had an AMAZING flavored coffee of the day, it was the Pecan one (please try it). Â I had 3 cups!! Which is a lot for me, I was definitely on one after that.
The 2 times I've been here have been pretty heavenly.
First time, the BF and I met up with my darling friend who is now living in Chicago. Â She's a San Clemente native and recommended this place. Â
We were all very pleased with our choices: Breakfast Croissant, Breakfast Burrito, and Breakfast Crepe (in that order). Â
Second time around, it was just the 2 of us and it was yummy.
Lox Bagel: YES on an Everything Bagel, please. Â There was tons of smoked salmon on it, which I love!
Bacon & Eggs: Delicious as well. Â It was exactly what I needed to balance out the cold lox bagel.
Overall: I'm pretty pleased that I found a cute little place in San Clemente for breakfast.
Came here for breakfast because we heard some great things! Â There were some pros and cons though. Â I got the breakfast burrito, which was pretty good. Â When I asked the server why the $5 difference between the commuters burrito and the menu burrito, she was a bit rude and said we would not get the potatoes or service. Â If $5 gets me that type of service, then I think I would have stuck with the commuter's burrito.
The hostess was very polite and nice though. Â My husband got champagne with pomegrante juice. Â The champagne wasn't very good. Â They should really invest in some higher end champagne.
4 stars: cute place, very much of a breakfast joint. Nice people working there, yummy French bread
3 stars: decent fish tacos with fresh tortillas
2 stars: service was slowwww and we sat at the bar right in front of all wait staff. They forgot to refill our water, bring us salad dressing and we had to ask 3 people to order
God I love this place. Although, I have only been here for breakfast, I am sure their lunch is just as delightful because they use high-quality ingredients. Regardless of whether I get a special or just some bacon and eggs, the servers are extremely friendly and never pushy, which is nice since there is ALWAYS a wait. They usually offer three coffee choices, which is nice even though I always go for the regular, but if you like flavored coffee, it's an option for you.
While the wait to be seated might seem daunting, be sure to take a peek at the counter/bar area. It seems like no one ever wants to sit there because we walk right up and sit down pretty much every single time. If you have a small group, it's convenient and a little calmer since people aren't constantly rushing by your table in a small space.
How can you not love this spot?! The decor is kitschy and it's the kind of place that servers what I call "a big boy's brunch" meaning, eggs, bacon, toast, hash-browns, biscuits and gravy, and maybe a bagel with cream cheese (they are just missing the pancakes but they did have crepes so close enough). I'm not saying I can eat all of that but I'm also not saying I haven't eaten all of that in the past.
All of the food is excellent!! Not your typical greasy dinner, but fresh and vibrant food. What's even better is that you can pretty much order whatever you want, don't even have to look at the menu. I choose the Breakfast Croissant -two eggs, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Comes with hash-browns. Really hit the spot! Â
So I can see how the service can come up a little short. I think it's one of those places you can't come in starving, thought to be honest our waitress was great and the food came out pretty fast. So maybe it was good luck. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Grade: B
Relaxed ambience, short wait time on a Saturday morning (brunch hour). Friendly servers. Coffee was served while we waited. Parking via lot or street.
Ordered the eggs benedict and hubby ordered the biscuits and gravy.
Eggs Benedict: grade A, good portion, tasty, well-seasoned, eggs were poached very nicely. Would definitely order again.
Biscuits & gravy: grade B-, gravy was bland, needed extra seasoning, sausage was slightly dry but still pretty tasty, eggs were poached well, good portion, hash browns were also good.
Coffee (dark) was tasty, served during wait time.
Overall, we'll be back to try out some other breakfast/brunch dishes.
We were looking for a breakfast place that didn't stop serving breakfast early. Â I found a BOGO coupon for Antoines and we decided to heads down to San Clemente solely to have breakfast there based on all the good reviews. Â
I ordered pancakes with blueberries cooked into them and fresh fruit on the top. Â I got plain, cold, rubbery pancakes with fresh fruit on top no blueberries baked in to them. Â They server said she was sorry the kitchen made a mistake. Â My boyfriend said the pancakes were probably sitting there and they just warmed them up and brought them out 25 minutes later...
My boyfriend ordered the French toast and was also disappointed. Â He thought with the Farmers Market and other great shops nearby that perhaps they work with a local bakery and got fresh bread everyday for the dishes that have bread. Â Nope, the French toast was made from a regular loaf of bread from the grocery store. Â
Honestly, we could have stayed home, made something better, and spent less of our time and money. Â How disappointing. Â The only thing I liked was that they used fresh fruit on the pancakes rather than that nasty, overly sweet fruit compote.
Sorry Antoine's I will not be back :(
Yum! Cute little cafe w/ some good breakfast and lunch choices. I had the breakfast crepe, which had scrambled eggs, cheese, and ham all diced up. That came w/ hash browns, but they were kinda burnt. But we looked around it looks like they just do that... kinda weird.
My BF had been there before. He got the tuna sandwich w/ the cup of fresh vegetable soup. It was quite tasty. The soup was also very fresh, as advertised. We saw someone making the lattes and mochas and serving them in these big bowls that made us want them so bad! But we were pretty full and needed to head home so we didn't get any. :( Looked good though! Good food and pretty good service. :)
Went this morning at 10:00 am (a Saturday). Parking was easy out back. Walked right in and was seated at a booth for two with Mr. I.
He ordered: Poached Eggs on sourdough with hash browns and basil.
I ordered: French Toast with a side of fruit.
Both were delicious and we were not disappointed by the "hype".
The coffee was tasty here too, but something smelled like it was burning. Not sure if there was coffee burning on the bottom of the coffee maker somewhere - but that's what it smelled like.
I did notice something interesting on the menu --
Coffee of the Day: Regular, Strong, Flavored or Decaf
Since when was strong coffee an *option* at a breakfast joint? Nice!
Four other things I appreciated about this place:
1) Very clean
2) Turner Classic Movies on flat screens
3) Bar with nice tall chairs for sitting and reading the paper with your coffee
4) Soups du Jour list: chicken vegetable, french onion and something else I can't remember - just the existence of a soup of the day list always makes me smile
I'll be back to join the SC locals here next chance I get.
My love affair with Antoine's still burns bright. My husband and I frequent here for breakfast every few weeks, and, like the creatures of habit we are, always get the same things. We both order the French Toast - I splurge on a mocha, and the hubby gets two eggs (always cooked to perfection).
The wait can get longer on the weekends. We always go around 10:00 AM, and typically get right in.
The service is great, most of the time. We have our favorite servers there. A few visits ago, we brought family visiting from out of state, and encountered a server who was aloof and wouldn't look us in the eye. Haven't seen her around since, so maybe she's now gone...
Antoine's truly is a San Clemente gem.
Service was good, food was good (but not great), and the atmosphere was perfect for a brunch. I had the Avocado Quesadilla, and it was really good. Elsa had the Veggie Crepe, and it was just ok. Neither dish really had any sort of presentation in mind, but that's a small thing.
I would come back here again for beakfast, but the prices were a little high and the portions were a little small.
Great little breakfast cafe just past Del Mar in San Clemente. Â Usually quite busy so be prepared to wait a bit for a table. Â They serve breakfast into the afternoon and have a variety of options from crepes, pancakes and French toast to omelets and Eggs Benedict. Â
While I prefer their breakfast's, the lunch menu is also decent. They have a selection of tasty sandwiches, burgers and fish tacos plus a number of salad and soup options--try the French Onion!
Very busy little cafe on the weekends. Be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes. Interior is really cute with bright colors and is bustling with energy. You can opt to sit outside if you have your dog with you, although outside is only plastic furniture.
Menu is your usual offerings, but blackboard has eggs benedict, florentine and other specials. I thought the benedict was pretty darn good ... the muffin was toasted perfectly. The fish tacos were good, but not quite the kind you'd find in a taqueria. If you only like a sparing amount of onions and cilantro, let them know cuz they tend to pile it on high.
They don't have a kids menu so be prepared to just order your child a selection from the sides.
Service is spotty.
I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if in the area, I may come again.
3.5 stars.
I have been eating at Antoine's for 10+ years & never had a bad meal. Fresh & tasty for Breakfast or Lunch! They recently started serving dinner which is a culinary treat indeed!
I pay homage to their Eggs Florentine, the little woman likes the Fish Tacos & my gorgeous B devours their Quesada!
Antoine's is a family run eatery: The Mom & two sons work the front of house & the Dad is behind the seen.
For a truly amazing experience try their newly opened, more upscale restaurant on Del Mar called (Oh wait, never mind, I don't want the new place to get too busy! Where will I sit?)
This place is awesome!
It's a small "hole in the wall" type of place in San Clemente. Â We stopped by for lunch on our way to the Rainbow Sandals Outlet (which is less than a five-minute drive away).
They serve breakfast until 3 pm, so my husband ordered their 3-egg omelette with bacon, avocado, and cheddar. Â I ordered their albacore tuna melt which was absolutely delicious. Â Everything was super satisfying and tasted very fresh. Â The patron sitting next to us said that he's been going there for 39 years and that he would recommend everything on the menu!
We'll definitely come back the next time we're in the area.
