After a busy day in the mountains, we had a quest for a good draft beer. Local magazine led us to Appalachian Mountain Brewery and what a great time we had!!  I love IPA's so I was very happy with the two choices they had. The Long Leaf was delicious!  I was a little reluctant to try the Double IPA because of the 9% alcohol, but it was so doggone good !!!!  I had a taster and I was sold!!  My husband was more adventurous than I was in trying other beers (once you've had an IPA nothing else tastes right)!   He loved the wheat beer and the Honey Badger !  They are great summer beers.
The staff is extremely friendly. The brewery is a perfect place to stop off and enjoy a great craft beer!  It is a huge plus for Boone!!  We will definitely go back every time we are in the High Country!

Yes I am a fan for sure. They have a wide selection of brews and display what is available on a key ring that tells you a bit about the particular beer and its alcohol content. Lots of tables for sitting with friends. Great place for families and students and even us old folks. When the Feastie Boy Food Truck is parked out back it is a plus for sure. Nice interior. Also wine available if you have a friend in your party who does not drink beer. nice bathrooms! These people do it right.

While visiting Blowing Rock this past weekend we stopped by the Brewery. Tucked away behind the two story Wendy's is this rustic hangout for adults of all ages. There was corn hole outside and inside was a ton of seating at tables and at the bar. For $1 you can get a can of Peanuts to snack on. We tried a flight and I really liked 5 out of the 8 beers I had, which is very good. Everyone has their own taste when it comes to beer.
I can't say how much the flight cost as I was not the one to settle the bill, but their prices didn't look much different from the countless other breweries we've visited.
If you're in the area make it a point to stop by and support this local Brewery!

Finally...Boone has craft beer that you can get a brewery that is actually in the city.  Beer folk know what I am talking about :)

I am in "like" with this place and will visit each time I come to the High country.  I love most Asheville beers better but this place is new, the beer is good, and its a cool little atmosphere...in a warehousy location..as it should be.  Most good breweries today find spots in an unoccupied, low rent, old factory spot.

I tried two beers and sips of two others.  The Black Gold Porter is good!  Roasted malts...a little bitter...and opaque in color.  Good beer. I also tried their Belgian Golden which was nice. Not quite as Musty as some Belgians...solid.  Sipped the IPA ...wife said it tasted a lot like Green Man's in Asheville. I agree.  A solid good IPA that I will get next time.  My in-laws liked the brown.

Finally, I really like their vibe.  They had a cookout taking donations for a local community charity when we stopped in.  Also cornhole in the lot.  And some tvs for sports.

Finally, Don P.  the prices have come down from what I can see.  Seemed like $4.50 but I agree... Post the prices more prominently.

    Ill be back.

After becoming accustomed to breweries in the metro Atlanta area, this place was like a breath of fresh air. I supposed North Carolinian's are used to being able to purchase full pints at a brewery, but that's not the norm for your neighbors to the south.

The beer was great and the staff was very friendly. I see nothing wrong with a ~$4 pint of delicious craft beer brewed 50 ft from the bar. You get what you pay for.

We showed up on the  Sunday before Memorial Day at about 3pm with a group of about 14 and were able to grab a couple connected picnic tables with ease to seat the whole group. We had a server but members of the group also went and grabbed beer from the bar where they had initially started their tab. The staff didn't seem upset at all that we did that.

It looked like they were about to setup live music, but we decided to head out prior to the start of the music.

The next time I'm in Boone I'd definitely check it out again. I wouldn't mind picking up a few six packs of their Long Leaf IPA if it ever makes its way down to Atlanta.

This brewery has an awesome atmosphere. Even though we do not live in NC full time the locals were friendly and the beer was great. I would highly recommend stopping in to grab a beer.

wow, im in a quandry.  the beer is good, the prices atrocious.  a friend and I stopped by to try the brews.... as we do any time we're in a craft brew town.  I'm the idiot, but I expect a brewery bar is a way to expose craft beer to the public, not a massive profit center.   my buddy had a glass of beer ..... $6.50!!?!  really?  AT THE BREWERY???
I had a flight..... $12!!!!.  I asked the bartender about a visor..... he said $12.  well, the beer was good, so I asked for the visor ..... later I checked my bill.... they charged me $18!!!??! for it!.  MY STUPIDITY FOR NOT CHECKING THE BILL THERE!!!  so.... you see my quandry...... good beer, but BAD VALUE.  Poor business model if you ask me. So, I'll not be back, but the beer is good.

ASK PRICES BEFORE YOU START...... THAT WAY YOU DON'T FEEL RIPPED OFF.

Boone may be a faux-hippie university town, but I still never would have expected to find a craft brewery just around the corner from yet another Bojangles. (Seriously, is it a requirement that there be a Bojangles at least ever mile? What is up with Bojangles? And isn't that name at least A LITTLE problematic? These questions were never answered to my satisfaction.)

But! Onto the brewery. We showed up right at opening at 4pm, since it met our collective requirements of booze, good prices, and free wifi. I flipped through the little binder ring of brews to get a sense of the different options - porter, stout, IPA, amber, pale, I believe a Belgian offering and maybe one other style. My first choice was the porter, which was a rich black and fully flavored with coffee and chocolate. Thicker, I think, than a typical porter - edging up to the stout line - but very delicious. I decided to also try the amber, which was malty and delicious, and sampled the pale, which was crisp but still pretty low on the IBU scale. It was interesting to see the differences that come with regional brewing: the west coast style, namely CA/OR/WA, is to use a lot of hops and amp up that medicinal bitterness. These were definitely more mellow, sweeter, and had less bite. No kitchen here, but peanuts were a scant $1 and a food truck showed up a little later to dish out dinner to all the drinkers.

The building itself is really nice - brand new, lots of wood and concrete, with a back door that rolls up to expose a covered patio. I was very impressed by the overall space as well as the friendly service, especially since the joint just opened in February! I have no doubts that Appalachian Mountain and their tasty beverages will prosper in Boone.

Boone has hopped on the craft beer wagon with Appalachian Mountain Brewery, and this place does it well.  This is the ideal brewery for this part of the state.

The location is tucked away a little bit but as you approach it you will immediately know you are there because, odds are, the parking lot will be packed with cars. The tap room is fairly large with high ceilings and a warehouse feel that is similar to a lot of the other breweries in NC.  We were fortunate enough to be there for some live music on a Saturday evening and found the music to be good and the acoustics in the room to be pretty decent as well.  For those who aren't interested in the lively main room, there is a side room that is much quieter.  There is no kitchen at the brewery itself but there was a food truck on site that was serving up some pretty tasty-looking things.

You will find plenty of variety in the beer selections (I think there were at least 8).  You can purchase in pints, flights, or grab some growlers to take with you.  One of my favorite parts of this place is that a portion of the proceeds from each beer goes towards local charities.  This is an awesome idea and I commend the owners!  In addition to this, there is a focus on environmental consciousness and sustainability.  It is great to know that the folks at the brewery are doing good things for the community and it makes me happy to support them.

If you are in or around Boone, you must check this place out!

Have been here twice, but don't live in the area. Will stop every time I am in the area. Awesome Beers, my 2 favorites are the Black and Gold Porter and their Kolsch. Steve and team are great. You can buy a growler and take it home. Purchased a growler on our first trip and then purchased 2 the second time. Highly recommend them!!

Satisfying visit to a small brewery on the way out of town... This was one of our last stops during the Boone trip and it was a good one... We tried the flight and then each purchased an extra... The only one that sticks out was the Scottish Kilt Lifter...  Gotta love the name... It was a nice brown nut flavored brew with just enough bite to make it interesting... I ordered one of those and the boyfriend went with the Golden Nugget...  At 7.2%, not the highest percentage, but the highest they offer... lol  And it was a sneaker... It didn't taste nearly as potent as expected, which I suppose could be an issue... lol

The owner's husband's dad is a wounded veteran that makes handmade canes for other wounded vets and they're on display behind the bar... How awesome is that?!

Vacationing in "High Country" is a total 180 from living in the RTP -- mostly because it is country (just turn on the radio and listen to the dialogue of the locals), everything is spaced out, and it is a brewery desert. After wandering around the sleepy town of Banner Elk for good food and failing miserably, I was desperate to quench my thirst with good beer. Luckily, only 30 minutes laid between me and my lust for ale.

Location-wise, I was surprised that it wasn't out in a deserted warehouse district like many breweries in the Triangle. It's located down a dead-end street, next to the Boone Mall -- and it's not even a mile from App State! As we entered the place, my ears were filled with live bluegrass as I scanned the wood-laden room, filled with happy country folks and college kids downing cold brews alike on wooden picnic tables. They also had an enclosed and covered porch with heat lamps in the back.

I excitedly ordered a flight of five beers, which were only $6! I started off with the 163 Pale Ale, which was surprisingly not as bitter as I expected and citrusy. Next, I tried the Long Leaf IPA, which I quickly handed off to my boyfriend to drink (too hoppy). Third, the King's Kolsch, which was my favorite out of the five -- VERY easy to drink. The Black Gold Porter was dark and chocolatey, but a bit too thick than I desired that night. Last, but not least, I drank Yosef's Ale -- unfiltered, cloudy, and light. It placed in second in my taste book for the night. I loved gazing at the shiny fermenters in the back as I slowly sipped my brew on a stool at the bar. I also loved the variety of colorful, raw wood that lined the walls, as well as the bathroom (it was clean)! The service was also great -- quick pours from the attentive and friendly staff!

To me, this place is the heart of High Country, in which you truly feel the warm hospitality embrace you and, as the slogan states, you act local and drink local.

There is definitely no place like home.  That was my inner dialog while we were trying to find a legit place to grab a few local beers in High Country.  Thankfully Appalachian Mountain Brewery recently opened so we could get our craft brew on and enjoy a night out with the locals.  We  found the place with little issue, the only one arising as we were trying to find a parking spot.  The place was booming with business and we ended up mining a spot of our own.

The building itself looked to be previously an auto garage, but that would really open the brewery up during the summer when the heavy doors are rolled up.  They have a great amount of space for customers including an enclosed patio, a dozen tables inside and a long stretch of counter at the bar.

We found a place at the bar and the employees were eager to wait on us.  We ended up getting a flight for $6 of 5 beers- IPA, Pale, Kolsch, Yosef, and Porter.  Pints varied in price from $3- $4.5 and well worth the expense.

The Black Gold Porter was masterfully done.  Dark rich malts blended with a smooth hop undertone definitely defines the ability of AMB.

The Long Leaf IPA seemed to be the talk of the town.  A great sturdy IPA with plenty of IBU's, it'll make you suck the hop oil from your teeth.

The 163 Pale Ale offers a smooth citrus touch with modest bitterness.

The Kolsch is a beer they offer that drains from the pint glass quick.  A delicious German style with noble hops to accentuate its sudsy personality.

The Yosef is a great blonde ale, ironically unfiltered to really represent Mountaineers everywhere.

AMB is a much needed addition to Boone and they seemed to have been warmly welcomed by the locals.  Pay them a visit to try the beers and enjoy the live bluegrass while you're at it!
