Only giving 3 stars because Maggie the host was BOMB AF! Looks and personality wise. She wasn't even our waitress and she saved my experience from being complete ass. Let me tell you why.. Came here after school late night lab so let me tell you my friends and I were just about famished by the time we got there. Our server was a complete jerk. He came and just stood there and waited for us to speak to him. No name tag, nothin'. I thought it was a joke someone was trying to pull by pretending to be a server but nope! Each time he came, we would tell him what we want and he would do this weird shrug thing and shake his head like he doesn't know any thing. Like, okay? Next time I'll be sure to get a name AND avoid him.
Luckily Maggie the hostess was awesome, always creeping in jokes here and there and really turned that experience around. She even got a tray of jello shots from the bar and offered my friend and I one. The sex on the beach was TO DIE FOR. Perfect amount of alcohol and jello to compliment my so-so basket of riblets.
Overall the food is mediocre but really, people just go there for the drinks or because it's conveniently open so late in little ol' boring Milpitas.
I'll be back again probably on Wednesdays, woohoo Bingo night!
Walked in and place was sparsely populated. Â Least amount of people I've seen at this place. Â I point to a section with view of TV and ask for a booth. Â I'm told that I need to wait 5 min. to be seated so that I can receive faster service??? Â There were tons of empty seats. Â Bizarre.
Review Source:This review is based on their happy hour! Me and my girls wanted to grab drinks so we decided to go to Applebee's. We called and confirmed that their happy hour started at 9 PM. They also had Puzzle Mania night going on.
We seated ourselves at the bar and ordered. Bartender was friendly, and got us our drinks extremely fast. I'm not really much of a drinker since I'm allergic, but I actually enjoyed the swirl that my friend ordered. (Margarita swirl? It was strawberry mango flavored.) The alcohol taste wasn't too strong. (Some people like having a lot of alcohol in their drinks, but since I can't handle that much it was perfect for me.) The puzzles they had were crosswords and word search kind of things. It was fun, but we didn't win anything. We ended up having chats with the manager, I think. Not sure what happened, but we got a round of free drinks (yipee!). Also ordered an appetizer, the potato twists. They were good, but way too salty!
All in all, service was good. Bartender was attentive, and manager was nice. Would probably come back again for happy hour.
I can't believe I just spent $34 (including tip) on lunch at this place. Â They had these pick two lunch specials. Â One meal was $8.49 which included a very very small portion of soup and half sandwich that was so small it seemed like a 1/4 sandwich. Â The other meal, salad and half sandwich was also way too small. Â They give you enough food for a 5 year old. Â They have similar lunch deals at Chili's but you get wayyyyyy more food.
Service was ok, nothing spectacular. Â Food is a complete ripoff. Â Applebee's you really need to take a look around to see what your competitors are offering and either compete or do your own thing. Â There are sooo many places around you where you get way more bang for your buck. Â
I guess that is why there is no wait for a table during lunch...lesson learned. Â Will not be coming back.
One extra star was for the comfortable table that we had to sit at for an hour while waiting for our trial size portion of lunch to be served.
I sat here for almost a minute with my cursor over one or two stars. I had to factor in my recent visits and it has to be one star. My friend and I come here a lot after 9 pm. Sometimes when I need a drink it's here or Red Robin. And last night just made me not want to come here ever again.
I don't remember our waitress name, she was awful. At first we thought she was going to be great. But the damn basketball game had to be on and she gave all of her attention on that instead of us and her other tables.
But my steak was pretty good, I got their new steak and garlic green beans. I asked for it medium rare, in the middle it was medium at best the rest was well done. Look, I normally return over cooked steak, but it was still juicy, it was incredibly well seasoned so I ate it and it was damn delicious. There was a Rama tomato slaw that was so good, but I only got like three pieces.
However, our drinks were god awful. And we still hadn't gotten our fried string beans appetizer until I was almost done with my steak. We decided it took too much energy to ask for a manager who doesn't give a shit, and a waitress that cared less to complain about our experience.
My tip that I gave her? Honestly. 12 cents and a note on her receipt "Pay more attention to your guests than the game!" I don't write tips like that ever but it was that bad that I felt it needed to be done.
Overall, skip, skip, and SKIP!!!
The new dish on the 2 for 24 menu is disgusting. Thank God they let us swap it for a different dish. I went tonight and RICK/ALEX was kind enough to consider our very unsatisfied tastebuds. It was sad that my favorite appetizer was ruined 2x today too... They burnt the atichoke dip... Cant even recognize it anymore... They tried to replace it but 2 wrongs dont make it right...
I just cant say I liked this visit.
2 for 20, great late night snackage and drinks! its a deal!
I love Apple Bee's drink special! They had me at Berry sangria! You can't go wrong coming in here and enjoying the happy hours specials or even the 2 for $20. The staff is always so friendly. Price is good. Bathrooms are clean. The bar tender was super chill. He asked us 10 minutes before HH ended if we wanted two more ;) Talk about a good guy! A+ on customer service and seating in the bar area. I will be back tonight for another sangria and to watch the Golden State Warriors kick butt!
Review Source:Came here a couple weeks ago, ordered the sirloin steak . I always ask for my meat medium rare/ medium . Anyways the guy brought out my food and as I sliced the meat it was fully cooked and I hate my meat well done . So I quickly addressed that this wasn't how I wanted my meat cooked . Told the guy medium rare/medium. Waited another half an hour and by that time bf was already done eating his food and I was left with cold mashed potatoes and veggies waiting for my steak. Then the server brings my steak , plops it onto my plate and apologized again. This time I was hoping and praying that it would be perfect. I cut into my steak and the meat was red inside and it was extremely rare, I was soo furius . I know it wasn't the servers fault but the cooks, and I felt bad I was taking out my anger on the waiter, but come on now you messed up on how I wanted it cooked so after the third time I just said forget the steak!!! Just get me the shrimp and chicken burbon.
At that point the server was already going on his break and a new waitress was going to take over. So after waiting another half hour she brings out my food. At first it tasted okay but the more I ate it the more I noticed how disgusting the food had tasted because they had over seasoned the chicken with a flavor I didn't like too much.
Overall I've been to this location quite a few times, and food was good but after this incident I was very disappointed . Especially when the bill came and after being there waiting for my food for almost 2 hours, they couldn't even do the favor of taking something off the bill. Horrible customer service. One thing I hate the most is inconsistency. Won't be back here.
Would you like gnats with those fries? It was disgusting. But that is what I would write about all Milpitas establishments after sunset. The bugs and that horrible smell come out. We were covered in them. They were flying over our heads, etc. There has to be some way to keep them out of the restaurant.
Review Source:So I booked the hotel next to Applebee's so that the guests had something to do when they came in. I wanted to have my rehearsal luncheon here because I love this place. I love it even more now.
Before the wedding I spoke with the managers and asked if I could make my own menus to give to the guests which of course were based off of their menu. I didn't want to pay $30 per person so I chose items from the 2/$20 menu
They actually agreed!!! I made the menus myself and gave them to the hostess that seated us. She had them all around the tables for everyone by the time we all arrived. I was glad they were able to accommodate for all 24 of us. The servers did an awesome job and the manager even jumped in and helped. I was even happy when I noticed people ordering outside of the menu. I told the waiters to make the bill a separate bill for those ordering their own things, and they did!!! Woo Hoo!!!
I've tried to give this place a chance over chances but after 6x people this place is a FAIL! Yes YOU Milpitas Applebees!
*always mess up orders
*forget to provide plates extra utensils we need & when asked, we have to ask twice
*order a drink, they forget
*ignore you more than once
*at the bar, no one waits on you, unless you flag them down
*manager seems retarded
*everyone lost their common sense
Not sure what's wrong with this place but they need to be audited. I have given this place too many chances. Through out the years I've gone a total of 6x. Most of those times were family dinners and a date with the love, they all were bad experiences.
Service here was no good. Food wasn't too good either. Heres my experience.
1.The waiter hadn't checked up on us more than once the whole time, and flagging down someone for a refill seemed hopeless probably because they always seem more busy cramming more and more people into the restaurant instead of balancing it out so that people who are already seated get some service too.
2. I come here for the oriental chicken salad, either the wrap or the salad itself and its usually always pretty good. Not the last couple of times though, i can't really tell what they did different but i got some pretty bad stomach aches. It seemed much too dry.
3. Over Crowding! I know its not something someone wants to hear when they get to a restaurant like applbees and there's a 45 minute wait but if it has to be than it has to be. Its like they want as much money as possible that they are ready to sacrifice service and comfortably for the sake of getting their legal capacity to the max. Â Oh well though, i can live without that chicken salad anyway, not so difficult making a better one at home or maybe just getting one at safeway or something.
This is one of the standard issue options for coworker get-togethers, and for that purpose, Applebee's is fine. Â It's hard to beat their happy hour appetizer deals (1/2 off last time I went), and I believe there are drink deals as well. Â The sliders at $4 in happy hour are awesome, all things considered. Â You basically have a burger and fries meal for $4, which is better than anything you'll likely get at McDonald's.
I've never been particularly excited to eat here otherwise. Â Don't get me wrong, I don't think I've ever gotten anything that was bad here, but I've also never had anything worth discussing either, which is probably why I can't remember what I've ever eaten other than happy hour apps.
The service has always been generally solid here. Â They're usually pretty good about checking in on you and getting you what you need.
Applebee's is great for happy hour if you ask me. Â Other than that, I don't really come here.
What to say about Applebee's... your typical American chain restaurant...
I've tried several things on the menu, but I don't think it's worth writing a detailed review about since nothing at chain restaurants are SPECTACULAR. But I must note that it's not bad at all either. You can't really expect a 5 star dish from a place that microwaves/freezes their food. It's just OK! They make it up with decent prices with decent portions :)
Service here is always awesome. Although, I don't think it's necessary to have 100 people working at once (or that's what it seemed like).
I love that they have game night's here :) Last time I went on a Wednesday after 10P.M. and played bingo. YO GIRL WON A $10 GIFT CERTIFICATE!!!... that I lost somewhere :(
Happy hour menu is awesome. They have a good selection on discounted dishes and drinks. I believe it's after 9, but I could be wrong.
came in and waited about 15 minutes to be seated. i showed up with a group of friends right around midnight. the thing that is so great about applebees is that they are open past midnight so you can get a decent meal other than fast food places that are open.
we found out that it was bingo night and it was free. we all got bingo cards but we didnt win. if you do win though, you get a free $10 gift card that you can use on ur next purchase, so that's pretty cool. when we got seated, we were greeted by our waiter who was hella funny.
thats what made my experience here good, our waiter was hella chill. its one of those rare waiters that you get who checks up on you regulary, cracks jokes that you know you will laugh at, and even recommends some good dishes to try.
i did have bad experiences at applebee's but after coming to this one, i decided to give applebees another shot. the food was decent. i ordered the riblets and i did feel like it was a little burned but other than that, the service we received was amazing.
Went for lunch on 2/21
Was seated very quickly
Noticed the paper napkin had stains on it
Table was sticky
I ordered a cheeseburger (I ordered it rare)
My friend ordered Chicken Caesar Salad
Cheeseburger came very very well done (dry)
Chicken Caesar salad looked like it did not have much dressing (if any)
Waitress came by and ask how everything was - I mention that the cheeseburger was very well done - she offered to have another patty cooked - I said ok
Replacement patty came, it was better but still 1 second from well done
Manager came by to see how replacement patty was - so I told him it was better, but still was well done - he apologized and offer a mini dessert for each of us.
He noticed how little (if any) dressing was on the chicken Caesar salad.
Dessert came - waitress brought two used spoons (the back of my spoon had parsley flakes on it) - waitress apologized and said it was her fault.
Restaurant was about half full - not sure why or what has happened to business here.
2 for $20 is no joke. That is quite a good deal. 2 entrees and 1 appetizer. I do enjoy their happy hour every night is a different deal. Do not get their jello shots even from the girl that tries to entice you to do so. The positive of that is it is $1. The negative is that there is probably $.25 worth of alcohol in there. Anywho, I do enjoy the steak with veggies and mash potatoes. The boneless wings are a good appetizer to choose as well as the queso or artichoke dip.
Review Source:I like coming here for cheap drinks and food but.... Sometimes drinks are WEAK and last night the food took way too long for just a sampler ...)) That's like already made!!!!! Â )) And my waitres DOMINIQUE forgot to bring back my Long Island !!!!! And yesss I did have to pay for that drink....
Review Source:Good business lunch location. Â Got there around 1130 am on a Friday and got seated right away and restaurant was pretty full when left about an hour later.
Hostess was friendly and server Steven was on top of things. Â Got the sandwich/salad and soup/entree lunch specials. Â Portions were a little lunchee size so guess to be expected. Â My dining partner said chinese chicken salad missing usual dressing.
Minuses - Steak knife was dirty and restaurant seemed overly cold but was seated next to window and has been unusually cold lately outside.
I would come back again for lunch.
Well! Apart from the dessert we ate, I haven't eaten any food here or any other location of the chain.
I however believe that happy hour or not Alki(alcohol) here is real cheap and that makes me very happy!
On the particular night that my gfs n me hung out here, teo of us got the long island ice tea- so yumm n so strong! The third friend got herself a vodka tonic as she had to drive and we had just finished dinner at Wangs. It was just the perfect evening to drink, relax and make plans for an upcoming wedding.
The service here is not too bad. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very quick in fixing our drinks. Will keep going back. Can't say no to cheap booze..
Service here was practically nonexistent. Got seated by the lady at the front, and then waited 10min before we realized that no one was going to help us, so we had to flag someone down. Turns out he wasn't in charge of our table and couldn't even get us water, and passed us on to someone else, who also said our table wasn't his - of course it wasn't! If it was, we would have a waiter! Anyway, throughout the meal, we saw our "waiter" three times - once to finally take our order, once to check our waters, and once for the check - and we were there for a good hour or so.
Started off with the spinach artichoke dip - while it looked appetizing, it was stone cold in the center. The chips that came with it were crunchy and warm, but that's not saying much since I can get that by microwaving my chips. For the main courses, I had fish and chips, and I tried a bit of the steak as well. The fish and chips were good - nothing to complain about there. The steak was ordered medium-rare, but it looked almost well done - no signs of pink in the middle or anything - that was disappointing.
Summary:
Food: 3/5
Service: 1/5
Overall: 2/5
Here I go again going to another chain Restarurant, and thinking I am just going to get an average meal and service. Â I was half right on this visit, I would jut get an average meal, it was what you expect from Applebee's menu, but what set this apart from my other visit was the service I received, the waiter that serviced me that day went out of his way to make sure we had drinks and they were checked often, the food was done right, and we had everything we could possible ask him for but without asking him. Â That alone would make me come back for another visit sooner than normal. Â Thank you for your service, but because of the average food I am only going to give this review 4 stars, maybe in my next visit everything will be outstanding.
Review Source:Veggies were microwaved steamed but still came out cold and hard.. Â Carrots was hard as rocks and brocoli was cold and crunchy. Â Steak was SALTY!!!!!! Â Potatoes were BLAND. Â No flavor.
The waiter was great. Â The service that we had at the time was good but the food was not up to par. Â Applebees used to be great. Â I remember coming here to order the blackened chicken. Â Now, they no longer have that on the menu. Â
Something happened with this chain of restaurants. Â Either they are losing money or they are just more interested in cutting corners.
My friend liked the chicken pasta. Â So it may be just my meal that was not up to par.
Katrina is a rockstart...the service was great.
In the world of franchise, service makes it work. The food is similar, and the prices are the same..so, what makes the diff is the service..
The food was hot, and tatsy, the drinks (water and iced tea) you can not screw them up..but the service...
The 24 dollar lunch is just right - food, salad, for two..well, can not beat it.
Prompt was Katrina..elegant in her approach..sweet in her smiles..efficient in her delivery..pefect in her checkin on us..and by the way - very honest
I left my blue tooth at the table..Kat (that my name for her) came out to the parking lot and cought  us as we are to pull out...Now, that is a well raised lady, who has earned 6 stars...
Meh, this place is alright. Â The food is decent and the service isn't horrible... but I really can't give them higher than 3 stars. Â
Biggest pet peeve: sucky happy hour specials. Â They don't let you know everything that is a HH "special" and then when you DO order something that's at a special price, you can tell its watered down. Â
Decent but I'm not running over.
This place is OK. Â I've come here before for the 2 for $20 deal and that's pretty much the only reason I ever come back, because it's cheap food.
Mediocre service and plentiful mediocre food.
Pros:
Cheap food, the 2 for $20 deal (for an additional $2 , you can get a heapingly larger portion of chicken tenders or riblets) - 1 platter is enough to feed 2 adults
Food comes out quickly
Cons:
Customer Service could be improved
Food is just 'OK'
Wait time for dinner on Fri/Sat can be ridiculous
If they were to ever get rid of the 2 for $20 deal, I'm not sure many people would come back.
Gotta love their 2 for $20 deals, lots food for a good price. Plus, they are always adding new dishes to their deals. I usually get their 7 oz. house sirloin with veggies/baked potato which is very satisfying; however, this time, I decided to try something new on their menu. I got the bourbon street chicken & shrimp and regretted my decision. I was so disappointed, their was no flavor whatsoever in the dish, everything was just bland. I guess I'll be sticking to my regular pick next time I'm here.
The service was whatever. The appetizer took longer than usual and our server was rarely checking up on us. My empty glass of water was sitting there forever waiting for it to be refilled, only when we were about to leave did it happen.
As for their drinks, their white peach sangria is oh so yummy! It has white Zinfandel with peachtree schnapps, pineapple juice, and lemon-lime soda. It was so pretty too!
So your'e a vegetarian and have found yourself by some quirk of fate at Applebee's. You are already seated and the friendly server hands the menu to you. You smile back and then open the menu and start giving it a look over. And then you gasp in despair. It's too late to head out to the exit and the friendly server is already at your table, ready to take your order.
Don't panic.
- Though it's not on the menu, Applebee's does offer a vegetarian pesto thin crust pizza. I've had it a couple of times and think it tastes quite ok.
- Â They do offer a soy burger choice, so order any regular burger, substitute soy patty
for meat
- Â Binge on the appetizers if still hungry. The mozzarella sticks served with marinara are quite tasty.
And that is how this vegetarian has made it through a meal at Applebee's in the past.
Okay.
Now I used to not dislike Applebee's so much as I do now, but wow.
It's just..bad. Â Like REALLY bad.
I came here with some teens from my church for dinner after a practice and the first thing we are greeted by at the door are a pair of smart mouths. They asked us how many and then asked if we were sitting at the bar. I said "No" since we were just there for dinner and I had minors with me. And the guy goes, "What you don't drink? We don't serve your kind here!" The other one adds, "Yeah it's happy hour. Don't get your panties in a knot." ... uh... WTF? Offended, I turned around to leave, but my friend told me to just ignore it and so we went in.
Luckily our server wasn't so prude, so I expected our dinner to be decent. EXCEPT... the food was figgin horrible! Let me explain...
So Applebee's has a similar menu offering as Chili's and our group frequents Chili's like every week. This week we wanted to go to a new place, but out of habit, we pretty much ordered the same dishes we'd order at Chili's.
I shared a 2 for $20 deal and got the Baby Back Ribs and my friend got the Steak. When they brought it out, the "Ribs" were minuscule compared to the ones at Chili's and not only that ... it wasn't even ribs! Instead of having a nice rack of bones to sink my teeth into, the bones were cut perpendicularly! So it was like eating a thin piece of meat with little bones in it. The marinate was overly sweet for my taste AND the meat was all stringy.
Oh and the steak... my friend asked for it to be cooked medium rare and what came out was a tiny, chewy, & tough piece of protein gum. Cooked properly, the meat is supposed to be pinkish all the way through. This one was a gradient of dark to pink to blood red in the middle. Ew! And my favorite thing to order, loaded mashed potatoes, was so bland and pasty that i couldn't even finish it! Usually the ones at Chili's comes with cheese, bacon bits, chives & a nice garlicky taste. All I got here was some mashed taters with the skin all mixed up in it - which I personally hate.
I could go on and on about what was so disappointing about this dinner experience, but I'm sure the point has been made. Awful food & awful service, Won't be back. Ever.
Late lunch/early dinner for 7 (including the grandparents) on a Saturday in March.
- Had 2 elderly (~90 y.o.) people with us and were sat almost all the way at the back of the restaurant (though thankfully they walked us up the ramp and not the stairs)
- There are only a handful of things on the menu that are below 800 calories, everything else is almost a day's worth of calories in one meal
- Cocktails are meh
-Service was slow overall
-I seriously don't understand why anyone would come here for the food
I want to give our waitress some props, I really do. Â We tried to be friendly, and so did she. Â She's got civility down for certain, she was never blatantly rude, so that's a plus, but...
If you seat 90 year olds right under the a/c vent and even the 16 year old who is with them is getting cold and the group requests that maybe the a/c can be turned down or off or just block that vent, could you at least *mention it* to the manager?? The grandparents had to put coats on for cryin' out loud, the honey and I were cold with ours left on - people shouldn't be freezing during their meal. Â When you walk outside in March and you start to feel warmer than you did inside, there's an issue.
Admittedly there was an interaction with the grandfather regarding receiving drinks before we leave that may have made service for us after this point even less of a priority for this waitress, and I guess I wouldn't blame her for that so much, but it was still painfully slow. Â We had to ask for 3 more place settings at least twice. Â My honey even got up and got a to-go box for the grandmother himself after the request to the waitress went ignored. Â
The honey and I call this chain "crapplebee's", though honestly I think this is the only Applebee's either of us has ever been to. Â We avoid it ourselves, but the grandparents and the honey's folks love the chain so we went because they wanted to, but none of us will be back to this location after this trip.
I rightfully had low expectations.
Mozzarella Sticks - little worse than frozen kinds available at a costco near you
Honey BBQ Classic Wings - same. Â wings were fully cooked at least. Â the bbq sauce was good
Spinach Artichoke Dip - probably the best thing I tasted here. Â hated the chips though
Garlic Steak - flavor was fine, but was not uniformly cooked, and certainly didn't come out medium overall. Â if you absolutely must have some steak, and you're stuck here, I'd suggest medium-welldone. Â I was planning to share at least a bite, but I didn't feel comfortable offering/sharing food of that quality. Â Friend's well-done steak had a disturbing amount of black on it.
Fish & Chips - average, I guess. Â fish didn't have much flavor, fries were fries
Service was pretty good for a busy Friday, but the periods of time where my beverage was empty were a bit long. Â Food was generally slow to come out. Â My dear friends, please do not drag me here again.
