Their Chicken Tikka is pretty good. Staff was very polite and they're always there if you need anything. I'd definitely recommend this place!

I went for the lunch buffet. The tandoori chicken was hot and tasted good. So was the naan that was delivered to the table. But the other items were not hot at all. Especially the  snack items(bonda, pakora, chicken 65), if they are cold, they don't taste good at all. There was only bones in the goat curry. The chicken biriyani was not restocked.
Also, naan was not served again nor was able at the buffet zone. The deserts were no good too.
The service was also mediocre as it took a long time for them to refill drinking water.

Overall, it was not great for the price and would not return.

Been here twice now, once for lunch buffet, another time for dinner. The decor and layout is similar to Iravat (I think they might be owned by the same family) The menu has a nice selection of vegetarian and meat based dishes. The buffet choices were a little sparse the day that I visited, but there were plenty of people eating and I saw the staff refilling it on a consistent basis.

The tandoori chicken had a great flavor, and the goat curry was nicely seasoned. Chicken tikka masala on a different visit was okay, but lacked some heat, even when ordered medium spicy. Naan was good, if not particularly fantastic. Service was fine, water was refilled, and we were checked on a few times without being intruded on. Ashoka, it's not great, but it's not bad either.

Ok when I first walked in it smelled really good, but that was about the only enjoyable thing for me. I love indian food but eating here was really off-putting for me. I dont know how to explain it but a lot of their dishes tasted as if someone dropped the whole seasoning shelf in the pot. It was either way too overwhelming or extremely bland. I was kind of happy that my $9 wasn't completely wasted since they had fresh naan, but even that was just average tasting. I dont want to say that the staff was rude because frankly I barely had an opportunity to talk to any of them. When I asked for a refill of water the waiter said yes and walked in the opposite direction of where they kept the water pitchers. Then I watched him help another table who asked him for refills on their cokes which he was very quick to attend to.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, EVER! Nor would I ever dream of coming back.

    Review based on Takeout.

I placed an order for two entrees on a Saturday night.  The person over the phone told me it would take approximately 20 minutes for my order to be ready.  The order was a Chicken Makhani & Sheesh Kebabs and the rice and naan accompany both entrees.  The price is on par with the average Indian restaurants in the area.
I make it to the restaurant in 20 minutes and then had to wait another 10 minutes because the food was not ready, no big deal since I was hungry and I could wait another 10 minutes.
I bring the food home, my wife and I say a little prayer.....Please god, this food we are about to eat is at least average!

Eating Indian food in the DFW is like a crap shoot, you never know how good or bad it will be until you roll the dice.
The wife and I agreed the food was quite edible.  It is not the best nor is it the worst.  The quality could be better but all in all, it was not bad.  Their rice on the other hand is mush, it's not fragrant basmati rice.

Would I order here again if I was craving Indian?  Probably
Would I bring family and friends here for a nice Indian meal? Not so much.

After living in NYC and Boston and having some pretty awesome Indian food, we didn't think we'd be able to find a place here that we liked as much. After a few different places, we tried Ashoka and we love it. We only do the lunch buffet because we have a two year old and you just never know what he'll eat, but we have never been disappointed. We've brought several visitors and each loved the place. The service isn't spectacular, but it's definitely not bad. And while we might not like every dish we've tried, we have always found multiple things that we enjoyed and always leave just a bit too full.

So I'm tossing this place two stars instead of one because maybe some of my issues are more the result of culture than quality. Caution - those with squeamish stomachs should not read this review.

My wife and I now refer to Ashoka as the Goat Barn. We visited one afternoon for the lunch buffet and one of the dishes, made from goat meat and stewed in a think brown sauce, seemed as though it had been prepared with a wood chipper. The meat was not well butchered and both my wife and I manged to serve ourselves rather large chunks of bone - meat, sinew and veins still attached. Veins large enough that the sauce collected in them and could be seen to run out and back onto my plate when lifted on the fork. We thought surely there was a horn or hoof to be found, but no joy (fortunately). The meat not attached to the bone was fatty and/or grissly causing my jaw to rebound from each bite as though I'd bitten into a Super Bouncy Ball. Three or four bites later I had to put that goat to pasture. The other buffet items were marginal with several being oily and marginally edible. Naan was good, staff was marginally attentive, cost was more than I'd have liked for the quality.

I'm headed to the fields to check my herd...

The Chicken Manchurian with fried rice was gross. The chicken and sauce were oily. The fried rice had peas and carrots that were still FROZEN!! Samosas were average but the dipping sauces must have come from a jar. Do not waste your money.

I love this place for dinner.  We get pretty much the same thing everytime, an appetizer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Spinach Saag, rice and naan bread.  $28 for dinner and plenty of food left over for lunch.

We have only been to the lunch buffet once and didn't care for it too much so we save this place for our dinner.

This is my go-to Indian restaurant. Mostly due to it being the only one around close enough to my house, but also because the food is good.  I love the veggie manchurian and the chicken vindaloo.  You can pick to have it mild, spicy, or really hot which I like.  Their Naan bread is really good too.

I always do take-out so I can't speak for the service other than my food is always ready when i get there and they are generally nice.

The food is decent and affordable- my daughter and I had lunch and the bill was just $15. I'm generally not a fan of buffets but they do a nice job here. The naan bread was good and warm. Service was good, our waitress was funny and was amused that my 4 year old ate everything off her plate "you like spicy Indian food!?!?!?"
    -What's not to like?

Typical average Indian fare. Nothing to get excited about. The buffet is never hot. Luke warm food at best. Friendly staff, but not particularly attentive. lack-luster, but it's there.

Some of my coworkers took me to Ashoka, because they were dying to find a new Indian restaurant by our office. On this first trip, the food was great... it was really flavorful and the variety at the buffet was more than I have come to expect from Indian restaurants.

Sadly, when my wife and I went back a few weeks ago, the food was bland and luke-warm on the buffet. The vegetable pakora wasn't prepped well and some of my pieces were fried with the UPC sticker still on.

I'm willing to give them another try, but I am afraid they are going to be a place that is hit-or-miss.

I am new to Indian food and the food here is awesome.
I am a vegetarian, so they have a lot of options for me. The tiki masala (I think?) is DELISH. All of the chutney's are good.
I went to this place 2 days in a row this week.
    Love it.

Sorry disappointing tasteless food. Ambience literally stinks.

My coworkers and I go here about once or twice a month for the lunch buffet. It's pretty small and their selection on the buffet is not very large but for the price and quality you could do far worse. I love the chili chicken and the donut balls in warm honey. Their service is pretty good too.

Went here for lunch buffet. Price was good..$8.95 I believe.

Food was good, not great but then again I am Indian so my expectations are pretty high for Indian food.

The chicken 65 was great, chicken tandoori could be better. Very fatty chicken so that kinda sucked. But service was good, always had fresh naan ready. Veggie curries were good, dessert was excellent.

There are better indian restaurants, but if you are in the area you will not go wrong with Ashoka's

Not good! We have been here a few times and it's just meh.. not particularly tasty or spicy like most indian food. The rice was hard, dried out.
What's worse was the service!!!! Terrible!! -DIDNT KEEP WATER FILLED
    1. we asked how much the buffet was since it's not posted anywhere, and he said 8.95, then changed it to 9.95, we ended up getting the ticket and it was 11.95 each. he didn't even seem to know and that is EXPENSIVE!!
    2. **we have severe nut allergies and we have asked MANY times and were always told there were no nuts, then today we asked and were told there's nuts in EVERYTHING... SO INCONSISTENT with their knowlegde! There definitely could be a lawsuit on their hands!! They were also UNWILLING to accomodate and make a dish without nuts UNLIKE MOST other places!!
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! GO DOWN THE STREET TO MASALA WOK---WE WILL!!

The food is good.  Again, most of the stuff on an Indian restaurant's menu is unpronounceable to me so I can't even tell you what I had but each item I ordered was full of flavor.

I had medium spice in my food and while it wasn't overwhelming, I think getting the next level up would've been something I could've regretted later last night.  I try to keep my ego in check when I'm in an Indian restaurant.  I can handle most of Thai spices but, for some reason, Indian spices knocks the tan right out of me.

It kind of irritated me that they didn't have a drinks menu and that the waiter was a little hard of hearing.  Other than those two minor discrepancies, this place is alright.

...But I still much prefer the Taj Chaat House over to this place.  I mean, it's cheaper and had a more authentic kick to it.

Yes, I love Ashoka. I lhave tried Biryani's, Paneer Masala, Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala; everything is good.
I also love Chilly baby corn which used to be super awesome, but degrading day by day. But thats okay...
I like the servers there but not the Music.
Ambience nice, parking good, Food best!
Its always nice to go there unlike Sutra by Vijay Sadhu!!

I was driving around looking for a place to have dinner and came across Ashoka.  I needed a place with dim lights because my eyes were very sensitive that day, so we asked the waiter if they could turn off the wall lights since it was so much extra lighting in there.  The manager did it without a problem.  I actually think it looks a lot better in there at night with fewer lights on since it gives a better appeal.

I first ordered a samosa to start off with.  I was not happy about how hard the samosa was.  It was not normality for me, as I am learning my true love for Indian cuisine.  To think that half a year ago I had never tried Indian food, and now it is at the top of my food interests.

Next, I tried the Chicken Manchurian.  It was not very good to me, but since it was my first time having it, I can't base it on rather it could have been better or not.

I then went for my favorite, chicken tikka masala.  I've had way better at other places, so I was not wowed at all at this place.  The curry lacked flavor and the chicken was on the tougher side.

Overall, my experience was alright, but I've had much better food.

My first time at Ashoka was a mixed-bag experience.  I ordered two entrees to go, chicken biriyani and the tandoori chicken.  The biriyani was delicious, full of chicken and flavor, though a little too spicy (even after ordering "mild").  The tandoori chicken, however, was either old or overcooked.  It was too dry and hardly had any meat. I expected tender, soft chicken, especially after the chicken had supposedly been marinated in yogurt overnight.  The basmati rice and naan were as expected.  I am going to try another Indian restaurant nearby since they seemed to have a combo of Indian and Pakistani food, which I prefer.  If that place has biriyani that is just as good, I may not be back.  BTW, their service was good and they were very precise in taking the order.

I accidentally walked into the back door of this restaurant instead of the front door when I first visited.  I caught a glimpse of the kitchen which appeared reasonably clean.  That's always a good sign.

After finding the front door on the opposite side of the strip, I picked up my take-away order.  I tried their Palak Paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala.  Both were quite flavorful and not too spicy for a Texan.

I like that their dishes come with both rice and naan.  I have not tried the buffet, just take-away for dinner.  The employee who took my order was courteous and got my order exactly right.  My order was ready in only 15 minutes.  I expect I will go back again to try more dishes.

This was a fairly nice Indian restaurant considering they are normally "mom and pop"  type establishments. It was a buffet style lunch and the food was very vibrant and colorful - very good presentation. The food was good but not very hot. The waitress was attentive but not friendly. Eh, pretty average place in the grand scheme of things but seemed to be nice for an Indian restaurant.

I really like this place. I have eaten there & ordered off the menu and also eaten the buffet a few times. I got take out for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was delighted to find out that my dish included a complimentary container of rice kheer. Theirs is very good. They also included naan and rice, which I would expect, but I didn't expect to find the tasty rice kheer at the bottom of the bag. I love the Aloo Gobi Masala and I think all of the vegetarian dishes on the buffet are good too. Their prices seem very reasonable to me. I'm becoming a regular.

This place is really good and I love the lunch buffet.  The chicken makhani (butter chicken) is awesome!  I can't get enough of that stuff.  The naan is truly the best that I've had (along with Iravat).  Apparently Ashoka and Iravat off 75 and Legacy are by the same owners, which explains why they are so similar.  All around I really enjoyed what they had on the lunch buffet.  My wife had chicken tikka masala and I had a few bites and it was really good as well.  Which reminds me, you can also order off the menu during the lunch buffet if you like.  The lunch buffet there is about $11, which isn't bad, especially when you can knock down a few plates quite easily.

This is one of our regular lunch stops so I definitely owe them a review.  Decor makes me want to move in as it's warm and serene.  Tasty food and pleasant service.

I love playing "what could THIS be?" and they definitely ring that bell every time.  I have never ordered from the menu as we generally come for the lunch buffet.

I love anything with Paneer in the name--as I understand it, that's a hard cheese, which I had thought was tofu!  Veggie dishes are standard as are a plethora of meat choices.

My carnivore guys love hot and spicy and their buffet surely delivers on that but I prefer warm and spicy and that's abundantly available as well.  The Naan is a serious threat to dieters everywhere.  We were introduced to this place by an Indian coworker of my husband who is a vegetarian so it makes a great go-to place for their business get togethers.

Folks who think Taco Bell is too spicy need to avoid this place but the rest of us love it.

I went there today at 7pm after a long flight having ordered two yummy looking burgers at a bar between flights, unfortunately I didn't get to taste it because of my misunderstanding of time changes between states. ( had no clue my phone was on airplane mode therefore it doesn't update the time.) so I ran to the gate in disgust as my burgers are being cooked and eaten prolly by the rude waiter who took my order. I was starved from morning til 7pm!!! So being said I was angry and starving. Luckily it turns out bc of this incident I discovered this lil place which I knew was there but scared to try. It is a bit off road so you don't see it very well. I tried the chicken brianni ( don't know how to spell it but sound it out ) and the lamb vandaloo? Man great stuff!!!! Just make sure u mix in all the sauces they give you. I was impressed! Looks like I found a new place to fill my curry demands in my moments of weakness!! Eat there people!! I want to see this place stay open!

First of all, I will preface this review by saying that I am no expert in authentic Indian food.  But as I work in the IT Industry, I have a lot of Indian coworkers who run the gambit of traditional vegetarians to the more Americanized meat eaters.  Between all of us, I think we've hit all of the Indian restaurants in North Dallas, and the consensus is that Ashoka India's Bistro is on the Top of the Charts.

I have been here for both Lunch Buffet, as well as done their dinner take out, and I have never had a bad experience.  Their lunch buffet always has an assortment of delectable treats for carnivore and vegetarian alike.  Really, if there is a complaint, its that they're pretty consistent on their buffet choices, not really mixing up the selection much.  But given the number of choices and the variety of flavors, this isn't that big of a problem.

Speaking of spices, I have to say that Ashoka knows how to not only give you the traditional spicy fare, but they make sure the food has the necessary savory quality to enhance that spiciness.  When you taste their food, you get to experience all of the flavors, before the spice slowly creeps in and finishes off the experience.  I'm no heat lightweight, but there are dishes available to make me break a minor sweat.

And to compliment the entrees is fresh naan, flavorful samosas, and an awesome rice kheer to name a few.  And if you're smart, do not forget to order yourself a glass of mango lassi.  The service can be lacking at times, but they will never ignore you.  After being a regular at the former restaurant at this location, (Indya Fusion) I have to say the Ashoka is a welcome additional and some of the best Indian food available in North Dallas.

I went to this place last Saturday for lunch buffet.

The buffet is horrible, the appetizers were cold, there are no south indian breakfast items in appetizers, very few items overall there were15 items in buffet, out of which there were 2 soups, they tasted yuck.
malai kofta curry was very bad.
In desserts they had gulab jamun and custard, gulab jamuns were good but custard was tasteless.
I would never go to this place again.

I saw a review in Google's system that was pretty scathing of this place for being "not very authentic". Myself, I'm not an Indian food expert, and I'm sure that I'm more Americanized than I think, but either way, I like the food here. It's owned by the same family (as I understand it) as Iravat India's Bistro towards the east in Plano at Legacy and US75. The fare and surroundings are very similar: A modest quantity of dishes, but good on quality. The tikka masala (I know, NOT Indian :) ) was quite good, as was the tandoor chicken. They had a fish dish that was interesting; little fish nuggets, battered lightly and fried, in a toss with jalapenos and onions. Spicy and good. Goat curry was big on flavor but small on meat; it takes a bit of work to get your gold here.

The naan, as at Iravat, is fantastic. Cooked in a tandoor as you watch, it's very flavorful and is perfect for "sopping up" the sauce on your plate (if that's too redneck, I'm sorry).

Dessert is either a nice rice pudding, fresh fruit or those awesome little cake balls in syrup, the latter being a member of the USDA's "crack" food group.

Bottom line: Don't pass it off as 100% authentic, but I do see Indian customers here, so it can't be that bad. For this American, though, it's good stuff.
