I go here about 3 times a year, and it is always the same. Â The place is a little tired (think it was last updated in the 80s--the same as most of the patrons), but the wait staff are always friendly and attentive. Â The beer is cold and reasonably priced. Â Have only eaten here once, and the food was pretty good.
Review Source:I ventured back here after being away for about 5 or 6 years. Â "The old crew" and I decided to get together for a reunion of sorts, and this was where many, many good things happened back in the day...so why not?
It hasn't changed a bit. Â The same photos...some of which I'm in, some of which I took...still line the walls heading back to the bathrooms.
We timed it so that we were there to see a Rockstar show...and if you're not familiar with Rockstar - http://www.rockstaronlin… - shame on you, you should be. An awesome cover band of 80's "big hair band" music: Poison, Def Leppard, all sorts of great music. That's the band that originally brought us to Augie's in the first place, and so it was fitting that we revisit there on a night of their show.
There's still, laughably, a pay phone in the men's room...and once more, "damn you, Yelp!" for not allowing photo uploads. Â First...a pay phone...really? Â Second...fifty cents? Â Really? Â Then you couple that with the fact that the men's room is DIRECTLY behind the stage and therefore always loud...I would really, really love to see the set of circumstances that would lead one to use that pay phone. Â I really would.
The waitresses are still the same...literally, they remembered us. Â
It was fun going back...and led to a very "from the end of St Elmo's Fire" scene as we saw a new crowd of twenty-somethings in our old booths that were obviously "the new regulars". Â Good for them...and good for Augie's. Â May both they and the bar give each other great times and memories like the ones my friends and I have.
The beer is cold, the pizza is good, the wings are solid and it's a decent bar. Â It's a fun place to see a band like Rockstar, and it's a fun place to just hang out and have a few drinks with friends.
It's probably really only a three-star place, but I gave it an extra one for sentimental value...because too many places that I've hung out in over the years don't engender that same sense of nostalgia, and so good on Augie's for actually doing so.
