During high school, the pool hall rotation was Island Park, Garden City, and Baldwin. Baldwin was probably my favorite because it was the closest, but jesus, this place is very different from what I remember.
The tables are okay. The place seems to take good care of them. The cues suck. Here are my issues.
1) Nobody spoke English?
I mean, I ordered a water and was served with two bud lights. How does that happen? Water doesn't even sound like Bud Light. I don't even drink bud light. I had no idea what the waitress was thinking; she did it twice, I sent it back both times. Wasn't in a drinking mood. Especially not bud light. Fortunately, I speak Spanish and was able to converse with my waitress after I figured out she couldn't understand me, but didn't even say "no comprende." I'm aware of the Hispanic influence, doesn't bother me in the slightest, but wasn't aware that English was out the door here. There should be a sign, or something.
2) The uniforms?
Ohhhhhh god, my eyes. Please get the chunky waitresses out of the belly shirts and (what look like) painted on pants. I couldn't concentrate on my shots because every five seconds there would be mounds of belly rolls hanging over pants that were six sizes too small. Ughhhhhhh, who thinks that looks good? I'm not judgmental about the bigger folks, but why would you flaunt that? Not a good look.
3) The bathroom?
Okay, it's a pool hall, I can't really expect too much. But even this was sub-par. I walked into the steam roo---- bathroom, was hit with a wall of heat and shit, and immediately walked right out and ended up leaving because I had to piss so badly.
Two stars because the price is reasonable and the tables are okay. Negative eight stars for the ambiance. Whatever, it doesn't average. I can't please everyone. Even for a pool hall, this has gone from a 4 star place to a 1 star place in my book in a few short years.
Just suck it up and make the drive to Raxx in Garden City. Nicer tables, good food, great bar, good ambiance.
