We used to frequent the Bar Louie in Evanston and Wrigleyville, before is decided to pee on my leg and move back to Indiana from Chicago. Â This is the most spacious Bar Louie I have been to. Â There's a nice quiet dining area separated from the bar or you can hang out to watch the game in the bar. Â The beer garden is great on a warm summer night with cold beer. Â The food is solid. Â A little different twist on the standard bar fare. Â Their beer selection is really, really good. Â It's a fun place to hang out and watch the cute bartenders in tanktops, while trying not to get slapped in the head by my wife. Â If they turned up the lights, I could get the excuse to wear shades inside and not get in so much trouble.
Review Source:I really enjoyed the atmosphere at this place. Much like the brewery next door, this place was very nice for being attached to a mall. Also like the brewery, I can only review the drinks and atmosphere. While some of the drinks were overpriced most were fair. I would definitely stop here again if I was in the area.
Review Source:This is the best bar/hang out in the South Bend/Mishawaka area...I have no idea why it only has 3 stars.
The crowd is a great mix and I think the food is pretty good, the service is always friendly and I LOVE sitting out on the patio!
Everytime I visit I always go to Bar Louie! Great place for a drink and hang out and more up my ally since I'm from LA and this is the closest I can get to a real lounge in the Mid West.
A nice place while a tad on the expensive side compared to other bars in the area, but you do get a good tasting, strong, well made drink.
The apps are also good, and with the open patio there is ample seating.
I love the pretzel sticks, and in the winter a Hot Chocolate or S'Mores martini is to die for after a hard day of work.
Bartenders are super nice too!
My star rating is higher than I would have given this place, but I have to give them credit for two things. Â The drinks are AWESOME (I've been dying for some real mixed drinks) and they were graceful when I returned my flatbread. Â I ordered the southwestern one, with no mention of cheddar cheese in the description. Â Needless to say (welcome to living east of the Rockies), my food was coated with cheddar. Â I don't think anyone told the cook that queso fresco isn't yellow... Â I was upset because I generally don't complain and return food, but I was starving and wanted something that tasted like home. Â So I asked for it to be redone with no cheddar and more cilantro. Â It came back out of the kitchen perfect! Â Even the server said that it looked much better than usual.
And the drinks. Â Yummy! Â I don't remember the names, but I had a martini with cucumber, and then a coconut water mixed drink. Â Both were delicious and at a price that was a steal compared to what I would have paid in California!
As for the bad reviews, if you're going for the nightlife, you may want to read the reviews a bit more closely. Â If you're going to enjoy some great drinks, good small bites, and the company of your best friends, then this is a great place to try.
The drinks here are great. I've ordered the Samba and the Diva and they were both VERY good and decently priced. I also ordered the Sesame Encrusted Ahi Tuna and the portions were HUGE! It was cooked very well and seared perfectly. My group also ordered the Calamari as an appetizer and I think it was probably one of the best fried calamari I've had especially at a chain restaurant. It didn't taste like it was out of the freezer - perfectly crispy and seasoned well.
The staff was REALLY REALLY friendly! And NO I don't work at Bar Louie - I've been here twice because my husband loves the beer and I love their mixed drinks. Each time the staff was always available and very friendly. Â I think their prices are very decently priced especially for the portions, quality and taste. I was surprised this place wasn't more populated when we went.
A clean, well lighted, and and pleasant bar, with a decent menu and interesting cocktails. Â The skinny monitor and Rita are well done. Â However, it was better when it first opened and they had a weekend dj. Since that was jettisoned we think it's gradually declined ans become something less than chic; oftentimes approaching boring.
Hopefully it will revive itself and we can give it another chance.
Don't buy the hype, the food is mediocre at best. They are trying to make it seem like this is "THE PLACE TO BE", and it is if you like extremely overpriced food, bad staff, and a room full of goobers. The menu is deep, but it can't shake the weight of the bar. . . . might be a place for a date but not a place you should check out more than once.
Review Source:It's your typical chain restaurant. I've said this in other reviews about restaurants in the Michiana area, but really, that's all it is. I'm impressed they have more than one meat-free option on the menu, that is nice. I've never set foot in the bar though because they still allow people to smoke, and its a big sectioned off area in the restaurant so I can't imagine how horrible it must smell in there! Anyway, the wait staff is always friendly, so that's nice too.
Review Source:I don't quite understand all the so so responses regarding Bar Louie. I liked the atmosphere. It was comfortable not too loud even for a Friday night. Our service really exceeded our expectations. The waitress was very attentive and helpful on our first night there. She even gave us samples of the different microbrews they serve. The beers themselves were "average". The food was delicious. I had a pasta and cheese dish with spicy seasoning that had some nice kick to it. It went well with the ipa beer I had. We'll definately be back if hunger arises while shopping.
Review Source:I really hate this place. I have had the unfortunate experience of visiting three times. My first visit was a lunch meeting, the place had only opened a month before, yet the restaurant smelled of booze and cigarettes, ick. The appetizers were frozen and reheated, and the salad was limp and just bad. Three strikes. But because I am a social animal, I go where the people are, leading to two bar experiences. Overpriced drinks, an uncomfortable seating arrangement, and far too many of my fellow townies trying desperately to act cool all combine for a memorably bad experience.
Review Source:I came here with my parents. It's "alright".
The atmosphere is pretty nice for the area. It's a chain, which I didn't realize at the time.
I had a club sandwich which I had no problem with but was not the best I had ever had. My parents love the pear salad which did look delish and I was a bit sorry I hadn't ordered it.
My main complaint is the following:
The bar area is about 75% larger than the restaurant. At first I had no problem with this as we sat in a lush booth facing out so we could watch all the people come in and out. BUT ... I forgot that Indiana still allows smoking in bars. I just have an issue with people smoking around me when I'm eating.
Maybe I've been in California too long.
