My favorite late night bar and restaurant. They recently renovated and are offering new drink features. Â
The bar staff is always friendly and welcoming to me and my friends. Â They know our drinks and are prompt to offer refills. Â $1.00 burgers are offered on Tuesday nights (when I usually visit). Â The have the best tater tots on the Bay area. Â The California Chicken Sandwich, Hummus Plate and Chicken Wings are the favorites amongst my family. Â Several other items on their food menu are just as wonderful.
I guess I just don't get it. Â People are always saying, let's go to happy hour at Bar Louie's! Â I have been to several and I think that they are expensive and soulless. Â I would rather go to any number of places for happy hour instead of this place but I am not the sit in the corner and pout sort so when I am overruled, I go anyways. Â
But I don't think I will have that problem anymore. Â Why? Â Huge Roaches. Â This past week, my wife's riends, my wife and I went to Bar Louie for happy hour. Â Jen ordered rum and cokes for around $6.50 a pop (expensive for Tampa/St. Pete and even worse for happy hour prices). Â I took advantage of their pretty decent beer selection and the happy hour price which I think dropped it down to $4 a pop (not too bad). Â We also ordered flat bread of the half price appetizers menu. Â As we settled in to our stools and enjoyed the company a giant roach/palmetto bug ran right up the wall behind us and disappeared behind a TV. Â We called over the manager whose response was oh I am sorry let me comp you a drink. Â I frankly didn't want comping but never turn down a drink. Â What I wanted was to be moved and assured that it was just a fluke. Â But we did not get moved and the manager disappeared. Â
A few minutes later, we looked up at the TV again and the roach was sitting on top of the TV and began to run back and forth across the screen. Â The thing about roaches or palmetto bugs is that they don't like to come out into the open or the light unless there are large numbers of them so I started to get itchy looking at this. Â So I walked straight up to the kitchen pass through and I told them that we needed a manager ASAP. Â This time a woman came and my friends told me that while I was gone they had seen a second roach. Â So clearly this was not an errant bug. Â This was a colony or at least the start of one. Â
So as we watched another roach came out and perched on the side of the TV. Â It crouched down and FLEW straight at one of the women in our group who SCREAMED! Â And all of this happened right in front of the manager. Â The manager apologized and was nice but did nothing further with our check which had grown sizable or our table location. Â In fact, she took the opportunity to blame the poor sanitation on her neighbors. Â Passing the buck infuriated me and having just had a giant flying health code violation fly at a member of our party, I paid out my check and then informed her that I was posting this on Yelp.
Looking back I regret that I let this cat out of the bag. Â I almost never do it and think that it is bad form. Â BUT the manager's reaction was telling and is the main reason that I won't go back. Â When I mentioned that this was going on Yelp, she visibly jumped. Â She then focussed her apologies on me instead of the women who was shaken by the experience. Â Bad move. Â AND she chased us down as we were leaving with a free drink coupon which my friends took but I declined. Â I don't intend on going back (see my other Bar Louie reviews). Â But the fact that they were less visibly concerned about what amounts to a serious health code violation in full view of the entire restaurant than they were about me posting this review took what would have been an isolated experience with 2 stars and a chance of me re-reviewing it later to a solid one star. Â
Cleanliness around my food is non-negotiable and has serious consequences for your patrons as well as your bottom line.
Loudest place to have dinner, felt like I was screaming across the table the whoel time. Â Took the waitress 15 minutes to greet us, and service never improved. Â My food was ehhh . . . they got my salad wrong & charged by 2x for it. Â They did fix the problems but honestly, not sure I will be eating here again. Â Maybe it's just a happy hour kinda place.
Review Source:This review is specifically for their Wednesday night drink specials.
After roasting outside at kona grill's patio, we decided to take this party across the street to international plaza. Originally we selected the pub but were told they were on a wait...odd. Â No biggie, there are plenty of other options literally on the same outside patio area.
We found ourselves at Bar Louie and were pleasantly surprised with the crowd and the fact that we snagged 3 seats at the bar. Upon being greeted by the friendly bartenders, we were informed it was $5 martinis and $1 BL, miller lite and mich ultra. Â My friends were super excited to partake (sadly I do not care for any of those beers but was happy to find tons of wheat beers on tap).
The atmosphere was fun, the crowd was a good mixture if yuppies, an older crowd and the lunch staff from The Cheesecake Factory.
We decided that during the summer, kona is way too hot and we should make Bar Louie our local destination for inexpensive beer and good times.
I always seem to end up here when I visit Tampa.
Bar Louie is a great place to meet up with friends for a couple of beers & some bar food. It gets a little loud & crowded on the weekends, but what bar doesn't? There's a huge beer selection, but unfortunately I am neither versed in the fine art of beer snobbery nor adventurous with my beverage choices. But my friends all seem to enjoy the extensive options, & happy friends = happy me.
Just one complaint: I miss the pool table. #teambilliards
Great little bar and restaurant in the International Mall. Â They have a great beer list and a versatile menu. Â I have had appetizers, burgers, flatbreads, salads... and I tell you what - they are all good! Â They have a pretty decent happy hour and, I'm not sure if this is still the case, however they did have a dollar burger night, which was pretty awesome! Â Bar Louie is a good spot for a happy hour, a good lunch, or a night out with friends!
Review Source:Decent place to have casual business lunches, since it's fairly loud inside with all the sports channels always being on the large TVs. Â It's a restaurant with a full bar - with many beer choices on tap. Â They have a fairly good Blackberry, Orange and Brie salad if you want a small salad plate. Â
Unfortunately for my group lunch, there were maybe 2 dozen gnats hovering our table because the staff sprayed the bar early that morning, so (our server informed us that) the gnats were flying around waiting to die.
Great place to hit after work for Happy Hour with a great beer selection and great specials. Â Waitresses are good at reminding people that happy hour is ending in case you want to grab another special, but sometimes it does take a bit to get your drink if the place is busy. Â I love the "Loaded Tots" - tater tots with scallion, bacon, jalapeno's and melted cheese. Â They are awesome with a couple of drinks ! Â Dollar burger Tuesdays are ok if you want to grab a quick bite, they charge by the extra, like onions, mayo, etc... Â Burgers are usually fully cooked and a little dry, that's where the mayo and ketchup come in... Â I've tried their Fish Tacos as well, which for bar food, I think is one of the better Fish Taco's I've tried in Tampa....
Review Source:What does it say about me if I only come to Bar Louie for happy hour? Nothing because the sounds of people exclaiming Bar Louie's awesomeness drowns anything about me out!
Starting at 4pm, I frequently sidle up to Bar Louie's comfy benches as sip leisurely on cider or a cucumber martini. Add a side of spinach artichoke dip and Bar Louie is lucky I don't just set up my home there and stay forever.
I dig Bar Louie. Â It is a nice place to have a drink. Â On Tuesdays they have a special where you can get a burger for $1. Â My favorite thing to eat at Bar Louie is the roasted veggie flat bread. Â It is nothing that I would normally order but once, I visited with my brother and it was so good it was sick.
Review Source:While this may be the place to go if you are after tater tots, 48 draft beers, specialty martinis, or looking for big-screen TVs to watch your favorite sports events, I did not enjoy my experience here.
Namely, I am not enthused when a bar or restaurant does not put its drink prices on the menu. Nor am I impressed when my friends, who are regulars, think they know how much Bar Louie charges for a drink, yet Bar Louie keeps upping the amount. If you order a mixed drink or a beer (bottled or draft), the price is not on the menu.
It's also LOUD. And crowded. We could hardly find a seat. And the service is not great. You'll get your drinks, eventually. And don't worry, you will get your bill.
But don't expect the manager to give a damn about customer service, because it is quite clear they do not. I called the next day to give them a chance to rectify a matter and it became clear they had no interest in doing so. I never received a return call from the manager I spoke with, but I could tell by her attitude and tone that I would not.
That's okay.
I won't be back. There are plenty of other places to go with more transparent practices/i.e., all prices on the menu, so you know what you are paying for.
Ugh, so went here on a Sunday evening. Â Sat down quickly, then waited over 15 mins to be acknowledged. Â This was my first time here so I needed some time to look over the menu, in the meanwhile requested some waters. Â Another 20 mins went by, at this point still no water, or order taken. Â I'm usually pretty patient and understanding that all servers have busy/bad days, but this was ridiculous, def had to walk out. Â Sad to say I never got the whole Bar Louie experience, and most likely will not return again.
Review Source:Bar Louie is a fun urban bar/restaurant in International Plaza that offers a large menu selection of appetizers, bar food, burgers, sandwiches and more. Â The drink menu includes many tasty martinis (my favorite martini is the "Fizz" with St. Germain and Prosecco) and features 48 beers on tap as well as other bottled selections, and wines by the glass or bottle. Â
Why only three stars? Â I like the atmosphere and the food slightly more at The Pub in International Plaza. Â Bar Louie is fun, but if you visit during a game day or when a live band is playing chances are you won't be able to hear the person next to you talk. Â
Check out their daily happy hour specials. Many of the drinks and appetizers are half off. They also have $1 burger nights every Tuesday (doesn't inlcude cheese or other additional condiments, but still a great deal!) and $1 draft nights every Wednesday.
I like their drinks and their beer selection is absurd. I'm not even sure how they manage to stock that much beer. The atmosphere was great (at least for a Tuesday) and the people were more my demographic with the occasional 50 year old creeping on the young girls.
I've never seen this before, but I'm sure it's common. Women spending all their time at the bar texting? Get off your phone. Live in the moment. Maybe it was just the night I went.
Overall, great looking food (I didn't have any), great drinks (they were extremely strong) and a better crowd than Blue Martini.
I've been to this place a couple of times and I have always enjoyed myself.
They have a great HH special and the amount of beers is ridiculous. Anyone with any kind of beer palate can enjoy a frothy brew.
The atmosphere is really lively. I was there, with a friend, right after 6 on Friday and the place was buzzing! You can tell that a lot of people who work around the International Mall pick this place for an after work drink.
They have a ton of TVs so I would imagine this place would be great for any big game!
Great Sunday Football spot - big TVS, drink specials, huge draft beer selection, 1/2 apps, NFL ticket. All TVs are already assigned to certain games, so get there early to get the perfect seat for you. Outside TVs aren't assigned so if you don't like the inside selection, snag a table outside and ask the server to put on your game.
The boneless wings were DELICIOUS! Never really expect amazing things when I order boneless wings but these were the perfect mix of spicy and crunchy. Chicken quesadillas were good too. My Stella was even better. :)
I stopped by here with some coworkers for some after dinner drinks. Â I really enjoy this bar. Â First, it is in a great spot with plenty of places to bar hop. Â This place is one of the more laid back of the bars in the International Plaza, and I use the word laid back loosely. Â Bar Louie definitely appeals a broader age range. Â You'll see 20 somethings here and an older crowd. Â Huge contrast to the Blue Martini which is right next door.
I haven't eaten here but I hear it is pretty good food for a bar. Â The drinks are fantastic though. Â Go out to eat at one of the many restaurants around I Mall and then stop by here for a cocktail or a beer.
Once the football game ended on our late Sunday night adventure, Bar Louie became a very tolerable dining environment. The music selection included many of my favorites in the rock genre making for a better dining experience.
This time I gave the Fish & Chips a try: generous portion size, VERY Crispy exterior, and tender fish inside. The fries were a bit salty though but I guess I'll just have to have another beer to quench the dryness - and there plenty of beers to choose from. I highly recommend anything from Cigar City or of course my east coast favorite the Yuengling. Service was very friendly that night - thanks Michael
First I need to say I'm writing this based on the food alone. As a bar, its a good time.
The food is disgusting, so if you're new to the area and looking to eat, go to Cheesecake Factory. The quesadilla is literally two cheap burritos with shredded Walmart cheese, baked for 10 minutes and served with sour cream on the side. Chicken sandwich is a dry piece of chicken put in between two pieces of white bread, lettuce, and baked for 2 minutes. Go here to drink and not eat
$1 burger night on Tuesdays, Happy Hour from 5-7? Yes, please!
Never thought I'd find such a great deal within the walls of International Plaza, but low and behold, Bar Louie!
Went here last night and I think I will be returning again very soon!
Toppings are 50 cents extra and you have to order a drink (soda is acceptable) and fries are $4.
But it's oh, so worth it! Â I got the mushrooms and pepperjack cheese on mine and it was yummy!
Why 4 stars? Because who knew this place was so great??
 ---  ---  ---
Bar Louie, why didn't I stop by sooner? I had no idea you were such a good time. I had a very poor and false assumption of the Louie, that was proven wrong during a recent visit. I don't hang out too often at International Plaza, and a couple of experience at the nearby Blue Martini were the primary reason. There's nothing wrong with Blue Martini, but they obviously do not appeal to my demo, being that I am not a 40-something. Maybe one day, hanging out with cougars will be my thing, or maybe when that day comes I will be too old to garner their attention. Whatever the case may be, let's chat about my interests in 2012 - Bar Louie!
They have a decent beer selection and with the amount of TV's in the place, it seems like it might be my home during a future NFL Sunday. All of the food that I tried was good from the pretzels to the burgers, I will definitely be back. The cocktails, which are usually not my thing, really opened my eyes. I specifically enjoyed the Kiss My Aztec.
Lou, that was not a fun game of hide and seek. Don't play so hard next time.
WERE DOING THE LOUIE LOUIE!!! Thanks Brett for this CYME. First off I had never been to one let a lone a free one it was cool. I like the gifts Brett had set up for us and the atmosphere was nice. The servers and the hospitality was over the top great. They were very busy with these thirsty yelpers but they held there own. Also, thanks to the manager that gave us complementary nachos(tasty) and pretzels. This was a good night with good convos and a nice spot that I could continue to go to. Thanks to Brett I had a good night.
Oh and the guy singing in the front was jammin out....
Before you read this review, you should know that I'm just a LITTLE bit of a food snob.
The food here is AMAZING. As others have said, Bar Louie is a sports bar with an abundance of TVs, bar space, booths and high-tables that have nowhere near enough space for the four high-seats at each one. The bar is tucked away in a hidden alley by the Cheesecake Factory; once you get inside it can be a bit loud. However, the wait staff (in my experience) is very friendly and attentive and the food and drinks are incredible. I had a "Pom Peche" martini (Absolut Peach, pomegranate syrup, mango puree, OJ and Sprite) from Heaven; my partner had a dirty martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives which he raved about. I had the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread which comes out on a long plate and is beautifully decorated with green onions and crumbled blue cheese and has a delicious smokey flavor. My partner has the VooDoo Chicken which he also raved about.
Also, check out the website for specials. Tuesday nights are $1 burgers. They have a variety of drink specials on different occasions.
Bar Louie has become one of our staple spots. We get excited just thinking about going back. My only reason for not giving it five stars is that it is a sports bar, so the ambiance is not my favorite, but certainly not bad. I highly recommend this spot.
Bar Louie is sandwiched..almost hidden...in between Cheesecake Factory and the Blue Martini. I'd passed in many times without notice before last night's get together..but it was worth finding!
The Bar expands Tardis style from the pedestrian avenue through Bay Street at International Plaza. There is no way you could estimate how HUGE this place is on the inside! Â Normally, I'd say this is not my kind of place...it's basically a sports bar dominated by big screen tvs and since I have a TV and almost never use it to watch sports there's really no point for me..
..but the service was really good, the drinks my wife and I were served were really good - a Manhattan and a Margarita Fresca - and the hummus trio we ordered was really good!
Bar Louie - really good.
Awesome drinks...happy hour 4-7....great service...ask for Jess!! ;~}
I come here often for the great happy hour (m-f 4-7). They offer contests every month and have great food. I recommend the boneless wings and the Fuzz to drink! Â This is a cool place with DJ Dave on Sat and Fri nites. Â Not to mention if you like sports they have every game on. Â Check it out! Â ;~}
yay! First yelp review! Hope this goes well...
Bar Louie has a great atmosphere. THE biggest selection of tap brews of all types i've seen. Tvs everywhere and from when I was there (Monday) a great live music act who killed it with great covers (from Drake to even Craig David). The drink selection is superb. Bar louie really caters for all types of drinkers- from beer drinkers, wine connoisseurs, and to those who like a creative handcrafted cocktail!
On 05/21/2012 the staff of Bar Louie really welcomed the yelp members by giving us complementary drinks of their hand crafted cocktail and wine menu! Let me just say...it was certainly a treat! Tried the coconut lemonade and couldn't get enough! It is a refreshing take off a lemonade drink mixed with topshelf (Smirnoff) coconut flavored vodka. So good.
FOOD: man these guys deliver! All the food on the menu seemed really good. You got your bar food but with an upscale twist! Tip: subsitute fries for tater tots! (You will thank me!) And just to give you an idea of what type of bar food they got: me and the girlfriend orded a seared ahi tuna SANDWICH topped with avocado and sesame seeds. Hows that for  a take off you typical bar food?
Bar Louie is located in the heart of the lavish international mall- right smack dabbed in the middle of pricey italian restaurants and sushi places. But for a good time, great food, and great drinks; I would definetly reccomened Bar Louie.
Bar Louie is known to be a popular spot for the work crowd, and the weekend crowd. They have daily specials ($2 half lb burgers on Tuesdays!) Perfect for anyone on any day if the week!
I attended a YelpTampaBay event tonight at Bar Louie with a girlfriend. Bar Louie was launching a new drink menu and we were there to check it out. Our group was in the back corner of the restaurant with a ringside view of the big screen TV showing the Rays game.
I am a sucker for a good Margarita, so of course I tried the La Fresca Margarita, with Avion Silver, fresh orange, lemon and lime juice, agave and lemon lime foam. It was delish! I am a Margarita connoisseur and this one did not disappoint. My girlfriend had the Mongoose Daiquiri with Cruzan Light, O3, cane syrup, fresh lime and Black Strap Rum float. It was really cute how they floated the rum on top in a hollowed out lime. I took a sip of my friend's drink and it was very sweet with a molasses flavor from the Black Strap. Very strong! She ordered a second, so I guess she liked it.
Bar Louie brought several appetizers to the table for us Yelpers to try. I tried the chicken nachos (yum) and the pretzel breadsticks (amazing). Seriously, the pretzel sticks with the cinnamon flavored butter were so good.
I will definitely be back to Bar Louie! I had drink envy for the "Kiss My Aztec" that the guy sitting next to me ordered.
Meh.
I visited this place at the behest of a friend who was there for the Noles game. The place was definitely hopping with people, but the Noles were down 14 points - and then I showed up and started making Gator jokes and they suddenly came alive, along with the crowd. Noles won 15-14 - good thing I was there to -not- support them... (kidding - the crowd was actually fun)
The place is typical sports bar: Â a bunch of tall tables and stools, big screen TVs and beer. Lots of beers. I hate beer, so I had a simple drink: vodka + cranberry. Well. Lamest drink ever. Big glass, no vodka, waaaaay too sweet cran/whatever. I asked the bartender why there was no vodka in my glass and got some blah blah about their cran mix being strong - huh?
Dude. When I have to ask you to top up a drink, and then can still barely discern the alcohol in it, your pour sucks. I don't want a huge glass of mixer. I want a mixed drink. Until they figure out how to do that, I will not be back.
PS: There is no point in prohibiting smoking and then opening all the front doors so the smoke can blow into the joint. Asinine. If I wanted to hang with the black lung crowd, I'd go outside and watch them kill themselves.
Came here in the midst of shopping at the international mall and got the Bavarian pretzels for an appetizer and portobello burger. I did not get a drink because cocktails were $10 which seems a bit high to me unless they are going to be half and half...
The pretzels were really nice and soft and the queso, cinnamon butter, and mustard it came with were really good--especially the queso! Having cinnamon butter and queso on the same plate is a bit weird though and makes you not want to go back and forth between the two.
The 'burger' was fantastic due to the pesto mayo. It slides around the bun though and that makes it difficult to eat.
Lots of TVs to watch any sport you want though!
A really fun place that has good food and a great selection of beer. The $1 burger night on Tuesday is as advertised, but the wide selection of brews and funky menu items are what make this a winner.
The whole joint is plenty big, and has large tables for bigger groups. There's also plenty of TV's to watch a game. The service isn't always the best, as I've had to wait quite a while to get drinks or a check when it's busy, but if you're not in a rush it's a fine atmosphere to hang out and chat.
What separates it from most brew bars is the food, which is excellent. I've yet to have anything that wasn't quite good. Try the mac and cheese with chicken, the broccoli and cheese soup, and even the wings and pizzas seem to be well above average. What makes this place better than most is the food combined with the great beer selection.
Not a great place to get in and out of, but wonderful if you're looking to hang out for a few with some friends.
Bar Louie is located in International Plaza's Bay Street outdoor restaurant corridor. Â It is a very skinny storefront wedged in between the Cheesecake Factory and Blue Martini. They feature a great selection of draft beers. Worth a visit based on that alone. They had some harder to find stuff like Rogue from Oregon and Sea Dog from Maine. Â The place is centered around a large oval bar that is very long to accommodate all of those taps! They have one pool table, many HDTV LCDs scattered around the place along with many high-top tables and these giant half circle overstuffed booths lining the walls. Â The atmosphere is smart casual and has a nice look to it. Â
As far as the food goes they have a very outstanding starter of fully loaded tater tots. The tots come with a white cheese sauce (I can't quite place the type of cheese), bacon ( I ask for it vegetarian and don't get the bacon), green onion and giardiniera pepper relish). The flavor is unique and everything remains crisp and the taste is amazing.
I also quite enjoy the fish tacos they have. You get 3-4 mini corn tortillas with grilled cod fish, Â cabbage, chipotle mayo, and a mango salsa. A little fried jalapeno pepper is put on top and you can slice it up and distribute it on your tacos. It comes with black beans and rice on the side, and is surprisingly excellent for bar food.
They offer numerous vegetarian options on the menu like mac and cheese and various veggie sandwiches plus you can sub a soy burger in any of their numerous meat burger options.
Good ambiance, good bar food including extra yummy fried tater tots and you have a pretty good recipe going. As some other posters have commented sometimes the service can be a little spotty with longer than expected waits for refills on beer. You'd think they'd want to have you order as many as possible as quickly as possible right? I definitely recommend it when it comes to mall chain restaurant food- a nice step up from a place like Ruby Tuesdays.
Who doesn't love a swanky bar where you can drink beer while smashing on some delicious tater tots? Â Plus, with their Rock the Tot tater tot eating contest, you can do it without judgment.
I've been only a handful of times years ago and I've yet to find another restaurant that comes close to those delectable tots. Â Thinking about them now is making me salivate.
Excuse me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard.
Love this place, feels like a cool lounge, but it's pretty large. Â I think they have around 100 beers on tap, and their weekly specials are awesome. Â Tuesdays = $1 hamburgers (of course condiments are $.25 ea, but still a great deal).
Good food, not amazing, but better than regular bar food.
Good mixed drinks too, like Connie said. Â Wish I lived closer, I would come here once/week for happy hour.
