Strangely tucked within a residential neighborhood just behind Medfield center, Â Basil provided a comfortable setting for a fun night out with friends. Reasonably priced but slow on the service. Steamers were a great choice for an appetizer. Friends liked their haddock and scallops plate and ziti, chicken and broccoli meal. We had one of the specials - a Bianco that was very tasty and very filling. Didn't have room for dessert, maybe next time!
Review Source:Outstanding!
The salmon is very fresh and the the lamb is perfectly cooked. Â The drinks are strong and the atmosphere is comfortable. Â The staff and the management are 5 stars. Â
We had a wonderful time at Basil. Â I would recommend it to anyone. Â It beats driving into the north end for a high-end meal, because the food and the convenience is perfect.
We had a wonderful night at Basil!
Not the first time here.....service has gone down hill though went in for a late dinner at 8:30 and while we sat on the Barside the waitress was also the bar tender...not a good sign had to get up at least three times to ask for things normally a waitress would do...dinner was good but took so long to get about an hour on a slow night we could not do desert or coffe something I always look forward to...I think I will start looking elsewhere....
Review Source:Very pleased with our first dining experience at Basil.  Loved the atmosphere and the waiter was very good.  Best part was the food.  I had the chicken, veal and shrimp marsala (minus the veal) and am very picky about marsala.  The sauce was delicious.  My husband had the special which was 1/2 chicken stuffed with cornbread stuffing with side dish of fresh  butternut squash.  Delicious.  So happy there is a good restaurant nearby.  We will be back!
Review Source:Awesome food not to expensive and very friendly waitstaff. Can be a nice restraunt to bring date, family, small party's, or to sit in the bar. There is an amazing salt water fish tank that sees threw the dinning room into the bar...very cool. The food is outstanding every time I go..never had a bad meal there. I would highly recommend basil for the next time you go out to dinner.
Review Source:We stopped in the bar area a few weeks ago for dinner.  It was later  in the evening so we had appetizers only and shared most so we could get a great variety.  We had escargot, two salads, zingerella calamari and their ravioli sampler...so more dinner appetizers than their pub menu.  The service was great until we were looking to leave but our waitress was attentive the majority of the time.  Portions were decent  (calamari was more than we could eat) and the ravioli sampler was impressive. Â
We had a bottle of wine while dining and the check at the end was very reasonable. Â We'll go back.
Dining in the suburbs is always a different adventure from my usual urban experiences. And while out in Medfield, my experience at Basil was almost quite pleasant.
The dining room is quite comfortable, and the bar area seemed to be a social scene. What was most impressive was the menu-- which was quite expansive! I was shocked to see so many options on one menu.
I had a fish special that was stuffed with spinach, cheese and mushrooms. Unfortunately this dish was so incredibly salty, it overpowered all the flavors and the dish entirely.
We also had an order of calamari which was delightfully battered and lemony, but the sauce was a little on the oily side and was a bit too soggy for my taste. But, that being said, we devoured the calamari and i recommend ordering this dish!
Service was excellent and portions were enough to feed a family of four in one dish.
Overall this could have been a great meal, but the salt overwhelmed both my dish and experience at Basil. One quick note is that other folks at the table with different dishes (a regular fish and chicken dish) thoroughly enjoyed their dishes that were not as salty.
This is undoubtedly a nice place for an Italian meal if you have a wide array of taste buds while in the suburbs.
First time here was Sunday for supper. Â We arrived at 18:00 and sat at the bar. Â It was busy despite the snow storm and there was only one friendly waiter. Â Since there was no one in dining room may be better to have other waiter help her out! Â The waitress at the bar had a great attitude. Â The menu had a large selection of italian and main stream dishes. Â I went with the special lobster cod picata and my wife has the lasagna. Â My dish was good and my wife's lasagna was very good and a huge portion. Â Overall the bar area was loud with a few happy customers having multiple conversations. Â So food was good a little pricey the special but croud at the bar was in a roudy mood. Â It got quieter after they left but we were done too.
Review Source:I am reviewing the bar area of Basil's. Â I haven't actually been in the restaurant.
My family has been to Basil's several times. Â My kids (11 and 9) especially love to sit in one of the booths by the salt water fish tank. Â I find the staff friendly and not slow. Â Last time we were in the owner came over and chatted with us and bought my kids ice cream for dessert (so he made a friend for life with them).
As for the food: Â In the bar you can order off a limited bar menu or the entire restaurant menu. Â I think their chicken fingers are excellent. Â My daughter loves the lasagna or the lobster raviolis. Â We've ordered other things, but tend to stick with the lower priced items. Â I agree with a previous assessment of the calamari, the sauce is a bit oily and tends to sog the bottoms of things. Â
They have do a good job of keeping the drinks filled and have reasonable wine by the glass. Â They also have port, which is nice since not all restaurants around here have it for after dinner.
This was our second visit to Basil, and I have to say I was much more impressed the first time. On a weekday night, the place was almost empty except for a group having a function upstairs. The food was just okay. My haddock scallop dinner with cream sauce was very bland and my husband felt underwhelmed by his dinner also. The fresh veggies were nice and fresh looking, but limited in number, 2 asparagus spears!! The prices are not extraordinary, but not cheap either...
Review Source:Place was good. Food was very tasty and good-size portions and appetizers. Not cheap but not expensive. I tried the Chicken parm to test out the place and it was hot, nicely cooked, and the red sauce was good. My wife had the Ravioli sampler and while the other two raviolis-styles were tasty the lobster ravioli was really good, I will have that next time I went back. We had the spicy calamari for an appetizer and they were mostly crisp but the lemon sauce that it was sitting in was too oily and made the bottom half of a few of the calamari pieces soggy. Would recommend getting that on the side if possible. Defintely will be back, not romantic but a cozy place and the food was excellent.
