I will never eat here again!! The service was horrible. At one point in time the owner or shift manager, who ever it was, yelled across the restaurant at a boy who evidently was a late dishwasher, unprofessional! I had a chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were still frozen on the inside, the bun was burnt and chicken was hard. My boyfriend got a taco salad and was upset to find the shell chewy and only one piece of meat. Man was it slow. We were one of three table and it took two hours to get it and out. Not to mention that my boyfriend spent the evening and early hours of the morning sick over a toilet! Never again. And I'm a local. I have eaten here a few time, it was never above par, but now I am discussed. It was pricy too.

I went in and asked for a strawberry margarita and even though they didn't have the mix the bartender made one from fresh strawberries and it was so good! For dinner we tried the pulled pork nachos which is awesome and the coconut shrimp which my mom liked and she doesn't usually like shrimp! We were so impressed that we went back the next day and got the same thing. I would definitely recommend this place and I'm planning on going back next time I'm in town.

Well we waited 45 minutes to get our food and our appetizers came after our main course. BUT the atmosphere was nice and the food was pretty delicious so four stars for good food and good atmosphere with too long of a wait.

Did not have any food - just hung there watching the W's on a Thursday karaoke night. It is like a bar in Vermont as someone wrote...we had a table of rasta bros, some biker dudes, and some regular folks just getting hammered.

Bartender was a cool Giants fan who promised to sing later in the evening.

$3.50 pints.....what could go wrong?

Went last night for dinner. The decor is very nice, the murals give it an historical feel. The place was busy for 8PM on a Sunday night. No wait, most of the tables were full. My husband and I had the honey fried chicken, it was excellent. My son had the Gold Coin Burger, he said it was also very good. The menu is limited but I think everyone can find something. All mixed drinks were $6 and beers 3 or $4. The owners husband, Bob, introduced himself and came around to talk with patrons (very nice touch). We will be back

The "dive" bar of Mariposa. I felt like I was in a bar in Vermont for some reason - which is a good thing (i.e. unpretentious). I cannot speak for the food, but the beers were great and my wallet was grateful. Friendly people all around - staff and other patrons. Cheers!

The Coin is a great place. I have been in here multiple times from the very first week they opened their doors to just last week on my way to the Ball. The owners are amazing and the environment has an elegant yet casual sports pub feel with flat screens included. Very comfortable seating to enjoy great food. I love the buffalo wings smothered in buffalo sause, it's awesome. Burger's are great, and I am a modifier. I know order from the menu. What can I say, "I like bacon, avocado, grilled onions and the works. Did I mention good beer and wine selection as well as my favorite the Jagermeister and many more. I will definitely be back.

There's not too many choices in Mariposa for dinner, we didn't look too hard, but settled on The Gold Coin to eat after a long day. The place looked nice inside and out with outdoor seating available. We chose to be indoors since it was steaming hot that day. There wasn't too many people in there when we arrived so we found a good table. Our server greeted us with a nice smile, and set about taking our orders, but stopped in the middle because my mother had a coughing fit to get her some water, which was very nice.
We got the beer-battered zucchini for an appetizer and my meal came with a green salad so we grubbed down on those. My brother ordered some soup, and while it was pretty salty, it was still good. Now I am not a huge fan of veggies but I changed my mind a little after trying the fries. The sauce they come with is out of this world amazing. We actually ordered a couple sides of it later to dip our fries into it. Their menu is pretty simple, so I settled on a 6oz New York steak sandwich, a 1551 beer, and a Pepsi (I don't like the taste of alcohol when I eat).
The food came a few minutes after we had finished our appetizers, and was hot and fresh. The fries were cooked to perfection. The sandwich was toasted perfectly on the outside and the steak was delicious. I didn't sample anything else but I can definitely say our bellies were full when leaving. All in all, outside of one of our orders coming a minute behind the rest which isn't a big deal because we all share our french fries, I can't say anything bad about our experience. This was a great meal in a nice air-conditioned room to end the hot day.

We came through town 2-3 years ago and ate at a really nice liitle restaurant that didn't seem to be there anymore. Someone told us they thought it might be closed for renovations. Sad for us. So we ended up here at Bett's. Hub had a burger and I had the Cobb salad. It was just ok, We wouldn't hurry back.

We went in for new years eve and had the $17.50 tri tip dinner. The food was out of this world!! I highly recommend the drink "liquid gold". It was so good! Loved the ambiance and the restored paintings!

Drinks are great but...I ordered the dinner Chicken cesar salad and I got wilted lettuce, soggy croutons and could only find a couple pieces cold chicken. For $15 I sent it back!

Awful. Work in restaurant industry and consider myself a foodie. Atmosphere amazing. Love the remodel. Seated ourselves. Few min went by and drink order taken. Out of beer listed. Ordered fish/chips an louisiana hot link on french roll. 30 min and no refills later food brought in plastic baskets ($10 an entree mind you). Husbands hot link on a french roll was a bar-s Spicy hot dog on a 10¢ hot dog bun. were they out of rolls and too ignorant to inform us? got my own vinegar for fish. chips for fish/chips are same as all fries in the place. weak. servers are new and clueless. not at all worth even the 25 we paid. they need to find a real chef and not the slow untalented fry cook they have. never again. apparently owner has 30 years experience in business. couldve fooled me. been in business 12 years and am embarassed for them. never http://again.us

They ARE working out their opening day kinks, I'm glad to say. Our food was very good and the mixed drinks excellent. Service was very friendly. We will be back!

I must give the owner of the building and the restaurant designer kudos. They really captured the historical character with their renovation and the restored murals are breathtaking. The design of the restaurant allows for a nice flow and with the outdoor dining section and the u-shaped bar centralized, it has more the feeling of a sports pub then a restaurant.

We ordered simple enough fare from the menu. My husband ordered a Gold Coin Burger and I, a Louisiana Hot Link sandwich (both with onion rings). Our drinks came out pretty quickly and my margarita was tasty enough. The waitress was very accomodating and even brought us a little binder with pictures and historical descriptions of the location and renovation.

From there it went totally downill. No napkins or silverware when our meals came. I had asked the waitress about the "homemade fried chicken" (not home made) so I didn't order. I figured what could someone do to wrong to a hot link sandwich. Pretty standard fare.

Well, this is the first time I have sent back a sandwich in 40 years of eating out! My husband was so hungry he ate his burger but it had no pickle, no onion and only the tiniest sliver of tomato! My sandwich bread was barely grilled and the hot links were burnt on the outside and literally were less than 6 inches long. There was no melted cheese to speak of and someone had literally taken 1 red onion segment, slightly grilled and threw it in as an afterthought. The presentation was abysmal. A plastic basket with a plastic ketchup and mustard thrown in. The onion rings were frozen Sysco fake food and the were undercooked. Just barely unfrozen! One bite and for $10, I figured this is going to get sent back!

Mariposa has Savoury's and the Butterfly Cafe, the Pine Cone and Triangle Road Cafe where the cooks really care about what they prepare and people go away happy. These restaurants have raised the bar on local fare and I appreciate the quality of their products.

With all the fresh produce in the Central Valley right over the hill, and plenty of local specialties, it wouldn't take much to get the Bett's Gold Coin people on track.

I hope they understand that when winter hits, the loyalty of the local diners will sustain them if they have a good product. If they have a great product, they will become a dining destination on the way to Yosemite. If they don't get the quality, presentation and cooking in sync.. they'll just be a bar with bar food. So they'll make it on the bar and serve inedible, overpriced microwave stuff.

No thanks!

Mariposa has a few bars in town. One is never open. The other two are slightly off the main street. Bett's Gold Coin has the advantage of being right on hwy 140 in the middle of downtown Mariposa. Not only is it a bar with a couple of big screen tv's for Yosemite visitors who don't want to miss their favorite sports game, but this is also a sit down restaurant with a number of tables available both inside and outside.

The location is a historic building that has been nicely refurbished inside. It has a nice feel, though it is a bit noisy with the hard wood floors (but hey, it's a sports bar so the atmosphere fits). The sit down menu has lunches for $10 and dinners for $15. Lunch menu is served all day. There are also appetizers/bar fare available.

Had the burger, and partner had the Cobb salad (from lunch menu). Burger came with fries, and automatically topped with cheese and bacon. The burger, fairly certain, was hand made. It didn't have the shape of a pre made frozen burger, and tasted pretty good. I'd say better quality burger than anything I've had in town (and there are a lot of places to get a burger in town), but it also costs more than any burger I've seen in town (though not much more than Happy Burger for a bacon cheese burger). Fries were of the shoe string type, and tasty. The Cobb salad was ok. Lots of good romaine lettuce (yay for no iceburg stuff!) with some tasty chicken. However, it wasn't as large as one would think for $10, and felt like most cobb salads I've had elsewhere included egg, maybe more variety of veggies, and avocado. It definitely wasn't bad, just maybe not what I was expecting.

I visited on the second night the business was open. They are still working out their service kinks, just like any brand new restaurant. It's a little confusing upon entering, as to whether or not you're supposed to seat yourself or wait. Eventually we were noticed, and seated. The owner (pretty sure it was the owner) did notice when things went slightly awry (sitting for almost 20 minutes without drink order taken), and service wasn't quite snappy yet. Had to wait a long time for drinks, etc etc. But people were friendly, and the owner really did what things to go well as she kept checking in.

Overall, a good visit. Hoping to return in a few weeks to see if service kinks have been worked out. The bar looks like a great option to linger and hang out with friends if you're in town. And here's the big bonus about Bett's Gold Coin...it's open until 11pm...which is GREAT for a town where things close up shop relatively early. So if you're driving in late on your way to Yosemite, or returning from a long day in Yosemite, you now have more options than Pizza Factory and Burger King. Woo hoo!
