My wife and I are huge fans of this place!  Great Mexican inspired dishes, delicious sushi, good beer selection, tasty margaritas,... I could go on and on!  The courtyard is a nice place to hang out for meal or just a drink.  We've only eaten in their courtyard area, so I cannot comment on the indoor atmosphere.  This place is also dog-friendly, so that is a huge plus!  This is a must visit if you're looking for good local food in Mobile.

Great dive in downtown Mobile.  Great lunch spot or quick drink in the afternoon.  Eclectic take on tacos!

I was in Mobile for one night, and luckily found The Bicycle Shop.  I can't speak for the food, as we didn't dine, but my experience at the bar was great.  Really enjoyed talking to the bartender Carson.  He recommended a couple of beers by Back 40 and Widmer that were solid.  His music selection was also on point.  Next time that I am passing through Mobile, I will stop here for some tacos as the menu looked pretty tasty.

Love the food and atmosphere here. I am usually a believer that a restaurant can't do two cuisines well - but The Bicycle Shop does tex-mex and sushi. I've had them both and they're both great! If I had to pick, I'd fall on the tex-mex as my favorite. The fish tacos are great. Plus they've got a great beer selection and a casual, hangout-for-hours vibe.

A different twist on tacos. Very good.

It's a cool place to come in Mobile simply because there aren't a lot of options, but getting charged $8 for a beer, and having an oversalted mahi mahi taco was not all that enjoyable.

The next stop on Dauphin St. after a day on the road.  This place was recommended to me by the bartender at Hayley's (see review for Hayley's as well).

2 words for this place....Holy Shit!!!  This is one of the coolest places I've ever been in my life.  Trendy bar, but with a classic dive touch.  Amazing selection of beer (not very large though) and a large outdoor patio area.  The patio had a very large stage with a band rocking out, but we opted to sit inside.

The food at this place does not seem like it's made here.  Very cheap bar food with a twist.  By recommendation of the Hayley's bartender I had the duck breast nachos and my buddy got the chicken flautas.  Sweet Mother of God.  This was some of the best food I'd eaten ever...period.  The Nachos were enough for about 5 people and loaded down with duck and fresh cabbage.  Absolutely delicious.  The flautas were crisp, fresh, and filled with chicken and cheese.  The prices were as good as the food.  Word on the street is they also make amazing sushi, but I stuck with the bar menu.

If you're even remotely near the Mobile area this place is definitely worth going out of your way for.  Try the duck nachos and thank me later.

loved this place and on a sunday night in downtown mobile there isn't much else open. had the tongue taco, the pork taco, the nawlins sushi, andceviche. excellent food, great ambience. clueless waitress but that's ok - where the hipsters eat, the service is usually terrible. this plafce would be right at home in williamsburg, brooklyn. and this town is ripefor a hipster takeover!

Can't complain in mobile Al. Mexican food great and the black berry margarita was awesome. Stayed in mobile for a week and found ourselves eating here five times (lunch and dinner...think we over did it)...plus love the 80s music.

My friend raved of a spicy sushi roll that had spicy tuna, fresh jalapeno slices, and Sriracha sauce.  He didn't see it on the menu but wondered if they had just changed the name.  The server said that they can also add jalapenos and Sriracha sauce to any of the rolls on the menu.  We decided on the crusty roll with added jalapenos (we also should have specified fresh jalapenos).  My ordering additional rolls was dependent on the experience with this roll.  We didn't order any additional rolls (we should've known better with a name like crusty).  There wasn't anything wrong with the roll per se, it was just way overpriced for something very mediocre.  To the server's credit, she did bring out a nice big condiment bowl of Sriracha upon request, with which we used on everything else.

It is not often you see smoked duck on the menu, let alone at a bar.  So I had to order the smoked duck nachos.  When the plate arrived, I was glad I didn't order anything else - the thing is huge!  Don't let my initial excitement deceive you though, because there were only four shreds of smoked duck buried in a mountain of iceberg lettuce, myriad sauces, very greasy chips, and cheese.

The lengua and steak soft tacos were succulent and delicious.  Salty, but delicious.  Of all the food items we ordered, the tacos are the only things I'd order again.

The chorizo and potato quesadilla was just way too salty.  And for some frame of reference, my friends/family and I always joke about how we Chinese people use soy sauce so much, we practically drink it, so it's no question we like our sodium and our tolerance for salty is high.  So when *I* say the food here is too salty, shit just got real - it is SALTY.  I couldn't even taste the chorizo really, and the potato and rest of the quesadilla weren't enough to make up for it.  Maybe my taste buds were already shot at that point, but the salsa was but a flavorless garnish that I wish added some zest to the salt fest.

They do have a pleasant outdoor dining area in the back with live entertainment and heat lamps, a decent beer selection, and a laid back vibe.

I've enjoyed hanging at the Bike Shop (seriously has bikes hanging from the ceiling that you can actually purchase) since moving here a few years ago. As one of only maybe five other nonmeat-eaters in the area, I LOVE and CRAVE the mushroom taco. It's like $3.50 each. Each two and you'll be happy. I love them so much, I have tried to perfect the recipe at home to impress guests.

The guac and chips are another favorite of mine to share over beers. Now, the beer selection is somewhat lacking here -- as it is everywhere in Mobile. There are times that you can down through the list and begin asking for what you want and hear over and over, "we're out of that." It's frustrating. The prices are too high for beers that aren't really speciality.

You can find Alabama beers like  Back Forty's Truck Stop Honey and Naked Pig. I wish we had more to offer in that area, but beers are certainly lacking in Alabama as a whole. Why can't we get more Louisiana beers? "Beer bars" like this place have to stay on distributors to make it happen. Beer Bars should also have more beers on tap to offer.

All of our friends do love to gather there since they have a great courtyard. The inside is smoke-free, and they try to blow the smoke out of the back as best they can. It's a cool vibe and it will continue to get better. It's probably one of the best places on Dauphin Street to hang and I highly recommend it for travelers seeing our city!

Who would have thought that a bar in Mobile, Alabama would produce some gourmet-quality Mexican?

I was in Mobile for the day and was flipping though "Mobile" magazine, looking for some must-try food. The Dauphin Street Taqueria was one of the featured venues, with the magazine highlighting it's delicious tacos. Yelper Sona P. was fixin' for some Mexican, so the decision to come here was a no brainer.

The venue does not match the food. At all. It presents itself as a gimmicky bar for people to watch football - and ain't nothing wrong with that. But for someone looking only for food, the bar's decor serves as a clever ruse, hiding outstanding sources of nourishment.

I tried the stuffed jalapenos, grilled mahi mahi tacos, and crawfish quesadilla. The food looked amazing. I was surprised that such a venue would produce something I expect from a NYC restaurant. As for taste, the jalapenos were great, but not necessarily breath taking. The tortilla for the quesadilla was awesome. It was almost like a crêpe... thin and sweet. The crawfish were good, too, but as a meat lover, I wanted a bit more inside. The best dish, however, was the grilled mahi mahi. I've had lots of mahi mahi in my day, and this was my favorite. mmm-MMM-mmm! I don't know what type of wizardry they performed in the back, but the mahi mahi was grilled to perfection, with just the right amount of burn while retaining all of its glorious tenderness and flavors.

As for the service... it's the South. Nothin' beats Southern Hospitality.

    Atmosphere (^_-)
    Service (^_^)
    Presentation (^_^)
    Taste (^_^)
    Bang for buck (^_^) - $3 tacos!!!

Glad I came. Not sure if or when I'll be back in Mobile, but anyone in the area looking for Mexican better head on over here!

Our Dog sat with us outside. Yes! After a day at Woofstock - we had our pet with us and picked this pet friendly place to eat and enjoy the day.
The Mexican food we ordered was fresh and so good. I posted pics of all of it. We ate the famous chips n salsa $5 and they were warm when them came out. Love them that way. The Black Bean Empanada $6 was on a bed of cabbage along with a great dipping salsa. The Quesadilla $6 was perfect....we will be back!!  Server was spot on and super nice.

Definitely my favorite place to hang in the Mob and one of the only places downtown to get decent veg options. It's fun and I like the people. They have a cool inside area with TVs for watching games and a back patio with games on or live music. Salsa and guac are delish and I love the portobello and goat cheese soft tacos (not a usual mushroom fan). I would put a plug in for the queso SANS chorizo (please?). For sushi lovers, you can also order from that menu as well, which is fun.

My one complaint...they have so many beers on their menu and every beer that I order is out. It's become a joke (and not the funny haha kind).

This place is cool. I would love to hang out here on a Saturday afternoon, watching football, drinking beers and eating tacos. Sometimes there is live music playing. I wish I could transport this bar to somewhere on the LES. Maybe I will work on that...

The inside of the bar is really neat. They have the raw brick with bikes hanging from the ceiling. They have a ton of local brew beers, and the food they serve is not typical bar food. They have smoked duck nachos, seaweed salad, and sushi. Also, some Mexican cuisine like tacos and such! I heard when you order food there they actually get the food from next door from liquid sushi, but nevertheless great food. They even have a huge outdoor patio in the back for outdoor drinking. The bartenders are rockabilly-ish, and they play Film Noir on the TV so it gives you an edge-y vibe when drinking there. I recommend this bar if in the Mobile area. They won an award for coolest bathroom because their restrooms have giant colorful murals all over the walls. This bar is 100% dog friendly! So bring your pooch inside or out and grab some beers!

I love this place!  Thanks for the tasty blackberry birthday margarita!  I've been here 3 or 4 times and have often enjoyed various tacos, guacamole, and stuffed jalapenos.  Great for vegetarians or picky eaters -- lots of choices and easy to combine your favorites among small plate offerings.  Friends who don't have the love for Mexican food can order from the sushi bar next door (you can also eat over there but the lounge vibe isn't really my style).  Beyond "Fresh Mex," this place is perfect for a leisurely happy hour, celebration dinner, or night out.  Outdoor seating is rockin'.  Great beer list, specialty cocktails, and hot bartenders.

Fun place with a great character. Good menu of beer and drinks plus authentic Mexican (not Tex-Mex) food. I had a pork taco and the steak taco. Both were delicious. Friends also recommended the fish and the mushroom taco.
I am looking forward to going back for more!

    4 and 1/2

This is quite possibly our favorite spot in Mobile.  It doesn't matter how many times we have visited the Bicycle Shop, we are always ready to go back.  If you are looking for a great patio, good food, and a good time, this is your spot.

We always sit out back, order one of their fresh fruit margaritas, and have chorizo quesadillas.  We have tried other things, and they are good too, but we always go back for the quesadillas.  A friend of ours ordered the huevos ranchero and they looked amazing too.

Never tried the sushi but I know they serve until 2 in the morning. Late night eating at its finest.  We have also learned that Liquid and the Bicycle shop are owned by the same owner so you can order sushi at either spot.

Oh and their Halloween party was AWESOME!!!  Dj on the patio in October...killer!

I looked this place up and it was described as Mexican, bar and sushi - which is a combination that sounds like it should be avoided. Don't do it. It was so great.

I got a blackberry mint margarita - they have a lot of interesting flavors and definitely worth it to try. We got edamame, guacamole, and the cheese dip too. Delicious. Guacamole was nice and chunky and not too much cilantro. Cheese dip - well you can't really go wrong.

As far as food, I got a shrimp taco and a mahi mahi taco. Both were fantastic. The shrimp taco was a little bit spicy, but even though I don't do spicy at all, it was good. My co-workers ordered the chorizo potato quesadilla,. which also looked amazing. Overall, I can't wait to come back to Mobile, so I can come back here.

Service: super friendly, very attentive and fantastic about recommendations from the menu.
Environment: Local Alabama bar ambiance. Outside seating. I went on Halloween and everyone was all dressed up.

Walking up to the Bicycle Shop you can't help but think "yup, this is the kinda local place I want to hang out at for a while." If you're looking for true Mexican food, this wouldn't be my recommendation, but read on, because the place is tops for Mobile!

Let's make something clear here: you can't beat the ambiance in the middle of the day on a Sunday. They had a football game on TV, a bartender mixing up drinks and pouring beers, and a smattering of locals just hanging out and having a good time.

We stopped in just after regular lunch hours, but still made it in time to enjoy their lunch menu and pricing.

They tout themselves as "authentic" Mexican cuisine, but to be honest I think they'd be more accurate saying that they serve unique renditions of authentic Mexican food.

Their delivery and presentation is excellent, especially for a "cantina" type place.

I ordered two tacos: one steak (marinated flank steak, roasted peppers and onions, and chimichurri sauce) and one chicken (achiote-marinated chicken breast, spinach, avocado, habanero salsa). Both were quite tasty, but again, nothing like "authentic" Mexican tacos.

Another un-authentic aspect of this awesome little spot: they charge for chips and salsa. Everyone knows that Mexican restaurants don't charge for chips and salsa. Don't they? Guess not.

The service was a bit slow, plus we were in a rush, but if you're here to hang out and spend some time this is definitely where you'd want to be.

Just look for the sign that says "OK Bicycle Shop," they'll be waiting for ya!

A fun spot on Dauphin Street, right next door to Liquid.

Chips and salsa (they offer 4 salsas and all of them are fresh and delicious) are excellent! A nice variety of tacos, most of them around $4.50-5 and an average person needs at least 2 to feel full.
The house specialties range from smoked duck, stuffed poblano peppers to skirt steak (I believe there are 5 items under that section).
They also offer seviche - Tilapia is my favorite, very refreshing and light.

A long list of beers, several choices for Margaritas; they also serve drinks and wine.

And I just love their set up outside -- it's always clean and the fans keep air moving so it's bearable this time of the year.

All in all, it's a neat spot for a lunch, informal dinner or a date.

Very cool bar/restaurant. On the inside is your typical bar and out in the back is a huge patio, with heat lamps when it is cold. They even have an awesome outdoor fireplace.

There were 7 in our group, and our server was never missing.

The tacos here are not your everyday tacos..so don't come if you are expecting taco bell.

    What was ordered"

Chips and guacamole - very fresh guac with a large amount of very good chips

stuffed japalenos - not for the simple tongue

fried crab on top of tomatillos - delish (the whole thing is fried)

mahi mahi tacos - awesome, the cream sauce and the radish really made the taco fresh and unique

mushroom taco - portobello mushrooms in a nice marinade

    crispy fish taco - fun

They have 57 beers. Yes, I counted the list. 57.

The sushi menu is available only after 5.. but you can always go next door to Liquid

A regular spot for the Mobile crew

Fun crowd, affordable fresh new Mexican, good place to meet for a casual drink, wonderful outdoor seating front and back, outside pet friendly.  Love it.

Shares kitchen with hip sister next door, Liquid Sushi.

Only downside is you have to sign up for a free membership w/ card to save. Let's them serve drinks real late.

The food here is really good. It is kind of contemporary Mexican, and I've been there enough to have tried several dishes, all of which were awesome.
One word of caution -- if I had it to do over again, I never would have ordered the stuffed jalapenos. Not because they weren't well-prepared or fresh. Maybe because they were too fresh. I must have been used to frozen TGIFriday's style stuffed jalapenos, and was blown away by how spicy their fresh jalapenos were. As in, I could barely finish ONE of them, and no one at the table would touch them. HOT!
Food here is fresh, creative, and super-good.
    Many varieties of beer.
    Excellent atmosphere.
    And they even sell bikes!

this is my favorite bar in Mobile. it's so cool that you won't think you are in Mobile. the jukebox is usually broken but when it's not there's a great selection- lots of Elvis Costello! the bartenders are super nice. they have a nice selection of beers and wine. and they've just started serving tasty Mexican food, which is great after or during a late night out of drinking!

Yep, very laid-back bar.  GOOD music, friendly, can't go wrong here.  I actually like this place better than the Garage, but YMMV.  (I'm not a bar-hopper, so maybe it's why I like it better--it's more laid-back?)
