The sign does not do this place justice, and on the inside they look like any regular old smokey bar with dim lights and plummer's cracks a plenty, but the pizza is a welcomed surprise.
I worked over near this place for two years before I knew it was there. I co worker of mine brought in this gorgeous pizza and let me taste. I was hooked and shocked that I didn't know about it. Every one I turn onto this place becomes a fan. I have only had their pizza but It is one of the best I have ever had. I get their chicken pizza, which seems to be the same chicken they serve with their pasta dishes. It does not taste like some pre cut bagged frozen chicken that you'd find on a dominos pizza. It very well may be, but it does not taste like it. There Italian sausage and pepporoni toppings are above average as well. This is what keeps me from committing to vegetarianism.
I was in town on business and unfortunately I did not have a rental car, so I was limited as to where I could go eat. Â I was in the mood for bar food though, so I figured I'd check this place out. Â Totally not what I expected though! Â If you are looking for decent food and a nice atmosphere, stay away! Â The staff was friendly, but everyone in the join smokes, and I just felt out of place. Â I felt like the droids walking into the Mos Eisley cantina when I walked in.
Review Source:This is a great little hole in the wall locals bar that most people would drive past and not even realize it's there. Â Nice diverse menu for anyone's bar food desires. Â We had the patty melt and the Stromboli, both definitely hit the spot. Â The service was a little slow but the place was packed for the a&m vs ou bowl game so it was understandable and the waitress was really nice so it was all good.
Review Source:Came in after work, and made it in for happy hour, which goes till 7. They serve PBR in draft, which is nice. The ambiance is dive-ish or a hole in the wall. It's a small, sometimes crowded, sometimes smokey atmosphere to watch your favorite sports game, drink some beers, and enjoy some cheap decent food.
Our group split a large meat lover's pizza which was under $20 and is pretty tasty. Just noticed that they serve Sunday brunch, which I will have to try.
I lived in the Camden Apartments directly behind "The Big AP" (don't rent from there :))when I lived in TX and I just had to come back and yelp about this place. When I first moved to Texas I did not know anyone so I was at bars a lot. This one just happened to be right around the corner from my place so I went. Drinks are cheap and food is decent but the Grilled Chicken salad was freaking delicious! Loved it and there dressing is just awesome idk if its home made or what but they have the best ranch and blue cheese I have had in a while. The wings are decent but all in all it's a fun place to go watch people do Karaoke and chill. The DJ would play dance music to which was always fun, id dance often there if he did play music, dancing with older ladies who were just so much fun and just having good times. It is an older crowed but I like it, it's a bar that is comfy, not pretentious, and really just a nice place to put the cowboy boots up and relax! Thanks BIG AP for many great nights of cheap drinks and delicious salad!
Review Source:So you want to go to a place where everybody knows your name but Boston, Mass is to far - well Big Apple is right around the corner and has the same familiar feel to it. From excellent service, great food, superb drinks and comfy atmosphere you will immediately feel like home.
Joe - the owner is great, very personable and will greet you when you walk in and stop by while your hanging out to check on your service.
Veronica behind the bar - is by far the best bartender. Charming personality, very attentive, and has a way with making top notch drinks.
I don't live close, but I will go out of my way to visit the Big Apple where everybody knows your name.
The pizza here is really good!I always get half supreme half peporoni.they pile up the toppings on the supreme and all the toppings are fresh not something that's is frozen.it's always really good.the only downfall is whichis why I only gave it four stars is they are a little pricy.19 dollars for this pizza.that's the only reason I don't eat this pizza all the time.
Review Source:The Big Apple Sports Bar is more of a bar than anything else. Â I do see kids here and there nothing here you wouldn't see at other bars, but it's definitely more adult oriented. Â While their staff deserves 5 stars for being so friendly and attentive, their food is their shortcoming. Â Most everything is pretty average here. Â The pizza is probably their best offering (New York style) and the slices are pretty big.
This place feels a bit divey as the furniture is worn and the place just feeling a bit old, but I guess it adds character especially if you've been coming here for a while. Â Not bad for a neighborhood bar.
I'd really probably give them a 3.5 if I could.
We found them via Groupon, they are located along the bi-weekly trek we make to pick up my stepson, so I am always looking for places we can stop for dinner those nights. Â We actually went for an early dinner on a Weds. on the way to the airport for a business trip.
It's definitely a bar atmosphere rather than a 'bar & grill' (a la Fridays) atmosphere - it was dark, smoky, not particularly fancy, with what appeared to be gaming machines in one corner, and a bunch of TVs on. Â The furnishings were a bit worn down.
However, I will give full marks for the service - we had a very friendly waitress who gave us her all. Â The food went from decent to good. Â The onion ring appetizer we got was decent, the pizza was actually better than I expected it to be - if the crust had been crispier I think that would have bumped them to the 4. Â But the sauce, toppings and cheese were all tasty and generous. Â I've had FAR worse bar pizza.
The boys ordered burgers and said they were "ok". Â I stole a fry from the Munchkin and didn't think the fries were that great.
I actually felt a little odd having my son there because of the ambience, that's not really a detractor for the restaurant itself but a comment for other folks with kids. Â There were other kids there at the same time we were, but really it feels more like a bar that serves food than a restaurant despite the fact that the food isn't half bad. Â I'd be more comfortable going with just adults.
I recently went here for my friend's birthday. I treated him to an open bar and some very satisfying fried pickles. The bartender of course comped us a birthday shot and took care of my friend's sometimes curious requests. While there I spoke to the owner, who is very personable and friendly. The new 5 star rating reflects their efforts, friendliness, and the continued quality of their bar food. For a neighborhood bar within an almost forgotten strip mall, this is excellence.
Review Source:We had originally walked into this strip mall to have a breakfast burrito at Gourmet Burrito but OOPS they had just closed. Â So we walked around the corner to Big Apple. Â We sat outside because it was a lovely day and shared a 12" pizza. Â It was a perfect little lunch -it wasn't gourmet pizza but the cheese was ooey gooey and the crust was really nice, thick and chewy but still a little crispy, not a grease sponge like lesser pizzas (Pizza Hut et al.) Â Oh and it was CHEAP, I don't think we could have spent less on lunch if we'd gone to Wendy's. Â So we'll be back for sure!
