    Best BBQ ever!

NOTE:  This review is for the Dalton location as I assume it is owned by the same person as the Calhoun establishment.

Just ate at Big John's in Dalton for the first time with my husband.  I did not like it.  Got the BBQ pork and it was too smokey vinegary (I guess is the best way to describe it).  I like my sauce sweet smokey--mesquite--honey--things like that.  My husband didn't care for it much either.  When we left, he asked if we could get the meat without the sauce and they said yes, so we thought we might go back to give it another try.  But when I mentioned to my mom that we ate there, she made a face and said she didn't like it either.  She said the last time she went, my dad asked someone there (I think maybe the cook or owner) to please get a sweet sauce to offer a better selection.  He liked the sauce, but my mom did not.  My mom said the guy was rude and pretty much indicated his attitude was "if you don't like the sauce, you can just go elsewhere."  This is a big turnoff to me.  As a result, I doubt we will ever go there again and I highly advise those who prefer sweeter BBQ to stay away!  Sure, they have other things on their menu, but if their attitude is so bad that they are unwilling to simply offer a few extra bbq sauce choices, then they don't deserve the business.

Great little hole-in-the wall place in Calhoun if you're looking for quality southern/american food. Their burgers are perfect and MASSIVE. Comes with your choice of sides that you would expect at any BBQ place. Potato salad is delicious and their prices are very moderate.

    Definitely worth the stop...

I'm not much of a fast foodie, so I'm not big on rating burger joints. However, my hubby and I discovered the wonder of Big John's burgers after a rough all-nighter.

The wait time is longer than fast food joints, but, boy, is it worth it! These burgers are made of quality beef and not some frozen mystery mix! Oh, and the atmosphere screams old school American diner!

    Love Love Love!
Also, the broccoli bites and jalapeno poppers are to die for!

Big John's has definitely earned its title of offering the best burger in Calhoun.

It is nice to come home for the weekend and eat a real burger in a friendly restaurant as opposed to an over-processed frozen patty served by rude cashiers.

They offer daily lunch specials with different vegetables side items. I always get a hamburger plate, which has never disappointed.

During late night food cravings, I wish they were an option.

When Big John's first came to Calhoun I was excited because I have several friends in Dalton who loved Big Johns there.  The first time I stopped by the Treat Shoppe it was at lunch and I ordered the Hamburger Steak plate with Brunswick Stew and Onion Rings.  Ok, so i know it's not the healthiest meal , but let me tell you...it is DELICIOUS!  They offer everything from BBQ to Chicken Fingers, Burgers, and during lunch they have specials that change from day to day.  It's easy to see why Big John's has been awarded the best hamburger in Calhoun award 2 years running. I am usually unable to deviate from my hamburger steak meal, but I assure you...everything else is great as well!  The staff is friendly and the food is wonderful.  If ever you find yourself in Calhoun you have to try Big John's.  You'll love it!

When I first read the name, "Treat Shoppe," I thought it was a snack or ice cream place.  Not so.  It's a fast, clean, tasty restaurant that I would pick any time over franchise fast food.

I like the hamburger plate (you get to pick 2 sides-- mine were cole slaw & fried okra) so much better than a jumbled bag of burgers & fries.  There's plenty of good-quality meat on the burgers, seasoned with only salt & pepper.  They also offer BBQ, chicken fingers, & plates where you can pick an entree (like country fried steak) & vegetable sides.  Their tea is really good, too.  They serve breakfast, too (but I've not tried it... yet).

It's fast enough to go in, sit down & order (the waitress wears me out just watching her).  You can also call your order in & go pick it up at their window to eat at home (it's enough food to grace a plate for sure).  Their prices are the same (or less) than a burger-fries-drink combo anywhere else nearby on I-75 Exit 312.

There is always an interesting mix of people there, too.  I like looking in their parking lot just to see who's there when I'm stopped at the light.
