I wish I would have reviewed Bill's years ago. It used to be my favorite place to go but seems to have changed in the past several months. I do still like the bartenders (for the most part) but prices have gone up (more than what seems reasonable) and are different every time we go. We typically get rum and coke and it costs anywhere from $4 to $6...why no consistency? This does not encourage regulars (of many years) to continue going here. I attended a Halloween Costume Contest/Party last night and was quite frustrated with the entire experience (again, not like any I have had here before). First, I was not a participant in the contest so this is not about me not winning. There were some really great and unique costume. Most contests judge based on some criteria, right? Such things as creativity or scariness even sexiness but, in my opinion, it would have been great for contestants to know what the criteria was they were being judged on. Many folks were something scary (of course!) but a completely unoriginal cat won (black outfit and ears with some whiskers painted on). It was obvious that some people put a lot of effort and thought into their costume. There was a cute leopard that actually had a leopard dress on so was much more cat like, why wouldn't she have won? Some people were there to have fun AND engage in some competition but the contest seemed rigged and completely unfair. It used to be a welcoming and just plain awesome place. They seem to cater now more to the party, power drinker crowd (I suppose more money that way) but it is unfortunate because this was the only establishment in the area (that I know of) that had a laid back yet fun atmosphere.
Review Source:What an awesomely welcoming place!
When researching business opportunities, I always stop in to the local watering hole for guaranteed local advice, you tend to get the unbiased "skinny" from locals. Monica and I are sure glad to have found this place!
Days are for warm hearted locals to gather and we were accepted like long lost family. Introductions all around, drinks were bought for us and we were honored to return the favors.
Bills Place is a rustic old bar with the decor of a not so old western saloon. Heavy into hunting with antique rifles, stuffed game heads and vintage bar amenities from times past. The locals are quick to befriend you and the bartenders even quicker to serve with a smile. All in all, a very happy place to hang your hat for an hour or the day. The rear raised patio is for smoking and overlooks a peacefully wooded creek. You'll feel a nudge on your leg so just reach down and pet one of a few contented dogs belonging to the locals and before you know it, you've been absorbed into a wonderful experience.
We've been back many times and made many friends, actually a deciding factor in the decision to relocate near the coast. Here's to many more enjoyable visits!
Bill's Place has a great old-time bar/hangout vibe in downtown Arroyo Grande. Stopped by for a few drinks recently before a show at the Clark Center (awesome venue). If youre looking for a slicky chain-type bar environment, this aint the place. But if you like rustic, friendly hangouts youve found it here. Â In this part of AG, apart from a wine bar that was down the block, this was the only place we could find for a cocktail. We were glad we did...
Review Source:Yes, at first glance this bar looks like you'll contract hepatitis from the bar stool, but don't let that throw you. It has super eclectic decor that throws back to the starting days of the village. The womens' bathroom stalls have handle bars to help steady you when you've had too much to drink...but honestly don't count on that. The times I have been to Bill's the bartenders practically had to be dragged away from a game of pool or flirting with other customers. If I wanted to sit around somewhere and enjoy the scenery I'd go to the beach. Other than a lack of diligence in bartending I'd say Bill's is worth the stop in. Common they have a lion!
Review Source:this. is. the. most. amazing. bar. EVER!!!!! holy crap why dont they have bars this awesome in the bay area? i was down for my bachelorette party this weekend and wanted to karaoke, and we headed to bill's, not knowing what to expect. what we found was like a crazy packed dive bar with the most awesome, friendly locals you would ever hope to party with. we karaoke'd the night away and seriously felt like we were buddies with everyone in the bar by the end of the night. i would totally drive 3hrs just to come here.
Review Source:I love this bar!! And they sing that song too at Karaoke all the time, so it must be true! Â The beers cheap, the pours are good, and the bartenders are way cool! Â Their big nights are Friday and Saturday for Karaoke, and they even have a country Karaoke night, not my thing, but if you like to hear about dead dogs, Â trucks running off the road, and your girl running off with another man, this is the place to come!! Â They also have a pool night on Wednesdays when they play 3 ball or pea pool.
The best thing about this place is the clientele. Â This is the first place I came when I moved here, and I have felt like it is a second home ever since!
Oh dude, no one has reviewed Bill's? It has a freaking stuffed lion crouched in its front window! And many moose, deer, and buffalo heads on the walls, not to mention guns. And dollar bills stuck to the ceiling.
We were in town on a girls weekend on 7/7/07 and, of course, there were brides everywhere, including at Bill's. Despite the very trash-hick surroundings, the one bride we congratulated and talked to a little bit was quite cute and not trashy. She actually said she didn't know why they were there, but that she was having fun.
We were there on Karaoke night, and the singers were all pretty good. Apparently they take their Karaoke very seriously at this bar. A lot of country songs, as you'd expect. The MC was also very good at both singing and MCing.
The crowd was full of young hicks, old weirdos, a few rockabilly types (one chick was the most rockabilly person I'd ever seen in normal public surroundings; she had all the right stuff), some punks/goths, and a bunch of "regular" people either kinda sightseeing at a country bar (like us) or young people stuck in their hometown (I think this was the majority).
Anyway, it was entertaining, and they had Firestone beer - the brewery being not far up the road in Paso Robles. Awesome!
