My wife and I stopped to eat at Birch's with our son after his basketball game. We are from Chaska but had a game in Orono. What a lucky find we made. Very classy place with white table clothes. Wide range in menu from hamburgers and pizza to steaks and seafood. I had a hamburger with bacon and bleu cheese. It was absolutely stellar. Hard to explain what it was...but it was the tastiest burger I can recall ever having. My wife and son each had a pizza and were equally pleased. Service was great and very speedy. We would recommend this place to anyone. Wish it were close to Chaska!!

Our whole family loves Birch's.  They have an extensive menu with something for everyone.  Food is always fresh and flavorful.  Great little locally owned place with a special "neighborhood joint" feel to it.  Definitely worth the trip to Long Lake for a visit to Birch's.

I just love fried chicken!  Birch's is one of our favorite places to go when we want a terrific meal.  Although they have a fairly broad menu (everything looks inviting) I usually have the Buckhorn Chicken.  My girlfriend loves the Birch's Burger loaded.  Thursday nights however is different since they have a Grilled Maine Lobster special on Thursday's.  It is fantastic and a great value!  It comes already split except for the claws which are easy to crack open and have some of the best lobster meat.  The Zucchini Fries are scrumptious.  We always upgrade to them in place of the regular fries.  It is a cozy romantic little hideaway right on the main drag of Long Lake just a few minutes from west of Wayzata. I'm sure you'll like it!  Gary L

We head to Birch's when we're looking for something special, but low key. We've had good experiences here on special "date nights" as well as family dinners. The menu is very American with a mid-western focus (meat and potatoes!). Before the last time we went, I read Megan E.'s review and for kicks and grins, I tried the grilled chicken and ham/shrimp hash. I am not a fan of chicken at all and rarely ever order it outside of a Mexican or BBQ joint. I must say that it was some of the best chicken I've ever had that wasn't on cooked on a barbecue pit. Perfectly braised - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The ham/shrimp/potato hash was one hell of an accompaniment. The egg was the icing on the cake.

Birch's is quite a surprise for Long Lake. No need to trek into Wayzata if you want some great food...

This place couldn't have been better. The service was incredible, the food was amazingly fresh and flavorful and the atmosphere feels like a home away from home. Ashley, one of the owners and manager was so hospitable. It feels good to give service to people who care about their customers. DEFINITELY will be back!! A+!!!

Great little locally owned place out west and across the street from the Rooster, who knew.

It's been a while since I drove through long lake.  With the expansion of 394 heading west you drive around it now and not through.  I had heard about this place from friends but hadn't had a chance to try it so when the chance came how could I say no?

Nice cozy feel to this place.  It's a small room with a nice sized bar and plenty of warmth.   They had a very nice menu and some really good specials on the board.  Food seems to be very thought out and all fresh and seasonal.  Just there for some drinks and a bite so tried the flat bread pizza (every place has it these days) with short rib meat, caramelized onions and cheese with a horseradish sauce.  Great taste, could have used better cheese than mozzarella but it was still very good.  The short ribs were on special so i guess this was just another use for the meat, great idea.

Great to see places like this and hope they last a long time.

Very Good food but too crowded and noisy and wish they'd lose the TV but still would try it again for the food. Salmon was excellent!

    What a pleasant surprise!

Like Rachael A. mentioned, Birch's is such an expected gem in a small town like Long Lake. We came here for an early dinner last Sunday. We were the second table of the evening, so the service was very prompt and attentive. Our server was very friendly as well.

We started with the pepperoni flatbread. It was surprisingly good. It was very cheesy, and the marinara sauce was very tasty. Then I ordered the .Buckhorn chicken for my main, and m bf ordered the Veal Bolognese. I learned that there used to be a restaurant called the Buckhorn just across the street from where Birch's is right now. Chicken-in-the-Rough was the Buckhorn's specialty that chef/owner of Birch's has carried on the recipe and put this specialty dish on the menu.

Buckhorn chicken exceeded my expectation. They were cast iron pan-fried with golden crispy skin. The chicken pieces seemed to have been nicely marinaded before they were pan-fried, because I didnt need any sauce or any other seasoning to eat with the chicken at all. They were very tender, juicy and very tasty. My bf also really liked his dish. The bolognese sauce had a pretty notable wine aroma and flavor but not too overpowering though. One more thing is that the portion was very generous. We ended up taking half of our dishes home.

Although this restaurant is a little bit further west, it doesnt take that long to get there. .. probably 15 to 20 mins drive from the cities. It's definitely worth a drive.

For a town as tiny as Long Lake, MN Birch's is an unexpected treat.  I had heard from a few friends that it had great food and wasn't too expensive so we tried it for my Mom's birthday tonight.  The waitress was sweet and very attentive, even filled our water glasses although the carafe was left on our table.  The ambiance was cozy and warm and the food was great!

All the specials sounded wonderful, so we shared the Lamb Flatbread Pizza with asparagus, roasted red pepper, arugala, garlic, and a balsamic reduction.  It was wonderful.  We also shared the Caesar Salad, which you absolutely have to get.  I might actually venture to say it was the best Caesar I've ever had.  The rest of the menu sounded wonderful to me and I hope to return soon to try the Ahi Tuna, the Crusted Walleye, and the Roasted Zucchini Sandwich.

If you go on your birthday you get a free (delicious) dessert.  We had the Vanilla Creme Brulee which was big enough to share with three people but the Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake looked amazing (another birthday party next to ours).  The house wine was actually pretty decent as well, so all around a very pleasant experience!   I will definitely be going back.
