Went here after a long days hike out in Montreat (Graybeard Trail). We were craving some beers so we stopped in and had a few. They had a great selection of beers, mostly local from North Carolina, but they had a few standouts from across the country. Also had the Irish nachos which were made with house made kettle cooked chips. It was an interesting twist on traditional nachos and definitely hit the spot after a long day on the mountain. Bartenders were quick to refill beers and prices were excellent. Be sure to check it out if your in Black Mountain.
Review Source:Service was friendly. Â Beverages were nice and cold. Â Hamburger was delicious. Â Wings were dry. Â Chicken soup was nicely prepared with vegetables and good consistency; Â neede more seasoning - easy to add that. Â Eggplant fries were interesting - not as good as the regular fries which were great!
Review Source:We were in the area and couldn't decide on a place to catch lunch on Sunday, so this place pulled up on Yelp with good reviews. Â It's a cool little spot on the bottom floor of a building in downtown Black Mountain, with plenty of TV's for Sunday football viewing, and a large selection of local beers.
Food was not quite as good as the reviews were claiming. Â I ordered a burger and wings. Â I think the cook was having a rough afternoon. Â The burger was more a "burnt house" burger than "smoke house" burger. Â I like my wings crispy, but blackened is a different story altogether.
To be fair, I didn't complain in the heat of the moment, though I wanted to. Â Maybe they would have fixed me properly cooked food. Â But, I don't like sending my food back because you never know what those crazy cooks will do to it. Â All in all, their super crispy wings didn't count in my book as "best wings in western NC"...
On a positive note, the fries were perfectly cooked and my wife had a side of potato salad that was very yummy... so, I guess it wasn't a complete failure.
The server was very friendly, but I had to wave down a different server to get my water refilled since our server didn't return for a long time.
Overall, I would rate this place average. Â It's got a unique downstairs experience with nice big HDTV's, which were good for watching Sunday football. Â But, the food was average, and service was average.
I'll probably hit up another spot next time.
We don't live in Black Mountain but travel there about once a year. Â We always go to the Ale House!! Â I am very picky when it comes to fish and chips, and I think the ones I had here were the best ever. Â Truly. Â
The people are super nice, and the atmosphere downstairs - and outside - provides a fun, relaxing place to hang out.
Located in downtown Black Mountain, this bar has great food and a lot of great beer on tap. Whether there to watch the Saturday afternoon sports (lots of TV's there), or to grab some chicken wings or fish and chips, this is a great place to check out. The staff there is very knowledgeable of the brews on tap, and Garica is probably the best bartender in Black Mountain. Cheers.
